BACKGROUND: In India, the prevalence of Latent TB infection (LTBI) is estimated to be around 40%. Various formulations of PPD(Purified protein derivative) are available, for diagnosis of LTBI, which may give variable responses. The commercially available PPD in India is by Arkray Healthcare (TST-Arkray). It is unclear if this product may have a similar sensitivity compared to other internationally accepted tuberculins (TST-Tubersol). OBJECTIVES: To assess the performance of the two TSTs compared to Quantiferon-Gold Plus (QFT-Plus). METHODOLOGY: A blood sample was collected for the QFT-Plus test. Both the TSTs were placed in the right and the left volar aspect of the forearms and 48 hrs later, the subjects came back to the study site for reading. RESULTS: Among the 512 participants who were recruited, 326 subjects were healthcare professionals and 186 subjects were household contacts of patients with tuberculosis. They were tested with both TST-Tubersol and TST-Arkray, 139(27 %) participants tested positive for TST-Tubersol (≥10 mm), whereas 203 participants (40.1 %)tested positive for TST-Arkray. There was moderate agreement between the two tests with k = 0.58. Also, there was only poor agreement between both the TSTs with QFT Plus(kappa = 0.19 for Tubersol and 0.17 for Arkray). With QFT-Plus as gold standard, the sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of TST-Tubersol, ast an induration cut-off of 10 mm was 46.8 %,76.3 %,31.8 % and 85.8 %. respectively and TST- Arkray; 60.6 %, 64 %, 28.5 % and 87.2 % respectively. CONCLUSION: The Indian TST (Arkray Diagnostics) has shown moderate agreement with the internationally accepted Tubersol. Additionally, there was poor agreement between the TSTs and QFT plus test.

BACKGROUND: Health care provider stress and emotional distress were well documented long before the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is growing data suggesting these have increased in response to the pandemic. The goal of this study was to take advantage of the unique experiences of licensed mental health (MH) clinicians working with health care trainees and clinicians before and during the pandemic to identify how this crisis affected both ongoing as well as new sources of stress. The Healer Education, Assessment and Referral Program (HEAR) provides MH screening, support, and MH referrals to ~19 000 health care students, trainees, staff, and faculty. Since its inception in 2009, the program has been staffed by 4 licensed counseling professionals who have worked both before and since the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Qualitative data obtained from semi-structured, 1-hour interviews and a follow-up 1-hour focus group with 4 HEAR counselors was analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS: Several preexisting stressors were amplified during the pandemic: financial concerns; long work hours; exposure to the suffering of illness, death, and dying; bullying; discordant values and moral distress; social inequities; individuals lack of adaptive coping; and individuals self-concept as a victim. New stressors included: health care demand greater than the workforce numbers and resources; caretaking for ill family/friends; homeschooling of children; social isolation; experiencing the COVID-19 crisis as a war, fire, or storm; fear of personal illness and death, especially before vaccines; and hopes of a cure with vaccines; followed by perceived opportunities for improvement in leadership response to staff concerns. CONCLUSION: Authentically responding to staff concerns/ideas, a patient and provider-centered health care culture, grief education and support, and attention to actionable stressors affecting providers well-being are indicated to meet the amplified and new stressors triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and sequelae.

Workplace violence (WPV) is a commonly reported occupational hazard in healthcare and its prevalence is increasing. WPV occurs in all types of practice settings, but little is known about WPV in primary care settings in the United States (US). Because primary care practice settings differ from the inpatient settings, further examination of WPV in primary care is warranted. Our objective was to summarize the available literature highlight important gaps. We conducted a search using Pubmed and OVID for US studies of WPV in US-based adult primary care practices. Studies including only pediatric populations were excluded. Due to the lack of available literature conducted in US primary care settings, we expanded our search to include international studies. We identified 70 studies of which 5 were US based. Due to the lack of significant numbers of US-based studies, we opted to conduct a narrative review of all available studies. The evidence shows that WPV is a common occurrence in primary care settings in many countries and that the majority of primary care clinicians have experienced at least some form of non-physical violence in their careers. Most of the studies conducted were cross-sectional in design and reported on both non-physical and physical forms of WPV. There was not a consistent trend between genders in experiencing the major forms of WPV, but women were consistently more likely to be subjected to sexual harassment. Potential root causes for WPV could generally be categorized as patient-level, clinician-level, clinical encounter specific, and operational root causes. While most WPV was found to be non-physical, it still had significant emotional and job-related impacts on clinicians. Background: Rapid timescales for the design and delivery of research were common during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recruitment and retention of healthcare workers (HCWs) as participants in research studies are notoriously challenging, but this was exacerbated during the pandemic by the unprecedented demand placed on the workforce. The SARS-CoV-2 Immunity and Reinfection Evaluation (SIREN study) is a prospective multicentre cohort study following HCWs in the UK. This paper discusses the strategies and challenges associated with recruitment and retention of HCW participants in Scotland. Methods: There were 44,546 HCWs recruited to the SIREN study, of whom 6,285 were recruited by research teams at ten different research sites in Scotland between October 2020 and March 2021. Information on target and actual sample size, availability of resource, recruitment rate, and recruitment and engagement strategies by site was collated from SIREN study documentation and discussions with local key SIREN site staff. Individual-level data from 6,153 HCW participants with ongoing consent for all data usage were also collated, including socio-demographic data and information on withdrawal (in first year) and opt-in to a study extension after one year. Factors associated with these outcomes were explored in logistic regression analyses. Results: Different recruitment strategies were used in each site according to local agreements, protocol and staff capacity, with the recruitment period ranging from 13 to 160 days. The locally-agreed recruitment target was met in four sites. The proportion of participants who withdrew in the first year ranged from 3.1 to 24.8% by site, while subsequent opt-in to a 12-month study extension ranged from 28.6 to 74.8%. The sites with the highest proportions of withdrawals were the same four sites with lowest proportions of opt-in. On an individual level, there was a lower level of retention among younger participants, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and minority ethnic groups. Conclusions: Site-specific factors including research-readiness likely had a significant influence on recruitment and retention, more so than the specific recruitment or retention strategies employed. Independent of site factors, individual-level variables influenced recruitment and retention, suggesting targeted strategies may be needed to promote research engagement among particular socio-demographic groups. Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, many health care workers were involved and suffered significant physical and psychological strain, and nursing was one of themain players. Clearly and objectively establishing the psychological impact on nurses during the pandemic is necessary for long-term recovery and to be prepared for new outbreaks in the future. Aim: The aims of this study were to evaluate the perceived impact on nurses at risk of psychological stress at work during a major health care crisis and determine the psychological impact and its influencing factors. Methods: An online questionnaire was designed and distributed between April 9 and April 19, 2020, in Spain. The comprehensive self-conducted questionnaire included demographic information and the Psychological Stress and Adaptation at work Score. For the analysis, descriptive statistics, logistic regressions, and receiver operating characteristic curves were determined. Results: A total of 825 nurses (33% working in intensive care units and emergency departments) answered the questionnaire. A logistic regression analysis revealed that nurses with higher psychological stress scores experienced more physical overload (P = .02), higher psychological overload (P < .01), poor teamwork (P = .02), more distress due to new circumstances (P < .01), more personal impact of how society responded to COVID-19 (P < .01), anticipation of negative future consequences (P < .01), and worse balance between family and work (P < .01). The area under the curve for the cutoff point of Psychological Stress and Adaptation at work Score 40 was 0.82 (95% confidence interval, 0.79-0.91), with 70% sensitivity and 81% specificity. The positive predictive value was 72%, and the negative predictive value was 80%. Conclusion: Psychological Stress and Adaptation at work Score is a rapid and accurate test for evaluating the psychological well-being of health care staff that can be used when crisis prevents the use of conventional stress diagnosismethods. Background: Health care workers lack knowledge about human Mpox, and most are not confident in their abilities to identify and manage cases. The study's objectives are to improve healthcare workers ' knowledge and attitudes regarding Mpox infections and to help them become confident in diagnosis and management. Methods: This study was carried out in two stages. The first phase involved a cross-sectional survey of 206 healthcare workers, utilizing the snowball sampling approach, to evaluate their knowledge and attitudes regarding Mpox using a self-administered questionnaire. The second phase was a pre-posttest study with stratified random sampling method to improve the participants' knowledge and attitude towards Mpox among health care workers. Results: In phase one, 7.3% of the 206 participants had good knowledge with a mean knowledge score of 14.2 ± 6.1, and 89.3% had a positive attitude. In phase two, there was significant improvement in the score of knowledge post intervention immediately [28.6 ± 1.7] and after one month [28.5 ± 1.4] compared with before (6.2 ± 8.3). The improvement in knowledge level was from 5.7% before to 100% after the intervention. The positive attitude frequency also increased from 42.9% to 100% [p < 0.001]. Conclusion: In conclusion the knowledge and attitude level towards human Mpox infection in our study were considered low. Background Vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can mitigate the burden of health care worker (HCW) infection. We investigate the burden of HCW illness and its associated direct health care personnel costs in the setting of widespread vaccine availability and explore factors influencing these outcomes. Methods This multicenter prospective study followed HCWs over an 8-month period from January to August 2023. Data recorded included incident COVID-19 infection, symptom burden, workdays missed, and vaccine history. Workdays lost due to illness were used to calculate direct health care personnel costs due to COVID-19 infection. Univariate analysis and multivariable regression investigated the factors associated with workdays lost and direct health care personnel. Results In total, 1218 participants were enrolled and followed for 8 months, with 266 incidents of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, 1191 workdays lost, and health care personnel costs of €397 974. Multivariable regression revealed that workdays lost were associated with incomplete primary COVID-19 vaccination course. Being unvaccinated, older age, and male were associated with increased health care personnel costs. Conclusions Health care workdays lost remain a significant issue and are associated with health care system burden despite vaccine availability. These can be mitigated via targeted implementation of vaccine programs. Seasonal variation in health care workdays lost should inform workforce planning to accommodate surge periods. Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers (HCWs) experienced increased anxiety, depression, loneliness, and other mental health issues. HCWs need additional resources to cope with the mental health impact of their work. Yoga techniques could be helpful strategies to manage different stressors during times of uncertainty. Methods: This prospective, single-arm, trial examined the effects of a brief pranayama yoga practice on the wellbeing of HCWs during the height of COVID-19. HCWs were recruited through announcements and institutional websites at a large major cancer center in the southern United States. A short, prerecorded, 5-min breathwork video intervention called "Simha Kriya" was provided to participants, and they were encouraged to practice one to two times daily for 4 weeks. Participants completed self-report instruments at baseline and weeks 1 and 4, including: (1) Perceived Stress Scale (PSS); (2) Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS); and (3) a questionnaire assessing the experience of COVID-19 among HCWs that had five subscales. HCWs also conducted a measure of breath holding time. Paired sample t-tests and mixed-effects analysis of variance models examined changes over time. Results: One hundred participants consented to the study, with 88 female, 60 white, 39 worked remotely, and 27 were clinical staff. Sixty-nine participants provided data at week 1 and 56 at week 4. Participants' adherence to the breathing exercises between weeks 1 and 4 was similar, with a mean of six times per week. At week 4, there were significant decreases in the COVID-19 Distress score (p < 0.0001) and COVID-19 Disruption (p = 0.013), yet no changes in the PSS. There were also significant increases in COVID-19 Stress Management (p = 0.0001) and BRCS scores (p = 0.012), but no changes in Perceived Benefits of COVID-19 and no changes in breath holding time. Discussion: Brief yoga-based breathing practices helped reduce pandemic-specific stress, improved resilience, and stress management skills in HCWs. Trial Registration Number: NCT04482647. This study analyzes immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and infection, including asymptomatic cases, focusing on infection risks during the Omicron wave, particularly among high-risk healthcare workers. In the KoCo-Impf study, we monitored 6088 vaccinated participants in Munich aged 18 and above. From 13 May to 31 July 2022, 2351 participants were follow-uped. Logistic regression models evaluated primary, secondary, and breakthrough infections (BTIs). Roche Elecsys® Anti-SARS-CoV-2 assays detected prior infections (via anti-Nucleocapsid antibodies) and assessed vaccination/infection impact (via anti-Spike antibodies) using dried blood spots. Our findings revealed an anti-Nucleocapsid seroprevalence of 44.1%. BTIs occurred in 38.8% of participants, with reinfections in 48.0%. Follow-up participation was inversely associated with current smoking and non-vaccination, while significantly increasing with age and receipt of three vaccine doses. Larger household sizes and younger age increased infection risks, whereas multiple vaccinations and older age reduced them. Household size and specific institutional subgroups were risk factors for BTIs. The anti-Nucleocapsid value prior to the second infection was significantly associated with reinfection risk. Institutional subgroups influenced all models, underscoring the importance of tailored outbreak responses. The KoCo-Impf study underscores the importance of vaccination, demographic factors, and institutional settings in understanding SARS-CoV-2 infection risks during the Omicron wave. The management of labor pain is a critical aspect of maternal care, with implications for the well-being of both the mother and the newborn. Nonpharmacological pain management (NPPM) offers a safe and more accessible option to labor pain management in African healthcare settings. This review aims to determine the facilitators of and barriers to using NPPM during labor among healthcare professionals (HCPs) in Africa. This integrative review was done using articles that focused on NPPM and published between 2013 and 2023. Databases searched include PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, and EMBASE. Content analysis was done independently by two reviewers using inductive coding to generate categories. Three main themes emerged: Perceived barriers to the utilization of NPPM among HCPs, categories that emerged under this theme include lack of training, resource limitation, lack of priority, cultural norms and beliefs, and lack of awareness. The second theme is potential facilitators to the utilization of NPPM among HCP, the categories generated include healthcare provider' knowledge, positive attitude of healthcare providers, family support, infrastructure/working environment, experiences of HCPs, and client preferences. The third theme that emerged is the most utilized methods of NPPM among HCPs, with back massage and psychological support being the most used, whereas music and exercise were the least NPPM methods used by HCPs. The findings