We report the fourth installment in the series of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Quasar Survey, which includes quasars observed between September, 2017 and June, 2021. There are in total 13,066 quasars reliably identified, of which 6,685 are newly discovered that are not reported in the SDSS DR14 quasar catalog or Million Quasars catalog. Because LAMOST does not provide accurate absolute flux calibration, we re-calibrate the spectra with the SDSS/Pan-STARRS1 multi-band photometric data. The emission line properties of H$\alpha$, H$\beta$, Mg\,{\sc ii} and C\,{\sc iv}, and the continuum luminosities are measured by fitting the re-calibrated spectra. We also estimate the single-epoch virial black hole masses ($\rm M_{BH}$) using the derived emission line and continuum parameters. This is the first time that the emission line and continuum fluxes were estimated based on LAMOST re-calibrated quasar spectra. The catalog and spectra for these quasars are available online. After the nine-year LAMOST quasar survey, there are in total 56,175 identified quasars, of which 24,127 are newly discovered. The LAMOST quasar survey not only discovers a great number of new quasars, but also provides a database for investigating the spectral variability of the quasars observed by both LAMOST and SDSS, and finding rare quasars including changing-look quasars and broad absorption line quasars., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1811.01570, Accepted by ApJS

Out-of-Distribution (OOD) detection, i.e., identifying whether an input is sampled from a novel distribution other than the training distribution, is a critical task for safely deploying machine learning systems in the open world. Recently, post hoc detection utilizing pre-trained models has shown promising performance and can be scaled to large-scale problems. This advance raises a natural question: Can we leverage the diversity of multiple pre-trained models to improve the performance of post hoc detection methods? In this work, we propose a detection enhancement method by ensembling multiple detection decisions derived from a zoo of pre-trained models. Our approach uses the p-value instead of the commonly used hard threshold and leverages a fundamental framework of multiple hypothesis testing to control the true positive rate of In-Distribution (ID) data. We focus on the usage of model zoos and provide systematic empirical comparisons with current state-of-the-art methods on various OOD detection benchmarks. The proposed ensemble scheme shows consistent improvement compared to single-model detectors and significantly outperforms the current competitive methods. Our method substantially improves the relative performance by 65.40% and 26.96% on the CIFAR10 and ImageNet benchmarks.

Compared with a single-input-single-output (SISO) wireless communication system, the benefit of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology originates from its extra degree of freedom (DOF), also referred as scattering channels or spatial electromagnetic (EM) modes, brought by spatial multiplexing. When the physical sizes of transmitting and receiving arrays are fixed, and there are sufficient antennas (typically with half-wavelength spacings), the DOF limit is only dependent on the propagating environment. Analytical methods can be used to estimate this limit in free space, and some approximate models are adopted in stochastic environments, such as Clarke's model and Ray-tracing methods. However, this DOF limit in an certain inhomogeneous environment has not been well discussed with rigorous full-wave numerical methods. In this work, volume integral equation (VIE) is implemented for investigating the limit of MIMO effective degree of freedom (EDOF) in three representative two-dimensional (2-D) inhomogeneous environments. Moreover, we clarify the relation between the performance of a MIMO system and the scattering characteristics of its propagating environment.

