- Abstract
Objective: To explore the risk factors of early femoral head necrosis in patients with femoral neck fracture after operation, and to establish a nomogram prediction model., Methods: A total of 167 patients with femoral neck fracture from January 2020 to April 2022 were selected and divided into necrosis group and non-necrosis group according to whether femoral head necrosis occurred in the early postoperative period. There were 21 males and 17 females in the necrosis group, aged from 33 to 72 years old, with an average of (53.49±10.96) years old, and the time from injury to operation ranged from 40 to 67 hours, with average time of(53.46±7.23) hours. There were 72 males and 57 females in the non-necrosis group, aged from 18 to 83 years, with an average of (52.78±12.55) years old, and the time from injury to operation was 18 to 65 hours, with an average time of(39.88±7.79) hours. The potential influencing factors, including patient gender, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, chronic liver disease, posterior inclination angle of the femoral head, operation mode, fracture displacement, fracture line location, preoperative braking traction, screw arrangement mode, reduction quality, age, body mass index(BMI), and injury to operation time were subjected to single factor analysis. Logistic multivariate regression analysis was conducted for factors with a significance level of P <0.05., Results: The incidence of femoral head necrosis in 167 patients with femoral neck fracture was 22.76%. The following factors were identified as independent risk factors for early postoperative femoral head necrosis in patients with femoral neck fractures:coexisting diabetes[ OR =5.139, 95% CI (1.405, 18.793), P =0.013], displaced fracture [ OR =3.723, 95% CI (1.105, 12.541), P =0.034], preoperative immobilization[ OR =3.444, 95% CI (1.038, 11.427), P =0.043], quality of reduction [ OR =3.524, 95% CI (1.676, 7.411), P =0.001], and time from injury to surgery[ OR =1.270, 95% CI (1.154, 1.399), P =0.000]. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test( χ
2 =3.951, P =0.862), the area under the receiver operator characteristic(ROC) curve was 0.944[ P <0.001, 95% CI (0.903, 0.987)], with a sensitivity of 89.50%, the specificity was 88.40%, the maximum Youden index was 0.779, and the overall trend of the model correction curve was close to the ideal curve. Model regression equation was Z =1.637 × diabetes + 1.314× fracture displacement+1.237 × preoperative braking traction+1.260 × reduction quality + 0.239×injury to operation time-18.310., Conclusion: The occurrence of early femoral head necrosis in patients with femoral neck fracture postoperatively is affected by multiple factors. The risk early warning model established according to the factors has good predictive efficacy.- Published

- Abstract
Objective: This review seeks to deepen our understanding of the factors contributing to nursing students' academic dishonesty and the repercussions of such behaviours on their learning in both classroom and clinical settings, and on the integrity of the nursing profession., Design and Methods: It was a scoping review in which a five-stage methodological framework informed its process. Six databases were searched for relevant original studies. Other search methods were also conducted using Google Scholar, Trove, and ProQuest Dissertations for theses pertinent to the topic. An inductive descriptive approach was used to analyse and synthesise data., Results: Twenty-seven studies and nine doctoral theses were selected and included in the scoping review. Of these, 25 studies used a quantitative approach, nine studies a qualitative one, and two studies used mixed methods. Three categorical factors, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and external, contributed to nursing students' academic dishonesty., Conclusion: Academic dishonesty in nursing students is concerning. Noted factors contributing to academic dishonesty include stress and pressure experienced by students, the prevalence of peer cheating, and lack of knowledge. Most alarming is the significant correlation between academic dishonesty and clinical dishonesty. The evidence suggests that students who engage in dishonest behaviour in academic settings may be more likely to engage in dishonest behaviour in clinical settings. This raises serious concerns about integrity, ethics, patient safety and the reputation of nursing students, universities, healthcare providers and health professionals., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest All authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest in relation to this scoping review., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. - Abstract
Mitochondrial genomics, as a useful marker for phylogenetics and systematics of organisms, are important for molecular biology studies. The phylogenetic relationships of the Polypedilum generic complex remains controversial, due to lack taxonomy and molecular information. In this study, we newly sequenced mitogenomes of 14 species of the Polypedilum generic complex. Coupled with three recently published sequences, we analyzed the nucleotide composition, sequence length, and evolutionary rate of this generic complex. The control region showed the highest AT content. The evolution rate of protein coding genes was as follows: ATP8 > ND6 > ND5 > ND3 > ND2 > ND4L > ND4 > COX1 > ND1 > CYTB > APT6 > COX2 > COX3 . We reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships among the genera within the Polypedilum generic complex based on 19 mitochondrial genomes (seventeen ingroups and two outgroups), using Bayesian Inference (BI) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) methods for all databases. Phylogenetic analysis of 19 mitochondrial genomes demonstrated that the Endochironomus + Synendotendipes was sister to Phaenopsectra + Sergentia .

