The development of colistin resistance in carbapenem-resistant strains poses a serious public health problem. In this study, we collected 249 carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli isolates from patients in Seoul in 2018, and screened all isolates for colistin resistance and for the presence of mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes. Colistin-resistant strains were further analyzed using multilocus sequence typing, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, detection of antibiotic resistance determinants, plasmid transconjugation, and whole-genome sequencing. Three of the 249 carbapenem-resistant isolates were resistant to colistin, and mcr-1 was detected in one isolate (SECR18-0888), which belonged to sequence type 156 and was resistant to all antibiotics tested except tigecycline. The mcr-1.1 gene was located on an ~62 kb self-transferable IncI2 plasmid along with the blaCTX-M-55 gene, and the blaNDM-1, blaTEM, qepA1, and rmtB genes were additionally detected in SECR18-0888. As an extensively drug-resistant E. coli strain producing MCR-1 and NDM-1 was identified in Korea for the first time, continued monitoring of colistin resistance in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae should be reinforced.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between a flexible parental visiting environment and parental stress in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Methods The study participants included 60 parents of premature infants in NICUs. Structured questionnaires and interviews, as well as observations by researchers using a caregiving behavior checklist, were used to measure the flexibility of the parental visiting environment and parents' stress levels. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected concurrently and were initially analyzed as separate data sets. Data collection extended from March 11, 2018 to June 30. 2018 and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results There was a negative correlation (r=-.30, p=.021) between parental stress and the total number of visits in 7 days. The current study investigated factors related to healthcare transition readiness, including family support and self-management competency, in emerging adults with Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 87 individuals, aged 16-24 years. Participants were recruited both from the outpatient clinic of Severance Children's Hospital, and an online self-help group for emerging adults with T1DM in South Korea. Participants reported perceived levels of family support, self-management competency, and healthcare transition readiness through a structured questionnaire.Healthcare transition readiness was positively correlated with family support (r = 0.257, p = .016) and self-management competency (r = 0.606, p .001). Multivariate linear regression analyses revealed that only self-management competency was a significant factor associated with healthcare transition readiness (β = 0.699, p .001).For emerging adults with T1DM, ongoing family involvement in diabetes care and enhanced self-management competency can strengthen their healthcare transition readiness. Furthermore, primary factors associated with healthcare transition readiness in the present study were identified as self-management competency and participants' age.Healthcare providers should assess and enhance healthcare transition readiness in emerging adults with T1DM. A primary method of addressing transition readiness is helping people strengthen their self-management competency.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate associations between self-management and diabetes knowledge, diabetesrelated attitudes, family support, and self-efficacy in adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus based on the information-motivation- behavior skills model. Methods: Data collection was conducted between March 18 and September 30, 2018. Patients (N=87) aged 12 to 19 years were recruited from the outpatient clinic of S children’s hospital and an online community for patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearsons correlation, and hierarchical multiple linear regression with SPSS IBM 23.0, with the two-tailed level of significance set at 0.05. Results: The mean score of self-management in adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus was 61.23±10.00 out of 80. In September 2018, an outbreak of Listeriosis cases in Korea was traced to food involved, using retrospective cohort studies and PFGE analyses. This study aimed to describe the first L.monocytogenes outbreak identified in Korea. We confirmed the presence of Serovar (4C) and virulence genes, and evaluated the genetic correlation between isolates by restriction digestion patterns of ApaI and AscI. Based on the epidemiological association, it is presumed that the seasoned crab meat with bean sprouts are contaminated by cross contamination during the bean sprouts washing (relative risk was 1.24; p-value: 0.0021 and they possessed virulence genes. Therefore, active laboratory surveillance is necessary to recognize the risk of L. monocytogenes in Korea.

Purpose The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with self-management behaviors in children with spina bifida (SB). The Individual and Family Self-Management Theory was used as a framework. Methods This was a cross-sectional survey study of 112 elementary school children (7-12 years old) with SB who regularly attended scheduled follow-up appointments at the SB clinic of a children's hospital in Seoul, Korea, and their parents. Demographics, condition severity, school adjustment, and family function were the contextual self-management factors, whereas self-management knowledge, self-efficacy, and social support were the process factors. Results Age and condition severity were the contextual factors influencing self-management behaviors in children with SB; among the process factors, self-management knowledge and self-efficacy were statistically significant predictors. Conclusion To improve self-management behaviors in children with SB, it is necessary to develop intervention programs that reflect their age and condition severity as contextual factors and aim to enhance self-management knowledge and self-efficacy as process factors.

