However, the combinatorial effect of emotion and empathy on the processing of conflicts is not known.Materials and methods: A total of 44 undergraduate students (23 in low-empathy group and 21 in high-empathy group) were enrolled in this study. They were subjected to positive, negative, and neutral emotion evoking, as well as conflicting or nonconflicting proposals. Event-related potential technology was used to study the combinatorial effects of empathy and emotion on the processing of conflict of interest.Results: We found that under the influence of a positive emotion, both low- and high-empathy groups exhibited lower rejection rates. In the context of conflict, individuals in the high-empathy group showed fewer refusals under positive emotion. In the low-empathy group, there was no significant difference between responses to different emotions, but conflicting proposals induced more negative medial frontal negativity than nonconflicting proposals. Individuals in the low-empathy group showed different late positive potentials when responding to different types of proposals under both neutral and negative emotions, whereas those in the high-empathy group only showed different late positive potentials responding to different types of proposals under negative emotion.Conclusion: Our results indicate that under positive emotion, individuals with low empathy show less difference in processing either conflicting or nonconflicting proposals, whereas under negative emotion, individuals with high empathy show enhanced motivation toward nonconflicting proposals. The use of nontargeted antidepressants induced many side effects with their low efficacy. A more precise targeting strategy is to develop nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems; hence, we employed solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) to encapsulate HU-211 and curcumin (Cur). The antidepressant effects of the dual-drug nanoparticles (Cur/SLNs-HU-211) for major depression treatment were investigated in corticosterone-induced cellular and animal models of major depression. Cur/SLNs-HU-211 can effectively protect PC12 cells from corticosterone-induced apoptosis and can release more dopamine, which may be associated with the higher uptake of Cur/SLNs-HU-211 shown by cellular uptake behavior analysis. Additionally, Cur/SLNs-HU-211 significantly reduced the immobility time in forced swim test, enhanced fall latency in rotarod test, and improved the level of dopamine in mice blood. Cur/SLNs-HU-211 can deliver more Cur to the brain and thus produce a significant increase in neurotransmitters level in brain tissue, especially in the hippocampus and striatum. The results of Western blot and immunofluorescence revealed that Cur/SLNs-HU-211 can significantly enhance the expression of CB1, p-MEK1, and p-ERK1/2. Numerical simulation of flow-field has become an indispensable tool for aerodynamic design. Usually, wall surface integration is a tool used to calculate values of pressure drag and skin friction drag, but the aerodynamic mechanism of drag production is still confusing. In present work, in order to decompose the total drag into viscous drag, wave drag, induced drag, and spurious drag, a far-field drag decomposition (FDD) method is developed. This method depends on axial velocity defect and area sensor functions. The present work proposes three hybrid formulas for velocity defect to tackle the negative square root issue by analyzing the existing axial velocity defect formulas. For dealing with the issue of detection failure for near-wall cells, a novel vorticity based viscous area sensor function is proposed. The new area sensor function is also independent of the turbulence model, which ensures easy application to general simulation methods for flow-field. Three tests cases are there to validate the proposed FDD method. The three dimensional transonic CRM test case shows that the present improvement is crucial for accurate drag decomposition. Excellent agreement between total decomposed drags and results from the near-field method or experimental data further confirms the correctness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The high-frequency corrosion fatigue behavior of extruded AZ31 magnesium alloy was investigated in different environments: air, gear oil and 3.5% NaCl solution. Compared with that in air, the corrosion fatigue limits were degraded by approximately 3.52% and 58.91%, respectively, and the corrosion fatigue lives were shortened by about 13.43% and 89.36%, respectively. In the same environment, the high-frequency fatigue limits are all higher than those tested at low frequency. The specimen geometrical shape plays a certain factor on stage characteristics of S–N curves. Compared with that of arc transition specimens, the stress sensitivity of line transition specimens is only reflected in a relatively high cycle fatigue life region. Different environments influence the corrosion failure kinetics processes (the crack initiation mechanism), but do not change the fatigue fracture mechanism of the alloy, and the higher loading frequency only accelerate the crack nucleation processes. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the HbA(1c) proportion and mortality rate across diabetic patients with severe hypoglycemia and the risk factors for death. METHODS: All the diabetic patients with severe hypoglycemia were divided into HbA(1c)<6.5% group and HbA(1c)>=6.5% group. The proportion of HbA(1c), mortality rate and the risk factors for death were analyzed. Common causes for severe hypoglycemia were also analyzed. RESULTS: The percentages of HbA(1c) in the HbA(1c)<6.5% and HbA(1c)>=6.5% groups were 51.2% and 48.8%, respectively. The mortality rates were not significantly different between the 2 groups (5.3% vs. 5.1%, [chi](2)=0.01, p=0.17). Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that in both groups, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, and uric acid levels were the risk factors for death. In the HbA(1c)<6.5% and HbA(1c)>=6.5% groups, 65.0% and 64.2% showed common causes of severe hypoglycemia, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: With respect to severe hypoglycemia, equal attention should be paid to patients with an HbA(1c) level of >=6.5% and those with an HbA(1c) level of <6.5%. The mortality rate is approximately 5% in severe hypoglycemia no matter how the HbA(1c) level is. Creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, and uric acid are the main risk factors in both groups. Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1), a structure-specific nuclease, has been reported to be widely involved in the development of cancer, and recognized as a new biomarker for cancer. However, there remains a deficiency in the availability of simple, rapid and reliable biosensors for its detection. We have constructed a cascade signal amplification fluorescence biosensor for ultra-sensitive and rapid detection of FEN1. This biosensor relied on FEN1-induced production of the 5' flap DNA, and combined rolling circle amplification (RCA) and CRISPR/Cas12a one-pot system (RCOS). By utilizing branched dsDNA substrates to provoke FEN1 activity, the 5' flap DNA was cleaved and isolated through magnetic separation. Subsequently, these DNA fragments initiated the RCA and CRISPR/Cas12a one-pot exponential amplification reaction, activating the cis and trans-cleavage activity of Cas12a and resulting in a significant fluorescence signal for readout. By combining RCA and CRISPR/Cas12a one-pot cascade signal amplification, the detection signal was remarkable enhanced. The RCOS exhibited excellent sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) of 4.1 × 10 -7 U/μL, which was more sensitive and expeditious than many other approaches. Furthermore, the biosensor successfully facilitated accurate determination of FEN1 in cell extracts and plasma samples, revealing the potential clinical application and providing a dependable and rapid approach for FEN1 inhibitor screening. It is still a great challenge to achieve high selectivity of ethanol in CO 2 electroreduction reactions (CO 2 RR) because of the similar reduction potentials and lower energy barrier of possible other C 2+ products. Here, we report a MOF-based supported low-nuclearity cluster catalysts (LNCCs), synthesized by electrochemical reduction of three-dimensional (3D) microporous Cu-based MOF, that achieves a single-product Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 82.5 % at -1.0 V (versus the reversible hydrogen electrode) corresponding to the effective current density is 8.66 mA cm -2 . By investigating the relationship between the species of reduction products and the types of catalytic sites, it is confirmed that the multi-site synergism of Cu LNCCs can increase the C-C coupling effect, and thus achieve high FE of CO 2 -to-ethanol. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) calculation and operando attenuated total reflectance surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy further confirmed the reaction path and mechanism of CO 2 -to-EtOH., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Human tissue-resident memory T (T RM ) cells play a crucial role in protecting the body from infections and cancers. Recent research observed increased numbers of T RM cells in the lung tissues of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients. However, the functional consequences of T RM cells in pulmonary fibrosis remain unclear. Here, we found that the numbers of T RM cells, especially the CD8 + subset, were increased in the mouse lung with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Increasing or decreasing CD8 + T RM cells in mouse lungs accordingly altered the severity of fibrosis. In addition, the adoptive transfer of CD8 + T cells containing a large number of CD8 + T RM cells from fibrotic lungs was sufficient to induce pulmonary fibrosis in control mice. Treatment with chemokine CC-motif ligand (CCL18) induced CD8 + T RM cell expansion and exacerbated fibrosis, whereas blocking C-C chemokine receptor 8 (CCR8) prevented CD8 + T RM recruitment and inhibited pulmonary fibrosis. In conclusion, CD8 + T RM cells are essential for bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis, and targeting CCL18/CCR8/CD8 + T RM cells may be a potential therapeutic approach. NEW & NOTEWORTHY The role of CD8 + T RM cells in the development of pulmonary fibrosis was validated and studied in the classic model of pulmonary fibrosis. It was proposed for the first time that CCL18 has a chemotactic effect on CD8 + T RM cells, thereby exacerbating pulmonary fibrosis.

The application of proximal gastrectomy for suitable upper gastric cancer and AEG patients is increasing along with the promotion of the concept and technology for function-preserving partial gastrectomy. The following problems such as postoperative reflux esophagitis and anastomotic stenosis naturally become the focus of academic field. Based on the understanding of the anti-reflux structure and function of the esophagogastric junction, scholars have successfully established some representative esophagogastric anastomosis methods with additional mechanical anti-reflux barrier, including gastric tube reconstruction, side overlap esophagogastrostomy, and double flap technique. Subsequently, a series of improved esophagogastric reconstruction methods have been derived. At present, the recognized ideal reconstruction method has not yet been established, and there are also misunderstandings in related concepts and cognition. Based on the literatures and the authors' own practical experience, this paper draws on the research results in the field of surgical treatment for reflux esophagitis, and discusses the theoretical basis, key details and anti-reflux effect of the above-mentioned digestive tract reconstruction methods after proximal gastrectomy, as well as the possible problems in the exploration of innovative surgical methods at home and abroad.

Heat stress (HS) has become a common stressor, owing to the increasing frequency of extreme high-temperature weather triggered by global warming, which has seriously affected the reproductive capacity of important livestock such as sheep. However, little is known about whether HS reduces sperm motility by inducing circadian rhythm disorders in rumen microorganisms and metabolites in sheep. In this study, the year-round reproduction of two-year-old Hu rams was selected, and the samples were collected in May and July 2022 at average environmental temperatures between 18.71 °C and 33.58 °C, respectively. The experiment revealed that the mean temperature-humidity index was 86.34 in July, indicating that Hu rams suffered from HS. Our research revealed that HS significantly decreased sperm motility in Hu rams. Microbiome analysis further revealed that HS reshaped the composition and circadian rhythm of rumen microorganisms, leading to the circadian disruption of microorganisms that drive cortisol and testosterone synthesis. Serum indicators further confirmed that HS significantly increased the concentrations of cortisol during the daytime and decreased the testosterone concentration at the highest body temperature. Untargeted metabolomics analysis revealed that the circadian rhythm of rumen fluid metabolites in the HS group was enriched by the cortisol and steroid synthesis pathways. Moreover, HS downregulated metabolites, such as kaempferol and L-tryptophan in rumen fluid and seminal plasma, which are associated with promotion of spermatogenesis and sperm motility; furthermore, these metabolites were found to be strongly positively correlated with Veillonellaceae&#95;UCG&#95;001 . Overall, this study revealed the relationship between the HS-induced circadian rhythm disruption of rumen microorganisms and metabolites and sperm motility decline. Our findings provide a new perspective for further interventions in enhancing sheep sperm motility with regard to the circadian time scale.

