Abstract

Abstract Plastics are an important usable energy resource. The energy stored in them can be used as fuel in modified high-energy materials. Such use makes it possible to simultaneously dispose of waste plastics and improve the energy properties of modified explosives. The simplest material that is used for this purpose is ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO)—commonly used in rock mining. Tests carried out in the Trauzl lead block test assessing the strength of explosive have shown that, with the right amount of certain polymers, similar or even better properties—energy performance—can be achieved by replacing the fuel oil in ANFO. In turn, tests conducted on the impact of plastic comminution on the assessment of the strength of high-energy material showed that a 1.0% addition of polypropylene, polyethylene or polyurethane significantly increases the strength with reference to ANFO. The test results are of practical importance and, for a more complete assessment of the suitability of polymers for use, it will be advisable to conduct further studies of the properties of high-energy materials with selected plastics.

Abstract

Abstract Background Instrumented gait analysis (IGA) is an assessment and research tool with proven impacts on clinical decision-making for the management of ambulant children and young people with cerebral palsy (CYPwCP) but is underused and variably understood by relevant clinicians. Clinicians’ difficulties in gaining expertise and confidence in using IGA are multifactorial and related to access for clinical decision-making, limited training opportunities and inability to translate this training into clinical practice. Methods The primary aim of this study is to test the feasibility of an educational intervention to advance clinicians’ application of gait analysis in CYPwCP, to inform a definitive trial. The secondary aim is to measure the effect that appropriate IGA training has on physiotherapists’ knowledge, skills, confidence and behaviours. This will be a two-arm feasibility randomised controlled trial with an experimental and control group. The 6-week on-line intervention uses a multicomponent approach grounded in behavioural change techniques. A repeated measures design will be adopted, whereby participants will complete outcome measures at baseline, immediately after the intervention and at 4 months. The primary outcome measures (trial feasibility-related outcomes) are recruitment and engagement. The secondary outcome measures (trial research-related outcomes) are knowledge, skills, confidence and practice change. Outcome measures will be collected via online questionnaires and during observed skill assessments. Analysis of data will use descriptive statistics, two-way mixed ANOVA model and qualitative content analysis. Discussion This study will determine feasibility of the definitive randomised control trial of educational intervention delivered to advance clinicians’ application of gait analysis in CYPwCP. This study offers the shift in emphasis from regarding IGA as a tool to a focus on clinicians’ requirements for access, training and a well-defined role to optimise utilisation of IGA. The impact of this should be better engagement with IGA and clinical practice change. This study will contribute to a body of educational research into clinical education of healthcare professionals and IGA training offering insight into high levels of evaluation evidence including clinical behaviour change. Trial registration Protocol has been registered with the Open Science Framework (osf.io/nweq6) in June 2023.

9. Holocene vegetation and wildfire disturbance in boreal central Yukon, Canada

Abstract

Sediment cores were collected from Wrong (WL) and Lenore (LL) lakes in boreal central Yukon Territory, Canada, spanning circa 6000 years. Analyses of pollen, charcoal, magnetic susceptibility, levoglucosan, and down-scaled paleoclimatic data reveal the vegetation history and character/drivers of Holocene fire disturbance. Boreal forest has persisted in the region for millennia, with a regional mid-Holocene expansion of Picea mariana (Mill.) Britton, Sterns & Poggenb. followed by expansion of Pinus contorta var. latifolia Douglas ex Loudon Engelm. ex S. Watson in the latest Holocene. The shortest reconstructed fire return intervals (FRIs; ca. 110–125 years) occurred in the mid-Holocene, coincident with the development of highly flammable Picea-dominated forest and warm, dry summers that were characterized by elevated June-August 500 hPa geopotential height anomalies (JJA Z500) and associated with an eastward/intense Aleutian Low. In the late-Holocene, FRI increased to ca. 240 years at WL and 280 years LL. Drivers of this change include regional cooling and increased precipitation, with a westward/weaker Aleutian Low position delivering more moisture to interior Yukon. Longer FRIs allowed for greater fuel accumulation between fires, enhancing fire size/severity. While higher fire frequency is noted in the mid-Holocene and increased fire size/severity in the late-Holocene, recent changes in Yukon fire disturbance suggest that the fire regime may soon lie outside the natural range of mid- and late-Holocene variability.

Abstract

The accurate diagnosis of brain tumour is very important in modern neuro-oncology medicine. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is supposed to be a promising tool for detecting cancerous lesions. However, the interpretation of MRS data is complicated by the fact that not all cancerous lesions exhibit elevated choline (Cho) levels. The main goal of our study was to investigate the lack of Cho lesion /Cho ref elevation in the population of grade II-III gliomas. 89 cases of gliomas grade II and III were used for the retrospective analysis – glioma (astrocytoma or oligodendroglioma) grade II (74 out of 89 cases [83%]) and III (15 out of 89 cases [17%]) underwent conventional MRI extended by MRS before treatment. Histopathological diagnosis was obtained either by biopsy or surgical resection. Gliomas were classified to the group of no-choline elevation when the ratio of choline measured within the tumour (Cho lesion ) to choline from NABT (Cho ref ) were equal to or lower than 1. Significant differences were observed between ratios of Cho lesion /Cr lesion calculated for no-choline elevation and glial tumour groups as well as in the NAA lesion /Cr lesion ratio between the no-choline elevation group and glial tumour group. With consistent data concerning choline level elevation and slightly lower NAA value, the Cho lesion /NAA lesion ratio is significantly higher in the WHO II glial tumour group compared to the no-choline elevation cases ( p < 0.000). In the current study the results demonstrated possibility of lack of choline elevation in patients with grade II-III gliomas, so it is important to remember that the lack of elevated choline levels does not exclude neoplastic lesion.

Transcriptional profiling has become a common tool for investigating the nervous system. During analysis, differential expression results are often compared to functional ontology databases, which contain curated gene sets representing well-studied pathways. This dependence can cause neuroscience studies to be interpreted in terms of functional pathways documented in better studied tissues (e.g., liver) and topics (e.g., cancer), and systematically emphasizes well-studied genes, leaving other findings in the obscurity of the brain “ignorome”. To address this issue, we compiled a curated database of 918 gene sets related to nervous system function, tissue, and cell types (“Brain.GMT”) that can be used within common analysis pipelines (GSEA, limma, edgeR) to interpret results from three species (rat, mouse, human). Brain.GMT includes brain-related gene sets curated from the Molecular Signatures Database (MSigDB) and extracted from public databases (GeneWeaver, Gemma, DropViz, BrainInABlender, HippoSeq) and published studies containing differential expression results. Although Brain.GMT is still undergoing development and currently only represents a fraction of available brain gene sets, “brain ignorome” genes are already better represented than in traditional Gene Ontology databases. Moreover, Brain.GMT substantially improves the quantity and quality of gene sets identified as enriched with differential expression in neuroscience studies, enhancing interpretation. • We compiled a curated database of 918 gene sets related to nervous system function, tissue, and cell types (“Brain.GMT”). • Brain.GMT can be used within common analysis pipelines (GSEA, limma, edgeR) to interpret neuroscience transcriptional profiling results from three species (rat, mouse, human). • Although Brain.GMT is still undergoing development, it substantially improved the interpretation of differential expression results within our initial use cases.

As technologically gifted students apply their abilities to computer science, they naturally flow through the talent development stages of potential, competency, and expertise. Processes that have always been important for gifted students to learn as they develop potential are embedded in learning code, which engages the beginning programmer in rich and complex authentic projects (Housand et al., 2017). As stakeholders present opportunities for open-ended, creative processes and products, the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA; 2017) and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE; 2016) Standards can form guidelines for gifted students to self-direct their education through technology. Learning to code results in both cognitive and psychosocial skill development, including creative and critical thinking, logical and systematic reasoning, positive risk-taking and processing of feedback, perseverance through challenges, social skills, and collaboration.

