The commercial exploration of the pear culture in Brazil has little expression, being the internal consumption supplied by imports. The lack of edafoclimatic adaptation of the commercial cultivars of interest andthe flower bud abortion are the main problems for the development of this crop. The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence time and the intensity of the flower bud necrosis in pear trees cv. Housui (Pyrus pyrifolia) during the winter period. The experiment was conducted in 2007, using plants belonging to the orchard of Embrapa Clima Temperado, in Pelotas, RS, Brazil. The buds were collected at five different moments (May 24th, June 20th, July 19th, August 21st, and September 18th), fixed in a solution of formalin, acetic acid and alcohol and dissected under a stereoscopic microscope. The parameters evaluated were the percentages of healthy buds and buds withmoderate and severe necrosis. At the beginning of the winter the symptoms were not present in practically any buds. The buds were seriously affected in the final period of dormancy, when the symptoms began rising from a negligible level to a sharp peak toward the end of the winter. A exploração comercial da cultura da pereira tem pequena expressão no Brasil, sendo o consumo interno provido por meio de importações. A falta de adaptação edafoclimática das cultivares de interesse comercial e oabortamento floral são os principais problemas para o desenvolvimento dessa cultura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a época e a intensidade de ocorrência da necrose floral em gemas de pereira japonesa cultivar Housui (Pyrus pyrifolia) durante o inverno. O experimento foi realizado em 2007, utilizando-se plantas pertencentes à coleção instalada na Embrapa Clima Temperado em Pelotas, RS. Foram coletadas gemas em cinco épocas (24/5, 20/6, 19/7, 21/8 e 18/9), as quais foram fixadas em solução de formol, ácido acético e álcool (FAA) e dissecadas sob um microscópio estereoscópico. Foram avaliadas as percentagens de gemas sadias e com necrose leve e severa. A maioria das gemas não apresentou sintomas de necrose até a metade do inverno. A severidade da necrose se intensificou a partir da metade do inverno, atingindo praticamente todas as gemas no final do período de inverno.

The objetive of this study was to evaluate the effect of Retain® in combination with other chemicals used in orchard management of apple trees, on maturation and pre-harvest drop of ‘Imperial Gala’ apples. During the 2006/07 and 2007/08 growing seasons, seven days before the predicted harvest date, the following treatments were applied: 1)check; 2) Retain® 800g/ha; 3) Retain® 800g/ha + Captan 500PM 4,000g/ha; 4) Retain® 800g/ha + Cercobin 700WP 1,500g/ha; 5) Retain® 800g/ha + Sumithion 500CE 1,500ml/ha; 6) Retain® 800g/ha + calcium chloride 6,000g/ha. None of the treatments evaluated showed symptoms of phytotoxicity. Retain®, when applied in combination with some chemicals used in orchard management of apple trees, showed similar performance both in maturation and in pre-harvest fruitdrop control of ‘Imperial Gala’ apples in relation to the isolated Retain® application, especially for shorter periods than 23 days after harvest. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de Retain®, em associação a outros agroquímicos utilizados no manejo da macieira, sobre a maturação e queda pré-colheita de maçãs ‘Imperial Gala’. Durante os ciclos 2006/07 e 2007/08, aos 7 dias antes do ponto de colheita foram aplicados os seguintes tratamentos: 1) testemunha; 2) Retain® 800g/ha; 3) Retain® 800g/ha + Captan 500PM 4.000g/ha; 4) Retain® 800g/ha + Cercobin 700WP 1.500g/ha; 5) Retain® 800g/ha + Sumithion 500CE 1.500ml/ha; 6) Retain® 800g/ha + cloreto de cálcio 6000g/ha. Não foram verificados sintomas de fitotoxidade em nenhum dos tratamentos avaliados. A aplicação de Retain® associado a alguns dos agroquímicos utilizados no manejo da macieira apresentaram desempenho semelhante à aplicação isolada de Retain® quanto ao controle da maturação e à queda pré-colheita de maçãs ‘Imperial Gala’, sobretudo em períodos inferiores a 23 dias após o ponto de colheita.