Objective: The purpose was to investigate the risk factors for delayed upper gastrointestinal transit (DUGT) in small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) and to improve the efficacy of SBCE., Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent SBCE in Renji hospital between January 2015 and January 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Data collection included patient demographics and potential risk factors for DUGT such as indications for the examination, underlying diseases, hospitalization status, anemia, inflammation. Risk factors were analyzed using univariable and multivariable logistic regression models. DUGT was defined as failure of a capsule to pass through the pylorus within 1 h., Results: A total of 1459 patients who underwent SBCE were included in the study. 306 Cases (21%) experienced DUGT and all received conservative observation, medication treatment, endoscopic intervention, and other measures based on specific circumstances. The overall completion rate (CR) of the examination was 95.5% (1394/1459). Logistic regression analysis showed that hospitalization status ( p  = 0.030), diarrhea ( p  = 0.017), diabetes ( p  = 0.027) and cerebrovascular disease ( p  = 0.038) were significant risk factors for DUGT., Conclusions: In our study, DUGT of SBCE was associated with hospitalization status, diarrhea, diabetes and cerebrovascular disease. Therefore, for the patients with the above risk factors, we should closely check the capsule status during the examination process, in order to take appropriate intervention measures as soon as possible.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder associated with reproductive dysfunction and metabolic abnormalities, particularly characterized by insulin resistance and chronic low-grade inflammation. Multiple clinical studies have clearly demonstrated the significant efficacy and safety of the combination of Bailing capsules (BL) in the treatment of PCOS, but its pharmacological effects and mechanisms still require further study., Aim of the Study: To evaluate the effect of BL on improving PCOS in mice and explore the mechanism., Methods: In this study, Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) injection was administered alone and in combination with a high-fat and high-sugar diet to induce PCOS-like mouse. They were randomly divided into five groups: normal group (N), PCOS group (P), Bailing capsule low-dose group (BL-L), Bailing capsule high-dose group (BL-H) and Metformin + Daine-35 group (M + D). Firstly, the effects of BL on ovarian lesions, serum hormone levels, HOMA-IR, intestinal barrier function, inflammation levels, along with the expression of IRS1, PI3K, AKT, TLR4, Myd88, NF-κB p65, TNF-α, IL-6, and Occludin of the ovary, liver and colon were investigated. Finally, the composition of the gut microbiome of fecal was tested., Results: The administration of BL significantly reduced body weight, improved hormone levels, improved IR, and attenuated pathological damage to ovarian tissues, up-regulated the expression of IRS1, PI3K, and AKT in liver. It also decreased serum LPS, TNF-α, and IL-6 levels, while downregulating the expression of Myd88, TLR4, and NF-κB p65. Additionally, BL improved intestinal barrier damage and upregulated the expression of Occludin. Interestingly, the abundance of norank&#95;f&#95;&#95;Muribaculacea and Lactobacillus was down-regulated, while the abundance of Akkermansia was significantly up-regulated., Conclusion: The results of the study showed that BL exerts a treatment PCOS effect, which may be related to the modulation of the gut microbiota, the improvement of insulin resistance and the intestinal-derived LPS-TLR4 inflammatory pathway. Objective: To evaluate auditory spatial discrimination capabilities in patients with mild to moderately severe symmetrical sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and to compare the impact of different psychophysical testing methods on Minimum Audible Angle (MAA) and test duration. Methods: A total of 105 symmetrical SNHL patients aged from 18 to 60 years old were enrolled from April to July 2023, including 56 males and 49 females. They were divided into three groups based on PTA: mild, moderate, and moderately severe hearing loss, with 35 individuals in each group. Additionally, a control group of 35 individuals with normal hearing was tested, including 18 males and 17 females. Participants underwent four distinct psychophysical discrimination tests: the block up-down, 1-up/1-down, 1-up/2-down, and 1-up/3-down procedures. We recorded the MAA and test duration for each. We employed repeated measures of ANOVA to compare the MAA and test duration across different methods and groups, and Pearson's correlation to assess the relationship between MAA and degree of hearing loss. Results: MAA of sound localization in patients with symmetrical SNHL was significantly positively correlated with the degree of hearing loss ( r =0.59, P <0.01). Significant deterioration in MAA was observed as hearing loss progressed to the moderate level (PTA≥35 dBHL, P <0.01). The testing methods significantly influenced MAA and testing duration ( F =24.02, P <0.01; F =75.56, P <0.01) and the 1-up/1-down method was the quickest, averaging only (0.69±0.32) mins. Conclusions: The horizontal plane auditory spatial discrimination abilities in patients with symmetrical SNHL is impaired progressively with increasing hearing loss, notably beyond moderate hearing loss levels. Different psychophysical methods influence both MAA and test duration, the quicker 1-up/1-down method is recommended for assessing MAA in symmetrical SNHL patients.