- Abstract
Background: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an immune-mediated condition characterized by abundant IgG4 positive plasma cells and fibrosis in the affected tissues. It affects most parts of the body; however, there are not many reports on IgG4-RD involving the colon., Case Summary: A 50-year-old man complaining of intermittent fever for more than two years was referred to our hospital. Based on various investigations before surgery, we diagnosed him with chronic perforation of the sigmoid colon caused by inflammatory change or tumor. IgG blood tests before the operation suggested IgG4-RD, and postoperative pathology confirmed this prediction., Conclusion: We present a patient with IgG4-RD with colon involvement, which is an uncommon site. This report will expand the understanding of IgG4-RD in unknown tissues., Competing Interests: Conflict-of-interest statement: All the authors report no relevant conflicts of interest for this article., (©The Author(s) 2022. - Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the hypouricemic effect in hyperuricemia mice of triterpenoid acids from Inonotus obliquus (TAIO), and decipher of the underlying xanthine oxidase inhibitory mechanism. Measurement of xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activity was assayed. Organ indexes and serum biochemical indicators were measured in potassium oxonate-induced hyperuricemia mice. Studies showed that TAIO had the strong inhibitory effect on XO activity, and its inhibition type was mixed and reversible. In vivo, TAIO decreased efficiently uric acid level, hepatic XO, serum blood urea nitrogen activities in hyperuricemia mice. Indicating that TAIO may ameliorate kidney damage and relieve inflammation in hyperuricemic mice, and had the inhibitory effect on XO activity. Furthermore, eight triterpenoids were identified by Ultra performance liquid chromatography electrospray quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry. These findings proved that triterpenoids from Inonotus obliquus would have potential biological characteristics and effect on controlling hyperuricemia and gout as an active supplement. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: There are a large amount of evidence indicating that hyperuricemia and gout are related to the hypertension and obesity. And gout and hyperuricemia are also possible connection with cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Currently, xanthine oxidase is the target of many kinds of chemical drugs at present, but the therapeutic drugs used in clinical medicine will produce more or less side effects. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the material basis of effective substances for reducing uric acid in Inonotus obliquus and to evaluate its effect. This study can provide a promising application of Inonotus obliquus in the fields of functional foods or medicines for gout and hyperuricemia., (© 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