Burrknots are aerial root nodules that obstruct the vascularization of apple plants, which can cause depletion of the fruit tree. Usually, the evaluation of the occurrence of this disorder is restricted to the rootstock region. The objective of the study was to develop a scale for the evaluation of the occurrence of burrknots in the apple trees, and to present a practical application of the developed scale. Plants with different intensities of burrknots along the stem and branches were observed, which were classified into five phenotypically distinct groups for this disorder (scale 1 to 5). In the practical application of the scale, 12 segregating populations of apple trees were phenotypically evaluated, which allowed to characterize the individual and average behavior of the progenies, and to identify the parents with greater potential of transmitting this character to their hybrids. The suggested scale was efficient in the evaluation of the occurrence of burrknots in apple trees, demonstrating their applicability in studies with different purposes. Resumo – Os burrknots são nódulos radiculares aéreos que obstruem a vascularização das plantas de macieira, podendo causar o seu defnhamento. Comumente a avaliação da ocorrência desse distúrbio se restringe à região do porta-enxerto. O objetvo do trabalho foi desenvolver uma escala de avaliação da ocorrência de burrknots em plantas copa de macieira, e apresentar uma aplicação prátca da escala desenvolvida. Foram observadas plantas com diferentes intensidades de burrknots ao longo do caule e dos ramos, sendo classifcadas em cinco grupos distntos fenotpicamente (escala de 1 a 5). Na aplicação prátca da escala foram avaliadas fenotpicamente 12 populações segregantes de macieira que permitram caracterizar o comportamento individual e médio das progênies e identfcar os genitores com maior potencial de transmitr esse caráter aos seus híbridos. A escala sugerida foi efciente na avaliação da ocorrência deburrknots em macieira, demonstrando a sua aplicabilidade em estudos com diferentes fnalidades.

‘Gala’ apple trees have low fruit set in restrictive pollination situations, being an obstacle to the achievement of high production rates in orchards in southern Brazil, which can be minimized by the use of growth regulators. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of thidiazuron concentrations in ‘Royal Gala’ apple fruiting and production, grown in mild winter conditions. The experiment was conducted during the 2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 crop years in Fraiburgo, SC, on ‘Royal Gala’ apple trees in Marubakaido rootstock M9 with filter. In all evaluation cycles, the experimental design was a randomized block with factorial arrangement (6x2) with six TDZ concentrations and two application forms, with six replicates, and the experimental unit consisting of one plant. The TDZ concentrations of each treatment were applied split into two seasons. The first application was performed on pink bud stage (E2) and the second application was in full bloom stage (F2). The variables evaluated were: fruit set (%), return bloom (%), number and weight of fruits per plant, mean fruit weight (g) and average number of seeds per fruit. Data were submitted to analysis of variance, in which for significant variables by the F test, analysis of contrast and polynomial regression were performed in order to evaluate the response of variables with increasing TDZ concentration. TDZ is effective even at low concentrations, increasing the production and fruit set of ‘Gala’ apples in the climatic conditions of southern Brazil. RESUMO Macieiras ‘Gala’ apresentam baixa frutificação efetiva em situações de cultivo restritivas à polinização, sendo um entrave à obtenção de altos índices produtivos em pomares do Sul do Brasil, o qual pode ser minimizado pelo uso de fitorreguladores. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de concentrações de tidiazuron na frutificação e na produção de frutos de macieira ‘Royal Gala’, cultivadas em condições de inverno ameno. O experimento foi conduzido durante os ciclos de 2011/2012, 2012/2013 e 2013/2014, em Fraiburgo-SC, em macieiras ‘Royal Gala’, em porta-enxerto Marubakaido com filtro de M9. Em todos os ciclos de avaliação, o delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com esquema fatorial (6x2), com seis concentrações de TDZ e duas formas de aplicação, com seis repetições, sendo a unidade experimental composta por uma planta. As concentrações de TDZ respectivas a cada tratamento foram aplicadas parceladamente em duas épocas. A primeira aplicação foi realizada no estádio de balão rosado (E2), e a segunda aplicação, no estádio de plena floração (F2). Foram avaliadas as variáveis frutificação efetiva (%), retorno de floração (%), número e massa fresca (kg) de frutos por planta, massa fresca média de frutos (g) e número médio de sementes por fruto. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância, em que, para as variáveis significativas pelo teste F, foi realizada a análise de contrastes e de regressão polinomial com a finalidade de avaliar a resposta das variáveis com o aumento da concentração. O TDZ é efetivo, mesmo em baixas concentrações, no aumento da produção e na frutificação efetiva de macieira nas condições climáticas do Sul do Brasil.