Background: The relationship between peripheral immune cells and immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is widely known; however, causal evidence of this link is lacking. Here, we aimed to determine the causal effect of peripheral immune cells, specifically total white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, and neutrophils, as well as lymphocyte subset traits, on the IgAN risk using a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis., Methods: The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used for the primary analysis. We applied three complementary methods, including the weighted median, MR-Egger regression, and MR-PRESSO, to detect and correct for the effect of horizontal pleiotropy. Additionally, we performed a multivariable MR (MVMR) analysis, adjusting for the effects of C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. The roles of specific lymphocyte subtypes and their significance have garnered interest. Bidirectional two-sample MR analysis was performed to test the potential causal relationships between immune traits, including median fluorescence intensities (MFIs) and the relative cell count (AC), and IgAN., Results: The IVW-MR analysis suggested a potential causal relationship between lymphocyte counts and IgAN in Europe (OR per 1-SD increase: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.08-1.88, P = 0.0123). The risk effect of lymphocytes remained even after adjusting for CRP levels using the MVMR method (OR per 1-SD increase: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.05-1.96, P = 0.0210). The other sensitivity analyses showed a consistent trend. The largest GWAS published to date was used for peripheral blood immunophenotyping to explore the potential causal relationship between peripheral immune cell subsets and IgAN. Six AC-IgAN and 14 MFI-IgAN pairs that reached statistical significance ( P < 0.05) were detected. Notably, CD3, expressed in eight subsets of T cells, consistently showed a positive correlation with IgAN. The bidirectional MR analysis did not reveal any evidence of reverse causality. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of bone nail and artificial periosteum combined with iliac cancellous bone grafting in repairing cleft lip and palate with alveolar cleft during dental replacement., Methods: The clinical data of 82 children with cleft lip and palate with alveolar cleft during dental replacement period were retrospectively analyzed from January 2020 to December 2023, and were divided into control group (iliac cancellous bone grafting alone, n=42) and experimental group (combined iliac cancellous bone grafting with bone nail and artificial periosteum, n=40) according to the operation method. The viable bone volume in bone graft area, absorption rate of whole bone graft and different bone graft areas, success rate of bone graft, survival rate of bone graft and complications were compared between the two groups. SPSS 25.0 software package was used for statistical analysis., Results: The surviving bone volume in the bone graft area was significantly larger in the experimental group 3 and 9 months after operation(P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in viable bone volume in bone graft area between the two groups 9 months and 3 months after surgery (P＞0.05). The bone graft absorptivity of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group 3, 9 months and 3-9 months after surgery(P＜0.05), and there was no significant difference between the two groups at 3, 9 months after surgery(P＞0.05). The absorption rate of bone graft in 1/2 area of nasal cavity, 1/2 area of alveolar ridge, 1/2 area of lip and 1/2 area of palate in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group 3 and 9 months after operation(P＜0.05). The absorptivity of bone graft in 1/2 area of alveolar ridge was significantly higher than that in 1/2 area of nasal cavity, and the absorptivity of bone graft in 1/2 area of palatal side was significantly higher than that in 1/2 area of lip in both groups (P＜0.05). The success rate and survival rate of bone grafting in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05). The complication rate of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P＜0.05)., Conclusions: Bone nail and artificial periosteum combined with iliac cancellous bone graft can effectively repair cleft lip and palate with alveolar cleft during dental replacement, reduce bone absorption rate and complications, and improve bone formation effect. Meanwhile, postoperative bone mass absorption mainly occurs within 3 months after surgery, and mainly occurs in the alveolar crest area and palatine area.

The discovery of novel antitumor agents derived from natural plants is a principal objective of anticancer drug research. Frankincense, a widely recognized natural antitumor medicine, has undergone a systematic review encompassing its species, chemical constituents, and diverse pharmacological activities and mechanisms. The different species of frankincense include Boswellia serrata, Somali frankincense, Boswellia frereana, and Boswellia arabica. Various frankincense extracts and compounds exhibit antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective properties and antioxidation, memory enhancement, and immunological regulation capabilities. They also have comprehensive effects on regulating flora. Frankincense and its principal chemical constituents have demonstrated promising chemoprophylactic and therapeutic abilities against tumors. This review provides a systematic summary of the mechanism of action underlying the antitumor effects of frankincense and its major constituents, thus laying the foundations for developing effective tumor-combating targets., (© 2024. Background: The CRC-VTE trial conducted in China revealed a significant occurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients following colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery, raising concerns about implementing thromboprophylaxis measures. The present study aimed to identify and analyze inappropriate aspects of current thromboprophylaxis practices., Methods: This study performed an analysis of the CRC-VTE trial, a prospective multicenter study that enrolled 1836 patients who underwent CRC surgery. The primary objective was to identify independent risk factors for VTE after CRC surgery using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Furthermore, among the cases in which VTE occurred, the appropriateness of thromboprophylaxis was assessed based on several factors, including pharmacologic prophylaxis, time to initiate prophylaxis, drug selection, drug dosage, and duration of pharmacologic prophylaxis. Based on the analysis of the current state of thromboprophylaxis and relevant clinical guidelines, a modified Delphi method was used to develop a clinical pathway for VTE prophylaxis after CRC surgery., Results: In this analysis of 1836 patients, 205 (11.2%) were diagnosed with VTE during follow-up. The multifactorial analysis identified several independent risk factors for VTE, including age (≥70 years), female sex, varicose veins in the lower extremities, intraoperative