Abstract

Auscultation of internal body sounds is essential for diagnosing a range of health conditions, yet its effectiveness is often limited by clinicians' expertise and the acoustic constraints of human hearing, restricting its use across various clinical scenarios. To address these challenges, we introduce AuscultaBase, a foundational framework aimed at advancing body sound diagnostics through innovative data integration and contrastive learning techniques. Our contributions include the following: First, we compile AuscultaBase-Corpus, a large-scale, multi-source body sound database encompassing 11 datasets with 40,317 audio recordings and totaling 322.4 hours of heart, lung, and bowel sounds. Second, we develop AuscultaBase-Model, a foundational diagnostic model for body sounds, utilizing contrastive learning on the compiled corpus. Third, we establish AuscultaBase-Bench, a comprehensive benchmark containing 16 sub-tasks, assessing the performance of various open-source acoustic pre-trained models. Evaluation results indicate that our model outperforms all other open-source models in 12 out of 16 tasks, demonstrating the efficacy of our approach in advancing diagnostic capabilities for body sound analysis., Comment: 26 pages

2. De-excitations of highly excited $^{11}$B$^*$ and $^{15}$N$^*$ based on the GEMINI++ code

Abstract

Nuclear de-excitations associated with neutrino-nucleus interactions and nucleon decays are playing an increasingly significant role in neutrino experiments. We explore the GEMINI++ code and estimate its ability to account for the de-excitation processes of highly excited $^{11}$B$^*$ and $^{15}$N$^*$, which can be created in the liquid scintillator and water Cherenkov detectors respectively. It is found that GEMINI++ can not describe the nuclear experimental data of $^{11}$B$^*$ and $^{15}$N$^*$ well. To improve its performance for de-excitations of light nuclei, we modify GEMINI++ and then develop a code of GEMINI++4$\nu$, which can give the best predictions compared with experimental measurements among some widely used statistical model codes., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

We explore the bound neutrons decay into invisible particles (e.g., $n\rightarrow 3 \nu$ or $nn \rightarrow 2 \nu$) in the JUNO liquid scintillator detector. The invisible decay includes two decay modes: $ n \rightarrow { inv} $ and $ nn \rightarrow { inv} $. The invisible decays of $s$-shell neutrons in $^{12}{\rm C}$ will leave a highly excited residual nucleus. Subsequently, some de-excitation modes of the excited residual nuclei can produce a time- and space-correlated triple coincidence signal in the JUNO detector. Based on a full Monte Carlo simulation informed with the latest available data, we estimate all backgrounds, including inverse beta decay events of the reactor antineutrino $\bar{\nu}_e$, natural radioactivity, cosmogenic isotopes and neutral current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos. Pulse shape discrimination and multivariate analysis techniques are employed to further suppress backgrounds. With two years of exposure, JUNO is expected to give an order of magnitude improvement compared to the current best limits. After 10 years of data taking, the JUNO expected sensitivities at a 90% confidence level are $\tau/B( n \rightarrow { inv} ) > 5.0 \times 10^{31} \, {\rm yr}$ and $\tau/B( nn \rightarrow { inv} ) > 1.4 \times 10^{32} \, {\rm yr}$., Comment: 28 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables

4. Predictive Modeling of Flexible EHD Pumps using Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks

Abstract

We present a novel approach to predicting the pressure and flow rate of flexible electrohydrodynamic pumps using the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. Inspired by the Kolmogorov-Arnold representation theorem, KAN replaces fixed activation functions with learnable spline-based activation functions, enabling it to approximate complex nonlinear functions more effectively than traditional models like Multi-Layer Perceptron and Random Forest. We evaluated KAN on a dataset of flexible EHD pump parameters and compared its performance against RF, and MLP models. KAN achieved superior predictive accuracy, with Mean Squared Errors of 12.186 and 0.001 for pressure and flow rate predictions, respectively. The symbolic formulas extracted from KAN provided insights into the nonlinear relationships between input parameters and pump performance. These findings demonstrate that KAN offers exceptional accuracy and interpretability, making it a promising alternative for predictive modeling in electrohydrodynamic pumping.

