Abstract

With the success of bringing back lunar samples, Mars exploration and space station construction, new requirements for high performance materials were put forward with the devel-opment of China's new space missions. Based on the analysis of the current situation and trend of China's aerospace development, some demands for high performance materials such as lightweight high performance structural materials, lightweight high efficiency thermal protection materials, structural & functional integration materials, new multifunctional composite protective materials, extreme temperature resistant functional materials, intelligent materials, high performance spacesuit materials, functional gradient materials, meta-materials, 3D printing materials and 4D printing materials were analyzed. Finally, nanotechnology, material genetic engineering and other new technologies were put forward to incorporate the space environment into the whole process of aerospace materials development and to further carry out the research and development of aerospace materials.

4. Toward soil carbon storage:The influence of parent material and vegetation on profile-scale microbial community structure and necromass accumulation

Abstract

Soil microbial communities play a crucial role in the accumulation and stabilization of soil organic carbon (SOC) through complex processes involving plant residue transformation and mineral interactions. These processes are influenced by plant inputs and modulated by soil properties that are mostly determined by the parent material. However, our understanding is limited regarding the manner in which vegetation and parent material affect microbial community structure, necromass accumulation, and their subsequent impact on SOC storage. To bridge this knowledge gap, we conducted an in-depth investigation focusing on the top-down influence of vegetation type and the bottom-up effect of parent material on microbial-mediated carbon transformation across soil profiles in a tropical region. Our study encompassed 42 sites on three parent materials (basalt, granite, and marine sediments) and four vegetation types (rubber, banana, areca plantations and uncultivated grassland). Soil samples were collected at 0–20, 20–40, 40–80, and 80–100 cm depth. Microbial community structure and necromass were quantified using microbial biomarkers of phospholipid fatty acids and amino sugars, respectively. In rubber plantations, we observed a trend toward higher microbial biomass that, though not significant when compared to other vegetation types, transformed to a significantly higher accumulation of microbial necromass. This increase in microbial necromass was linked to the accumulation of SOC facilitated by the presence of clay size minerals in clayey soils developed from basalt. In particular, basaltic soils were dominated by bacteria, which facilitated the accumulation of bacterial necromass that significantly bolstered its contribution to SOC. In contrast, in sandier soils developed from granite and marine sediments, fungal communities and necromass dominated due to the propensity of fungi for coarser soil environments. Abstract

HZSM-5 supported SrTiO3 was prepared using sol-gel method. The materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, BET, BJH and FT-IR measurements. The activity of photocatalytic degradation of reactive brilliant red X-3B was studied on SrTiO3/HZSM-5. The results show that SrTiO3 material is mainly composed of perovskite SrTiO3, as well as a small amount of SrCO3 phase. SrTiO3 is coated on the external surface of HZSM-5 in the χSrTiO3/HZSM-5. The specific surface area of the supported materials is mainly provided by the zeolite, while pore size in the materials is mainly in the range between 2-20nm. Photocatalytic activity of SrTiO3 is obviously enhanced after being supported, and the 30%SrTiO3/HZSM-5 has the maximum activity. 93.8% of reactive brilliant red X-3B can be degraded on 30%SrTiO3/HZSM-5 after 90 minites irradiation, while only 23.9% of the dye can be degraded on pure SrTiO3.

This study was conducted to examine whether changes in serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are associated with the antidepressant effects of ketofol, a combination of ketamine and propofol, in ECT for patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD).Methods: Thirty patients with TRD (18– 65 years) were enrolled and underwent eight ECT sessions with ketamine (0.5 mg/kg) plus propofol (0.5 mg/kg) (ketofol). Symptom severity was monitored using the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), and serum levels of BDNF were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) at baseline and after 2, 4, and 8 ECT treatments. Serum levels of BDNF were also collected from thirty healthy controls.Results: At baseline, there were no significant differences in serum levels of BDNF between patients with TRD and healthy controls. The response and remission rates in patients with TRD were 100% (30/30) and 53.3% (16/30) after ECT treatment, respectively. Despite a significant reduction in HAMD-17 and BPRS scores after ECT, no changes in serum levels of BDNF were observed after ECT treatment when compared to baseline. No association was found between serum levels of BDNF and changes in illness severity.Conclusion: Serum levels of BDNF did not represent a suitable candidate biomarker for determining the antidepressant effects of ketofol during ECT for patients with TRD.Keywords: BDNF, ketamine, propofol, electroconvulsive therapy, treatment-resistant depression