blood transfusion, and the duration of immobilization exceeding 24 h. None of the patients diagnosed with VTE in the CRC trial received adequate thromboprophylaxis. The main reasons for this inappropriate practice were the omission of thromboprophylaxis, delayed initiation, and insufficient duration of thromboprophylaxis. We developed a specialized clinical pathway for thromboprophylaxis after CRC surgery to address these issues., Conclusions: This study offers a comprehensive nationwide evaluation of existing thromboprophylaxis practices in patients after CRC surgery in China. A specialized clinical pathway was developed to address the identified gaps and improve the quality of care. The recent theory-driven discovery of a class of clathrate hydrides (e.g., CaH 6 , YH 6 , YH 9 , and LaH 10 ) with superconducting critical temperatures ( T c ) well above 200 K has opened the prospects for "hot" superconductivity above room temperature under pressure. Recent efforts focus on the search for superconductors among ternary hydrides that accommodate more diverse material types and configurations compared to binary hydrides. Through extensive computational searches, we report the prediction of a unique class of thermodynamically stable clathrate hydrides structures consisting of two previously unreported H 24 and H 30 hydrogen clathrate cages at megabar pressures. Among these phases, LaSc 2 H 24 shows potential hot superconductivity at the thermodynamically stable pressure range of 167 to 300 GPa, with calculated T c s up to 331 K at 250 GPa and 316 K at 167 GPa when the important effects of anharmonicity are included. The very high critical temperatures are attributed to an unusually large hydrogen-derived density of states at the Fermi level arising from the newly reported peculiar H 30 as well as H 24 cages in the structure. Background: Low immunity and sleep disorders are prevalent suboptimal health conditions in contemporary populations, which render them susceptible to the infiltration of pathogenic factors. LJC, which has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine for nourishing the Yin and blood and calming the mind, is obtained by modifying Qiyuan paste. Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo has been shown to improve the immune function in sleep-deprived mice. In this study, based on the traditional Chinese medicine theory, LJC was prepared by adding D. officinale Kimura et Migo to Qiyuan paste decoction., Methods: Indicators of Yin deficiency syndrome, such as back temperature and grip strength, were measured in each group of mice; furthermore, behavioral tests and pentobarbital sodium-induced sleep tests were performed. An automatic biochemical analyzer, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit, and other methods were used to determine routine blood parameters, serum immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA, and IgM), cont (C3, C4), acid phosphatase (ACP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in the spleen, serum hemolysin, and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) levels. In addition, serum levels of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate (Glu) were detected using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Hematoxylin-eosin staining and Nissl staining were used to assess the histological alterations in the hypothalamus tissue. Western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expressions of the GABA pathway proteins GABRA1, GAD, GAT1, and GABAT1 and those of CD 4+ and CD 8+ proteins in the thymus and spleen tissues., Results: The findings indicated that LJC prolonged the sleep duration, improved the pathological changes in the hippocampus, effectively upregulated the GABA content in the serum of mice, downregulated the Glu content and Glu/GABA ratio, enhanced the expressions of GABRA1, GAT1, and GAD, and decreased the expression of GABAT1 to assuage sleep disorders. Importantly, LJC alleviated the damage to the thymus and spleen tissues in the model mice and enhanced the activities of ACP and LDH in the spleen of the immunocompromised mice. Moreover, serum hemolysin levels and serum IgG, IgA, and IgM levels increased after LJC administration, which manifested as increased CD 4+ content, decreased CD 8+ content, and enhanced DTH response. In addition, LJC significantly increased the levels of complement C3 and C4, increased the number of white blood cells and lymphocytes, and decreased the percentage of neutrophils in the blood., Conclusions: LJC can lead to improvements in immunocompromised mice models with insufficient sleep. Objective To construct a risk prediction model by integrating the molecular subtypes of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and immune-related genes.Methods With GSE71729 data set ( n =145) as the training set,the differentially expressed genes and differential immune-related genes between the squamous and non-squamous subtypes of PDAC were integrated to construct a regulatory network,on the basis of which five immune marker genes regulating the squamous subtype were screened out.An integrated immune score (IIS) model was constructed based on patient survival information and immune marker genes to predict the clinical prognosis of PDAC patients,and its predictive performance was tested with 5 validation sets ( n =758).Results PDAC patients were assigned into high risk and low risk groups according to the IIS.In both training and validation sets,the overall survival of patients in the high risk group was shorter than that in the low risk group (both P <0.001).The multivariable Cox regression showed that IIS was an independent prognostic factor for PDAC ( HR =2.16,95% CI =1.50-3.10, P <0.001).Conclusion IIS can be used for risk stratification of PDAC patients and may become a potential prognostic marker for PDAC.

Objectives: To elucidate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of Atractylodes macrocephala extract crystallize (BZEP) and BZEP self-microemulsion (BZEPWR) on metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) induced by "high sugar, high fat, and excessive alcohol consumption" based on the gut-liver axis HDL/LPS signaling pathway., Methods: In this study, BZEP and BZEPWR were obtained via isolation, purification, and microemulsification. Furthermore, an anthropomorphic MAFLD rat model of "high sugar, high fat, and excessive alcohol consumption" was established. The therapeutic effects of BZEPWR and BZEP on the model rats were evaluated in terms of liver function, lipid metabolism (especially HDL-C), serum antioxidant indexes, and liver and intestinal pathophysiology. To determine the lipoproteins in the serum sample, the amplitudes of a plurality of NMR spectra were derived via deconvolution of the composite methyl signal envelope to yield HDL-C subclass concentrations. The changes in intestinal flora were detected via 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. In addition, the gut-liver axis HDL/LPS signaling pathway was validated using immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and western blot., Results: The findings established that BZEPWR and BZEP improved animal