Background: Cardiac surgery is considered a contraindication in patients with advanced liver cirrhosis (LC) due to increased mortality and morbidity. There are limited data on the treatment strategy and management of this population. We aimed to present our strategy and evaluate the clinical outcome of cardiac surgery in patients with LC., Methods: Our strategy was (i) to list patients for liver transplant (LT) at the time of cardiac surgery; (ii) to maintain high cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) flow (index up to 3.0 L/min/m 2 ) based on hyper-dynamic states due to LC; and (iii) to proceed to LT if patients' liver function deteriorated with an increasing model for end-stage liver disease Na (MELD-Na) score after cardiac surgery. Thirteen patients (12 male and 1 female [mean age, 63.0]) with LC who underwent cardiac surgery between 2017 and 2024 were retrospectively analyzed., Results: Six patients were listed for LT. Indications for cardiac surgery included coronary artery disease (N = 7), endocarditis (N = 2), and tricuspid regurgitation (N = 1), tricuspid stenosis (N = 1), mitral regurgitation (N = 1), and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (N = 1). The Child-Pugh score was A in five, B in six, and C in one patient. The procedure included coronary artery bypass grafting (N = 6), single valve surgery (mitral valve [N = 2] and tricuspid valve [N = 1]), concomitant aortic and tricuspid valve surgery (N = 2), and septal myectomy (N = 1). Two patients had a history of previous sternotomy. The perfusion index during CPB was 3.1 ± 0.5 L/min/m 2 . Postoperative complications include pleural effusion (N = 6), bleeding events (N = 3), acute kidney injury (N = 1), respiratory failure requiring tracheostomy (N = 2), tamponade (N = 1), and sternal infection (N = 1). There was no in-hospital death. There was one remote death due to COVID-19 complication. Preoperative and postoperative highest MELD-Na score among listed patients was 15.8 ± 5.1 and 19.3 ± 5.3, respectively. Five patients underwent LT (1, 5, 8, 16, and 24 months following cardiac surgery) and one patient remains on the list. Survival rates at 1 and 3 years are 100% and 75.0%, respectively., Conclusion: Cardiac surgery maintaining high CPB flow with LT backup is a feasible strategy in an otherwise inoperable patient population with an acceptable early and midterm survival when performed in a center with an experienced cardiac surgery and LT program., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons A/S. Background: Since the introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and their comparison with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs), conflicting results have been reported regarding the optimal treatment for left ventricular thrombosis (LVT)., Objectives: In this meta-analysis, we intend to comprehensively evaluate the safety and efficacy of these treatments., Methods: All clinical trials and cohorts that compared the efficacy or safety of VKAs with DOACs in the treatment of LVTs were systematically searched until April 15, 2023., Results: The results of 32 studies with a pooled sample size of 4213 patients were extracted for meta-analysis. Data from literature show a cross-talk between the heart and liver during diseases which primarily involve one of the two organs, but data regarding this relationship are scant. Aim of this study was to investigate this relationship. In this narrative review we critically explored the most recent literature on this topic using PubMed and Medline and examining the most recent studies about liver involvement in heart failure and heart involvement in course of liver disease. Patients with acute and chronic heart failure and those who undergo heart transplatation (HT) manifest various signs of liver damage with a rate of incidence which is higher in candidates for left ventricular assist device. In presence of cardiogenic shock a very marked hepatocellular necrosis may occur while in the setting of chronic heart failure congestive hepatopathy and-or the so-called cardiac cirrhosis are observed. On the other side in presence of chronic liver disease and in case of liver transplantation (LT) heart functions may be altered and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy, which is a syndrome characterized by systolic, diastolic and electrophysiological abnormalities may occur. In this review we have analyzed the relationship between heart and liver disease, even in case of LT and HT. Furthermore we have underscored the effects of chronic alcoholism and of systemic disorders such as hemochromatosis and amyloidosis on both heart and liver.

Background: Left ventricular thrombus (LVT) is a source of cardiogenic embolic stroke. Conflicting data exist in the literature regarding the utilization of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) at the acute phase of stroke in presence of LVT. We sought to assess the efficacy and safety of reperfusion therapies (IVT and/or thrombectomy) in patients with LVT., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with acute ischemic stroke and proven LVT and divided them in two groups: an intervention group with patients treated by reperfusion therapies and a control group with untreated patients., Results: Between 2009 and 2021, 3890 patients were treated by reperfusion therapies in the Lyon stroke center, 33 of whom (0.9%) had LVT. We identified 27 control patients. There were more embolic recurrences at six months in the intervention group than in the control group (nine recurrences versus three, P=0.03, OR=13.56, 95% CI [1.5;195]). Only two early embolic recurrences (< 24h) occurred, both in the IVT group. There was a 4.8-fold decrease in the median NIHSS score between baseline and 24h follow-up in the intervention group (P<0.0001), and the two groups exhibited similar six-month mortality. At stroke onset, cardiopathy was known in 70% of patients, while LVT was known in 30%., Conclusion: Acute reperfusion therapies seem to be effective in the context of stroke in patients with LVT. Introduction and Objective: Mitral stenosis (MS) is one of the most frequently observed valvular heart lesions in developing countries and is due to different etiologies. The effects of anticoagulation in different types of left atrial appendage (LAA) are unknown. The current study aimed to determine the resolution of LAA thrombus on transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) after three months of optimal anticoagulation in patients with different types of LAA at baseline cardiac computed tomography of patients with severe MS., Methods: This prospective cohort study observed the frequency of LAA thrombus resolution after three months of anticoagulation therapy in patients with severe MS. The response rate in different morphologies of LAA and locations was also assessed. Thrombus resolution after three months of warfarin therapy was assessed on repeat TEE., Results: A total of 88 patients were included, mean age 37.95±11.87 years. Repeat TEE showed thrombus resolution in only 27.3% of patients. The rate of thrombus resolution was 8/12 (66.7%), 4/28 (14.3%), 8/36 (22.2%), and 4/12 (33.3%) for patients with cactus, cauliflower, chicken wing, and windsock LAA type, respectively. The resolution rate was 0/12 (0%), 4/44 (9.1%), and 20/32 (62.5%) for patients with thrombus in the base, body, and tip of the LAA, respectively., Conclusion: The cactus type of LAA morphology and thrombus at the LAA tip responded well to three months of anticoagulation, however, patients with thrombus in the LAA base and body and cauliflower and chicken wing morphology were non-responders and could benefit from early referral for surgical management., (Copyright © 2024 Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia. Aims: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are increasingly used off-label to treat patients with left ventricular thrombus (LVT). We analysed available meta-data comparing DOACs and vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for efficacy and safety., Methods: We conducted a systematic search and meta-analysis of observational and randomized data comparing DOACs vs. VKAs in patients with LVT. Endpoints of interest were stroke or systemic embolism, thrombus resolution, all-cause death, and a composite bleeding endpoint. Estimates were pooled using a random-effects model meta-analysis, and their robustness was investigated using sensitivity and influential analyses., Results: We identified 22 articles (18 observational studies, 4 small randomized clinical trials) reporting on a total of 3587 patients (2489 VKA vs. 1098 DOAC therapy). The pooled estimates for stroke or systemic embolism [odds ratio (OR): 0.81; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.57, 1.15] and thrombus resolution (OR: 1.12; 95% CI: 0.86, 1.46) were comparable, and there was low heterogeneity overall across the included studies. The use of DOACs was associated with lower odds of all-cause death (OR: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.46, 0.92) and a composite bleeding endpoint (OR: 0.67; 95% CI: 0.47, 0.97). A risk of bias was evident particularly for observational reports, with some publication bias suggested in funnel plots., Conclusion: In this comprehensive analysis of mainly observational data, the use of DOACs was not associated with a significant difference in stroke or systemic embolism, or thrombus resolution, compared with VKA therapy. The use of DOACs was associated with a lower rate of all-cause death and fewer bleeding events. Adequately sized randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings, which could allow a wider adoption of DOACs in patients with LVT., (© The Author(s) 2024. Cardioembolism accounts globally for around 25% of ischemic strokes and is more often associated with higher rates of morbidity and mortality. Potential sources of cardioembolism into the intracranial circulation include paradoxic embolism, dysrhythmias, structural heart disease, and valvular heart disease. To identify the etiology of a patient's ischemic stroke, thorough investigation of the intracardiac structures, assessment of dysrhythmias, and consideration of high-risk events such as cardiac surgery are crucial. Objective: The purpose of our study was to analyze the association of blood pressure and blood pressure progression with heart disease and stroke among Chinese population., Method: We included a total of 10 122 adults aged 45 years and above free of heart disease or stroke at baseline from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study cohort. We used Cox proportional hazards models to analyze the relationship between cardiovascular risk and prehypertension in subjects with or without progression to hypertension., Result: During a mean follow-up of 6.5 years, 1972 subjects were either diagnosed with heart disease or had a stroke (composite outcome). Compared with individuals with normotension at baseline, the fully adjusted hazard ratio (HR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] was 1.25 (1.10-1.42) and 1.52 (1.34-1.74) for composite outcome in individuals with prehypertension and hypertension at baseline, respectively. The subjects who progressed to hypertension had higher risk of cardiovascular outcomes than those who remained at normal blood pressure or prehypertension in a fully adjusted model. The subjects who progressed from prehypertension to hypertension had 1.72 times higher risk [HR (95% CI): 1.72 (1.37-2.16)] of cardiovascular outcomes than those who remained at normal blood pressure or prehypertension in a fully adjusted model., Conclusion: The cardiovascular risk of subjects with prehypertension is higher than that of subjects with normal blood pressure. Objective: General anesthesia (GA) may impair outcome after vascular surgery. The use of anticoagulant medication is often used in patients with cardiac comorbidity. Regional anesthesia (RA) requires planning of discontinuation before neuraxial blockade(s) in this subgroup. This study aimed to describe the effect of anesthesia choice on outcome after vascular surgery in patients with known cardiac comorbidity., Design: Retrospective cohort study., Setting: Danish hospitals., Participants: 6302 patients with known cardiac comorbidity, defined as ischemic heart disease, valve disease, pulmonary vascular disease, heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias, undergoing lower extremity vascular surgery between 2005 and 2017., Interventions: GA versus RA., Measurements and Main Results: Data were extracted from national registries. GA was defined as anesthesia with mechanical ventilation. Multivariable regression models were used to describe the incidence of postoperative complications as well as 30-day mortality, hypothesizing that better outcomes would be seen after RA. The rate of RA decreased from 48% in 2005 to 20% in 2017. The number of patients with 1 or more complications was 9.7% vs 6.2% (p < 0.001), and 30-day mortality was 6.0% vs 3.4% (p < 0.001) after GA. After adjusting for baseline differences, the odds ratio (OR) was significantly lower for medical complications (cardiac, pulmonary, renal, new dialysis, intensive care unit and other medical complications; OR, 0.97; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.95-0.98) and 30-day mortality (OR 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97-0.99) after RA., Conclusions: RA may be associated with a better outcome than GA after lower extremity vascular surgery in patients with a cardiac comorbidity. Both dental and cardiovascular disease are prevalent in the general population, have common risk factors and may be closely associated.Following cardiothoracic surgery, patients may be higher risk for developing infective endocarditis (IE) than the general population. Before cardiothoracic interventions, it is common practice for a dental assessment to be carried out and any necessary dental treatment provided. This aims to reduce the risk of IE arising from dental sources and avoid dental pain or infection during the peri- and post-operative period. There is little guidance on which treatments should be performed and when.Many patients with cardiac disease may have dental treatment provided safely in primary care. However, there is often a need to consider additional factors, including bleeding risk, condition stability or medication interactions. Dental teams must have an awareness of the implications of cardiac disease and provide reasonable adjustments to care provision where necessary, ensuring patient safety.This article proposes a protocol