Cordyceps sinensis (C. sinensis) is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine commonly used to protect renal function and relieve kidney injury. This study aimed to reveal the renal protective mechanism of C. sinensis in renal ischemia–reperfusion injury (RIRI). First, we obtained 8 active components and 99 common targets of C. sinensis against RIRI from public databases. Second, we have retrieved 38 core targets through STRING database analysis. Third, Gene Ontology analysis of 38 core targets is indicated that C. sinensis treatment RIRI may related hormone regulation, oxidative stress, cell proliferation, and immune regulation. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis of 38 core targets is indicated that C. sinensis treatment RIRI may involve in PI3K–Akt, HIF-1, and MAPK signaling pathways, as well as advanced glycation end product (AGE)–receptor for AGE (RAGE) signaling pathway in diabetic complications. Lastly, molecular docking was used to detect the binding activity and properties of active components and core target using molecular docking. And the results showed that eight active components of C. sinensis had low affinity with core targets. In conclusion, C. sinensis may improve RIRI by regulating oxidative stress and immunity through PI3K–Akt, HIF-1, and MAPK pathways.

Rationale and objectiveCOVID-19 vaccination is the most effective way to prevent COVID-19. For chronic kidney disease patients on long-term dialysis, there is a lack of evidence on the pros and cons of COVID-19 vaccination. This study was conducted to investigate the immunogenicity and safety of COVID-19 vaccines in patients on dialysis.MethodsPubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were systemically searched for cohort, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and cross-sectional studies. Data on immunogenicity rate, antibody titer, survival rate, new infection rate, adverse events, type of vaccine, and patient characteristics such as age, sex, dialysis vintage, immunosuppression rate, and prevalence of diabetes were extracted and analyzed using REVMAN 5.4 and Stata software. A random effects meta-analysis was used to perform the study.ResultsWe screened 191 records and included 38 studies regarding 5,628 participants. The overall immunogenicity of dialysis patients was 87% (95% CI, 84-89%). The vaccine response rate was 85.1 in hemodialysis patients (HDPs) (1,201 of 1,412) and 97.4% in healthy controls (862 of 885). The serological positivity rate was 82.9% (777 of 937) in infection-naive individuals and 98.4% (570 of 579) in patients with previous infection. The Standard Mean Difference (SMD) of antibody titers in dialysis patients with or without previous COVID-19 infection was 1.14 (95% CI, 0.68–1.61). Subgroup analysis showed that the immunosuppression rate was an influential factor affecting the immunogenicity rate (P < 0.0001). Nine studies reported safety indices, among which four local adverse events and seven system adverse events were documented.ConclusionsVaccination helped dialysis patients achieve effective humoral immunity, with an overall immune efficiency of 87.5%. Dialysis patients may experience various adverse events after vaccination; however, the incidence of malignant events is very low, and no reports of death or acute renal failure after vaccination are available, indicating that vaccine regimens may be necessary.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/display_record.asp?ID=CRD42022342565, identifier: CRD42022342565.

The accurate assessment of heat transfer via unheated spaces is an important aspect of calculating the heating load of a building and mitigating its energy consumption and carbon emissions. Currently, the majority of international and national standards employ the correction factor method for the calculation of heat transfer via unheated spaces, categorized into three types: detailed temperature correction factors (b), simplified b-values, and a correction factor (a) of thermal resistance. In order to provide an accurate and efficient evaluation of heat transfer through unheated spaces, this paper conducts a comparative analysis of these three methods using on-site measurements, TRNSYS (version 18) simulations, and analytical calculations. The findings indicate that the use of simplified b-values results in inaccurate predictions of correction factors and heat transfer via unheated balconies, yielding relative discrepancies within the ranges of 0.065 to 0.527 and 12.2% to 111.3%, respectively. Detailed temperature correction factors offer a more precise prediction, exhibiting relative discrepancies of −0.161 to 0.11 and 0.1% to 33.5%. However, the complexity of the calculation process, influenced by dynamically changing climates and solar radiation, necessitates a steady-state assumption to streamline calculations. The use of detailed correction factors of thermal resistance yields more accurate predictions, with relative discrepancies ranging from −0.176 to 0.11 and 0.3% to 33.1%, and it is recommended as the main method for predicting heat transfer via unheated spaces. In addition, it is advised to enhance the thermal resistance correction factor method by considering the influence of radiative heat transfer via transparent envelopes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Towards the goal of improving the tribological properties of epoxy‐based composites, epoxy resin was firstly modified with carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (CTBN), and then further modified by core–shell structured of SiO2@MoS2 fillers. The friction and wear properties of studied composites were tested on a Plate‐on‐Ring configuration under different loads and speeds. To reveal the tribological contribution of MoS2 and SiO2 in the hybrid fillers, tribo‐tests were also done on composites filled with single CTBN, MoS2 and SiO2. It is revealed that the transfer of both the EP/CTBN matrix and SiO2@MoS2 CSs fillers play an important role in governing the tribo‐properties of rubber toughened EP composites. Depending on contacting conditions, the SiO2@MoS2 CSs fillers might be released into the sliding interface and tribo‐chemical reactions might take place, both of which helped improve the tribo‐properties of studied composites.