Abstract

Stress is a major influence on mental health status; the ways that individuals respond to or copes with stressors determine whether they are negatively affected in the future. Stress responses are established by an interplay between genetics, environment, and life experiences. Psychosocial stress is particularly impactful during adolescence, a critical period for the development of mood disorders. In this study we compared two established, selectively-bred Sprague Dawley rat lines, the “internalizing” bred Low Responder (bLR) line versus the “externalizing” bred High Responder (bHR) line, to investigate how genetic temperament and adolescent environment impact future responses to social interactions and psychosocial stress, and how these determinants of stress response interact. Male bLR and bHR rats were exposed to social and environmental enrichment in adolescence prior to experiencing social defeat and were then assessed for social interaction and anxiety-like behavior. Adolescent enrichment caused rats to display more social interaction, as well as nominally less social avoidance, less submission during defeat, and resilience to the effects of social stress on corticosterone, in a manner that seemed more notable in bLRs. For bHRs, enrichment also caused greater aggression during a neutral social encounter and nominally during defeat, and decreased anxiety-like behavior. To explore the neurobiology underlying the development of social resilience in the anxious phenotype bLRs, RNA-seq was conducted on the hippocampus and nucleus accumbens, two brain regions that mediate stress regulation and social behavior. Gene sets previously associated with stress, social behavior, aggression and exploratory activity were enriched with differential expression in both regions, with a particularly large effect on gene sets that regulate social behaviors. Our findings provide further evidence that adolescent enrichment can serve as an inoculating experience against future stressors. The ability to induce social resilience in a usually anxious line of animals by manipulating their environment has translational implications, as it underscores the feasibility of intervention strategies targeted at genetically vulnerable adolescent populations.

Abstract

This work reports on the synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) obtained via the polyaddition of diamines: dimer fatty acid-derived diamine (DFA diamine) or polyether diamine (PPO diamine) with five-membered tri(cyclic carbonate) by a pre-polymerization method. The obtained NIPUs were further chemically modified by polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) – glycidylisobutyl POSS (1epPOSS). The resulting reinforced composites, containing 5, 10 or 15 wt% 1epPOSS, were characterized in terms of their structure (FTIR, NMR, XRD), microstructure (SEM-EDS) and thermo-mechanical properties (DMA). FTIR confirmed the formation of polyurethanes, and NMR proved the chemical incorporation of 1epPOSS. XRD and SEM-EDS showed a uniform distribution of 1epPOSS in the matrix for low 1epPOSS concentration, with some agglomeration effects depending on the concentration of 1epPOSS. DMA indicated mechanical reinforcement of NIPUs based on DFA diamine. For NIPUs synthesized with PPO diamine, the composite with the highest 1epPOSS loading (15 wt%) exhibited superior mechanical properties in comparison to the pristine matrix, confirmed by both DMA and static stretching test.

19. Determinants of the level of circulating-tumor HPV16 DNA in patients with HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer at the time of diagnosis

Abstract

Abstract Circulating tumor HPV DNA (ctHPV16) assessed in liquid biopsy may be used as a marker of cancer in patients with HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer (HPV + OPC). Factors influencing the initial ctHPV16 quantity are not well recognized. In this study we aimed to establish what factors are related to the level of ctHPV16 at the time of diagnosis. 51 patients (37 men and 14 women, median age of 57 years old) with HPV + OPC prior to definitive treatment were included. ctHPV16 was measured by qPCR. Tumor and nodal staging were assessed according to AJCC8. Blood derived factors included squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), serum soluble fragment of cytokeratin 19 (CYFRA 21-1), C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin level (Alb), neutrophils (Neut), thrombocytes (Plt) and lymphocyte (Lym) count, Neut/Lym ratio were assessed. The volumes of the primary tumor (TV) and involved lymph nodes (NV) were calculated using MRI, CT or PET-CT scans. Data were analysed using parametric and nonparametric methods. Variables for multivariable linear regression analysis were chosen based on the results from univariable analysis (correlation, univariable regression and difference). There were 9 (18%), 10 (19%) and 32 (63%) patients who had TV and NV assessed in MRI, CT or PET respectively. Primary tumor neither as T-stage nor TV was related to ctHPV16 level. Significant differences in the ctHPV16 between patients with high vs low pain (P = 0.038), NV (P = 0.023), TV + NV (P = 0.018), CYFRA 21-1 (P = 0.002), CRP (P = 0.019), and N1 vs N3 (P = 0.044) were observed. ctHPV16 was significantly associated with CYFRA 21-1 (P = 0.017), N stage (P = 0.005), NV (P = 0.009), TV + NV (P = 0.002), CRP (P = 0.019), and pain (P = 0.038). In univariable linear regression analysis the same variables predicted ctHPV16 level. In multivariable analyses, CYFRA 21-1 and CRP (both as categorical variables) were predictors of ctHPV16 level even above NV. ctHPV16 at presentation is driven by tumor volume measured mostly by N. CYFRA 21-1 and CRP are additional factors related to ctHPV16 prior to the treatment.