for dental management of patients awaiting cardiothoracic surgery and explores important considerations for dental care in this patient group., (© 2024. Objective: This study aimed to classify idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) patients with cardiac involvement (IIM-CI) into different categories based on their clinical phenotypes via cluster analysis and to explore their differences in outcomes., Methods: IIM-CI patients admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2015 to June 2021 were retrieved. The clinical data, laboratory examinations, and treatment were retrospectively reviewed, and the outcome was traced. A second-order clustering method was employed for categorization., Results: A total of 88 IIM-CI patients were enrolled in this study and were classified into two categories through cluster analysis. Category I consisted of patients who exhibited distinct cardiac structural and functional changes, such as enlargement of atriums and/or ventricles, along with the remarkable heart insufficiency biomarkers, whereas patients of category II displayed more widely systemic injuries and intensive skeletal muscle weakness. In comparison, pulmonary hypertension (58.8% vs 16.7%, p < 0.01), arrhythmia (82.4% vs 27.8%, p < 0.01), and positive serum anti-mitochondrial-M2 antibody (52.9% vs 5.6%, p < 0.01) were more prevalent in category I than in category II, and serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels (1703.5 pg/L vs 364.0 pg/L, p = 0.02) were significantly elevated in category I, whereas skeletal muscle weakness (50.0% vs 74.1%, p = 0.02), interstitial lung disease (20.6% vs 63.0%, p < 0.01), skin rash (11.8% vs 48.1%, p < 0.01), arthralgia (2.9% vs 27.8%, p < 0.01), fever (2.9% vs 27.8%, p < 0.01), and dysphagia (2.9% vs 22.2%, p < 0.01) were more common in category II patients. Heart failure was the primary cause of death in category I, but severe pneumonia was predominantly responsible for deaths in category II., Conclusion: Two categories of IIM-CI were identified based on clinical features with distinctive characteristics. This report describes a male in his late 20s who presented with a 2-month history of recurrent haemoptysis and chest pain. A chronic infection, such as tuberculosis, was suspected. He had undergone surgical resection of an intrapericardial hydatid cyst in the past. His blood investigations showed peripheral eosinophilia, and his chest X-ray showed a cystic oval lesion in the left upper zone. A CT pulmonary angiogram revealed filling defects in the bilateral segmental and subsegmental arteries with a cystic lesion in the left upper lobe. Further workup, including bronchoalveolar lavage culture and MRI of the thorax, confirmed the diagnosis of a hydatid cyst of pulmonary echinococcosis. This case illustrates the presentation of multisystemic echinococcosis in a young male with no other risk factors, initially treated with surgical resection and antihelminthic therapy. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stands as a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality globally. While the acute and often fatal manifestations of locally advanced HCC primarily present within the abdomen, it is crucial to recognize that the respiratory and circulatory systems can also fall victim due to the liver's unique anatomical position within the body. Here, we present the case of a 63-year-old male recently diagnosed with locally advanced HCC with vascular invasion. Shortly after receiving target therapy and focal radiotherapy, the patient developed repeated secondary infections and a persistent diaphragmatic defect. As the necrotic tissue invaded the pleural space, subsequent tumor-to-bronchial and tumor-to-cardiac fistulas emerged, resulting in an abnormal connection between the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, leading to massive air emboli in circulation. This report highlights the risk of supradiaphragmatic complications in HCC patients with post-treatment secondary infections, particularly in patients predisposed to developing diaphragmatic defects.

Background: Stroke-induced heart syndrome is a feared complication of ischemic stroke, that is commonly encountered and has a strong association with unfavorable prognosis. More research is needed to explore underlying mechanisms and inform clinical decision making. This study aims to explore the relationship between the early systemic immune-inflammation (SII) index and the cardiac complications after acute ischemic stroke., Methods: Consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke were prospectively collected from January 2020 to August 2022 and retrospectively analyzed. We included subjects who presented within 24 hours after symptom onset and were free of detectable infections or cancer on admission. SII index [(neutrophils × platelets/ lymphocytes)/1000] was calculated from laboratory data at admission., Results: A total of 121 patients were included in our study, of which 24 (19.8 %) developed cardiac complications within 14 days following acute ischemic stroke. An 11-year-old male neutered American bulldog was presented for evaluation of thrombocytopenia, acute onset of ataxia, and vomiting. A new murmur was auscultated on physical examination. Transthoracic echocardiographic examination revealed a bicuspid aortic valve, vegetative lesions on the aortic valve, and continuous shunting from the aortic root to the left atrium through an aorta to left atrial fistula. The dog was euthanized due to its guarded prognosis and critical condition. Pathological examination confirmed presence of a bicuspid aortic valve, aorto-left atrial fistula, and aortic infective endocarditis. Background: Chronic lung and heart diseases are more likely to lead an intensive end point after stroke onset. We aimed to investigate characteristics and outcomes of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in patients with acute large vessel occlusion stroke (ALVOS) and identify the role of comorbid chronic cardiopulmonary diseases in ALVOS pathogenesis., Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, 191 consecutive patients who underwent EVT due to large vessel occlusion stroke in neurological intensive care unit were included. The chronic cardiopulmonary comorbidities and several conventional stroke risk factors were assessed. The primary efficacy outcome was functional independence (defined as a mRS of 0 to 2) at day 90. The primary safety outcomes were death within 90 days and the occurrence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage(sICH). Univariate analysis was applied to evaluate the relationship between factors and clinical outcomes, and logistic regression model were developed to predict the prognosis of ALVOS., Results: Endovascular therapy in ALVOS patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases, as compared with those without comorbidity, was associated with an unfavorable shift in the NHISS 24 h after EVT [8(4,15.25) versus 12(7.5,18.5), P = 0.005] and the lower percentage of patients who were functionally independent at 90 days, defined as a score on the modified Rankin scale of 0 to 2 (51.6% versus 25.4%, P = 0.000). There was no significant between-group difference in the frequency of mortality (12.1% versus 14.9%, P = 