This publication is part of an ongoing project which produces bibliographies on family topics. This bibliography, begun in July 1993, is a compilation of selected materials on a type of family violence which receives little attention. When all types of mild aggression and extreme violence toward a sibling are considered, it appears that sibling abuse is the most common and the most overlooked form of family violence. Parents many times accept sibling rivalries as part of family life, but in the last few years, researchers have been investigating lasting deleterious effects of early experiences with sisters and brothers. The annotated entries provided here are divided into four categories: (1) Monographs; (2) Journal Articles; (3) Dissertation; and (4) Newspaper Articles. Annotations range in length from one to five paragraphs. It is hoped that this bibliography will stimulate further empirical research into the causes, dynamics, and effects of sibling abuse. The resources in this annotated bibliography were selected to help readers better understand what is known about adult children living at home. Data on this subject are scarce. The bibliography is a literature review--a State-of-the-Art report--which is applicable to many professionals and students in the social sciences. It was developed by conducting a thorough literature search, reviewing selected monographs and articles, determining which information should appear in the bibliography, and writing the annotations. The first section presents 16 annotations targeted to researchers and educators. Included are annotations of articles, a bibliography, papers, and a telephone interview. Three data tables are also included. The second section presents 11 annotations of newspaper and magazine articles and books targeted to consumers. Sources of additional information, a national organization, and reviewers are listed. (ABL)

This annotated bibliography was created to provide consumers with reliable information to help them promote positive health and well-being of the elderly in their families, communities, and throughout the nation. It is also hoped that the resources in this bibliography can help make a positive impact on consumers' own aging process and transition into the later years. The bibliography includes a compilation of eight separate Pathfinders from the United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library and includes citations in the areas of: (1) adult children; (2) aging parents; (3) family caregiving; (4) family support networks; (5) grandparenting; (6) intergenerational relationships; (7) living arrangements in later life; and (8) sibling relationships in adulthood. Also included are lists of sources of additional information, organizations concerned with issues of aging, and reviewers who helped in the selection of materials to be included in the bibliography. The result of a project funded by the Extension Service of the United States Department of Agriculture called Professional Knowledge and Research Base of Extension 4-H Youth Development (4hprk), this 18-item annotated bibliography represents a compilation of resources (on the topic of communication) most frequently identified by Extension 4-H Youth Development professionals as cornerstones for their educational programs. Topics include interpersonal, group, verbal, presentation, written, nonverbal, and listening skills as well as information technology. Publications listed in the bibliography are accessible electronically (through AGRICOLA, the National Agricultural Library's electronic database) and in hard copy. (SR)