from this study show that the attitudes and knowledge of HCPs about NPPM can either be a facilitator or a barrier in its utilization. In the clinical setting, HCPs need to be sensitized on the benefits of using these methods of pain management during labor to encourage use. Background: Primary health care being the first level of contact, constitutes the process of continuing health care and seeks support from the rest of the health system. This support would be required in the areas of (a) consultation on health problems, (b) referral of patients to local or other specialized institutions; (c) supportive supervision and guidance and (d) logistic support and supplies. Materials & Methods: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among the adult decision maker female of the households in the rural field practice area of Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Amritsar after approval from Institutional Ethics committee. The collected data were entered into MS Excel and analyzed using Epi info software version 7. Descriptive statistics were presented in frequency and percentages and Chi-square test applied to assess the statistical association. Results: Out of the total 1521 respondents, 995 women visited the nearest public health facility to avail services while 526 women did not avail any service. Amongst 1521 respondents, 1144, 642 and 1257 respondents had ever met MPHW(F), MPHW(M) and ASHA worker respectively; out of these, 87.9% respondents were satisfied with the behaviour of MPHW(F), 84.4% with MPHW(M) and 73.6% with the behaviour of ASHA worker. Conclusions: The proportion of respondents satisfied with the behaviour of attending doctor or health worker was seen to be more in village with Subsidary Health centre as Public health facility followed by village with Subcentre and village without any public health facility. Facial-protective equipment (FPE) use increased during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This study explored factors influencing home care personal support workers' (PSWs) and nurses' self-reported adherence to FPE. A cross-sectional, electronic, survey was distributed to PSWs and nurses (1,108 complete responses) at 3 home care agencies in Ontario, Canada, in May to June 2022. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariable analysis were used to assess individual, environmental, and organizational factors influencing adherence. Among participants (786 PSWs, 322 nurses), 64% reported being adherent to both respiratory and eye FPE (Respiratory: 96%, Eye: 64%). Higher adherence was associated with facility-based work; better knowledge of FPE; prepandemic FPE use; good availability and convenient access; strong organizational support for health and safety; and Caribbean identity. Lower adherence was found for men; nurses with 2-year diplomas; shorter length of employment; communal transportation; and experiencing negative mental health effects from workplace infectious disease exposure. Agencies should prioritize increasing providers' knowledge of FPE, supporting mental well-being, fostering a supportive culture, and ensuring availability of FPE. The influences of gender, ethnicity, and role require further exploration. Objectives: This review examines health care team-focused interventions on managing persistent or recurrent distress behaviors among older adults in long-term residential or inpatient health care settings. Methods: We searched interventions addressing health care worker (HCW) knowledge and skills related to distress behavior management using Ovid MEDLINE, Elsevier Embase, and Ovid PsycINFO from December 2002 through December 2022. Results: We screened 6,582 articles; 29 randomized trials met inclusion criteria. Three studies on patient-facing HCW interactions (e.g. medication management, diagnosing distress) showed mixed results on agitation; one study found no effect on quality of life. Six HCW-focused studies suggested short-term reduction in distress behaviors. Quality-of-life improvement or decreased antipsychotic use was not evidenced. Among 17 interventions combining HCW-focused and patient-facing activities, 0 showed significant distress reduction, 8 showed significant antipsychotic reduction (OR = 0.79, 95%CI [0.69, 0.91]) and 9 showed quality of life improvements (SMD = 0.71, 95%CI [0.39, 1.04]). One study evaluating HCW, patient-, and environmental-focused intervention activities showed short-term improvement in agitation. Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Novel health care models combining HCW training and patient management improve patient quality of life, reduce antipsychotic use, and may reduce distress behaviors. Introduction: Healthcare providers should be well prepared to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and protect their patients and themselves as frontline workers. The aim of this study was to assess oncologists' and health care workers (HCWs) knowledge, attitude, and practice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on them. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among Egyptian oncologists and HCWs in the oncology department at Suez Canal University Hospitals, Egypt. Participants were reached through a Google Form questionnaire. The questionnaire was shared on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp) over four months, from June 1st to September 30, 2022. All physicians and HCWs in the oncology department were invited to participate in the survey. Researchers intended to enroll all physicians and HCWs within the study period. Results: Out of the 110 participants included in the study, there was a female predominance, and the majority were oncology nurses and clinical oncologists. Knowledge with significant participants' characteristics showed that knowledge significantly varied by age. The level of knowledge was significantly higher among participants between 30 and 40 years old (OR = 5.111; 95% CI, 1.202–21.738; P = 0.027). 65.5% of the participants had poor knowledge, with a mean ± SD of 4.9 ± 1.4. About 43.6% of the participants experienced more burnout than before the COVID-19 pandemic, with a negative emotional impact. 63.7% reported a negative financial impact due to the pandemic. 62.7% had support from their family, even though their job increases their risk of infection. 7.3% only reported a positive impact regarding their friend's relationship. Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on oncologists' personal and professional lives. We aimed to investigate the preventive effect of vitamin D2 on COVID-19 and the improvement of symptoms after COVID-19 infection. The study recruited 228 health care workers who tested negative PCR or antigen for COVID-19. Subjects were randomly allocated to vitamin D2 or non-intervention at a ratio 1:1. Subjects recorded PCR or antigen tests and the symptoms of COVID-19 twice a week during the follow-up visit. The concentration of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), C-reaction protein (CRP), complement component C1q and inflammatory cytokines were measured. The rates of COVID-19 infection were 50.5% in the vitamin D2 group and 52.4% in the non-intervention group (P = 0.785). There was no difference in the COVID-19 symptoms between the two groups. The mean 25(OH)D level significantly increased from 14.1 to 31.1 ng/mL after administration (P < 0.001). The difference between the two groups was not significant for the concentrations of CRP, C1q and inflammatory cytokines on the thirtieth day of the trial. According to the second level of vitamin D, there was a 14.3% difference in positive infection rates between the vitamin D adequate (> 30 ng/mL) and deficient groups (< 20 ng/mL). In their daily practice, health care workers (HCWs) experience the effects of tensions between professional ethos and work realities, which can lead to ethical dilemmas. We aim to explore the ethical dilemmas that affected HCWs in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic and to understand these in the context of the German health system. Between April and December 2022, we interviewed HCWs from various levels of care and key informants responsible for decisions related to HCWs in Germany. Three themes were identified in the data analyzed from 78 participants. The first highlighted the potency of pre-existing health system problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second captured the ethical dilemmas that were described as having arisen due to the tension between professional ethos and structural constraints. The third included factors related to increasing or diminishing the implications of ethical dilemmas. A lack of opportunities for HCWs to participate in political and managerial decisions was suggested to result in policies that do not meet the needs of HCWs and patients. Positive interpersonal interactions were described as helpful when coping with dilemmatic decision-making situations. In order to avoid negative consequences caused by unresolved ethical dilemmas, including