- Abstract
Objective: To identify the gaps in understanding the experience of older Chinese people receiving palliative care in nursing homes., Design: A nine-step scoping review methodology was used to search for relevant literature., Methods: Sixteen databases were searched for relevant studies published in English from January 1990 to August 2019. The grey literature was searched for relevant theses pertaining to the topic., Results: A total of 18 studies from the United States (n = 2), mainland China (n = 1), Hong Kong (n = 13), Taiwan (n = 2) and one thesis from Hong Kong were included in the final analysis. The findings were categorised into four themes: (1) advance care planning preferences; (2) decision-making process related to palliative care; (3) palliative care experiences and barriers; and (4) practice to improve palliative care., Conclusions: Given the distinctive experiences of older Chinese residents in nursing homes when faced with death and dying, cultural beliefs strongly influenced their attitudes and behaviours in receiving end-of-life care. As Chinese immigrants have become a major ethnic group in western countries, there is benefit in recognising that older Chinese people living in nursing homes and needing palliative care will face specific challenges. Culturally appropriate interventions to address older Chinese people's existential stress, grief related to loss, communication and dietary requirements, and other barriers should be developed and implemented., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interests The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
Scatophagus argus is a new emerging aquaculture fish in East and Southeast Asia. To date, research on reproductive development and regulation in S. argus is lacking. Additionally, genetic and genomic information about reproduction, such as gonadal transcriptome data, is also lacking. Herein, we report the first gonadal transcriptomes of S. argus and identify genes potentially involved in reproduction and gonadal development. A total of 136,561 unigenes were obtained by sequencing of testes (n = 3) and ovaries (n = 3) at stage III. Genes upregulated in males and females known to be involved in gonadal development and gametogenesis were identified, including male-biased dmrt1, amh, gsdf, wt1a, sox9b, and nanos2, and female-biased foxl2, gdf9, bmp15, sox3, zar1, and figla. Serum estradiol-17β and 11-ketotestosterone levels were biased in female and male fish, respectively. Sexual dimorphism of serum steroid hormone levels were interpreted after expression analysis of 20 steroidogenesis-related genes, including cyp19a1a and cyp11b2. This gonadal transcript dataset will help investigate functional genes related to reproduction in S. argus.

- Abstract
Introduction: Set1/MLL complexes are the main histone H3K4 methyltransferases and are crucial regulators of tumor pathogenesis. DPY30 is a fairly uncharacterized protein in the Set1/MLL complex, but it has been reported to regulate tumor growth. However, the exact mechanism by which DPY30 mediates the progression of cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) remains unknown. In the present study, we investigated the role of DPY30 in CSCC at a molecular level., Methods: We obtained normal cervical and cervical cancer tissue samples from patients. We used immunohistochemistry and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect DPY30 expression in CSCC tissues. In addition, we used the human cervical cancer cell line to evaluate expression levels of DPY30 and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers in vitro., Results: Immunohistochemical and real-time PCR analyses showed that DPY30 expression was upregulated in tissue samples from patients with CSCC and that DPY30 levels were associated with EMT markers such as E-cadherin. Furthermore, knock-down of DPY30 by siRNA resulted in a decrease in the proliferation, migration, and invasion of CSCC cells. We also found that DPY30-induced EMT is mediated by the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway., Conclusion: Our results suggest that elevated DPY30 levels may contribute to EMT by activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling in the progression of CSCC., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest in this work., (© 2019 He et al.)

- Abstract
Objectives: This study sought to examine predictors of psychological well-being (PWB) among nursing students at an Australian regional university. The study postulated that: stress would have a negative effect on PWB; internal factors such as self-efficacy, resilience and mindfulness would have a positive effect on PWB and, external factors like social support would have a positive effect on PWB., Design: A cross sectional descriptive predictive model was used to test the study hypotheses., Setting and Participants: Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants at an Australian regional university with non-traditional nursing cohorts and where the curriculum is predominantly taught on-line., Methods: Six validated scales (The Perceived Stress Scale; General Self-Efficacy Scale; Connor Davidson Resilience Scale; Multi-Dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support; Psychological Wellbeing Scale, Mindfulness Awareness Scale) and a demographic inventory were administered as an online survey. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed to assess the internal and external factors to predict the participants' PWB., Results: Of the 1760 invitations distributed, 657 responses were returned; however, because some were found to be significantly incomplete, 538 responses only were used for the data analysis. Demographics illustrated the characteristics of a non-traditional cohort that was female dominated. All three hypotheses were supported. An unexpected finding was that while it might be anticipated that non-traditional cohorts will have stronger coping skills due to life experiences, this should not be assumed. We found that our participants had higher stress scores and lower psychological wellbeing, compared to the younger groups (nursing or health allied) reported in previous studies. It was perhaps due to their difficulties in juggling responsibilities between study, work and family and the nature of studying externally online., Conclusions: This study represents only a snapshot in time but emphasises the need for specific curriculum preparation to promote positive coping strategies. In this way, new graduates may be better prepared to engage with complex, demanding and ever-changing work environments across the globe., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.)