signs, serum levels of liver enzymes (ALT and AST), lipid metabolism (TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C), and antioxidant indexes (GSH, SOD, and ROS). In addition, pathological damage to the liver, colon, and ileum was ameliorated, and the intestinal barrier function of the model rats was restored. At the genus level, BZEPWR and BZEP exerted positive effects on beneficial bacteria, such as Lactobacillus and norank&#95;f&#95;&#95;Muribaculaceae, and inhibitory effects on harmful bacteria, such as unclassified&#95;f&#95;&#95;Lachnospiraceae and Blautia. Twenty HDL-C subspecies were detected, and their levels were differentially increased in both BZEPWR and BZEP groups, with BZEPWR exhibiting a stronger elevating effect on specific HDL-C subspecies. Also, the gut-liver axis HDL/LPS signaling pathway was studied, which indicated that BZEPWR and BZEP significantly increased the expressions of ABCA1, LXR, occludin, and claudin-1 proteins in the gut and serum levels of HDL-C. Background: This study aimed to identify survival risk factors in Chinese children with hepatoblastoma (HB) and assess the effectiveness of the new treatment protocol proposed by the Chinese Children's Cancer Group (CCCG) in 2016., Methods: A multicenter, prospective study that included 399 patients with HB from January 2015 to June 2020 was conducted. Patient demographics, treatment protocols, and other related information were collected. Cox regression models and Kaplan-Meier curve methods were used., Results: The 4-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 76.9 and 93.5%, respectively. The 4-year EFS rates for the very-low-risk, low-risk, intermediate-risk, and high-risk groups were 100%, 91.6%, 81.7%, and 51.0%, respectively. The 4-year OS was 100%, 97.3%, 94.4%, and 86.8%, respectively. Cox regression analysis found that age, tumor rupture (R +), and extrahepatic tumor extension (E +) were independent prognostic factors. A total of 299 patients had complete remission, and 19 relapsed. Patients with declining alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) > 75% after the first two cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy had a better EFS and OS than those ≤ 75%., Conclusions: The survival outcome of HB children has dramatically improved since the implementation of CCCG-HB-2016 therapy. Panus is a typical wood-rotting fungi, which plays considerable roles in ecosystems and has significant economic value. The genus Panus currently consists of more than 100 species; however, only eight species have been reported from China. This study aims to distinguish and describe two novel species from the Panussimilis complex, namely Panusminisporus and Panusbaishanzuensis , one new record species from Zhejiang Province, Panussimilis and three common species, Panusconchatus , Panusneostrigosus and Panusrudis , based on detailed morphological and phylogenetic studies, relying on Chinese specimens. Panusminisporus is characterised by its reddish-brown pileus, decurrent lamellae with cross-veins, slender stipe, smaller basidiospores, wider generative hyphae and absence of sclerocystidia. Panusbaishanzuensis is featured by its pileus with concentric and darker ring zone, decurrent lamellae with cross-veins, shorter stipe, longer basidiospores, diverse and shorter cheilocystidia and smaller sclerocystidia. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU) and translation elongation factor 1-α gene ( tef-1α ) were employed to perform a thorough phylogenetic analysis for genus Panus and related genera, using Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood analysis. The results indicate that Panusminisporus and Panusbaishanzuensis form two independent clades within the Panussimilis complex themselves. Detailed descriptions, taxonomic notes, illustrations etc. were provided. Hydrides are promising candidates for achieving room-temperature superconductivity, but a formidable challenge remains in reducing the stabilization pressure below a megabar. In this study, we successfully synthesized a ternary lanthanum borohydride by introducing the nonmetallic element B into the La-H system, forming robust B-H covalent bonds that lower the pressure required to stabilize the superconducting phase. Electrical transport measurements confirm the presence of superconductivity with a critical temperature ( T c ) of up to 106 K at 90 GPa, as evidenced by zero resistance and T c shift under an external magnetic field. X-ray diffraction and transport measurements identify the superconducting compound as LaB 2 H 8 , a nonclathrate hydride, whose crystal structure remains stable at pressures as low as ∼ half megabar (59 GPa). Stabilizing superconductive stoichiometric LaB 2 H 8 in a submegabar pressure regime marks a substantial advancement in the quest for high- T c superconductivity in polynary hydrides, bringing us closer to the ambient pressure conditions.

Background: Although intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) thrombolysis is the most effective early treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS), outcomes vary greatly among patients. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) is prone to distant organ ischemia and may be a predictor for poor prognosis in AIS patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). Our aim was to investigate the predictivity of LVSD diagnosis (as measured by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)) on 90-day clinical outcomes in AIS patients undergoing thrombolysis., Methods: The current prospective cohort study continuously enrolled 273 AIS patients from the National Stroke Prevention and Treatment Engineering Management Special Database who underwent IVT and completed echocardiography within 24 h of admission between 2021 and 2023. LVSD was examined by evaluation of the echocardiographic LVEF values using Simpson's biplane method of discs in line with international guidelines, and defined as a LVEF value < 50%. Multivariable ordinal logistic regression model was performed to analyze the association between LVEF and functional outcome at 3 months. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) was used to examine the shape of the dose-response association between reduced LVEF and poor functional outcomes. Subgroup analysis was also employed to further verify the reliability and practicability of the results., Results: Baseline data analysis showed LVSD patients had more comorbidities including on multivariate analyses, LVSD (OR 2.78, 95% CI 1.23 to 6.24, P=0.014), pre-existing diabetes mellitus (OR 2.08, 95% CI 1.11 to 3.90, P=0.023) and NIHSS on arrival (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.21 to 1.49, P<0.001) were independent predictors of poor functional outcomes (mRS ≥ 3) at 3 months. Multivariable-adjusted spline regression indicated a linear dose-response association between LVEF after IVT and poor functional outcomes (p for linearity < 0.001), with the optimal cutoff values of LVEF being 0.48., Conclusions: Our finding indicated that AIS patients with LVSD after IVT had poorer outcomes, suggesting the need to monitor and optimize LVEF in stroke management.