Background: Weaning is the introduction of food and fluids than breast milk and the transition to a solid diet along with breast milk. It’s gradually starting around the age of 6 months. Weaning is a best process involving nutrition; immunological, biochemical and psychological adjustments. Purpose: The aim of the study was to explore the level knowledge and practice of lactating mothers’ regarding weaning in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted at three EPI centers in Noakhali Municipality, Noakhali. A purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the sample that has 6 - 12 months of aged baby. The estimated sample size was 120 lactating mothers. Researcher was use developed questionnaires these are socio-demographic characteristic of mothers, mothers’ knowledge related information regarding weaning, mothers’ practice related information regarding weaning. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t- test and Pearson co-relation. Significance level 0.05 was considered in this study. Results: The mean age of the mothers was 25.18, (SD ± 4.32). Most of the subjects were Muslim. The results revealed that the lactating mothers reported moderate level of total knowledge, with the mean score was 16.13 ± 4.32 and the low level of total practice, mean score was 2.83 ±.27. There were significant factors related to knowledge level were: non-Muslim mothers’ (p = .05), higher educated (p = .03), get information from relative/others (p = .05), and start weaning (p = .01). Significant factors related to practice were older mothers’ age (p = .002), having baby more than one (p = .05) and having older child age (p = .001), higher educated (p = .008), and period of weaning (p = .01). There was no relationship between total knowledge and total practices of weaning among lactating mothers’ (r = .02, p = .82). Discussion: The findings of this study indicated that the mothers who had higher education, more than two babies, and non-Muslim mothers especially were high knowledge and practice regarding weaning. Therefore, the nurses and other health care provider should consider the following characteristics like low educated mothers, prime mothers, starting of weaning, and Muslim mothers especially. Thus, we can prevent of our infant mortality and morbidity regarding weaning practices in Bangladesh as well as abroad.

Purpose: This study of secondary analysis aims to compare family management style according to severity in children with atopic dermatitis. Methods: A convenience sample of 109 Korean mothers caring for a child with atopic dermatitis, were recruited from the pediatric departments of two general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected from November 1, 2015 to February 28, 2016. A structured self-report questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and one-way ANOVA with IBM SPSS Version 22.0. Results: For family management style, condition management effort, family life difficulty, and view of condition impact were significantly different according to the severity of the atopic dermatitis in these children. Conclusion: The findings indicate that family management strategies to enhance care of children with atopic dermatitis as well as members of the family should include these significant variables in a family-centered approach.

Purpose: This study was done to explore disease factors in children with epilepsy, parental factors and resource factors that are related to parenting stress and identify effects of each factor on parenting stress. Methods: Participants were 131 parents who had children who visited a hospital or were hospitalized due to epilepsy. Data collection was done between September 17 and November 17, 2012, and self-report surveys were used. Results: In Stepwise multiple regression analysis, factors influencing parenting stress in children with epilepsy were marital communication, educational background of parents, parenting efficacy, children’s development delay, drug treatment and surgical treatment as a method of epilepsy treatment. These factors explained 34.6% (F = 13.22, p < .001) of the variance in parenting stress. Conclusion: The findings indicate that parental factors (educational background of parents and parenting efficacy) and resource factors (marital communication) have higher explanatory power than disease factors of the children. Thus, it is importance to assess the capacity of parents through self-evaluation, and to assess barriers to marital communication when developing parenting stress intervention programs. Furthermore, both parents should be involved in interventions for parenting stress.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate a parent involvement intervention for childhood obesity intended to increase parents' skills in managing children's weight-related behavior and to improve child-parent relationships. Many studies reported on parental influence on childhood obesity, emphasizing parent involvement in prevention and management of childhood obesity. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Forty-two parents of overweight/obese children were recruited from four cities and randomized to the experimental group or control group. The parental intervention was provided only to parents in the experimental group and consisted of weekly newsletters and text messages for a period of 5 weeks. Exercise classes and nutrition education were provided to all children. Lifestyle Behaviour Checklist and the Child-Parent Relationship Scale (CPRS) were used for measurement of parent outcome. For the child outcome, dietary self-efficacy, exercise frequency, and body mass index were measured. A mixed-design analysis of variance was performed with city location entered as a random effect. Background: The childhood cancer is increasing throughout the world. The incidence of children and adolescent (1 - 19 years old) mortality by cancer was 4.49 by 2006 (Korea Statistics, 2014). Mothers of children experienced a difficult situation in coping when their children were diagnosed with cancer. Based on Mishel’s Uncertainty in Illness Theory, maternal uncertainty and perceived social support are important factors that may have an impact on maternal coping in mothers of children with cancer. Therefore, it was worth to investigate this phenomenon in the context of Korea where no such study was conducted. Objective: To identify the factors affecting maternal coping in mothers of children with cancer. Methods: The study was conducted by using a descriptive design. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board, Yonsei Health System, Severance Hospital, Seoul, Korea and informed consent forms were obtained from the participants. Fifty-nine mothers completed three questionnaires: 1) Parent’s Perception of Uncertainty Scale, 2) Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and 3) Coping Health Inventory for Parents. The internal consistency of these instruments was satisfactory, all with alpha coefficients over 0.86. Results: Hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that perceived social support and maternal uncertainty together explained 35% of the variance in the maternal coping in mothers of children with cancer (R2 = 0.353, F = 15.255, p = 0.000). Perceived social support and maternal uncertainty had an impact on maternal coping. Conclusions: The findings provided information that could be used in a further intervention study to increase maternal coping in mothers of children with cancer.