0.580) and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (13.7% versus 19.4%, P = 0.302) or of serious adverse events. Moreover, a prediction model showed that existence of cardiopulmonary comorbidities (OR = 0.456, 95%CI 0.209 to 0.992, P = 0.048) was independently associated with functional independence at day 90., Conclusions: EVT was safe in ALVOS patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases, whereas the unfavorable outcomes were achieved in such patients. Aims: Blood stasis is crucial in developing left atrial (LA) thrombi. LA appendage peak flow velocity (LAAFV) is a quantitative parameter for estimating thromboembolic risk. However, its impact on LA thrombus resolution and clinical outcomes remains unclear., Methods and Results: The LAT study was a multicentre observational study investigating patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and silent LA thrombi detected by transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Among 17 436 TEE procedures for patients with AF, 297 patients (1.7%) had silent LA thrombi. Excluding patients without follow-up examinations, we enrolled 169 whose baseline LAAFV was available. Oral anticoagulation use increased from 85.7% at baseline to 97.0% at the final follow-up (P < 0.001). During 1 year, LA thrombus resolution was confirmed in 130 (76.9%) patients within 76 (34-138) days. Conversely, 26 had residual LA thrombi, 8 had thromboembolisms, and 5 required surgical removal. These patients with failed thrombus resolution had lower baseline LAAFV than those with successful resolution (18.0 [15.8-22.0] vs. 22.2 [17.0-35.0], P = 0.003). Despite limited predictive power (area under the curve, 0.659; P = 0.001), LAAFV ≤ 20.0 cm/s (best cut-off) significantly predicted failed LA thrombus resolution, even after adjusting for potential confounders (odds ratio, 2.72; 95% confidence interval, 1.22-6.09; P = 0.015). The incidence of adverse outcomes including ischaemic stroke/systemic embolism, major bleeding, or all-cause death was significantly higher in patients with reduced LAAFV than in those with preserved LAAFV (28.4% vs. 11.6%, log-rank P = 0.005)., Conclusion: Failed LA thrombus resolution was not rare in patients with AF and silent LA thrombi. Background: Differentiating cardiovascular causes of dyspnea in resource-limited healthcare settings can be challenging. The use of easy-to-train, point-of-care, focused cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) protocols may potentially alleviate this challenge., Research Question: Can novices attain competency in FoCUS use after training using the cardiac ultrasound for resource-limited settings (CURLS) protocol?, Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Forty-five graduate medical pre-interns, novices in cardiac ultrasound, received simulated didactic and hands-on FoCUS skills training using the CURLS protocol and 2018 European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) FoCUS training and competence assessment recommendations. Competency was assessed in image interpretation, image acquisition, and image quality., Results: Aggregate image interpretation competency was attained by n = 38 (84%) of trainees with a median score of 80%. The proportion of trainees attaining category-specific image interpretation competency was as follows: pericardial effusion n = 44 (98%), left atrial enlargement n = 40 (89%), cardiomyopathy n = 38 (84%), left ventricular hypertrophy n = 37 (82%), and right ventricular enlargement n = 29 (64%). Image acquisition skills competency was attained by n = 36 (80%) of trainees. Three-quarters of trainee-obtained images were of good quality., Conclusion: Majority of the trainees attained competency. Hepatic abscesses are divided into bacterial and amoebic types. Although the prognosis of bacterial liver abscesses has improved owing to progress in drainage techniques and antimicrobial agents, poor outcomes remain common. While there have been some reports of amoebic liver abscesses complicated by thrombosis, bacterial liver abscesses and subsequent thrombus in the right atrium are very rare. We herein report the case of an 82-year-old man. He had suffered acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis 10 months previously, and bile culture yielded Enterococcus faecalis. In the present case, a right atrial thrombus caused by a bacterial liver abscess was observed and the causative organism was thought to be Enterococcus faecalis, for which was detected in a blood culture was positive. The patient was successfully treated with hepatic abscess drainage and surgical right atrial thrombectomy under cardiopulmonary bypass with a beating heart.

Introduction: Stroke-heart syndrome is a physiopathological condition of cardiac suffering due to cerebral injury secondary to major vessel occlusion in anterior circulation. It can be detected by increase in cardiac blood biomarkers. Our aim was to investigate a possible ancillary effect of thrombolysis in mitigating Stroke-Heart Syndrome after acute ischaemic stroke., Patients and Methods: We retrospectively collected ischaemic stroke patients admitted to our Stroke Unit between August 1, 2017 and December 31, 2020 and acutely treated for an intracranial anterior circulation occlusion, without anamnestic ischaemic cardiopathy. We divided patients into Group B ("Bridge") including patients treated with both thrombolysis and thrombectomy and Group D ("Direct") including primary thrombectomies., Results: 120 patients were included in the study. Group B consisted of 92 patients, Group D of 28 patients, without significant differences in age, baseline and discharge NIHSS, cardiovascular risk factors or TOAST aetiology. Whilst admission, troponin levels were similar in both groups, significant differences in troponin peak (median 16 ng/L in Group B vs 45 ng/L in Group D, p = 0.022) and BNP values (median 455 pg/mL in Group B vs 784 pg/mL in Group D, p = 0.031) were found in the first 72 h since admission. Functional independence at discharge was significantly higher in Group B than Group D (mRS 0-2 36% vs 10%, p = 0.011)., Discussion and Conclusion: Significant differences in troponin peak and BNP values suggest a reduced stroke-related heart impairment in patients treated with bridge therapeutic approach: thrombolysis prior to thrombectomy could have a complementary effect on reducing Stroke-Heart Syndrome, improving overall neurological outcome., (© 2024. Objectives: To investigate whether fetal cardiac function is affected by underlying heart disease in pregnant women., Methods: A total of 100 pregnant women who were ≥34 gestational weeks were included in the study, 40 in the maternal heart disease (MHD) group diagnosed with heart disease and 60 in the control group. All cardiac diseases in pregnant women were diagnosed preconceptionally and categorized according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification system. Fetal cardiac functions of study groups were evaluated by M-mode, color tissue Doppler imaging (c-TDI), and pulsed wave Doppler., Results: Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and myocardial performance index (MPI) values were significantly higher and isovolumetric relaxation time was prolonged in the MHD group. The MPI value was found higher in MHD group with NYHA Class II compared