Background: Dendrobium officinale flowers (DOF) have the effects of antiaging and nourishing yin, but it lacks pharmacological research on skin aging., Objective: Confirming the role of DOF in delaying skin aging based on the "in vitro animal-human" model., Methods: In this experiment, three kinds of free radical scavenging experiments in vitro, D-galactose-induced aging mouse model, and human antiaging efficacy test were used to test whether DOF can improve skin aging through anti-oxidation., Results: In vitro experiment shows that DOF has certain scavenging effect on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical, hydroxyl free radical, and superoxide free radical, and its IC 50 is 0.2090 μg/mL, 15.020, and 1.217 mg/mL respectively. DOF can enhance the activities of T-AOC, SOD, CAT, and GSH Px in the serum of aging mice, increase the content of GSH, and reduce the content of MDA when administered with DOF of 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 g/kg for 6 weeks. In addition, it can enhance the activity of SOD in the skin of aging mice, increase the content of Hyp, and decrease the content of MDA, activated Keap1/Nrf2 pathway in the skin of aging mice. Applying DOF with a concentration of 0.2 g/mL on the face for 8 weeks can significantly improve the skin water score and elasticity value, reduce facial wrinkles, pores, acne, and UV spots, and improve the facial brown spots and roughness., Conclusion: DOF can significantly improve skin aging caused by oxidative stress, and its mechanism may be related to scavenging free radicals in the body and improving skin quality., (© 2024 The Authors. Background: The alveolar epithelial type II cell (AT2) and its senescence play a pivotal role in alveolar damage and pulmonary fibrosis. Cell circadian rhythm is strongly associated with cell senescence. Differentiated embryonic chondrocyte expressed gene 1 (DEC1) is a very important circadian clock gene. However, the role of DEC1 in AT2 senescence and pulmonary fibrosis was still unclear., Results: In this study, a circadian disruption model of light intervention was used. It was found that circadian disruption exacerbated pulmonary fibrosis in mice. To understand the underlying mechanism, DEC1 levels were investigated. Results showed that DEC1 levels increased in lung tissues of IPF patients and in bleomycin-induced mouse fibrotic lungs. In vitro study revealed that bleomycin and TGF-β1 increased the expressions of DEC1, collagen-I, and fibronectin in AT2 cells. Inhibition of DEC1 mitigated bleomycin-induced fibrotic changes in vitro and in vivo. After that, cell senescence was observed in bleomycin-treated AT2 cells and mouse models, but these were prevented by DEC1 inhibition. At last, p21 was confirmed having circadian rhythm followed DEC1 in normal conditions. But bleomycin disrupted the circadian rhythm and increased DEC1 which promoted p21 expression, increased p21 mediated AT2 senescence and pulmonary fibrosis., Conclusions: Taken together, circadian clock protein DEC1 mediated pulmonary fibrosis via p21 and cell senescence in alveolar epithelial type II cells., (© 2024. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been linked to increased severity and incidence of airway diseases, especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Airway remodeling is an important event in both COPD and asthma, and airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) are key cells which directly involved in airway remodeling. However, it was unclear how PM2.5 affected ASMCs. This study investigates the effects of PM2.5 on airway smooth muscle and its mechanism. We first showed that inhaled particulate matter was distributed in the airway smooth muscle bundle, combined with increased airway smooth muscle bundle and collagen deposition in vivo. Then, we demonstrated that PM2.5 induced up-regulation of collagen-I and alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression in rat and human ASMCs in vitro. Next, we found PM2.5 led to rat and human ASMCs senescence and exhibited senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) by autophagy-induced GATA4/TRAF6/NF-κB signaling, which contributed to collagen-I and α-SMA synthesis as well as airway smooth muscle remodeling. Background: The impact of hepatic resection type on long-term oncological prognosis of patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been systematically investigated. We sought to determine risk factors, recurrence patterns, and survival outcomes after anatomical resection (AR) versus non-anatomical resection (NAR) for early-stage HCC., Methods: From a prospectively collected multicenter database, consecutive patients undergoing curative hepatectomy for early-stage HCC were identified. Recurrence patterns, overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and risk factors were investigated in patients undergoing AR versus NAR using propensity score matching (PSM), subgroup analysis, and COX regression analysis., Results: A total of 3585 patients with early-stage HCC were enrolled, including 1287 and 2298 in the AR and NAR groups, respectively. After PSM, the OS and RFS of patients in the AR group were 58.8% and 42.7%, which were higher than those in the NAR group (52.2% and 30.6%, both p < 0.01). The benefits of AR were consistent across most subgroup analyses of OS and RFS. Multivariable COX regression analysis showed that AR was independently associated with better OS and RFS. Notably, although recurrence patterns were comparable, the risk factors for recurrence were not identical for AR versus NAR. Microvascular invasion and narrow resection margin were only associated with a higher recurrence rate after NAR., Conclusions: This study demonstrated that AR decreases the risk of tumor recurrence and improves OS and RFS in patients with early-stage HCC. The effective and mild [4+1] annulation of ninhydrin-derived MBH carbonates with α,β-unsaturated ketones has been developed, providing a wide range of multisubstituted furans in high yields (up to 90%) with excellent β-regioselectivities. In contrast, the polysubstituted cyclopentenes bearing dispiro-bisindanedione motifs were obtained via classical [3+2] annulations by employing ninhydrin-derived MBH carbonates with 2-arylidene-1,3-indandiones under the same catalytic conditions. Furthermore, the structures of two kinds of cycloadducts were straightforwardly confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis.