moral distress, among HCWs, staff shortages and decision-making in the German health system urgently need to be addressed. HCWs' working conditions regularly evoke ethical dilemmas, particularly during public health emergencies. Purpose: To assess the knowledge and confidence level regarding the basic first-aid for treating epistaxis among medical staff, including nurses and physicians across various medical disciplines. The study focused three aspects of first aid management: location of digital pressure, head position and duration of pressure. Methods: The study involved 597 participants, categorized into five groups according to their specialties: emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and community-based healthcare. A paper-based multiple-choice questionnaire assessed knowledge of managing epistaxis. Correct answers were determined from literature review and expert consensus. Results: Most medical staff showed poor knowledge regarding the preferred site for applying digital pressure in epistaxis management. For head position, pediatricians and internal medicine physicians were most accurate (79.4% and 64.8%, respectively, p < 0.01), and nurses from the emergency department outperformed nurses from other disciplines; internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and community-based healthcare (61.1%, 41.5%, 43.5%, 60%, 45.6%, respectively, p < 0.05). While most medical staff were unfamiliar with the recommended duration for applying pressure on the nose, pediatricians and community clinic physicians were most accurate (47.1% and 46.0%, respectively, p < 0.01), while ER physicians were least accurate (14.9%, p < 0.01). Interestingly, a negative correlation was found between years of work experience and reported confidence level in managing epistaxis. Conclusions: Our findings indicate a significant lack of knowledge concerning epistaxis first-aid among medical staff, particularly physicians in emergency departments. The rapid development of medical care innovations and the use of newer technologies have resulted in a significant rise in the quantity of waste produced per patient within health care facilities. Biomedical waste in particular has emerged as a pressing concern due to its inherent propensity to pose health hazards and cause environmental harm. The World Health Organization has identified a lack of knowledge and training as primary factors contributing to the failure of Biomedical waste management (BMWM). Thus, our study sought to examine the relationship between BMWM level of knowledge and prior training among health care professionals (HCPs) in 4 different regions in Saudi Arabia. Our study used a cross-sectional design to investigate the BMWM level of knowledge and prior training among HCPs in 4 different regions in Saudi Arabia. Multiple linear and logistic regression was used to assess if Biomedical waste management (MBWM) knowledge and prior tanning are significantly associated with the demographics and professional characteristics of HCPs. 501 HCPs participated in the study. More than half were male, the majority fell within the age range of 24 to 36 years and held a bachelor's degree. The level of BMWM knowledge among HCPs was moderate (M = 31.14, SD = 4.89) and positively associated with HCPs' prior training in BMWM, workplace environment, and overall experience in the field. Only 26% of the HCPs had received prior BMWM training, and it varied considerably by sex, geographic location, and professional experience. Our study demonstrates a moderate knowledge and lack of training in BMWM among HCPs in Saudi Arabia. Thus, we recommend a national strategy for incorporating infection prevention and control methods associated with BMWM into all health care programs. Abstract Background Rapid timescales for the design and delivery of research were common during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recruitment and retention of healthcare workers (HCWs) as participants in research studies are notoriously challenging, but this was exacerbated during the pandemic by the unprecedented demand placed on the workforce. The SARS-CoV-2 Immunity and Reinfection Evaluation (SIREN study) is a prospective multicentre cohort study following HCWs in the UK. This paper discusses the strategies and challenges associated with recruitment and retention of HCW participants in Scotland. Methods There were 44,546 HCWs recruited to the SIREN study, of whom 6,285 were recruited by research teams at ten different research sites in Scotland between October 2020 and March 2021. Information on target and actual sample size, availability of resource, recruitment rate, and recruitment and engagement strategies by site was collated from SIREN study documentation and discussions with local key SIREN site staff. Individual-level data from 6,153 HCW participants with ongoing consent for all data usage were also collated, including socio-demographic data and information on withdrawal (in first year) and opt-in to a study extension after one year. Factors associated with these outcomes were explored in logistic regression analyses. Results Different recruitment strategies were used in each site according to local agreements, protocol and staff capacity, with the recruitment period ranging from 13 to 160 days. The locally-agreed recruitment target was met in four sites. The proportion of participants who withdrew in the first year ranged from 3.1 to 24.8% by site, while subsequent opt-in to a 12-month study extension ranged from 28.6 to 74.8%. The sites with the highest proportions of withdrawals were the same four sites with lowest proportions of opt-in. On an individual level, there was a lower level of retention among younger participants, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and minority ethnic groups. Conclusions Site-specific factors including research-readiness likely had a significant influence on recruitment and retention, more so than the specific recruitment or retention strategies employed. Independent of site factors, individual-level variables influenced recruitment and retention, suggesting targeted strategies may be needed to promote research engagement among particular socio-demographic groups.

In addition, a regression model was fitted to estimate the contribution of health-care workers’ competence to the success of HIV/AIDS control programs. This quantitative analysis was triangulated with a thematic analysis of key informants’ views.Results: - Findings indicate that health-care workers’ competence bears a positive statistically significant contribution to the success of HIV/AIDS control programs. Employee competence is necessary but not sufficient to foster the full realization of desired results from HIV/AIDS control programs.Conclusion: - Managers of HIV/AIDS control programs need to prioritize and continuously train health-care workers to boost their professional and cultural skills to effectively deliver interventional activities under HIV/AIDS control programs. Abstract Introduction Healthcare providers should be well prepared to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and protect their patients and themselves as frontline workers. The aim of this study was to assess oncologists’ and health care workers (HCWs) knowledge, attitude, and practice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on them. Material and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted among Egyptian oncologists and HCWs in the oncology department at Suez Canal University Hospitals, Egypt. Participants were reached through a Google Form questionnaire. The questionnaire was shared on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp) over four months, from June 1st to September 30, 2022. All physicians and HCWs in the oncology department were invited to participate in the survey. Researchers intended to enroll all physicians and HCWs within the study period. Results Out of the 110 participants included in the study, there was a female predominance, and the majority were oncology nurses and clinical oncologists. Knowledge with significant participants’ characteristics showed that knowledge significantly varied by age. The level of knowledge was significantly higher among participants between 30 and 40 years old (OR = 5.111; 95% CI, 1.202–21.738; P = 0.027). 65.5% of the participants had poor knowledge, with a mean ± SD of 4.9 ± 1.4. About 43.6% of the participants experienced more burnout than before the COVID-19 pandemic, with a negative emotional impact. 63.7% reported a negative financial impact due to the pandemic. 62.7% had support from their family, even though their job increases their risk of infection. 7.3% only reported a positive impact regarding their friend’s relationship. Conclusion COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on oncologists' personal and professional lives. Interventions should be implemented to lessen the negative impact and better prepare oncologists to handle future crises with greater efficiency and resilience.

Abstract We aimed to investigate the preventive effect of vitamin D2 on COVID-19 and the improvement of symptoms after COVID-19 infection. The study recruited 228 health care workers who tested negative PCR or antigen for COVID-19. Subjects were randomly allocated to vitamin D2 or non-intervention at a ratio 1:1. Subjects recorded PCR or antigen tests and the symptoms of COVID-19 twice a week during the follow-up visit. The concentration of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), C-reaction protein (CRP), complement component C1q and inflammatory cytokines were measured. The rates of COVID-19 infection were 50.5% in the vitamin D2 group and 52.4% in the non-intervention group (P = 0.785). There was no difference in the COVID-19 symptoms between the two groups. Introduction: Workplace violence against healthcareworkers in Emergency Departments (EDs) is a global concern. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and types of workplace violence in EDs. Methods: a cross-sectional survey was conducted in three public sector hospital EDs in Gauteng, South Africa. A self-administered, standardised online questionnaire developed by the World Health organization was used to collect data between March and November 2022. A total of 65 healthcareworkers which consisted of nurses (24) and doctors (41) participated in the study. Results: The prevalence of workplace violence was 73.8 % with verbal abuse being the most common type at 66 %. Eighty-two percent of the victims did not report the incident. Poor communication and lack of mutual respect among staff and healthcare users contributed to both physical and non-physical workplace violence. Conclusion: Workplace violence appears to be a common occurrence in EDs in the hospitals surveyed in Gauteng. It is regarded as a typical incident by respondents, and it is underreported. It has a direct negative impact on healthcareworkers and their working environment and indirectly on patients. Urgent attention from all stakeholders is needed to minimize the prevalence of these incidents.

Background Since the emergence of the pandemic, healthcare workers have been subjected to devastating psychological burden at all levels of healthcare. Depression, anxiety, and stress were greatly encountered in the era of the pandemic. Moreover, healthcare workers reported escalating levels of burnout syndrome compared to levels reported in the pre-pandemic era. They are exposed to multiple work-related stressors that have been exhausting to their mental and psychological well-being. The aim of the current study was to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the psychological well-being of healthcare workers.Methods A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted among 471 healthcare workers (245 front-line and 226 second-line healthcare workers) recruited from ten governmental hospitals. Data was collected using self-administered structured questionnaire, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 Items (DASS-21) and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI).Results Symptoms suggestive of depression, anxiety, and stress were reported by 72.6%, 31.4%, and 18.6% of studied healthcare workers, respectively. Front-line healthcare workers had significantly higher mean anxiety and stress scores compared to second-line ones.Burnout syndrome was reported by 86.4% of the study subjects, with statistically significant differences between front-line and second-line healthcare workers. The most commonly adopted organizational interventions against work-related stressors were increased workforce (41.6%), frequent staff meetings (32.3%), shifts rescheduling (31.4%), frequent breaks during the working day (29.1%), and staff training (16.8%). As for individually adopted interventions, following strict protective measures (63.5%), gaining more knowledge about COVID-19 (54.1%), avoiding media news (44.8%), and relaxation activities such as prayers, music, and meditation (37.2%) were the most commonly adopted interventions.

Abstract Background Misinformation (infodemics) can hinder effective healthcare delivery. This study assessed Iranian healthcare workers’ (HCWs) knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding infodemic management (IM). Method A cross-sectional survey using a self-reported questionnaire (KAPIM) distributed via convenience sampling to 1890 HCWs across all Iranian Medical Sciences Universities. Results The results showed that healthcare workers demonstrated overall KAP scores with a mean of 3.38 out of 5. Knowledge scores were 63.01%, attitude scores were 74.23%, and practice scores were lower at 55.76%. There were positive correlations between age and work experience with both knowledge and attitude scores. Conclusion These findings suggest a gap between HCWs’ knowledge/attitude and practice regarding IM. Targeted interventions emphasizing practical skills are needed. Considering demographics and regional variations is crucial when developing training programs for enhanced infodemic preparedness across the Iranian healthcare system.

Abstract Background Having knowledge of the dental procedures that necessitate endocarditis prophylaxis is of high importance. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the knowledge level and attitudes of general medical and dental practitioners, dental specialists, and cardiologists in Tehran and Hamadan about endocarditis. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out on 420 general medical and dental practitioners, dental specialists, and cardiologists in Tehran and Hamadan provinces in 2015. The questionnaire used in this research consisted of three parts as follows: part one: information on cardiac diseases; part two: dental procedures requiring endocarditis prophylaxis; part three: antibiotic diet in endocarditis prophylaxis. Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and chi-square tests were conducted to analyze the data. All the analyses were performed in SPSS version 16. Results The results showed that 86.7 had a relatively favorable and 10.5% of subjects had a favorable level of knowledge about endocarditis. Background:COVID-19 is an extremely infectious disease. Health care workers (HCWs) are exposed to high occupational risk because of Coronavirus. Objectives:To study the prevalence and risk factors of exposure to COVID-19 among HCWs. Materials and Methods:The study design was cross-sectional and consisted of 527 participants of HCWs, Data was collected through direct interviews by using simple Random Sampling) technique, the questionnaire format was built exclusively by the researchers for this purpose and consisted of four axes which included socio-demographic variables, COVID-19 prevalence, vaccination status, and risk factors. Furthermore; Laboratory examinations were used in this study to detect newly infected cases of HCWs, we screened HCWs for SARS-CoV-2 via RT-PCR. The study period started from October 2, 2022 until May 30, 2023. This study was conducted at Babylon Health Directorate, Babylon governorate. Results:The findings indicate that a majority of HCWs participating in this study were in the age group 26–30 years 146 (27.7%), and predominantly females 302 (57.3%), 344 (65.3%) were residents in urban regions, with 228 (43.3%) holding technical diploma degree and nursing professionals makeup 201 (38.1%) of occupational titles, and most of them were working in emergency units 107 (20.3%). The results registered 352 (66.8%) of HCWs were infected previously with COVID-19, and 64 (12.1%) new infected cases diagnosed by RT-PCR, largely among paramedical staff 40 (20.3%), and a highly recorded at Al-Hashimiyah health sector 26 (11.9%). Data analysis reveals that a significant association between infection and some risk variables regards participants who visited epidemiological units, and those who visited physician clinics during the pandemic. Results suggest a significant association between not being vaccinated and COVID-19 infection. Additionally, the participants with chronic diseases were more likely to be infected compared to those without chronic diseases (P < 0.001). Conclusions:The study concluded that COVID-19 was prevalent among HCWs and significantly associated with some health and occupational risk factors.

Background: Health care workers (HCWs) experience abounding physical and mental exhaustion mandating a deliverable solution for their mental health care. Kriya yoga (KY) includes several relaxation techniques and offers a stress-alleviating experience. The objective signature of KY benefits needs to be investigated. Aim: To study the effects of KY practice on brain oscillations and perceived stress in health care providers. Methods: This prospective interventional study was conducted during coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. HCWs were enrolled to the intervention group (IG) and control group (CG) after obtaining an informed consent. IG visited the yoga center for learning the KY technique. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded in both the groups, at baseline, and at the end of 6 weeks in the EEG Laboratory. Perceived stress scale (PSS) scores and participants’ subjective response to KY practice were also collected. Paired t-test and independent t-test were used for statistical comparison wherever applicable. Results: Age and baseline EEG powers among the IG and CG (N = 25) were statistically comparable. Absolute power analysis revealed a statistically significant increase in alpha and delta powers after 6 weeks of KY practice. The PSS scores revealed a statistically significant decrease in perceived stress after KY practice. Furthermore, 83% of the participants reported the subjective calming effects of KY practice. Conclusion: KY practice ensues relaxing effects on the brain, as evident from the EEG absolute power analysis, PSS scores, and participants’ subjective response. As KY is a brief technique, it may be encouraged during short break session among the HCWs for promotive health.

Abstract Background Healthcare workers are at risk of occupational exposure to blood and other body fluids after sustaining needlestick injury which constitutes a risk for transmission of blood-borne pathogens such as Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C virus or Human Immune-deficiency Virus. Objectives To assess the prevalence, response, and associated factors of needlestick injury by medical sharps among healthcare workers in Orotta National Referral Hospital, Asmara, Eritrea. Methods Cross sectional study was conducted between September and December 2017 among healthcare workers. This was a census study whereby a total of 383 healthcare workers who had contact with sharp medical equipment were taken as study population. An aided self-administered questionnaire, checklist and key informant interviews were used as data collection tools. Analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 22. Bivariate and binary logistic regression analyses were carried out and the level of significance was set at P 40 years (AOR = .314, p = .05), marital status (married (AOR = 0.595, p = .05)), additional duty that made healthcare workers rush during working hours (AOR = 2.134, p = .002) and back bone problem (AOR = 2.239, p = .002). Conclusion The overall finding of the study indicated that there was a great risk of contracting blood-borne infections among the healthcare workers especially midwives. Therefore, there is need for adequate supply of safety engineered devices, Hepatitis B vaccine, better reporting, and surveillance of needlestick injury cases at the hospital. Moreover, further research on assessment of the knowledge, attitude, and practice of healthcare workers toward occupational safety and health, particularly needlestick injury, is necessary.

Abstract Background This study aims to explore the experiences of Behvarzes regarding the reasons behind the insufficient participation of some individuals with the preventive protocols established during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A qualitative study was conducted from July 2021 to December 2022 using the conventional content analysis method. Purposive sampling was employed to select 14 Behvarzes working in villages covered by Kashan University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth individual interviews and analyzed using conventional content analysis. Results The study identified seven subcategories which were grouped into two main categories of reasons for inadequate compliance with health protocols by some individuals. These include: (1) Intentional non-compliance with preventive protocols, with the following subcategories: perceived obligation and adherence to social customs, denial of risk, belief in external health locus of control, and fear and distrust of prevention and treatment methods. (2) Unintentional non-compliance with preventive protocols, with the following subcategories: insufficient or contradictory information, negligence, and inevitability. Conclusion The findings suggest that ensuring compliance with health guidelines is not a one-size-fits-all approach. providing empowerment and obstacle removal solutions to those forced to violate preventive protocols for various reasons are all critical components of successful interventions. Also, cultural familiarity can aid in the design of appropriate interventions to address these challenges.

Abstract Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate fatigue, mental workload, and burnout among health care workers (HCWs) and explore the possible underlying factors. Materials and methods An online cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from HCWs in Chongqing, China. The online survey included the Fatigue Severity Scale, NASA Task Load Index, and Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey to assess fatigue, mental workload, and burnout, respectively, and was conducted from February 1 to March 1, 2023. Results In this study, the incidence of fatigue and burnout among HCWs was 76.40% and 89.14%, respectively, and the incidence of moderate to intolerable mental workloads was 90.26%. Work–family conflict, current symptoms, number of days of COVID-19 positivity, mental workload, burnout and reduced personal accomplishment were significantly associated with fatigue. Mental workload was affected by fatigue and reduced personal accomplishment. Furthermore, burnout was influenced by marital status and fatigue. Moreover, there was a correlation among mental workload, fatigue, and burnout. Conclusions Fatigue, mental workload and burnout had a high incidence and were influenced by multiple factors during COVID-19 public emergencies in China.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant surge in glove usage, as recommended by the World Health Organization. Despite efforts to ensure the quality and safety of gloves, glove-associated skin diseases such as hand dermatitis have become ubiquitous, particularly among health care workers. This review discusses the prevalence, causes, and risk factors of hand dermatitis, as well as research efforts in medical gloves in the past decade to overcome glove-related hand dermatitis. Research papers from 2013 to 2022 were reviewed, selecting only 49 relevant papers from the Ovid, PubMed, and Scopus databases. The average prevalence of hand dermatitis among health care workers increased from 21.08% to 37.24% upon the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cases are likely due to allergies to latex proteins, rubber additives, and accelerators commonly found in gloves. Using alternatives to latex gloves, such as accelerator-free and latex-free glove options, can help reduce allergy-induced hand dermatitis. Strict hand hygiene practices, such as frequent hand washing and the use of sanitizers, are also contributing factors in contracting hand dermatitis. Over the past decade, glove research advancements have focused mainly on reducing or immobilizing latex proteins. These include the use of biodegradable dialdehyde, sodium alginate, arctigenin, bromelain, papain, UV-LED, prototype photoreactors, and structure-modified nanosilica with silane A174. Two effective hand dermatitis preventive measures, i.e. an additional layer of glove liners and the use of gentle alcohol-based hand sanitizer, were recommended. These advancements represent promising steps towards mitigating hand dermatitis risks associated with glove usage.