Abstract

This article presents a procedure for selecting optimal ceramic paste formulations dedicated to the 3D printing process using robocasting technology. This study investigated pastes with varying ceramic powder particle sizes and different proportions of additives, such as ceramic microspheres and nutshells. This selection process allowed for the classification of ceramic mixtures into those suitable and unsuitable for this additive manufacturing technique. Subsequently, the viscosity of the pastes was measured, and extrudability tests were performed to determine the force required for extrusion and evaluate the quality of the extruded material. In the final stage, the setting time of the ceramic pastes was assessed to establish the drying time of the printed elements. It was found that the length of the extruded band of ceramic paste was inversely proportional to the Al₂O₃ content. Moreover, the extrusion force for samples with varying ceramic powder particle sizes (MG1–MG5) ranged from 133 to 166 N, compared to 77 N for the base sample (BM1). The obtained results enable further development in robocasting additive technology, including the development of a rapid and effective method for validating ceramic pastes used in this process.

Abstract

The molecular dynamics, with an emphasis on the calorimetric and dynamic glass transitions, of non-isocyanate polyhydroxyurethanes (PHUs) produced by the equimolar polyaddition of polyether-based dicyclic carbonates (P-CCs) and various short diamines was studied. The diamine component consisted of a short aliphatic diamine (1,4-diaminobutane, DAB) and a more complex ‘characteristic’ diamine. The study was conducted to investigate (i) the chemical structure of the characteristic amine, (ii) its molar ratio, and (iii) the structure and molar mass of the P-CC. Infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and broadband dielectric spectroscopy were employed. The P-CC, constituting the bulk of the systems, was the most crucial component for the glass transition. The characteristic amine influenced the glass transition as a result of its bulky structure, but also presumably as a result of the introduction of free volume and the formation of hydrogen bonds. The dynamic glass transition (α relaxation) trace in the Arrhenius plots showed a subtle change at a certain temperature that merits further study in the future. The charge mobility was fully coupled with the molecular mobility, as evidenced by dc conductivity being directly proportional to the characteristic frequency of α relaxation. The fluctuation in carbonyl units (β relaxation) was mildly affected by changes in their immediate environment.

Abstract

The continued global urbanization of the world is driving the development of the construction industry. In order to protect the environment, intensive research has been carried out in recent years on the development of sustainable materials and ecological construction methods. Scientific research often focuses on developing building materials that are renewable, energy-efficient, and have minimal impact on the environment throughout their life cycle. Therefore, this article presents research results aimed at developing a concrete mixture using cement with reduced CO2 emissions. In the context of increasing ecological awareness and in line with European Union policy, the development of a mixture based on environmentally friendly cement is of key importance for the future development of the construction industry. The article compares the physical properties of two mixtures, their foaming possibilities, and the influence of the added polypropylene (PP) fibers on the strength properties of the produced composites. It was found that bending strength and compressive strength were highest in the material with silica fume and aluminum powder at 5.36 MPa and 28.76 MPa, respectively. Microscopic analysis revealed significant pore structure differences, with aluminum foamed samples having regular pores and hydrogen peroxide foamed samples having irregular pores. Optimizing aluminum powder and water content improved the materials’ strength, crucial for maintaining usability and achieving effective 3D printing. The obtained results are important in the development of research focused on the optimization of 3D printing technology using concrete.

24. Using Behavioral Engagement Measures of Multiple Learning Profiles to Recognize Twice-Exceptional Students

Using the ECLS-K:2011, a nationally representative dataset, we compared measures of behavioral engagement among students with four different learning profiles: students identified with learning disabilities, students identified as gifted, students identified as both gifted and having a learning disability (twice-exceptional; 2e), and general education students. Behavioral engagement focuses on conduct in class, participation in school-related activities, and interest in academic tasks. We detected differences in engagement among the four learner profiles, specifically when comparing students with disabilities to other profiles. When comparing students with disabilities and general education students to gifted and 2e students, the effect size was medium to large. The effect size between the gifted and 2e profiles was small, suggesting similar behavioral engagement. Because disabilities and giftedness can often "mask" each other, these findings suggest that recognizing how behavioral engagement manifests in each category can lead to more accurate identification of special-needs students for GT assessment.

