Background The prevalence of ulcerative colitis (UC) in Korea has recently increased significantly, but there is few data for the prevalence and clinical outcomes of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) associated UC. Thus, we assessed the prevalence of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)and analysed clinical outcomes in Korean UC patients. Methods National Health Insurance System (NHIS) claim data from 2008 to 2017 were used in this population-based study. UC patients and PSC patients were identified by codes for ulcerative colitis (UC: K51) and (PSC: K830) in the NHIS registration system. Clinical events were defined as emergency department visit, hospitalisation, colectomy and liver transplantation. Results The overall number of UC with PSC & without PSC patients has increased steadily (Table 1). The prevalence of PSC in UC patients has increased since 2008 and was 0.33%in 2017.Clinical events were more frequent in UC with PSC, but the incidence of clinical events has decreased since 2008 in both groups (Figure 1).In 2017, the number of UC with PSC was 189 (male;118 vs. female;71) and the mean age of UC with PSC was 50.82 years(vs. UC without PSC;49.74). The incidence was low in teenagers and there was no difference in prevalence by age group. Conclusion This study confirmed that the prevalence of PSC is increasing in Korea. Additionally, UC with PSC patients have poor clinical outcomes. Therefore, the prevalence of PSC in UC patients suggests the need for greater attention and effort in clinical practice.

Background Increasing evidence demonstrated that inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has a shared genetic background with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs). However, the association between these two disease entities is not vigorously elucidated. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence and association between IBD and ARDs. Methods A nationwide population-based cross-sectional study was performed using the Korean National Health Insurance Claims database according to ICD-10 codes (Table 1). The prevalence of ARDs, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), inflammatory myositis (polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM)), systemic sclerosis (SSc), Sjogren’s syndrome (SjS), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), was determined in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, compared with general populations. Results A total of 82,480 IBD patients (57,382 patients with ulcerative colitis and 25,098 with Crohn’s disease) were enrolled. The analysis revealed that patient with IBD had higher risk of being concomitantly affected by AS and RA (Table 2). Other ARDs, such as SLE, inflammatory myositis, SSc, and SjS were not associated with IBD. Conclusion This nationwide population-based study demonstrated that RA and AS showed higher incidence in IBD patients. This result suggests that etiopathogenesis of IBD might be shared with RA and AS.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique is a promising technique to offer high data rate and reliable communications over fading channels. The main implementation disadvantage of OFDM is the possibility of high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). This paper presents a novel technique to reduce the PAPR using turbo coding and selective mapping (SLM). We show that the probability of the PAPR of OFDM signal with 512 subcarriers in a 16-QAM channel can be reduced by 25% in a Turbo selector. The rest of the paper, simulation results are superimposed by using Matlab interface as well.