- Abstract
Increasing deregulation of the Australian tertiary system has led to changes in entry behaviours anticipated in non-traditional student cohorts. Many nursing students are returning to formal studies later in their lives seeking a career change. Accessibility and flexible study paths make external study increasingly attractive. However external studies require a level of commitment and willingness to develop self-direction and a capacity for resilience. This study sought to elicit the level of self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) among undergraduate nursing students currently enrolled at a bachelor level, and to elicit what differences existed in the levels of SDLR in relation to age, gender, academic year, and previous qualifications. An online survey questionnaire was utilised based on the Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale for Nursing Education. In contrast to earlier work, the participant profile in this study was predominantly non-traditional and captured participants from all three years of the nursing programme. Results found no significant age or gender differences. First year students demonstrated lower levels of self-directed learning readiness. However, unexpected results were demonstrated in the survey subscales in relation to previous qualifications. Participants who already held post-graduate qualifications showed lower scores for Self-Management than those who held diploma qualifications, while students who already held a bachelor's degree had the highest scores in Desire for Learning. The study findings suggest that universities should not assume that SDL capability is dependent on mature age or length of exposure to tertiary study., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
University schools of nursing in Australia are the main providers of nursing education programmes for international students. The large cohort of overseas students requires that universities, as education providers, understand their needs and the problems related to studying and living in Australia. An exploratory descriptive quantitative study was conducted to investigate 119 Chinese international undergraduate nursing students' acculturative stress and sense of coherence at an Australian university in Sydney. Two validated scales were used: Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) and Sense of Coherence (SOC). Results indicated that overall Chinese nursing students had a moderate level of acculturative stress and sense of coherence. However, there was a significant difference in the level of acculturative stress among three groups of Chinese nursing students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing course, and SOC was negatively correlated with the level of acculturative stress. This study extends the knowledge of the experiences of Chinese nursing students studying and living in an English-speaking country. The study also highlights the need for universities to provide relevant support to overseas students to make their study journey smoother and more successful., (Crown Copyright © 2011. Objective: To explore the operative method and its clinical effects of pronation and supination external rotation trimalleolar fractures., Methods: From March 2000 to July 2006,42 patients of the pronation and supination external rotation trimalleolar fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation. Thirty-one were males and 11 were females, with an average age of 40.5 years (from 19 to 76 years). Four cases were open fractures and 38 cases close fractures. The fractures were classified as pronation-external rotation (grade IV) injury in 18 cases and supination-external rotation (grade IV)in 24 cases according to the system of Lauge-Hansen. The time of injury to operation was 2 hours to 27 days. The medial, lateral and posterior malleolus were exposed by standard anteromedial and Gatellier-Chastang approaches. The reduction and internal fixation started with the posterior, then the medial and the lateral malleolus and distal tibiofibular syndesmosis in sequence. The anteroposterior, lateral and mostise X-ray films were taken after operation., Results: All the patients were followed up for an average time of 13.5 months(from 6 to 24 months). The time of union was from 12 to 16 weeks. The results were excellent in 20,good in 16, fair in 4 and poor in 2 cases according to Baird-Jackson ankle scoring system based on pain, stability, walking ability, range of motion and radiological manifestations. The excellent and good rate was 85.7%. There were no infection, malunion and nonunion of the fractures except that the inserted screw to distal tibiofibular syndesmosis was broken in 1 case., Conclusion: The key of operative treatment is to restore the anatomy of ankle and to regain the ankle function maximally.