The concept of ecology, historically rooted in the economy of nature, currently needs to evolve to encompass the intricate web of interactions among humans and various organisms in the environment, which are influenced by anthropogenic forces. In this review, the definition of ecology has been adapted to address the dynamic interplay of energy, resources, and information shaping both natural and artificial ecosystems. Previously, 3D (and 4D) printing technologies have been presented as potential tools within this ecological framework, promising a new economy for nature. However, despite the considerable scientific discourse surrounding both ecology and 3D printing, there remains a significant gap in research exploring the interplay between these directions. Therefore, a holistic review of incorporating ecological principles into 3D printing practices is presented, emphasizing environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, and innovation. Furthermore, the ‘unecological’ aspects of 3D printing, disadvantages related to legal aspects, intellectual property, and legislation, as well as societal impacts, are underlined. These presented ideas collectively suggest a roadmap for future research and practice. This review calls for a more comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted impacts of 3D printing and the development of responsible practices aligned with ecological goals.

Abstract

The inherent brittleness of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), a well-studied polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), limits its applicability in flexible and impact-resistant applications. This study explores the potential of blending PHB with a different PHA to overcome brittleness. The synthesis of PHA polymers, including PHB and an amorphous medium-chain-length PHA (aPHA) consisting of various monomers, was achieved in previous works through canola oil fermentation. Detailed characterization of aPHA revealed its amorphous nature, as well as good thermal stability and shear thinning behavior. The blending process was carried out at different mass ratios of aPHA and PHB, and the resulting blends were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The blends exhibited complex DSC curves, indicating the presence of multiple crystalline forms of PHB. SEM images revealed the morphology of the blends, with PHB particles dispersed within the aPHA matrix. TGA showed similar thermal degradation patterns for the blends, with the residue content decreasing as the PHB content increased. The crystallinity of the blends was influenced by the PHB content, with higher PHB ratios resulting in an increased degree of crystallinity. XRD confirmed the presence of both α and β crystals of PHB in the blends. Overall, the results demonstrate the potential of PHB+aPHA blends to enhance the mechanical properties of biopolymer materials, without com-promising the thermal stability, paving the way for sustainable material design and novel application areas.

Abstract

We generalize the proximal g-formula of Miao, Geng, and Tchetgen Tchetgen (2018) for causal inference under unobserved confounding using proxy variables. Specifically, we show that the formula holds true for all causal models in a certain equivalence class, and this class contains models in which the total number of levels for the set of unobserved confounders can be arbitrarily larger than the number of levels of each proxy variable. Although straightforward to obtain, the result can be significant for applications. Simulations corroborate our formal arguments.

Abstract

Discoveries in medicine concerning the influence of light on human physiology provoked the creation of the Human Centric Lighting (HCL) approach. Research dedicated to this mainly focuses on optimally matching light parameters to human needs, e.g. increasing concentration, relaxation, etc. However, only a properly designed light source is capable of meeting HCL goals. This paper focuses on the LED luminaire design used in HCL systems. A review of LEDs dedicated to HCL systems was performed. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The Tunable White (TW) design is shown to be the most universal solution for HCL systems because it enables regulation of the colour temperature and spectrum, depending on user needs. However, TW is also the most complex in design. The problems that might arise during TW luminaire design are discussed. Example strategies on how to solve them, focusing on colour mixing and LED arrangement are given. Practical examples of TW luminaire design are also described, each one with a commentary covering encountered issues and their solutions.