Sarcodon and Hydnellum are two ectomycorrhizal genera of important ecological and economic value in Southwest China, and they are common in the free markets in this region. It was estimated that more than 1,500 tonnes of them were sold as edible per year, but there was little information about the taxonomic placements of these edible mushrooms sold in the markets. Traditional concepts of the two genera have also been challenged recently, and circumscription of Sarcodon and the informally defined clade "Neosarcodon" remained unresolved. In the present study, specimens collected in the field and purchased from the markets in Southwest China were analyzed based on morphological characters and DNA sequences. Phylogeny of the traditional Sarcodon s. lat. and Hydnellum s. lat. was reconstructed from the combined internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large ribosomal subunit (nLSU) and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2) dataset based on expanded samples to reevaluate the taxonomic placements of the two genera. In the present molecular analyses, four distinct clades were recovered and strongly supported: Hydnellum, Neosarcodon, Phellodon and Sarcodon. Neosarcodon is formally introduced as a generic name to include nine species previously placed in Sarcodon, and the delimitation of Sarcodon is revised based on phylogenetic and morphological studies. Phylogenetic analyses also revealed an unexpected species diversity (17 phylogenetic species) of Sarcodon and Hydnellum in the markets; nine phylogenetic species of Sarcodon and eight of Hydnellum were uncovered from the samples collected in the markets. Eight species were resolved in the traditional S. imbricatus complex, with S. imbricatus s.str. being the most common edible stipitate hydnoid fungal species. Three of the edible Hydnellum species (H. edulium, H. subalpinum, and H. subscabrosellum), and five separated from the S. imbricatus complex (Sarcodon flavidus, S. giganteus, S. neosquamosus, S. nigrosquamosus, and S. pseudoimbricatus), are described as new. Objective: To compare the short-term efficacy of Kamikawa anastomosis and double-tract reconstruction (DTR) after proximal gastrectomy. Methods: This was a propensity score matched, retrospective, cohort study. Inclusion criteria comprised age 20-70 years, diagnosis of gastric cancer by pathological examination of preoperative endoscopic biopsies, tumor diameter ≤4 cm, and location in the upper 1/3 of the stomach (including the gastroesophageal junction), and TNM stage IA, IB, or IIA. The study cohort comprised 73 patients who had undergone laparoscopic proximal gastric cancer radical surgery in the Department of Gastroenterology, Tangdu Hospital, Air Force Medical University between June 2020 and February 2023, 19 of whom were in the Kamikawa group and 54 in the DTR group. After using R language to match the baseline characteristics of patients in a ratio of 1:2, there were 17 patients in the Kamikawa group and 34 in the DTR group. Surgery-related conditions, postoperative quality of life, and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results: After propensity score matching, there were no statistically significant differences in baseline data between the two groups ( P >0.05). Compared with the DTR group, the Kamikawa group had longer operative times (321.5±15.7 minutes vs. 296.8±26.1 minutes, t =32.056, P <0.001), longer anastomosis times (93.0±6.8 minutes vs. 45.3±7.7 minutes, t =56.303, P <0.001), and less bleeding (76 [54~103] mL vs.112 [82~148) mL, Z =71.536, P <0.001); these differences are statistically significant. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in tumor size, time to first postoperative passage of gas, postoperative hospital stay, number of lymph nodes removed, duration of lymph node dissection, or total hospitalization cost (all P >0.05). The median follow-up time was 6.1 ± 1.8 months. As to postoperative quality of life, the Kamikawa group had a lower rate of upper gastrointestinal contrast reflux than did the DTR group (0 vs. 29.4% [10/34], χ 2 =6.220, P =0.013); this difference is statistically significant. However, differences between the two groups in quality of life score on follow-up of 3 months and 6 months on the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) scale were not statistically significant (all P >0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications was 2/17 in the Kamikawa group, which is significantly lower than the 41.2% (14/34) in the DTR group (χ 2 =4.554, P =0.033). Conclusion: Kamikawa anastomosis and DTR are equally safe and effective procedures for reconstructing the digestive tract after proximal gastric surgery. Although Kamikawa anastomosis takes slightly longer and places higher demands on the surgical team, it is more effective at preventing postoperative reflux.

Protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO, EC 1.3.3.4) catalyzes the oxidation of protoporphyrinogen IX to protoporphyrin IX, which is a key step in the synthesis of porphyrins in vivo. PPO inhibitors use protoporphyrinogen oxidase as the target and block the biosynthesis process of porphyrin by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme, eventually leading to plant death. In this paper, phenyl triazolinone was used as the parent structure, and the five-membered heterocycle with good herbicidal activity was introduced by using the principle of substructure splicing. According to the principle of bioisosterism, the sulfur atoms on the thiophene ring were replaced with oxygen atoms. Finally, 33 phenyl triazolinones and their derivatives were designed and synthesized, and their characterizations and biological activities were investigated. The in vitro PPO inhibitory activity and greenhouse herbicidal activity of 33 target compounds were determined, and compound D4 with better activity was screened out. The crop safety determination, field weeding effect determination, weeding spectrum determination, and crop metabolism study were carried out. The results showed that compound D4 showed good safety to corn, soybean, wheat, and peanut but poor selectivity to cotton. The field weeding effect of this compound is comparable to that of the commercial herbicide sulfentrazone. The herbicidal spectrum experiment showed that compound D4 had a wide herbicidal spectrum and a good growth inhibition effect on dicotyledonous weeds. Molecular docking results showed that compound D4 forms a hydrogen bond with amino acid residue Arg-98 in the tobacco mitochondria ( mt PPO)-active pocket and forms two π-π stacking interactions with Phe-392. This indicates that compound D4 has stronger PPO inhibitory activity. This indicates that compound D4 has wide prospects for development.

Primary liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors with high mortality and increasing incidence worldwide. Currently, chemotherapy is an important comprehensive treatment for moderate or advanced liver cancer. Despite the effective therapeutic effects initially achieved by chemotherapy, the high phenotypic and molecular heterogeneity of liver cancer cells facilitates resistance to conventional chemotherapy or targeted therapy and even leads to multidrug resistance (MDR), which is one of the major obstacles for clinical chemotherapy. Drug resistance exhibits multiple and complex molecular mechanisms to antagonize therapy under pharmacological pressure, including overexpression of drug efflux transporters, downstream adaptive response (such as apoptosis, autophagy, and endoplasmic reticulum stress), dysfunction of DNA damage repair (DDR), epigenetic modification, tumor microenvironment (TME) as well as extracellular matrix (ECM). Aim: This paper aimed to explore the application of three-dimensional (3D) printing in cardiovascular diseases, to reach an insight in this field and prospect the future trend., Methods: The articles were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Excel 2019, VOSviewer 1.6.16, and CiteSpace 6.1.R6 were used to analyze the information., Results: A total of 467 papers of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases were identified, and the first included literature appeared in 2000. A total of 692 institutions from 52 countries participated in the relevant research, while the United States of America contributed to 160 articles and were in a leading position. The most productive institution was Curtin University , and Zhonghua Sun who has posted the most articles ( n =8) was also from there. The Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine published most papers ( n =25). The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery coveted the most citations ( n =520). Related topics of frontiers will still focus on congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, and left atrial appendage closure., Conclusions: The authors summarized the publication information of the application of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases related literature from 2000 to 2023, including country and institution of origin, authors, and publication journal.