Health care workers are at increased risk for mental health issues due to high psychological and physical job demands. According to a recent study, stress beliefs (i.e., believing stress to be detrimental to one's health) might influence physicians' mental health in response to a naturalistic stressor (COVID‐19 hospital working conditions). Due to a small sample size and high alpha error inflation, the suggested association needs to be interpreted with caution. The current study aims to replicate those findings in a larger sample. A cross‐sectional survey among N = 418 (64.1% female; Median age = 30–39 years) physicians and nurses of a large German medical centre was conducted during the COVID‐19 pandemic (May/June 2021). Perception of pandemic related increase of work stress was assessed via self‐report. Stress beliefs were assessed with the Beliefs About Stress Scale, and mental health symptoms were assessed with the 21‐item Depression Anxiety Stress Scale. Stress beliefs moderated the association between increased work stress and mental health symptoms. Increased work stress was associated with increased depressive, anxiety and distress symptoms only in health care workers with medium (simple slope = 2.22, p <.001; simple slope = 1.27, p <.001; simple slope = 3.19, p <.001) and high (simple slope = 3.13; p <.001; simple slope = 1.66, p <.05; simple slope = 4.33, p <.001) negative stress beliefs. Among health care workers with low negative stress beliefs increased work stress was not associated with increased depressive, anxiety and distress symptoms. Facial protective equipment (FPE) adherence is necessary for the health and safety of nursing professionals. This review was conducted to synthesize predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors that influence FPE adherence, and thus inform efforts to promote adherence. Articles were collected using Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and MEDLINE and screened for inclusion. Included articles were original studies focused on FPE adherence by nurses to prevent respiratory infection which contained occupation-specific data from at least 10 individuals and were published in English between January 2005 and February 2022. Thirty articles were included, 21 of which reported adherence rates. Adherence ranged from 33% to 100% for respiratory protection and 22% to 100% for eye protection. Predisposing demographic factors influencing adherence included tenure and occupation, while modifiable predisposing factors included knowledge and perception of FPE, infection transmission, and risk. Enabling factors included geography, care settings, and FPE availability. Reinforcing factors included organizational support for health and safety, clear policies, and training. The identified demographic factors suggest populations that may benefit from targeted interventions, while modifiable factors suggest opportunities to enhance education as well as operational processes and supports. A Provincial PPE Safety Coach Program was introduced to support appropriate use of personal protective equipment by health care workers. The objective was to understand barriers and facilitators to implementation. A qualitative study was conducted mid-2021. Participants were recruited using a purposive sampling strategy. Interviews were conducted using a guide informed by the Theoretical Domains Framework and Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Analysis was conducted using the Theoretical Domains Framework. Prominent domains identified by staff were "social influences and skills", "environmental context and resources", "social/professional role and identity", "emotion", and "belief of consequences". Prominent domains identified by safety coaches were "knowledge", "social/professional role and identity", "environmental context and resources", and "memory". Only "environmental context and resources" and "social/professional role and identity" were similar. The main facilitators were fear of COVID-19 and leadership commitment, while the main barriers were lack of clarity and balancing the role. Understanding the local context of a health care environment influenced the success of safety coaches. The role allowed individuals to develop leadership skills and help staff improve their perceived competence in using personal protective equipment. Safety coaches were well received. Influencing factors provide a basis for strategies to embed this approach throughout a health care system. • Our study found that safety coaches were well received by HCWs. • HCWs identified safety coaches as a support system that improved their PPE use. • Main barriers were a lack of clarity around the role and balancing this role with other tasks. • Main facilitators were fear of COVID-19 and leadership commitment. • Studies should consider behavior change theories to understand IPAC practices. Healthcare workers (HCWs) are a high-risk group for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Notably, about 5–10% of the general population does not respond to the HBV vaccination. In this study, we aimed to investigate DNA methylation (DNAm) in order to estimate the biological age of B cells from HCW of both sexes, either responder (R) or non-responder (NR), to HBV vaccination. We used genome-wide DNA methylation data to calculate a set of biomarkers in B cells collected from 41 Rs and 30 NRs between 22 and 62 years old. Unresponsiveness to HBV vaccination was associated with accelerated epigenetic aging (DNAmAge, AltumAge, DunedinPoAm) and was accompanied by epigenetic drift. Female non-responders had higher estimates of telomere length and lower CRP inflammation risk score when compared to responders. Overall, epigenetic differences between responders and non-responders were more evident in females than males. In this study we demonstrated that several methylation DNAm-based clocks and biomarkers are associated with an increased risk of non-response to HBV vaccination, particularly in females. Based on these results, we propose that accelerated epigenetic age could contribute to vaccine unresponsiveness. BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers (HCWs) have been significantly impacted by the pandemic. Elderly health care workers carry out a variety of duties at work and have years of clinical expertise. Anxiety and insomnia are among the more commonly encountered problems in senior physicians and other geriatric medical professional populations. OBJECTIVE: The study aims to determine the effect of vagal nerve stimulation on anxiety and sleep disturbances among geriatric medical professionals. METHODS: 42 participants were enrolled in this study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The participants were divided into two groups using the closed envelope approach, and they took part in therapy sessions lasting 30 minutes, three times per week for a period of four weeks. The Experimental group A received non-invasive transcutaneous auricular vagal nerve stimulation (taVNS) and Control group A received Jacobson's progressive muscle relaxation technique. RESULTS: With a p value of 0.001, taVNS stimulation significantly improved sleep quality and reduced anxiety after 4 weeks. The post-intervention assessment revealed a highly significant improvement in Group A, with a T value of 251 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that taVNS may be an effective intervention for addressing anxiety and sleep issues in geriatric medical professionals. Health care workers play an essential role in maintaining the public trust in vaccination programmes globally, and more specifically, in low- and middle-income countries. This role is particularly important in building trust in the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. While there are many factors that affect HPV vaccine acceptance, health care workers are one of the most critical influences in the decision-making process among parents as well as adolescent girls. In this paper, we sought to better understand how health care workers in a diverse set of countries communicate and promote HPV vaccines. We summarize communication approaches and lessons learned by health care workers in Kenya, India, and Nigeria through a case study approach. In Kenya, the utilization of a multisectoral approach proved to be very important. In India, intense social mobilization with targeted messaging by target audience laid the groundwork for community acceptance. An evolving communication strategy was essential in Nigeria, where there is no national HPV vaccination programme. Given the increase in vaccine hesitancy globally, the lessons learned through these three country examples highlight the importance of communication efforts in increasing vaccine acceptance. Background: This study aims to explore the experiences of Behvarzes regarding the reasons behind the insufficient participation of some individuals with the preventive protocols established during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted from July 2021 to December 2022 using the conventional content analysis method. Purposive sampling was employed to select 14 Behvarzes working in villages covered by Kashan University of Medical Sciences. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth individual interviews and analyzed using conventional content analysis. Results: The study identified seven subcategories which were grouped into two main categories of reasons for inadequate compliance with health protocols by some individuals. These include: (1) Intentional non-compliance with preventive protocols, with the following subcategories: perceived obligation and adherence to social customs, denial of risk, belief in external health locus of control, and fear and distrust of prevention and treatment methods. (2) Unintentional non-compliance with preventive protocols, with the following subcategories: insufficient or contradictory information, negligence, and inevitability. Conclusion: The findings suggest that ensuring compliance with health guidelines is not a one-size-fits-all approach. providing empowerment and obstacle removal solutions to those forced to violate preventive protocols for various reasons are all critical components of successful interventions. Background: Owing to the highly contagious nature of SARS-CoV-2, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among the healthcare workers (HCWs) is mandatory. However, PPE associated adverse effects are also there. Objective: To study the adverse effects associated with PPE and their preventive measures amongst the HCWs. Material and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among 200 HCWs working in a Covid center of a tertiary care center. The participants were sent the questionnaires online. Some of them not having smart phones were interviewed telephonically. Their information profile, the various adverse effects associated with PPE, and the preventive measures being practiced by them were noted. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Total 97% HCWs reported adverse effects with hazmat suit; 96% with N 95 mask; 92% with goggle and 78% with gloves. The adverse effects associated with the prolonged use of the mask were erythema; erosions and scar at the nasal bridge; ear pain; difficulty in breathing; and headache. Sixty-seven percent of the participants had sweating with the use of gloves, which led to cutaneous exfoliation such as dry hands (55%) and skin itching (43%). Moisturizers and natural oils were used to prevent the dryness of hands. For the pressure related injury over the nasal bridge due to N95 mask, participants used to apply Band-Aid (adhesive bandage) and cotton dressing. Conclusion: Adverse skin reactions related to PPE are common among HCWs. Comprehensive assessment of the skin condition and awareness on adverse skin reactions should be advocated. Background: Health care workers (HCWs) experience abounding physical and mental exhaustion mandating a deliverable solution for their mental health care. Kriya yoga (KY) includes several relaxation techniques and offers a stress-alleviating experience. The objective signature of KY benefits needs to be investigated. Aim: To study the effects of KY practice on brain oscillations and perceived stress in health care providers. Methods: This prospective interventional study was conducted during coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. HCWs were enrolled to the intervention group (IG) and control group (CG) after obtaining an informed consent. IG visited the yoga center for learning the KY technique. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded in both the groups, at baseline, and at the end of 6 weeks in the EEG Laboratory. Perceived stress scale (PSS) scores and participants' subjective response to KY practice were also collected. Paired t-test and independent t-test were used for statistical comparison wherever applicable. Results: Age and baseline EEG powers among the IG and CG (N = 25) were statistically comparable. Absolute power analysis revealed a statistically significant increase in alpha and delta powers after 6 weeks of KY practice. The PSS scores revealed a statistically significant decrease in perceived stress after KY practice. Furthermore, 83% of the participants reported the subjective calming effects of KY practice. Conclusion: KY practice ensues relaxing effects on the brain, as evident from the EEG absolute power analysis, PSS scores, and participants' subjective response. Background: Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) pose serious challenges to safe and high-quality healthcare delivery. They are associated with prolonged hospital stays, disability, economic burden, and mortality, and are usually consequences of poor infection prevention and control practices. The objective of this study was to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare workers on infection prevention, and the determining factors at the National Hospital Abuja, Nigeria. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of 300 participants selected by multi-stage and systematic random sampling techniques at the National Hospital Abuja. Data on knowledge of HAIs, attitude toward HAI prevention, and practice of HAI prevention were collected from each participant using self-administered structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science, version 25.0. Chi-square test was used to determine the association between categorical variables, and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. Results: Of the 300 questionnaires administered, 286 were duly filled and returned, resulting in a response rate of 95.3%. One hundred and three (53.0%) respondents were within the age group 31-40 years, over half of the respondents were females (58.7%) and 57.0% had work experience of less than 5 years. Based on the cut-off scores of 15.7, 32.2 and 8.5 that characterized respondents’ knowledge, attitude and practice of infection prevention respectively as good or poor, 50.4% of the respondents had good knowledge of HAIs, 71.0% had good attitude towards HAIs prevention and 55.5% had good infection prevention practices. However, good knowledge of HAIs was significantly associated with poor infection prevention practices (p=0.002). Female gender (p=0.029), work experience of less than 5 years (p=0.036), laboratory scientist profession (p=0.010), and no previous training on HAIs (p=0.005) were factors significantly associated with good infection prevention practices among the respondents. Conclusion: In this study, good knowledge of HAIs, and infection prevention practices among the respondents were average, although good attitude towards HAIs prevention was high. These findings highlight the need to continue intensive and in-service trainings of healthcare workers toward HAIs prevention, including behavioral change, using innovative approaches. Background: Proactive behaviors at work refer to discretionary actions among workers that are self-starting, change oriented, and future focused. Proactive behaviors reflect the idiosyncratic actions by individual workers that shape the delivery and experience of professional services, highlight a bottom-up perspective on workers' agency and motivation that can influence organizational practices, and are associated with a variety of employee and organizational outcomes. Purpose: This systematic review aims to understand the various forms of proactive behaviors in health care workers that have been studied, and how these proactive behaviors are associated with employee-level outcomes and quality of care. Methods: Systematic review of articles published to date on proactive behaviors in health care workers. Results: Based on the identification of 40 articles, we find that job crafting, active problem solving, voice, extra-role behaviors, and idiosyncratic deals have been investigated as proactive behaviors among health care workers. Among these, job crafting is the most commonly studied (35% of articles), and it has been conceptualized and measured in the most consistent way, including as individual- and group-level phenomena, and as organizational interventions. Studies on active problem solving, which refers to workers accepting responsibility, exercising control, and taking action around anticipated or experienced problems at work, have not been consistently investigated as a form of proactive behavior but represent 25% of the articles identified in this review. Overall, this review finds that proactive behaviors in health care is a burgeoning area of research, with the majority of studies being cross-sectional in design and published after 2010, and focused on workers' job satisfaction as the outcome. Practice Implications: Health care workers and managers should consider the distinct influences and contributions of proactive behaviors as ways to improve employee-level outcomes and quality of care. Introduction: Currently there is no recommendation for testing post vaccination COVID antibody levels, however with repeated COVID waves it is important to evaluate post vaccination COVID antibody levels specifically among Health Care Workers. Methods: This was an interventional study which was done with an objective of obtaining clinical history of COVID infection and vaccination status of the Health Care Worker (HCW) of the institute and to evaluate COVID 19 antibody levels by performing ELISA test. After taking consent, blood collection was done from 1399 health employees of The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute. These samples were tested for post vaccination COVID antibody levels. The decrease in mean antibody levels among the partially and fully vaccinated groups was found to be significant by ANOVA at p value 0.05. Individuals with previous COVID infection history had better post COVID antibody levels after 6 months of last COVID dose and this was statistically significant by unpaired t test. Conclusion: In this study we concluded that post vaccination COVID antibody level decreases consistently with time and number of COVID vaccine doses have no differences over long standing COVID antibody levels. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate fatigue, mental workload, and burnout among health care workers (HCWs) and explore the possible underlying factors. Materials and methods: An online cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from HCWs in Chongqing, China. The online survey included the Fatigue Severity Scale, NASA Task Load Index, and Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey to assess fatigue, mental workload, and burnout, respectively, and was conducted from February 1 to March 1, 2023. Results: In this study, the incidence of fatigue and burnout among HCWs was 76.40% and 89.14%, respectively, and the incidence of moderate to intolerable mental workloads was 90.26%. Work–family conflict, current symptoms, number of days of COVID-19 positivity, mental workload, burnout and reduced personal accomplishment were significantly associated with fatigue. Mental workload was affected by fatigue and reduced personal accomplishment. Furthermore, burnout was influenced by marital status and fatigue. Moreover, there was a correlation among mental workload, fatigue, and burnout. Conclusions: Fatigue, mental workload and burnout had a high incidence and were influenced by multiple factors during COVID-19 public emergencies in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