Abstract

We used surface thermal lensing (STL) to measure the weak absorption of optical films. Different trends of STL phase signals were observed in films with two types of defect, i.e., absorptive defects and heat-resistant defects. Theoretical analysis was made, and it is in good agreement with the experimental results. Therefore, an enhanced STL technique is proposed to deduce both the magnitude of absorption and the type of defect in optical films, by considering signal intensity with its phase status. Abstract

To deduce the location of absorptive inclusions in thin films, temperature distributions in pure Ti[O.sub.2] films and Ti[O.sub.2] films with high-absorptance inclusions are analyzed based on temperature field theory. According to our theoretic simulations, the surface temperature rise increases when absorptive inclusions are incorporated into thin films and shows different values for different inclusions. With the increase of inclusion thickness, the surface temperature rise varies and has a maximum value. A potential method is presented to deduce the location of absorptive inclusion through calculating the surface temperature rise at two modulated frequencies, if it is possible to know in advance the inclusion material or to prejudge this from a thin-film deposition process. Abstract

A method is presented to evaluate optical absorption at a random wavelength by calculating temperature distribution in single-layer Ti[O.sub.2] films. Temperature distribution in single-layer Ti[O.sub.2] films was analyzed based on temperature field theory. Through our calculations, optical absorption variation was obtained to be similar to that of surface temperature rise in films. The surface temperature rise depends on film thickness, refractive index, extinction coefficient, specific heat, and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, the optical absorptions of the same single-layer Ti[O.sub.2] film at different wavelengths were deduced. As an example, the surface temperature rises were calculated for the 19 single-layer Ti[O.sub.2] films, which had been prepared by 12 different laboratories for the annual meeting of the Optical Society of America in 1986. This study examined whether changes in serum BDNF levels are associated with the antidepressant effects of nonconvulsive electrotherapy (NET).Methods: For BDNF analyses, serum samples were collected from 20 patients with treatment-refractory depression (TRD) and from 20 healthy controls. Serum samples were also collected from patients following a course of NET.Results: Although significantly lower baseline serum BDNF levels were observed in TRD patients than in healthy controls, no changes in serum BDNF levels were found in TRD patients after a course of NET compared to baseline. No significant association was found between serum BDNF levels and depression severity.Conclusion: Serum BDNF levels appear to have no clinical utility in the prediction of the antidepressant effects of NET in patients with TRD. 用电子束蒸发技术在K9玻璃及两种不同取向的钇铝石榴石(Y 3 Al 5 O 12 , 简称YAG)晶体上沉积了SiO 2 薄膜, 采用X射线衍射仪和纳米划痕仪对薄膜显微结构和力学性能进行了研究。实验结果表明: 薄膜在K9 、YAG(100) 和YAG(111)基底上分别呈现非晶态和多晶态; 沉积在不同基底上的薄膜的弹性模量并无明显差异; SiO 2 薄膜在K9和YAG基底上呈现不同的划痕破坏模式, 并且YAG晶体上薄膜的粘附失效临界附着力远远小于SiO 2 薄膜与K9基底的附着力。本文从薄膜的结构和弹性模量两方面分析解释了不同基底上薄膜的力学行为。

Abstract

Ta2O5 films are deposited on fused silica substrates by conventional electron beam evaporation method. By annealing at different temperatures, Ta2O5 films of amorphous, hexagonal and orthorhombic phases are obtained and confirmed by x-ray diffractometer (XRD) results. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis shows that chemical composition of all the films is stoichiometry. It is found that the amorphous Ta2 O5 film achieves the highest laser induced damage threshold (LIDT) either at 355 or 1064 nm, followed by hexagonal phase and finally orthorhombic phase. The damage morphologies at 355 and 1064 nm are different as the former shows a uniform fused area while the latter is centred on one or more defect points, which is induced by different damage mechanisms. The decrease of the LIDT at 1064 nm is attributed to the increasing structural defect, while at 355nm is due to the combination effect of the increasing structural defect and decreasing band gap energy.

Abstract

The evolution of microstructure and optical properties of TiO2 sculptured thin films under thermal annealing is reported. XRD, field emission SEM, UV-Vis-NIR spectra are employed to characterize the microstructural and optical properties. It is found that the optimum annealing temperature for linear birefringence is 500 degrees C. The maximum of transmission difference for linear birefringence is up to 18%, which is more than twice of that in as-deposited thin films. In addition, the sample annealed at 500 degrees C has a minimum of column angle about 12 degrees C. The competitive process between the microstructural and optical properties is discussed in detail. Post-annealing is a useful method to improve the linear birefringence in sculptured thin films for practical applications.