Abstract

BackgroundDue to the widespread and unprecedented popularity of mobile phones, the use of digital medicine and mobile health apps has seen significant growth. Mobile health apps have tremendous potential for monitoring and treating diseases, improving patient care, and promoting health. ObjectiveThis paper aims to explore research trends, coauthorship networks, and the research hot spots of mobile health app research. MethodsPublications related to mobile health apps were retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science database with no language restrictions. Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder was employed to extract bibliographic information (publication year and journal source) and perform a descriptive analysis. We then used the VOSviewer (Leiden University) tool to construct and visualize the co-occurrence networks of researchers, research institutions, countries/regions, citations, and keywords. ResultsWe retrieved 2802 research papers on mobile health apps published from 2000 to 2019. The number of annual publications increased over the past 19 years. JMIR mHealth and uHealth (323/2802, 11.53%), Journal of Medical Internet Research (106/2802, 3.78%), and JMIR Research Protocols (82/2802, 2.93%) were the most common journals for these publications. The United States (1186/2802, 42.33%), England (235/2802, 8.39%), Australia (215/2802, 7.67%), and Canada (112/2802, 4.00%) were the most productive countries of origin. The University of California San Francisco, the University of Washington, and the University of Toronto were the most productive institutions. As for the authors’ contributions, Schnall R, Kuhn E, Lopez-Coronado M, and Kim J were the most active researchers. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of the top 100 keywords forms 5 clusters: (1) the technology and system development of mobile health apps; (2) mobile health apps for mental health; (3) mobile health apps in telemedicine, chronic disease, and medication adherence management; (4) mobile health apps in health behavior and health promotion; and (5) mobile health apps in disease prevention via the internet. Abstract

A 20-kiloton liquid scintillator detector is designed in the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) for multiple physics purposes, including the determination of the neutrino mass ordering through reactor neutrinos, as well as measuring supernova neutrinos, solar neutrinos, and atmosphere neutrinos to explore different physics topics. Efficient reconstruction algorithms are needed to achieve these physics goals in a wide energy range from MeV to GeV. In this paper, we present a novel method for reconstructing the energy of events using hit information from 25600 3-inch photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) and the OCCUPANCY method. Our algorithm exhibits good performance in accurate energy reconstruction, validated with electron Monte Carlo samples spanning kinetic energies from 10 MeV to 1 GeV.

13. One-loop partition functions in $T\overline{T}$-deformed AdS$_3$

Abstract

We study the geometry of $T\bar{T}$-deformed BTZ black hole and find it can be regarded as a quotient of hyperbolic space. We then consider the massive scalar field propagating in the $T\bar{T}$-deformed BTZ black hole background. The one-loop partition function of scalar field is calculated using the heat kernel method and the Wilson spool proposal. These two methods give consistent result which implies the Wilson spool proposal still holds under $T\bar{T}$ deformation. Moreover, we also calculate the one-loop partition function of graviton in $T\bar{T}$-deformed BTZ black hole. We find the deformed one-loop partition functions are modified in a simple way, which corresponds to a replacement of the modular parameter. The result precisely matches the large $c$ expansion of $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFT partition function. These results provide a further check about the correspondence between $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFT$_2$ and AdS$_3$ with mixed boundary condition., Comment: 24 pages,v2:references added,v3:published version

Abstract

Kagome materials have recently drawn great attention due to the interplay between nontrivial band topology, electron correlations, and Van Hove singularities related many-body orders. Here we report three new vanadium-based kagome metals, TiV6Sn6, ZrV6Sn6, and HfV6Sn6, and conduct a comprehensive investigation of their structural, magnetic, and electrical transport properties. All three compounds exhibit large unsaturated magnetoresistances and multiband Hall effects at low temperatures, indicating the existence of multiple highly mobile carriers. Both the diagonal and off-diagonal resistivity show quantum oscillations with nontrivial Berry phases and high quantum mobilities. First-principles calculations together with quantum oscillation analyses suggest the Van Hove singularities at the M point for the three compounds all located in close vicinity of the Fermi level, and there also exist multiple topological nontrivial band crossings, including a nodal ring and a massive Dirac cone. Our work extends the kagome AM6X6 family and paves the way for searching possible Van Hove physics in the V kagome lattice.