Abstract

The vegetation and fire history at the Coastal Douglas-fir (CDF) and Coastal Western Hemlock (CWH) boundary on east-central Vancouver Island was reconstructed. A basal non-arboreal assemblage at the most inland site likely represents an open parkland community during the cold early late-glacial interval. Widespread Pinus woodland followed under cold, dry climate, yielding to closed-canopy mixed conifer forest as climate moistened. While fire disturbance was initially rare, it increased in the late-glacial mixed conifer forest. In the early-Holocene, dry coastal temperate forest replaced the mixed-conifer assemblage. Fire disturbance was widespread, characterized by frequent, possibly lower severity burns. These CDF-like forests expanded northward and westward under warm, dry conditions, attaining maximum extent 9500 - 10 500 calendar years before present, retreating thereafter towards the modern CDF-CWH boundary, which established ~6000 years ago as climate moistened. Quercus garryana communities were scattered along the coast at this time, maintained by surface fire. Throughout the remainder of the record, the forest canopy closed as modern forests developed and a mixed-severity fire regime developed. The extended early-Holocene range of CDF-like forest suggests that the existing CWHxm biogeoclimatic subzone may be replaced by CDF stands with climate change. Au debut de l'Holocene, une foret temperee cotiere seche a remplace l'assemblage de coniferes mixtes. La perturbation par les incendies etait repandue, caracterisee par des brulages frequents, peut-etre de faible gravite. Ces forets de type CDF se sont etendues vers le nord et vers l'ouest dans des conditions chaudes et seches, atteignant une etendue maximale de 9500 a 10 500 annees cal. 41. Gas from the South, Not from Russia: The Possibility of Distributing Natural Gas from the Eastern Mediterranean to Poland and Central Europe

Abstract

Energy security plays a key role in the functioning of societies; therefore, every country should strive to ensure it. The Russian–Ukrainian dispute has destabilised the fuel market in Europe. In particular, the natural gas sector in Central and Eastern European countries (CEEs) has been disrupted. Poland was forced to reorganise its gas distribution from the eastern to the northern direction. Other Central European countries are also actively working towards independence from Russian gas. Certainly, a viable alternative for most CEEs is to access hydrocarbons located in the Eastern Mediterranean. The development of the gas transmission infrastructure between this region and the CEE can strengthen their energy security. This article provides an SWOT analysis showing that the commissioning of a new gas infrastructure for distributing gas from the Eastern Mediterranean to CEEs is important for their energy security and provides the opportunity to disconnect from Russian gas. The research results may be useful for analysts, entrepreneurs, or policymakers interested in the CEEs’ gas sector.

42. Type of Material, Not Tree Hole Characteristics Shapes Uropodina Mites’ Species Composition in Excavated Tree Holes

Abstract

Uropodina mites are organisms regularly found in the breeding sites of vertebrates. However, studies devoted to the nest dwellers of hole-nesting birds have been performed nearly exclusively in artificial places, i.e., nest boxes. Here, we describe an assemblage of mites from the Uropodina group living in excavated tree holes. We performed this study in western Poland, sampling material from 49 tree holes excavated by great spotted and black woodpeckers. We divided the material extracted from the tree holes into three categories: wood debris, remnants of bird nests, and remnants of insects. In total, we found 12 species from the Uropodina group. The two most numerous species, Leiodinychus orbicularis and Chiropturopoda nidiphila, constituted ca. 93% of the assemblage. Two other species, Apionoseius infirmus and Uroobovella obovata, were also relatively frequent. Among the assessed factors (woodpecker species, tree hole characteristics, and type of material), only the presence of insect remains, predominantly bat guano, affected species diversity and mite abundance the most. Our study is the first to describe an assemblage of Uropodina species in excavated tree holes and discover two extremely rare mite species, Ch. nidiphila and Nanteria banatica, related to the presence of bat guano in these cavities.

Abstract

Nesting habits of the digger wasp Lindenius albilabris (Fabricius, 1793) at two localities in Poland were studied. The female hunts nymphs or adults of plant bugs Lygus rugulipennis Poppius, 1911 and L. pratensis (Linnaeus, 1758), depositing up to 10 individuals per cell, depending on their size. Nests are built in a wide variety of sandy habitats, on dirt roads, and in wastelands. The nest consists of a 10–12 cm long main burrow and one to three cells. Males are usually found on flowers of wild carrots Achillea millefolium, Daucus carota, Peucedanum oreoselinum, Pimpinella sp. and Tanacetum vulgare. The nest kleptoparasite Metopia argyrocephala was recorded in nests of this species. The mature larva is first described in this study and its morphology is compared with other species of the genus.