We described a carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli ST8499 strain producing New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-13 (NDM-13) from patient in Korea. The isolate exhibited multidrug resistance, but remained susceptible to colistin and tigecycline. The blaNDM-13 gene was located on a 130-kb self-transmissible plasmid. This is the first report of NDM-13 carbapenemase in Korea.

Introduction Medication self-management is critical among children with epilepsy. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the perceptions regarding the quality of discharge education among parents of children with epilepsy. In addition, we assessed the impact of their perceptions on medication self-management. The quality of discharge education was assessed in two parts: content and delivery. The quality of delivery was defined as the manner in which nurses teach the content regarding hospital discharge. Methods Forty-seven parents of children with epilepsy completed the questionnaires regarding demographics, the quality of discharge education, and medication self-management (the Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale and the Pediatric Epilepsy Medication Self-Management Questionnaire). Results Parent-reported quality of discharge education was positively correlated with medication self-management (r = 0.305; p = .037). Parent-reported quality of delivery, but not the amount of content, was positively correlated with medication self-management (r = 0.347; p = .017). Conclusions These data suggest that efforts to improve medication self-management among children with epilepsy should include strategies to develop teaching skills among nurses delivering the discharge education.

Aims To identify the variables that affect family management of childhood atopic dermatitis and establish a prediction model based on Bandura's self-efficacy theory. Background Atopic dermatitis is a chronic recurrent skin disease and common health problem in childhood. It is necessary to use an approach that includes parental factors when considering the effective management of childhood atopic dermatitis. Design A cross-sectional study design. Methods A convenience sample, comprising 168 Korean mothers caring for a child with atopic dermatitis under the age of 13, was recruited from the paediatric outpatient departments of two general hospitals in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected using structured self-reported questionnaires including severity, antecedents, effort, self-efficacy and family management of childhood atopic dermatitis from 1 November 2015-28 February 2016. Descriptive statistics about the participants and variables were examined and data were analysed using structural equation modelling. Results The hypothetical model had an adequate fit to the data, indicating that severity, antecedents, effort and self-efficacy influenced family management of childhood atopic dermatitis. Conclusion These results suggest that strategies to support children with atopic dermatitis and their family should consider the influence of such variables.

This study compared the content change of physiological active substances according to the extraction condition when we generally drink the extractive of Schisandra fruit with using water. Physiological active substances of the Schisandra fruit, schizandrin, gomisin A and gomisin N were analysed with HPLC. The results of extracting 1 dose of the Schisandra fruit tea, which is some as 1 g of Schisandra fruit, in 100 mL of water by differing the extraction type, extraction temperature and extraction time were of the followings. The total content of schizan- drin, gomisin A and gomisin N of powder type in 26 o C leaching was the highest (p < 0.05) as the leaching content of 24 hours (5.54 mg/g) showed difference with different times and the contents of raw type Schisandra fruit were less than 0.1 mg/g in all of extraction time. The contents of powder type Schisandra fruit in 60 o C heating extraction was over 4.50 mg/g except for the 5 minute (2.94 mg/g), and the contents of raw Schisandra fruit were less than 0.3 mg/g. In case of 100 o C heating extraction, the contents of powder type Schisandra fruit showed over 5.10 mg/g in every time zone, and the raw type Schisandra fruit was less than 1.0 mg/g.