Abstract

The core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is considered one of the most energetic astrophysical events in the universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before (pre-SN) and during the supernova (SN) burst presents a unique opportunity for multi-messenger observations of CCSN events. In this study, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector currently under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed to ensure both prompt alert speed and comprehensive coverage of progenitor stars. It incorporates prompt monitors on the electronic board as well as online monitors at the data acquisition stage. Assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system exhibits sensitivity to pre-SN neutrinos up to a distance of approximately 1.6 (0.9) kiloparsecs and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kiloparsecs for a progenitor mass of 30 solar masses, considering both normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by analyzing the accumulated event anisotropy of inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos. 24. Environmental radon control in the 700-m underground laboratory at JUNO

Abstract

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory is building the world's largest liquid scintillator detector with a 20 kt target mass and about 700 m overburden. The total underground space of civil construction is about 300,000 m$^3$ with the main hall volume of about 120,000 m$^3$, which is the biggest laboratory in the world. Radon concentration in the underground air is quite important for not only human beings' health but also the background of experiments with rare decay detection, such as neutrino and dark matter experiments. The radon concentration is the main hall is required to be around 100 Bq/m$^3$. Optimization of the ventilation with fresh air is effective to control the radon underground. To find the radon sources in the underground laboratory, we made a benchmark experiment in the refuge room near the main hall. The result shows that the radon emanating from underground water is one of the main radon sources in the underground air. The total underground ventilation rate is about 160,000 m$^3$/h fresh air with about 30 Bq/m$^3$ $^{222}$Rn from the bottom of the vertical tunnel after optimization, and 55,000 m$^3$/h is used for the ventilation in the main hall. Finally, the radon concentration inside the main hall decreased from 1600 Bq/m$^3$ to around 100 Bq/m$^3$. The suggested strategies for controlling radon concentration in the underground air are described in this paper.

26. Deep mining of healthy blood metagenomics and phageomes

Abstract

Objective To explore the presence and potential interactions of microbes and bacteriophages in the blood of healthy individuals by employing in-depth bioinformatics mining to analyze the structure and function of the blood microbiome ecosystem. Methods Blood plasma samples from 1 600 voluntary blood donors collected at Mianyang Central Blood Station from 2012 to 2018 were subjected to DNA extraction and library construction. High-throughput sequencing was conducted using the Illumina HiSeq 4500 platform, followed by extensive bioinformatics analysis. Microbial abundance in blood samples was analyzed using metagenomic analysis software such as Bowtie2, Trimmomatic and Kraken. Subsequent phageome analysis included sequence quality control, assembly, identification, clustering and functional annotation using software such as Megahit, geNomad, CheckV and eggNOG-mapper. Phylogenetic trees, species annotation and host analysis and prediction for the identified blood bacteriophages were constructed using iTOL, BLAST and PhaBOX software. Results Metagenomic sequencing identified microbes across 36 phyla, 151 orders, 338 families, 338 genera and 3 757 species in the plasma samples. At the species level, the most abundant species included Bacillus cereus, Lactobacillus murinus, L. johnsonii, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, B. thuringiensis, L. reuteri, Cutibacterium acnes, Dietzia sp. JS16-p6b, Mycoplasma hyorhinis, M. hyopneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. Through phageome analysis, 202 viral Operational Taxonomic Units (vOTUs) were identified, revealing 24 types of bacteriophages. Host analysis using the viral host database completed matches for 15 potential bacteriophage hosts, including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Rhodoferax lacus, Pseudoalteromonas marina, Thalassotalea loyana, Vibrio alginolyticus, V. tasmaniensis, V. vulnificus, Pseudomonas sp., Agrobacterium sp. ST15.13/040, Enterococcus gallinarum, Flavobacterium sp., Thermotoga naphthophila, Chryseobacterium sp. RU33C, L. acidipiscis and Neisseria mucosa. Conclusion The study of the healthy human blood microbiome and phageome reveals the presence of microbes and phages in the blood, which may have profound impacts on human health.

Abstract

Abstract [Objective] The study aims to investigate the effects of drought stress on the photosynthetic characteristics and anatomical structure of turnip (Brassica rapa) leaves, and to provide a basis for the selection and breeding of drought-resistant germplasm and the development of cultivation measures. [Methods] Drought-resistant and drought-sensitive turnip seedlings were selected for normal water-supply and drought-stress potting experiments to analyze the changes in leaf photosynthetic characteristics and anatomical structures. [Results] Drought stress reduced chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll contents, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, stomatal limiting values, as well as maximal fluorescence, variable fluorescence, maximal photochemical efficiency, and photochemical potential activity of turnip leaves, while the inter-cellular CO2 concentration, water-use efficiency, and initial fluorescence were increased, with greater variations in drought-sensitive germplasm. Drought also reduced leaf stomatal length, width, openness, density, and tissue laxity, while leaf thickness was increased. Drought also caused swelling of chloroplasts, blurring of basal lamellae, the appearance of cavities, and an increase in osmiophilic and amylopectin granules, while mitochondria were swollen and their internal cristae blurring, while the drought-sensitive germplasm was severely damaged. [Conclusion] Drought stress reduces stomatal opening and tissue structure laxity, increases leaf thickness, impaires the morphological structure of chloroplasts and mitochondria, and reduces the chlorophyll content and photosynthetic efficiency. The drought-resistant germplasm has stronger adaptive regulation to drought stress.