Quantum hydrodynamic model (QHDM) has become a versatile and efficient tool for studying plasmonics at the nanoscopic length scale. Yet its application to noble metals has not been sufficiently justified, in particular for situations where the metallic structures interface with dielectric material and electrons spill over the interfaces. In a recent work, we developed a refined QHDM, where the near-field effects and static polarization of metal ion lattice, and the electron affinity and static permittivity of the dielectric are incorporated. Here we perform a careful calibration of the model parameters for the refined QHDM. The model parameters are determined by benchmarking with (time-dependent) density functional theory calculations for special cases of simple metal. The predictive power of the refined QHDM with calibrated model parameters is faithfully demonstrated by the calculations of the optical responses from gold nanomatryoshkas of different sizes. The refined QHDM approach allows the quasinormal mode analysis for revealing the intrinsic optical properties of the nanoscopic metallic structures. Effective degree of freedom (EDOF) of a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system represents its equivalent number of independent single-input-single-output (SISO) systems, which directly characterizes the communication performance. Traditional EDOF only considers single polarization, where the full polarized components degrade into two independent transverse components under the far-field approximation. However, the traditional model is not applicable to complex scenarios especially for the near-field region. Based on an electromagnetic (EM) channel model built from the dyadic Green's function, we first calculate the EM EDOF to estimate the performance of an arbitrary MIMO system with full polarizations in free space. Then, we clarify the relations between the limit of EDOF and the optimal number of sources/receivers. Finally, potential benefits of near-field MIMO communications are demonstrated with the EM EDOF, in which the contribution of the longitudinally polarized source is taken into account. We study neutral Fermions pair creation with anomalous magnetic moment from the vacuum by time-independent magnetic-field inhomogeneity as an external background. We show that the problem is technically reduced to the problem of charged-particle creation by an electric step, for which the nonperturbative formulation of strong-field QED is used. We consider a magnetic step given by an analytic function and whose inhomogeneity may vary from a "gradual" to a "sharp" field configuration. We obtain corresponding exact solutions of the Dirac-Pauli equation with this field and calculate pertinent quantities characterizing vacuum instability, such as the differential mean number and flux density of pairs created from the vacuum, vacuum fluxes of energy and magnetic moment. We show that the vacuum flux in one direction is formed from fluxes of particles and antiparticles of equal intensity and with the same magnetic moments parallel to the external field. Backreaction to the vacuum fluxes leads to a smoothing of the magnetic-field inhomogeneity. TianQin is a planned space-based gravitational wave (GW) observatory consisting of three earth orbiting satellites with an orbital radius of about $10^5~{\rm km}$. The satellites will form a equilateral triangle constellation the plane of which is nearly perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. TianQin aims to detect GWs between $10^{-4}~{\rm Hz}$ and $1~{\rm Hz}$ that can be generated by a wide variety of important astrophysical and cosmological sources, including the inspiral of Galactic ultra-compact binaries, the inspiral of stellar-mass black hole binaries, extreme mass ratio inspirals, the merger of massive black hole binaries, and possibly the energetic processes in the very early universe or exotic sources such as cosmic strings. In order to start science operations around 2035, a roadmap called the 0123 plan is being used to bring the key technologies of TianQin to maturity, supported by the construction of a series of research facilities on the ground. Two major projects of the 0123 plan are being carried out. In this process, the team has created a new generation $17~{\rm cm}$ single-body hollow corner-cube retro-reflector which has been launched with the QueQiao satellite on 21 May 2018; a new laser ranging station equipped with a $1.2~{\rm m}$ telescope has been constructed and the station has successfully ranged to all the five retro-reflectors on the Moon; and the TianQin-1 experimental satellite has been launched on 20 December 2019 and the first round result shows that the satellite has exceeded all of its mission requirements., Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, invited article to a special section in PTEP

The TianQin-1 satellite (TQ-1), which is the first technology demonstration satellite for the TianQin project, was launched on 20 December 2019. The first round of experiment had been carried out from 21 December 2019 until 1 April 2020. The residual acceleration of the satellite is found to be about $1\times10^{-10}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$ and about $5\times10^{-11}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.05~{\rm Hz}\,$, measured by an inertial sensor with a sensitivity of $5\times10^{-12}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The micro-Newton thrusters has demonstrated a thrust resolution of $0.1~\mu{\rm N}$ and a thrust noise of $0.3~\mu{\rm N}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}$. The residual noise of the satellite with drag-free control is $3\times10^{-9}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The noise level of the optical readout system is about $30~{\rm pm}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The temperature stability at temperature monitoring position is controlled to be about $\pm3~{\rm mK}$ per orbit, and the mismatch between the center-of-mass of the satellite and that of the test mass is measured with a precision of better than $0.1~{\rm mm}$., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures
