Abstract

The 19F(p, αγ)16O reaction is of crucial importance for Galactic 19F abundances and CNO cycle loss in first generation Population III stars. Due to its extremely small cross sections, the 19F(p, αγ)16O reaction has not been measured in the low energy part of the Gamow window(70-200 keV). As a day-one campaign, the experiment was performed under the extremely low cosmicray-induced background environment of the China JinPing Underground Laboratory(CJPL), one of the deepest underground laboratories in the world. The γ-ray yields were measured over Ec.m. =72.4–344 keV, covering the full Gamow window for the first time. The direct experimental data will help people to expound the fluorine over-abundances, energy generation, as well as heavy-element nuclosynthesis scenario in asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars, with the astrophysical model on the firm ground.

30. Explosive Nuclear Burning in the pp-Chain Region and the Breakout Processes

Abstract

The nuclear reactions in the pp-chain region and on the breakout process from the pp-chain region under very high temperature conditions are reviewed, and some possibilities for experimental investigation are discussed. The reactions discussed could play an important role typically for the primordial nucleosynthesis and supernova nucleosynthesis. Specifically, I discuss here the reactions starting from the two key nuclei, 7Be and 7Li. The 7Be(n,α) reaction, which destroys 7Be, is considered to have a large impact to the primordial 7Li problem. Our recent estimate of the reaction rate indicates that the reaction rate can be about one order of magnitude smaller than the rate currently adopted, suggesting this channel has a minor effect for the 7Li problem. Under a proton-rich environment at high temperature like the νp-process, the 7Be(α,γ)11C(α,p)14N pathway is expected to play a majpr role for heavy element synthesis, comparable to the triple alpha process. These two reactions on the pathway were investigated by using low-energy, high-intensity RI beams of 7Be and 11C. The results support the theoretical prediction of heavy nucleus production at around mass 90-100 by the νp-process, where the anomalously abundant p-nuclei exist. The reactions on the breakout sequence of 7Li(n,γ)8Li(α,n)11B are also discussed which could paly a crucial role in nuetron-rich envirnments, like in the primirdial universe as well as the early stage of the r-process. The cross sections of the first step reaction 7Li(n,γ)8Li seems well confirmed, but the second step reaction 8Li(α,n)11B still is not well known yet, whose status of the study is discussed.

Abstract

22Na is an important isotope for the study of extinct radioactivity, meanwhile its sufficiently long half life provides the possibility to observe live 22Na in nearby nova explosions. The 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg is one of the key reactions that influence the 22Na abundance in nova ejecta. To study the proton resonant states in 23Mg relevant to the astrophysical 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg reaction rates, two measurements have been carried out at the CRIB separator of University of Tokyo, and the RIBLL secondary beamline in Lanzhou, respectively. The 22Na secondary beam was produced via the 1H(22Ne, 22Na)n charge exchange reaction. Thick-target inverse-kinematics method is applied to obtain the excitation function of 22Na+p elastic scattering. Extended gas target and solid state polyethylene foil were used in the two measurements, respectively, to map the different excitation energy region of the compound nucleus 23Mg. Several new resonant levels are observed and their contribution to the 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg reaction rate is evaluated.

Abstract

The mass of $^{27}$P is expected to impact the X-ray burst (XRB) model predictions of burst light curves and the composition of the burst ashes, but large uncertainties and inconsistencies still exist in the reported $^{27}$P masses. We have used the β-decay spectroscopy of $^{27}$S to determine the most precise mass excess of $^{27}$P to date to be −659(9) keV, which is 63 keV (2.3σ) higher and a factor of 3 more precise than the value recommended in the 2016 Atomic Mass Evaluation. Based on the new $^{27}$P mass, the Si26(p,γ)27P reaction rate and its uncertainty were recalculated using Monte Carlo techniques. We also estimated the previously unknown mass excess of $^{27}$S to be 17678(77) keV, based on the measured β-delayed two-proton energy and the Coulomb displacement energy relations. The impact of these well-constrained masses and reaction rates on the modeling of the explosive astrophysical scenarios has been investigated by post-processing XRB and hydrodynamic nova models. Compared to the model calculations based on the masses and rates from databases, the abundance of A=26 in the burst ashes is increased by a factor of 2.4, while no substantial change was found in the XRB energy generation rate or the light curve. Our calculation also suggests that $^{27}$S is not a significant waiting point in the rapid proton capture process, and the change of the Si26(p,γ)27P reaction rate is not sufficiently large to affect the conclusion previously drawn on the nova contribution to the synthesis of galactic $^{26}$Al.

Abstract

International audience; Atomic masses of seven Tz=−1, fp-shell nuclei from V44 to Cu56 and two low-lying isomers, V44m (Jπ=6+) and Co52m (Jπ=2+), have been measured with relative precisions of 1–4×10−7 with isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) at the Cooler Storage Ring (CSRe), Lanzhou. The masses of Cu56, Co52g,52m, and V44m were measured for the first time in this experiment. The mass excesses (ME"s) of V44, Mn48, Fe50, and Ni54 are determined with an order of magnitude improved precision compared to the literature values. Co52g,52m and Cu56 are found to be 370 and 400 keV more bound, respectively, while V44g,44m are ∼300 keV less bound than the extrapolations in the Atomic-Mass Evaluation 2012 (AME"12). The masses of the four Tz=−1/2 nuclei V45, Cr47, Mn49, and Fe51 are re-determined to be in agreement, within the experimental errors, with the recent JYFLTRAP (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) measurements or with the previous IMS measurements in CSRe. Details of the measurements and data analysis are described, and the impact of the new ME values on different aspects in nuclear structure are investigated and discussed.