to those with NYHA Class I. No significant change in any of the fetal tricuspid annular peak velocity values measured by c-TDI in the MHD group. There were no differences in fetal cardiac functions and perinatal outcomes between pregnant women with acquired and congenital heart diseases. Patients in NYHA Class II had lower birth weight, 1st and 5th minute APGAR scores, and higher neonatal intensive care unit admission rates., Conclusions: Underlying heart diseases in pregnant women can cause alterations in the systolic and diastolic function of the fetal heart. High fetal MPI values detected in cardiac patients may indicate that cardiac pathologies during pregnancy affect fetal cardiac globular myocardial function. Pulmonary disease, lower respiratory tract infection, and pneumonia are the largest causes of morbidity and mortality in individuals with Down syndrome (DS), but whether pulmonary diagnoses in children with DS are common and occur independently of cardiac disease and pulmonary hypertension (PH) is unknown. Cardiopulmonary phenotypes were examined in a cohort of 1248 children with DS. Aptamer-based proteomic analysis of blood was performed in a subset (n = 120) of these children. By the age of 10 years, half of the patients in this cohort (n = 634, 50.8%) had co-occurring pulmonary diagnoses. That proteins and related pathways were distinct between children with pulmonary diagnoses and those with cardiac disease and/or PH may indicate that pulmonary diagnoses appear to occur independently of cardiac disease and PH. Background: Left-sided intracardiac thrombi are most commonly seen in conditions with decreased cardiac flow, such as myocardial infarction or atrial fibrillation. They can be propagated into the systemic circulation, leading to a cerebrovascular accident. Identification of thrombus-in-transit via point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has the potential to change patient management given its association with high patient morbidity and mortality., Case Report: An intubated 60-year-old man was transferred to our emergency department for management of altered mental status and seizure-like activity. The patient was markedly hypotensive on arrival, and cardiac POCUS was performed to identify potential causes of hypotension. A left ventricular thrombus-in-transit was identified. The thrombus was notably absent on a repeat POCUS examination < 10 min later, which led to concern for thrombus propagation. Furthermore, the patient's vasopressor requirements had significantly increased in that time period. Subsequent emergent neuroimaging revealed a large ischemic stroke in the left internal carotid and middle cerebral artery distribution. The patient was, unfortunately, deemed to not be a candidate for either thrombectomy or thrombolysis and ultimately expired in the hospital. Why Should an Emergency Physician Be Aware of This? Serial POCUS examinations identified the propagation of this patient's thrombus-in-transit, leading the physician to change the initial presumptive diagnosis and treatment course, and pursue further imaging and workup for ischemic stroke. Sudden cardiac death in children is a rare event, but of great social significance. Generally, it is related to heart disease with a risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD), which may occur with cardiovascular symptoms and/or electrocardiographic markers; thus, a primary care paediatrician (PCP) could detect them. Therefore, we proposed a study that assesses how to put into practice and conduct a cardiovascular assessment within the routine healthy-child check-ups at six and twelve years of age; that reflects cardiovascular signs and symptoms, as well as the electrocardiographic alterations that children with a risk of SCD in the selected population present; and that assesses the PCP's skill at electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation. In collaboration with PCPs, primary care nurses, and paediatric cardiologists, an observational, descriptive, multicentre, cross-sectional study was carried out in the Balearic Islands (Spain), from April 2021 to January 2022, inclusive. The PCPs gathered patient data through forms (medical record, electrocardiogram, and physical examination) and sent them to the investigator, together with the informed consent document and electrocardiogram. The investigator passed the electrocardiogram on to the paediatric cardiologists for reading, in an identical form to those the paediatricians had filled in. The variables were collected, and a descriptive analysis performed. Three paediatric cardiologists, twelve PCPs, and nine nurses from seven public health centres took part. They collected the data from 641 patients, but 233 patients did not participate (in 81.11% due to the PCP's workload). Therefore, the study coverage was around 64%, representing the quotient of the total number of patients who participated, divided by the total number of patients who were eligible for the study. We detected 30 patients with electrocardiographic alterations compatible with SCD risk. Nine of these had been examined by a paediatric cardiologist at some time (functional murmur in 8/9), five had reported shortness of breath with exercise, and four had reported a family history of sudden death. The physical examination of all the patients whose ECG was compatible with a risk of SCD was normal. Upon analysing to what extent the ECG results of the PCP and the paediatric cardiologist agreed, the percentage of agreement in the final interpretation (normal/altered) was 91.9%, while Cohen's kappa coefficient was 31.2% (CI 95%: 13.8-48.6%). The sensitivity of the ECG interpretation by the PCP to detect an ECG compatible with a risk of SCD was 29% and the positive predictive value 45%.     Conclusions: This study lays the foundations for future SCD risk screening in children, performed by PCPs. However, previously, it would be important to optimise their training in reading and interpreting paediatric ECGs. What is Known: • In Spain at present, there is a programme in place to detect heart disease with a risk of sudden death [1], but it targets only children who are starting on or are doing a physical activity as a federated sport. Implementing such screening programmes has proven effective in several countries [2]. However, several studies showed that the incidence of sudden cardiac death is no higher in children competing in sport activities than in those who do not do any sport [3]. This poses an ethical conflict, because at present, children who do not do any federated sport are excluded from screening. According to the revised literature, so far, only in two studies did they screen the child population at schools, and in both, they successfully detected patients with heart disease associated to the risk of sudden death [4, 5]. We have found no studies where the screening of these features was included within the routine healthy-child check-ups by primary care paediatricians. What is New: • We did not know whether-in our setting, at present-the primary care paediatrician could perform a screening method within the routine healthy-child check-ups, in order to detect presumably healthy children at risk of sudden cardiac death, as they present one of the SCD risks. In this regard, we proposed our project: to assess how to put into practice and conduct a cardiovascular assessment via SCD risk screening in the healthy child population by primary care paediatricians and appraise primary care paediatricians' skills in identifying the electrocardiographic alterations associated with SCD risk. Background. Neonatal high blood pressure has been diagnosed more frequently in recent years, and its impact extends to adulthood. However, the knowledge gaps on associated factors, diagnosis, and treatment are challenging for medical personnel. The incidence of this condition varies depending on neonatal conditions. Patients in the Newborn Unit are at increased risk of developing high blood pressure. The persistence of this condition beyond the neonatal stage increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease in childhood and adulthood. Methodology. A case-control study was carried out. It included hospitalized patients with neonatal hypertension as cases. Three controls were randomly selected for each case and matched by gestational age. The variables were analyzed based on their nature. Multivariate analysis was performed using a multivariate conditional regression model to identify variables associated with the outcome. Finally, the model was adjusted for possible confounders. Results. 37 cases were obtained and matched with 111 controls. In the univariate analysis, heart disease (OR 2.86; 95% CI 1.22-6.71), kidney disease (OR 7.24; 95% CI 1.92-28.28), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (OR 6.62; 95% CI 1.42-50.82) and major surgical procedures (OR 3.71; 95% CI 1.64-8.39) had an association with neonatal arterial hypertension. Only the latter maintained this finding in the multivariate analysis (adjusted OR 2.88; 95% CI 1.14-7.30). A significant association of two or more comorbidities with neonatal arterial hypertension was also found (OR 3.81; 95% CI 1.53-9.49). Conclusions. The study analyzed the factors related to high blood pressure in hospitalized neonates, finding relevant associations in the said population. Background: The limited ability of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) in removing globotriaosylceramide from cardiomyocytes is recognized for advanced Fabry disease cardiomyopathy (FDCM). Prehypertrophic FDCM is believed to be cured or stabilized by ERT. However, no pathologic confirmation is available. We report here on the long-term clinical-pathologic impact of ERT on prehypertrophic FDCM., Methods and Results: Fifteen patients with Fabry disease with left ventricular maximal wall thickness ≤10.5 mm at cardiac magnetic resonance required endomyocardial biopsy because of angina and ventricular arrhythmias. Endomyocardial biopsy showed coronary small-vessel disease in the angina cohort, and vacuoles in smooth muscle cells and cardiomyocytes ≈20% of the cell surface containing myelin bodies at electron microscopy. Patients received α-agalsidase in 8 cases, and β-agalsidase in 7 cases. Both groups experienced symptom improvement except 1 patients treated with α-agalsidase and 1 treated with β-agalsidase. After ERT administration ranging from 4 to 20 years, all patients had control cardiac magnetic resonance and left ventricular endomyocardial biopsy because of persistence of symptoms or patient inquiry on disease resolution. In 13 asymptomatic patients with FDCM, left ventricular maximal wall thickness and left ventricular mass, cardiomyocyte diameter, vacuole surface/cell surface ratio, and vessels remained unchanged or minimally increased (left ventricular mass increased by <2%) even after 20 years of observation, and storage material was still present at electron microscopy. In 2 symptomatic patients, FDCM progressed, with larger and more engulfed by globotriaosylceramide myocytes being associated with myocardial virus-negative lymphocytic inflammation., Conclusions: ERT stabilizes storage deposits and myocyte dimensions in 87% of patients with prehypertrophic FDCM. Globotriaosylceramide is never completely removed even after long-term treatment. Immune-mediated myocardial inflammation can overlap, limiting ERT activity.

A dog was presented for lameness, fever, and extreme lethargy. On physical exam, a new heart murmur, arrhythmia, and joint effusion were detected. These findings were not detected two months prior. A diagnostic work-up confirmed septic suppurative inflammation in multiple joints. Echocardiogram revealed aortic valvular endocarditis along with a communication, as a consequence of a fistula, that extended from just below the aortic sinotubular junction to the left atrial lumen. Due to a poor prognosis, humane euthanasia was elected. Necropsy and histopathology confirmed infective endocarditis of the aortic valve and an aorto-left atrial fistulous tract extending from the left coronary sinus of the aortic valve to the lumen of left atrium., (Published by Elsevier B.V.)

Diabetic ketoacidosis in children is associated with a wide gamut of complications, which can be either disease- or therapy-related. Common complications in children with DKA include cerebral edema, acute kidney injury, hypokalemia, hypoglycemia, etc. As opposed to asymptomatic hypophosphatemia, which is common during the management of DKA, severe symptomatic hypophosphatemia leading to life-threatening complications like rhabdomyolysis, hemolysis, respiratory failure secondary to muscle weakness, and cardiac complications are rare. Cardiac dysfunction among cirrhotic patients has long been recognized in the medical community. While it was originally believed to be a direct result of alcohol toxicity, in the last 30 years cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM) has been described as a syndrome characterized by chronic cardiac dysfunction in cirrhotic patients in the absence of known cardiac disease, regardless of the etiology of cirrhosis. CCM occurs in about 60% of patients with cirrhosis and plays a critical role in disease progression and treatment outcomes. Due to its predominantly asymptomatic course, diagnosing CCM is challenging and requires a high index of suspicion and a multiparametric approach. Patients with CCM usually present with the following triad: impaired myocardial contractile response to exercise, inadequate ventricular relaxation, and electrophysiological abnormalities (notably prolonged QT interval). In recent years, research in this area has grown expeditiously and a new set of diagnostic criteria has been developed by the Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy Consortium, to properly identify patients with CCM. Nevertheless, CCM is still largely unknown among clinicians, and a major part of its pathophysiology and treatment is yet to be understood. Frailty is a multi-dimensional clinical syndrome that is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and decreased quality of life. Children/adolescents with heart disease (HD) perform significantly worse for each frailty domain compared to non-HD peers. Our study aimed to create a composite frailty score (CFS) that can be applied to children/adolescents with HD and evaluate associations between the CFS and outcomes. Children and adolescents (n = 30) with HD (73% single ventricle, 20% heart failure, 7% pulmonary hypertension) were recruited from 2016 to 2017 (baseline). Five frailty domains were