Eight minerals (Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na and Zn) were determined in Schizandra chinensis fruits and their infusions in Seoul. The average mineral contents per Schizandra chinensis fruits (100 g) were K (966.08 mg), Mg (87.20 mg), Ca (15.19 mg), Mn (6.19 mg), Fe (3.99 mg), Zn (2.78 mg), Na (2.15 mg) and Cu (0.31 mg) respectively by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer. The quantity of K and Zn were found significantly higher in Korean fruits than the Chinese fruits (p < 0.05). The other 6 minerals did not reveal remarkable difference. In the case of processed Schizandra chinensis tea, it had K (217 mg), Mg (20.40 mg), Ca (7.16 mg), Na (2.95 mg), Mn (1.34 mg), Fe (0.95 mg), Zn (0.25 mg) and Cu (0.09 mg) per 100 g respectively. In extraction of Schizandra chinensis fruits, as it took a longer extraction time, and in a powder form rather than a raw form, it had a higher contents of minerals. When a powder type of Schizandra chinensis fruits was extracted for 24 hours at 25 o C, the transfer rate appeared with Ca (36.27%), Mn (25.44%), K (22.43%), Zn (21.00%), Na (19.91%), Mg (19.55%) Cu (13.78%) and Fe (6.45%) respectively.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of predominant breast-feeding practices based on the criteria given by the World Health Organization and to identify the association between predominant breast-feeding during infancy and the development of obesity during preschool in South Korean children. This study employed a nonexperimental, retrospective study design. Five hundred and twenty-eight preschool children aged three to six years and their mothers were recruited. Twenty-seven percent of the participants engaged in predominant breast-feeding; on average they fed predominantly breast milk for the first 6.7 months. After adjusting for child and maternal characteristics, children who had mixed feeding were 1.68 times more likely to become obese than those who were predominantly breast-fed. In this study, it was identified that predominant breast-feeding has a positive effect on maintaining healthy body weight in Korean preschoolers. While encouraging predominant breast-feeding is only a part of the solution, it is an effective and important first step toward preventing preschool obesity.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parental presence on the incidence of emergence delirium (ED) of children in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU). Design A quasi-experimental pretest and post-test study with nonequivalent and nonsynchronized control groups. Methods About 93 children aged 3 to 6 years undergoing general anesthesia for tonsillectomy were divided into two groups: parental presence and absence. ED was recorded using the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium Scale at 0, 10, 20, and 30 minutes after PACU admission. Findings ED score at each time point in the experimental group was lower than the control group, but not statistically significant. ED score in the experimental group significantly decreased over time (F = 6.98; P = .010). Conclusions Parental visitation programs could be effective on the degree of ED in children in the PACU setting. This result may contribute to the establishment of PACU visitation program policy in South Korea.

To identify the effects of a mother-nurse partnership programme based on the core components of information sharing, negotiation and participation in care. Specifically, we examined the programme's effects on parental satisfaction, parental self-efficacy, perceived partnership and anxiety, as well as infants' time to reach full oral feeding and length of postoperative hospital stay, following cardiac surgery on infants at a paediatric intensive care unit with a restrictive visiting policy.Quasi-experimental study. An analysis of covariance was used to investigate between-group differences while ensuring homogeneity.A paediatric cardiac ICU.Parental satisfaction, parental self-efficacy, perceived partnership and anxiety.Data from 37 and 36 mothers in the control and experimental groups respectively, were analysed. Compared with controls, experimental group mothers reported significantly higher parental satisfaction (F = 39.29, p .001), parental self-efficacy (F = 7.45, p = .008), perceived partnership (F = 62.30, p .001) and lower anxiety (F = 12.93, p .001), upon transfer to the ward. Infant outcomes did not differ between the groups.This programme appears to facilitate collaboration between nurses and mothers and positively influences mothers' emotional and cognitive outcomes following infants' cardiac surgery.

Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) have been known to partially restore some of the functions lost in subjects with single-sided deafness (SSD). Our aims in this systemic review were to analyze the present capabilities of BAHAs in the context of SSD, and to evaluate the efficacy of BAHAs in improving speech recognition in noisy conditions, sound localization, and subjective outcomes.A systematic search was undertaken until August 2015 by two independent reviewers, with disagreements resolved by consensus. Among 286 references, we analyzed 14 studies that used both subjective and objective indicators to assess the capabilities of a total of 296 patients in the unaided and aided situations.Although there was "no benefit" of BAHA implantation for sound localization, BAHAs certainly improved subjects' speech discrimination in noisy circumstances. In the six studies that dealt with sound localization, no significant difference was found after the implantation. Twelve studies showed the benefits of BAHAs for speech discrimination in noise. Regarding subjective outcomes of using the prosthesis in patients with SSD (abbreviated profile of hearing aid benefit [APHAB] and the Glasgow hearing aid benefit profile [GHABP], etc.), we noticed an improvement in the quality of life.This systematic review has indicated that BAHAs may successfully rehabilitate patients with SSD by alleviating the hearing handicap to a certain degree, which could improve patients' quality of life. This report has presented additional evidence of effective auditory rehabilitation for SSD and will be helpful to clinicians counseling patients regarding treatment options for SSD.

In this study, dynamic behavior of cable-stayed bridge under moving vehicle and train was analyzed. The parameters considered are the main span length of bridge and the existence of intermediate pier at side span. For the parametric analysis, cable-stayed bridges with 400m and 700m main span (with and without the intermediate pier at side span) were selected. From the vehicle/train-bridge interaction analysis, the intermediate pier was found very effective to reduce the dynamic amplification of girder and stay-cables.

Background: Most studies that have investigated factors influencing eating habits among obese children have focused mainly on individual or interpersonal factors and applied quantitative research methods. Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the barriers in home and school settings that hamper healthy eating in overweight and obese children in South Korea. Methods: Focus group interviews were conducted with 15 overweight/obese children and 15 parents. A standard manual with open-ended questions was developed. Content analysis was used to identify key findings. Results: Participants were aware of the importance of home and school environments in shaping children's eating habits. Five major barriers, respectively, at home and at school emerged from the data. At home, the food preferences of parents affected the eating habits of their children. Moreover, parents worried about providing differentiated diets for siblings and about the permissiveness of grandparents toward grandsons. Furthermore, working parents preferred easy-to-prepare instant foods and said that their children ate overly quickly. At school, children cited time pressures, poor cafeteria environments, and ineffective nutrition education as barriers, whereas parents worried about inconsistent management by teachers and the unsafe food environment around the school. Conclusions: These environment-related barriers may be resolved through changes in the behavior of children, parents, and teachers as well as through the continued efforts of schools, community stakeholders, and policymakers, all of whose cooperation is essential to fostering a healthy food environment for children.

This study is aimed at qualitatively looking into multi-cultual family mothers' experiences in children's bilingual education. The subjects for the study were seven married immigrant Vietnamese women with elementary school children who have recently finished bilingual education. After recording their interviews and then transcribing them, the data was analyzed by utilizing comparative analysis method. The results were divided into three categories of experiences: emotional, identical, and relational aspects. The results of this study will offer information about necessary support for bilingual education to multi-cultural family members.

The purpose of the study was to identify the economic differences in familial, physiological, psychological, and lifestyle characteristics associated with overweight and obese children in South Korea. A total of 407 overweight and obese children participated in the study. The obesity rate was 69.0% and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) was 33.3% in the low-income bracket, and the prevalence of MS was 27.2% for the population. The children in the low-income group were more prone to have poor eating behavior and more likely to spend more than 2 hr viewing television. They also were more likely to have lower self-esteem and more depressive symptoms. School nurses should understand that risk factors for childhood obesity are more prevalent in low-income groups, which will eventually aggravate health disparities between socioeconomic status groups. Therefore, prevention programs for childhood obesity, which target high-risk groups of such children need to be developed and prioritized.

Children from low income families are vulnerable to physical problems including obesity, asthma, hypertension and psychological problems including depression, anxiety. This study was done to identify trends in welfare policy for children from low-income families and future direction for solving health disparity problems. Dream Start is a government-sponsored project that offers services for vulnerable children, ages 0 (include pregnant woman) to 12 years and their families. The Korean Government has made an effort to alleviate health disparity through the 'Health Plan' by establishing health objectives. However, in spite of these efforts by the Korean government, health disparity has worsened in Korea. In order to strengthen family function as well as promote growth and development for vulnerable children, experts in child care need to be significantly involved in identifying neglected children in the community.