Abstract

This study investigated high-throughput screening of inhibitors for the key enzyme CitE in the synthesis of red yeast citrinin through computer simulation. First, Alphafold 2 was used to build the homology model of CitE. and it was aligned with similar sequences to predict the ligand binding region. Subsequently, a ligand library of 20 000 compounds was constructed by searching for natural ligands and flavonoid skeleton analogues in the Arthur database. Afterwards, molecular docking of the CitE protein to the library of small molecule compounds was performed using Maestro to select potential CitE ligands. Gromacs kinetic simulation was used to evaluate the binding stability, and the binding free energy was calculated using MM/PBSA. The protein-ligand binding mode was analyzed, confirming that six small molecule ligands including quercetin, luteolin, apigenin, genistein, 5,4’-dihydroxyflavone, and fisetin had strong CitE binding activities. The results from solid and liquid state fermentation showed that the above compounds exhibited significant inhibitory activity against Monascus citrinin production. Specifically, the addition of these compounds in solid state fermentation (20 mg/28 g of dry material) resulted in a reduction of Monascus citrinin production by 42.52%, 48.81%, 32.54%, 32.57%, 21.02%, and 13.67%, respectively, while their addition in liquid state fermentation (0.1 g/L) led to a reduction by 33.77%, 15.58%, 33.33%, 62.34%, 58.87%, and 50.22%, respectively. In summary, this study is of reference significance for establishing an efficient and safe Monasucs fermentation system.

Abstract

We discuss JUNO sensitivity to the annihilation of MeV dark matter in the galactic halo via detecting inverse beta decay reactions of electron anti-neutrinos resulting from the annihilation. We study possible backgrounds to the signature, including the reactor neutrinos, diffuse supernova neutrino background, charged- and neutral-current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos, backgrounds from muon-induced fast neutrons and cosmogenic isotopes. A fiducial volume cut, as well as the pulse shape discrimination and the muon veto are applied to suppress the above backgrounds. It is shown that JUNO sensitivity to the thermally averaged dark matter annihilation rate in 10 years of exposure would be significantly better than the present-day best limit set by Super-Kamiokande and would be comparable to that expected by Hyper-Kamiokande., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, matches the publised version

Abstract

We calculate the $T\bar{T}$-deformed entanglement entropy for integrable quantum field theories (IQFTs) using the form factor bootstrap approach. We solve the form factor bootstrap axioms for the branch-point twist fields and obtain the deformed form factors. Using these form factors, we compute the deformed von Neuman entropy up to two particle contributions. The solution of the form factor axioms is not unique. We find that for the simplest solution of the bootstrap axioms, the UV limit of the entanglement entropy takes the same form as the undeformed one, but the effective central charge is deformed. For solutions with additional CDD-like factors, we can have different behaviors. Abstract

Induction of hypothermia during hibernation/torpor enables certain mammals to survive under extreme environmental conditions. However, pharmacological induction of hypothermia in most mammals remains a huge challenge. Here we show that a natural product P57 promptly induces hypothermia and decreases energy expenditure in mice. Mechanistically, P57 inhibits the kinase activity of pyridoxal kinase (PDXK), a key metabolic enzyme of vitamin B6 catalyzing phosphorylation of pyridoxal (PL), resulting in the accumulation of PL in hypothalamus to cause hypothermia. The hypothermia induced by P57 is significantly blunted in the mice with knockout of PDXK in the preoptic area (POA) of hypothalamus. We further found that P57 and PL have consistent effects on gene expression regulation in hypothalamus, and they may activate medial preoptic area (MPA) neurons in POA to induce hypothermia. Taken together, our findings demonstrate that P57 has a potential application in therapeutic hypothermia through regulation of vitamin B6 metabolism and PDXK serves as a previously unknown target of P57 in thermoregulation. In addition, P57 may serve as a chemical probe for exploring the neuron circuitry related to hypothermia state in mice.