assessed at baseline using measures validated for pediatrics: (1) Slowness: 6-min walk test; (2) Weakness: handgrip strength; (3) Fatigue: PedsQL Multi-dimensional Fatigue Scale; (4) Body composition: triceps skinfold thickness; and (5) Physical activity questionnaire. Frailty points per domain (range = 0-5) were assigned based on z-scores or raw questionnaire scores and summed to produce a CFS (0 = least frail; 25 = most frail). Nonparametric bootstrapping was used to identify correlations between CFS and cross-sectional change in outcomes over 2.2 ± 0.2 years. The mean CFS was 12.5 ± 3.5. In cross-sectional analyses of baseline data, correlations (|r|≥ 0.30) were observed between CFS and NYHA class, the number of ancillary specialists, total prescribed medications, heart failure medications/day, exercise test derived chronotropic index and percent predicted VO 2peak , and between child and parent proxy PEDsQL. At follow-up, CFS was correlated with an increase in the number of heart failure medications (r = 0.31). CFS was associated with cross-sectional outcomes in youth with heart disease. Introduction: Atrioventricular block may be idiopathic or a secondary manifestation of an underlying systemic disease. Cardiac sarcoidosis is a significant underlying cause of high-grade atrioventricular block, posing diagnostic challenges and significant clinical implications. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and clinical characteristics of cardiac sarcoidosis among younger patients presenting with unexplained high-grade atrioventricular block., Methods: We evaluated patients aged between 18 and 65 years presenting with unexplained high-grade atrioventricular block, who were systematically referred for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography-computed tomography, or both, prior to pacemaker implantation. Subjects with suspected cardiac sarcoidosis based on imaging findings were further referred for tissue biopsy. Cardiac sarcoidosis diagnosis was confirmed based on biopsy results., Results: Overall, 30 patients with high-grade atrioventricular block were included in the analysis. The median age was 56.5 years (interquartile range 53-61.75, years). In 37%, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography-computed tomography, or both, were suggestive of cardiac sarcoidosis, and in 33% cardiac sarcoidosis was confirmed by tissue biopsy. Compared with idiopathic high-grade atrioventricular block patients, all cardiac sarcoidosis patients were males (100% vs 60%, P = .029), were more likely to present with heart failure symptoms (50% vs 10%, P = .047), had thicker inter-ventricular septum on echocardiography (12.2 ± 2.7 mm vs 9.45 ± 1.6 mm, P = .002), and were more likely to present with right ventricular dysfunction (33% vs 10%, P = .047)., Conclusions: Cardiac sarcoidosis was confirmed in one-third of patients ≤ 65 years, who presented with unexplained high-grade atrioventricular block. Background: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a heritable connective tissue disorder associated with generalized joint hypermobility but also other multisystem comorbidities, many of which may be exacerbated during a viral illness or after a vaccination. We sought to determine whether individuals with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome report an increase in adverse events, including cardiovascular events, after COVID-19 illness or vaccination., Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was made available from November 22, 2021, through March 15, 2022. 368 respondents primarily from the United States self-reported data including diagnosis. We used a Cox proportional hazards model with time varying indicators for COVID-19 illness or vaccination in the previous 30 days., Results: We found a significantly increased rate of new abnormal heart rhythms reported in the 30 days following COVID-19 illness. No additional cardiovascular events were reported after COVID-19 illness. 2.5% of respondents with COVID-19 illness were hospitalized. We did not find a statistically significant increased rate of cardiovascular events in the 30 days following any COVID-19 vaccination dose. Post COVID-19 vaccination, 87.2% of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome respondents endorsed an expected adverse event (EAE), and 3.1% reported an emergency department visit/hospitalization, of those who received at least one vaccine dose. Events possibly reflecting exacerbation of orthostasis/dysautonomia were common., Conclusion: Respondents did not report an increased rate of any cardiovascular events in the 30 days following COVID-19 vaccination; however, those with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome experienced a high rate of expected adverse events after vaccination consistent with a high baseline prevalence of similar symptoms. Background: Influenza viruses cause pneumonia in approximately one-third of cases, and pneumonia is an important cause of death. The aim was to identify risk factors associated with severity and those that could predict the development of pneumonia., Methods: This retrospective, observational study included all adult patients with confirmed influenza virus infection admitted to Son Espases University Hospital during four influenza seasons in Spain (October to May) from to 2012-2016., Results: Overall, 666 patients with laboratory-confirmed influenza were included, 93 (14%) of which were severe; 73 (10.9%) were admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 39 (5.8%) died, and 185 (27.7%) developed pneumonia. Compared to less severe cases, patients with severe disease: were less vaccinated (40% vs. 28%, p = 0.021); presented with more confusion (26.9% vs. 6.8%), were more hypoxemic (Horowitz index (PaO 2 /FiO 2 ) 261 vs. 280), had higher C-reactive protein (CRP) (12.3 vs. 4.0), had more coinfections (26.8% vs. 6.3%) and had more pleural effusion (14% vs. 2.6%) (last six all p < 0.001). Risk factors significantly associated with severity were pneumonia [OR (95% CI) = 4.14 (2.4-7.16)], history of heart disease (1.84, 1.03-3.28), and confusion at admission (4.99, 2.55-9.74). Influenza vaccination was protective (0.53, 0.28-0.98). Compared to those without pneumonia, the pneumonia group had higher CRP (11.3 vs. 4.0, p < 0.001), lower oxygen saturation (92% vs. 94%, p < 0.001), were more hypoxic (PaO 2 /FiO 2 266 vs. 281, p < 0.001), and incurred more mechanical ventilation, septic shock, admission to the ICU, and deaths (all four p < 0.001). Background: Knowledge of toxicological findings among sports-related sudden cardiac death (SrSCD) is scarce., Objectives: This study aimed to describe postmortem toxicology findings in a multinational cohort of young SrSCD., Methods: Patients with sudden cardiac death (SCD) aged 12 to 49 years with a complete post mortem were included from Denmark, Spain, and Australia. Postmortem findings were compared between SrSCD and non-SrSCD, and toxicology findings in SrSCD were assessed., Results: We included 3,189 SCD, of which 219 (7%) were sports-related. SrSCD patients were younger (36 years vs 41 years; P < 0.001) and of male predominance (96% vs 75%; P < 0.001), and their death was more often caused by structural cardiac disease (68% vs 61%; P = 0.038). Positive toxicology screenings were significantly less likely among SrSCD than non-SrSCD (12% vs 43%; P < 0.001), corresponding to 82% lower odds of a positive toxicology screening in SrSCD. Patient characteristics were similar between SrSCDs with positive and negative toxicology screenings, but deaths were more often unexplained (59% vs 34%). Nonopioid analgesics were the most common finding (3%), and SCD-associated drugs were detected in 6% of SrSCD. SUD was more prevalent among the SrSCD with positive toxicology (59% vs 34%)., Conclusions: Sports-related SCD mainly occurred in younger men with structural heart disease. Background: Antimicrobial envelopes reduce the incidence of cardiac implantable electronic device infections, but their cost restricts routine use in the United Kingdom. Risk scoring could help to identify which patients would most benefit from this technology., Methods: A novel risk score (BLISTER [Blood results, Long procedure time, Immunosuppressed, Sixty years old (or younger), Type of procedure, Early re-intervention, Repeat procedure]) was derived from multivariate analysis of factors associated with cardiac implantable electronic device infection. Diagnostic utility was assessed against the existing PADIT score (Prior procedure, Age, Depressed renal function, Immunocompromised, Type of procedure) in both standard and high-risk external validation cohorts, and cost-utility models examined different BLISTER and PADIT score thresholds for TYRX (Medtronic; Minneapolis, MN) antimicrobial envelope allocation., Results: In a derivation cohort (n=7383), cardiac implantable electronic device infection occurred in 59 individuals within 12 months of a procedure (event rate, 0.8%). In addition to the PADIT score constituents, lead extraction (hazard ratio, 3.3 [95% CI, 1.9-6.1]; P <0.0001), C-reactive protein >50 mg/L (hazard ratio, 3.0 [95% CI, 1.4-6.4]; P =0.005), reintervention within 2 years (hazard ratio, 10.1 [95% CI, 5.6-17.9]; P <0.0001), and top-quartile procedure duration (hazard ratio, 2.6 [95% CI, 1.6-4.1]; P =0.001) were independent predictors of infection. The BLISTER score demonstrated superior discriminative performance versus PADIT in the standard risk (n=2854, event rate: 0.8%, area under the curve, 0.82 versus 0.71; P =0.001) and high-risk validation cohorts (n=1961, event rate: 2.0%, area under the curve, 0.77 versus 0.69; P =0.001), and in all patients (n=12 198, event rate: 1%, area under the curve, 0.8 versus 0.75, P =0.002). In decision-analytic modeling, the optimum scenario assigned antimicrobial envelopes to patients with BLISTER scores ≥6 (10.8%), delivering a significant reduction in infections (relative risk reduction, 30%; P =0.036) within the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence cost-utility thresholds (incremental cost-effectiveness ratio, £18 446)., Conclusions: The BLISTER score (https://qxmd.com/calculate/calculator&#95;876/the-blister-score-for-cied-infection) was a valid predictor of cardiac implantable electronic device infection, and could facilitate cost-effective antimicrobial envelope allocation to high-risk patients., Competing Interests: Disclosures None.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), such as heart disease and stroke, have a significant impact on life expectancy, healthy life expectancy, and medical costs in Japan. Each prefecture is currently promoting measures in accordance with the Japanese National Plan for Promotion of Measures Against Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Disease, which was established by the government. In recent years, the crude mortality rate of heart disease in Japan has been increasing year by year with the aging population. Meanwhile, the age-adjusted mortality rate has leveled off or shown a downward trend. In addition, the proportion of acute myocardial infarction has decreased, whereas the proportion of heart failure has increased. By contrast, both the crude and age-adjusted mortality rates of stroke have a declining trend. Nevertheless, considering the potential variations in death certificates issued for patients with myocardial infarction across different prefectures, it is crucial to determine the incidence of CVD in each prefecture for the accurate assessment of CVD trends. However, as for the incidence of CVD, not many prefectures have yet implemented registration programs. The age-adjusted incidence rate of acute myocardial infarction has been increasing in some areas and decreasing in others since 1990. The age-adjusted incidence rate of stroke has consistently declined since the 1960s. Nevertheless, the possible increase in the incidence rate of cerebral embolism and thrombotic cerebral infarction among patients with different stroke subtypes is a cause of concern. The impact of heart failure on the incidence of heart disease has increased. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and pulmonary hypertension associated with left-sided heart and lung diseases are most commonly easily discriminated and treated accordingly. With the changing epidemiology of PAH, however, a growing proportion of patients at the time of diagnosis present with comorbidities of varying severity. In addition to classical PAH, two distinct phenotypes have emerged: a heart failure with preserved ejection fraction-like phenotype and a lung phenotype. Importantly, the evidence supporting the currently proposed treatment algorithm for PAH has been generated mainly from PAH trials in which patients with cardiopulmonary comorbidities have been underrepresented or excluded. As a consequence, the best therapeutic approach for patients with common PAH with cardiopulmonary comorbidities remains largely unknown and requires further investigation. Hypertension (HTN) is a common chronic condition associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Anthropometric indices of adiposity are known to be associated with a risk of HTN. The aim of this study was to identify the anthropometric indices that best associate with HTN in an Iranian population. 9704 individuals aged 35-65 years were recruited as part of the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorder (MASHAD) study. Demographic and anthropometric data of all participants were recorded. HTN was defined as a systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 140 mmHg, and/ or a diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥ 90 mmHg on two subsequent measurements, or being treated with oral drug therapy for BP. Data mining methods including Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), and Bootstrap Forest (BF) were applied. Of 9704 participants, 3070 had HTN, and 6634 were normotensive. LR showed that body roundness index (BRI), body mass index (BMI) and visceral adiposity index (VAI) were significantly associated with HTN in both genders (P < 0.0001). BRI showed the greatest association with HTN (OR = 1.276, 95%CI = (1.224, 1.330)). For BMI we had OR = 1.063, 95%CI = (1.047, 1.080), for VAI we had OR = 1.029, 95%CI = (1.020, 1.038). An age < 47 years and BRI < 4.04 was associated with a 90% probability of being normotensive. The BF indicated that age, sex and BRI had the most important role in HTN. In summary, among anthropometric indices the most powerful indicator for discriminating hypertensive from normotensive patients was BRI., (© 2023.