This study aimed to determine the effects of audiovisual distraction on pain in children during laceration repair in emergency room settings. This study was designed as a randomized controlled trial. Eighty-four children aged 3-10 years were randomized to either the experimental group or the control group. Pain response was assessed by the Faces Pain Rating Scale, a visual analogue scale and the Procedure Behaviour Checklist. We measured salivary cortisol levels as a physiological pain response. The results showed that the sensory and affective pain responses were significantly lower in magnitude in the experimental group than in the control group. There was no statistically significant difference in physiological pain responses between the two groups. Audiovisual distraction might be a helpful method to reduce children's pain during laceration repair in emergency room settings.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to develop an emotional self-regulation program for obese children and to examine the program's effectiveness on depression, eating habits, and body mass index.METHODS: The emotional self-regulation program was developed from theory-based strategies and a pre-post pilot study was conducted with 46 children (19: intervention, 27: control).The program included 6 weekly group sessions over 2 months.The embedded experimental model of concurrent mixed methods was used to better understand research outcomes by converging both quantitative and qualitative data.Anthropometric measurements and surveys were performed before and after the intervention. Three focus group interviews were conducted with all participants after intervention to explore their experiences.RESULTS: The intervention group displayed decreased depression levels in the quantitative outcomes. The participants also expressed positive outcomes such as improvements in confidence, impulse management, intimacy, happiness, and losing weight.CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that emotional self-regulation skills are crucial factors for obese children not only to manage their emotional problems but also to control their weight. Further research is needed with a larger sample size and randomized controlled trials.

PURPOSE: This study was done to test a hypothesized model, the Biobehavioral Family Model (BBFM), on the relationship of family emotional climate, security of parent-child relationship, depression symptoms and eating problems in adolescent girls, to further understanding of eating problems in this population.METHODS: With a convenience sample of 647 girls, aged 15 to 18, a self-report survey was conducted which included the Korean form of the Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26) to assess eating problems.RESULTS: The estimated results of the structural equation modeling indicated a good fit of data to the hypothesized model proposing that family emotional climate and security of parent-child relationship were associated with the risk of eating problems by way of depression symptoms. That is, negative family emotional climate and insecure parent-child relationship increased the risk of eating problems indirectly by way of depression symptoms.CONCLUSION: The findings are consistent with the BBFM, which suggests a psychobiologic influence of specific family processes on children's stress-sensitive physical disease activity by way of depression symptoms. Therefore, the applicability of the BBFM for understanding adolescent girls' eating problems is supported. The psychobiologic pathways from depression to eating pathology should be addressed in future studies.

The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of overweight and obese children in Korea. This study employed a cross-sectional descriptive study design. A total of 132 overweight and obese children participated in the study. Anthropometric measurements included body mass index, percent body fat, and waist–hip ratio. The instruments included lifestyle patterns, psychosocial characteristics (stress, self-esteem, and depression), and HRQoL. The study found that significant predictors of HRQoL included self-esteem, depression, and physical stress; these variables accounted for 58.7% of the variance ( p < .05), while children with low monthly household income had significantly lower HRQoL, compared with that of their counterparts ( p < .05). HRQoL has multiple dimensions, thus, in addition to lifestyle change, health programs for overweight and obese children should focus on psychological health, and consider social and environmental factors as well.

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to assess the parenting stress in mothers of premature infants and stress related characteristics of mothers and infants.METHODS: The methodology was a cross sectional survey study using self-report questionnaires. Participants in this study were 36 mothers of infants with corrected ages of 4 months to 12 months who were born prematurely. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation with the SPSS WIN 19.0 program.RESULTS: The mean score for parenting stress in mothers of premature infants was 74.639+/-17.570, indicating that the mothers actually experienced stress. When mothers were able to have some private time, parenting stress was statistically significantly lower. When the residential status was having one's own house and the local community provided informational support regarding child nurturing, there was a statistically significant decrease in the sub-category of particular infant temperament. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between mothers' depression and parenting stress.CONCLUSION: These results indicate that there is a need for nursing interventions to increase mothers' private time and to include informational support regarding health management of children including developmental status assessment from local communities.

This study examined the moderating effects of different body mass index groups on the relationship between sleep duration and psychological variables (i.e. self-esteem, depression, and perceived obesity stress) among overweight and obese children in Korea. A non-experimental, cross-sectional study design was used. Study participants included 424 children residing in one metropolitan city of Korea and participating in weight-control programs. Self-reported data collection and physical examinations were performed. An age- and sex-specific reference growth chart was used to produce body mass index for age percentiles, and to classify overweight and obese groups. The results indicated that the main effects of sleep duration and the body mass index group × sleep duration interaction terms were statistically significant for all investigated psychological variables (P < 0.05), indicating that the body mass index group variable moderated the relationship between sleep duration and these psychological variables. This study found that sleep duration < 7 h was particularly detrimental to the investigated psychological variables in overweight, rather than obese, children.