- Abstract
Background & Objective: Recent research had shown that survivin, a new member of the inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAP) family, which also plays an important role in mitosis and cell apoptosis, and selectively overexpressed in common human cancers. This study was designed to examine the expression of survivin and its correlation with expression of Fas and FasL in ovarian epithelial carcinoma., Methods: Immunohistochemical assay (SP method) was used to detect the expression of survivin, Fas and FasL genes in 84 ovarian cancer tissues, 39 benign tumors of ovary, and 20 normal ovary tissues., Results: The level of expression of survivin was higher in the patients with ovarian cancer (63.1%) than that in the patients with benign tumor of ovary (30.8%) and normal ovary tissues (0.0%)(P< 0.01). The expression level of survivin was strongly correlated with clinical stage and poor differentiation. The expression of Fas in ovarian cancer (23.8%) was significantly lower than that of ovarian benign tumor (53.8%) (P< 0.01). The expression rate of FasL was significantly higher in ovarian cancer (44.0%) than that in ovarian benign tumor (23.1%)(P< 0.05). Positive survivin expression was strongly correlated with Fas and FasL expression., Conclusion: (1) High expression of survivin may plays an important role in the development of ovarian cancer and could be a useful prognostic maker for patients with ovarian cancer.(2) The abnormal expression of Fas and FasL in ovary cancer and their correlation with survivin suggested that survivin might be in cooperation with Fas and FasL,which involved in the pathogenesis of ovarian cancer.

Objective: The aim of this study was to select specific targets locating on the surface of epithelial ovarian cancer cells., Methods: Peptide phage display library was used to isolate specific ligand to ovarian cancer cell receptors. The diluted library was incubated with the normal ovarian cells that primarily cultured before hand, and then the supernatant of nonbonding phage was added to the first epithelial ovarian cancer cell line A2780. Phage that binds to the cell surface are eluted and then amplified to be used in the next round. After the third round of panning, the elute was used as input phage for the next cell line biopanning. Four epithelial ovarian cancer cell lines were used one by one in this way. Finally the positive clones were identified by ELISA assay. Sequencing analysis was carried out for further identification., Results: 10 positive clones were chosen and one was regarded as target clone. A candidate sequence (YYGLAEVDAGGS) was identified by amino acid sequence assay., Conclusion: The phage peptide library provides an efficient selection system for searching special targets locating on the cell surface.

- Abstract
Purpose: To assess the usefulness of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) and expandable metallic stent (EMS) placement for treatment of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS)., Methods: Thirty-two patients with BCS were treated by PTA alone or by PTA and EMS placement. Among the 32 patients, a membranous obstruction was found in 24 and a segmental stenosis or occlusion in 8 patients. The follow-up period for PTA was 38-68 months (mean 52.2 months); for EMS it was 20-36 months (mean 24.3 months)., Results: Twenty-one patients underwent PTA as the primary treatment. Of these, one patient died of disseminated intravascular coagulation shortly after the procedure; 20 had good to excellent initial angiographic and clinical results. Of the 20, restenosis or reocclusion developed in 10 patients (48%), all before 27 months; 8 patients (38%) became symptomatic, and 2 remained symptom-free for a total recurrent obstruction rate of 50%. The EMS group of 17 patients included 11 patients who underwent primary stenting and 6 patients with secondary stenting after recurrence following primary PTA; restenosis was demonstrated in only 2 patients (12%)., Conclusions: We conclude that PTA alone produces excellent short-term results and about 50% sustained patency after 2 years in patients with BCS; therefore it should remain the procedure of first choice. Stents should be reserved for primary or secondary PTA failures.

- Abstract
Appropriateness of the Rösch-Uchida transjugular liver access set designed for TIPSS procedure was confirmed, especially about the catheter angle and effective length of the 20 G puncture needle, by CT analysis on three dimensional vascular anatomy of the liver. Clinically, TIPSS using the set was successfully made for two patients, connecting superior right hepatic vein with right portal vein in one patient and middle hepatic vein with left portal vein in another patient with hypoplastic right portal vein. Prior to TIPSS procedure, verification of vascular anatomy on CT images is the key to success of TIPSS in safe.