A utilização de práticas culturais que permitam programar a época de produção é fundamental para a exploração da cultura da atemoleira em clima tropical. Em determinados tipos de clima, associada a outras técnicas culturais, a desfolha permite induzir a brotação das gemas de atemoleira, podendo controlar a época de produção da cultura. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar diferentes tratamentos de desfolha para a indução da brotação de atemoleiras sob condições tropicais. O experimento foi realizado em cultivo comercial localizado no município de Limoeiro do Norte-CE, utilizando atemoleiras 'Gefner' com cinco anos de idade, enxertadas sob o porta-enxerto de pinha. Cerca de dez dias após a colheita, realizou-se a poda de produção e, em seguida, aplicaram-se os tratamentos: 1) testemunha (sem aplicação da desfolha); 2) desfolha manual; 3) ureia 150 g L-1; 4) ureia 150 g L-1 + óleo mineral 24 mL L-1; 5) ureia 150 g L-1 + sulfato de cobre 10 g L-1; 6) sulfato de cobre 10 g L-1 +óleo mineral 24 mL L-1; 7) ureia 150 g L-1 + óleo mineral 24 mL L-1 + sulfato de cobre 10 g L-1; 8) etefom 2,4 mL L-1. Todos os tratamentos químicos testados induziram a desfolha e a brotação, sobretudo as aplicações foliares de etefom 2,4 mL L-1 e combinação de sulfato de cobre 10 g L-1 + óleo mineral 24 mL L-1. The use of cultural practices that allows production scheduling of atemoyas trees is for exploration of this crop. The shoot defoliation induces budbreak of atemoyas in certain weather conditions, with other cultural techniques, may control the production times. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate different defoliation treatments on budbreak induction of atemoyas trees growing at tropical conditions. The experiment was conducted in a commercial orchard located in Limoeiro do Norte/CE, Brazil, using five years old atemoya trees 'Gefner', grafted on sugar apple rootstock. Thereabout ten days after harvest was held pruning production and then applied the treatments: 1) control (without defoliation); 2) hand defoliation, 3) urea 150 g L-1; 4) urea 150 g L-1 + mineral oil 24 ml L-1; 5) urea 150 g L-1 + copper sulfate 10 g L-1; 6) copper sulfate 10 g L-1 + mineral oil 24 ml L-1; 7) urea 150 g L-1 + mineral oil 24 ml L-1 + copper sulfate 10 g L-1; and 8) ethephon 2.4 mL L-1. All chemical treatments tested induced defoliation and budbreak of 'Gefner' atemoya trees, especially foliar applications of ethephon 2.4 mL L-1 and combination of copper sulfate at 10 g L-1 plus mineral oil at 24 ml L-1.

Temperature is the main climate factor related to induction, maintenance and dormancy release in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.). The inadequate chilling exposure in apples causes budbreak problems, resulting in decrease in yield potential. Thus, the knowledge of physiological principles and environmental factors determining the dormancy phenomenon, especially winter temperature effects, it is necessary for the efficient selection of cultivars in a productive region. In addition, it is indispensable to adapt the orchard management aiming to decrease the problems caused by lack chilling during winter. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different thermal conditions during the dormancy period on budbreak of apple cultivars. One-year-old twigs of 'Castel Gala' and 'Royal Gala' cultivars, grafted on M7 rootstock, were submitted to temperatures of 5, 10 and 15ºC for different exposure periods (168; 336; 672; 1,008 and 1,344 hours). After treatments execution, the plants were kept in a greenhouse at 25ºC. Budbreak was quantified when accumulated 3,444; 6,888; 10,332; 13,776; 17,220 and 20,664 GDHºC after temperature treatments. The cultivars responded differently to temperature effect during the winter period. The temperature of 15ºC during winter shows a greater effectiveness on 'Castel Gala' apple budbreak while in the 'Royal Gala' apples the temperatures of 5 and 10ºC show better performance. 'Castel Gala' cultivar (low chilling requirement) may supply its physiological necessities, may be capable to budburst, even when subjected to higher temperatures in relation to 'Royal Gala' apples (high chilling requirement). A temperatura é o principal fator ambiental relacionado à indução, manutenção e superação da dormência da macieira (Malus domestica Borkh.). O inadequado suprimento em frio para esta espécie determina a ocorrência de problemas relacionados à brotação, repercutindo na diminuição do potencial produtivo. Dessa forma, o conhecimento dos princípios fisiológicos e dos fatores ambientais determinantes no fenômeno da dormência, sobretudo o efeito das temperaturas hibernais, faz-se necessário para a eficiente seleção de cultivares em determinada região produtora, assim como para eficiente elaboração e adequação de práticas culturais para minimização de problemas causados pelo insuficiente acúmulo de frio hibernal. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de diferentes condições térmicas durante o período de dormência na brotação de gemas de cultivares de macieira. Ramos de um ano das cultivares Castel Gala e Royal Gala, enxertadas no porta-enxertos M7, foram submetidas às temperaturas de 5; 10 e 15ºC, durante diferentes períodos de exposição (168; 336; 672; 1.008 e 1.344 horas). Após a efetivação dos tratamentos, as plantas foram mantidas em casa de vegetação a 25ºC. A brotação foi quantificada quando acumulada soma térmica de 3.444; 6.888; 10.332; 13.776; 17.220 e 20.664 GDHºC após os tratamentos térmicos. As cultivares estudadas responderam diferentemente às temperaturas durante o período hibernal. A temperatura de 15ºC apresentou maior efetividade na brotação de gemas da cultivar Castel Gala, enquanto as temperaturas de 5 e 10ºC apresentaram melhor desempenho na cultivar Royal Gala. A cultivar Castel Gala (menor requerimento em frio) pode suprir suas necessidades fisiológicas, sendo capaz de brotar, mesmo quando submetida a temperaturas mais altas em comparação a macieiras Royal Gala.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo e a capacidade produtiva de pereiras 'Hosui', em resposta ao uso de prohexadiona cálcio, nas condições climáticas do Sul do Brasil. Foram aplicadas diferentes doses de prohexadiona cálcio (0, 275, 550, e 825 g ha-1) em pereiras com 11 anos de idade, enxertadas sobre Pyrus calleryana. O uso de prohexadiona cálcio foi efetivo no controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo das pereiras 'Hosui' e reduziu a necessidade de poda hibernal, pela redução da massa total e do número de ramos podados. O controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo, pelo uso de prohexadiona cálcio, favorece o aumento da capacidade produtiva de pereiras 'Hosui', principalmente à concentração de 550 g ha-1. The objective of this work was to evaluate the vegetative growth control and fruit production capacity of 'Hosui' pear, in response to prohexadione calcium use in Southern Brazil climate conditions. Different concentrations of prohexadione calcium (0, 275, 550, and 825 g ha-1) were applied on eleven-year-old 'Hosui' pear trees grafted on Pyrus calleryana rootstock. The use of prohexadione calcium was effective in controlling the vegetative growth of 'Hosui' pears and decreased winter pruning, by reducing total weight and number of pruned shoots. The control of vegetative growth, by prohexadione calcium use, favors the increase of fruit production capacity of 'Hosui' pears, mainly at 550 g ha-1 concentration.

Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a aclimatização e o crescimento de plântulas micropropagadas de mirtileiro (Vaccinium ashei) cv. Climax, em função do substrato e da cobertura plástica, durante os meses de abril a dezembro de 2008. Foram utilizados três substratos (casca de arroz carbonizada + Húmus Fértil®, Plantmax® + vermiculita e solo + serragem jovem de Pínus) e dois sistemas de cobertura (com e sem cobertura plástica sobre as plântulas). As plântulas, acondicionadas em sacos plásticos com os respectivos substratos e sistemas de cobertura, permaneceram em casa de vegetação com temperatura controlada, por 30 dias. Após, permaneceram por 60 dias sem controle ambiental e, em seguida, foram transferidas para telado. A partir de 30 dias, foram avaliados a percentagem de sobrevivência e o incremento de altura das plântulas. Ao término do experimento, foi avaliada a massa fresca e seca da parte aérea e da raiz das plântulas. A percentagem de sobrevivência das plântulas de mirtileiro em substrato Plantmax® + vermiculita é igual quando utilizada ou não a cobertura plástica. O uso da cobertura plástica não foi eficiente para incrementar a altura média das plântulas nos substratos Plantmax® + vermiculita e solo + serragem jovem. A maior massa seca de parte aérea foi obtida com o uso de Plantmax® + vermiculita sem cobertura plástica sobre as plântulas. Plantmax® + vermiculita com e sem cobertura plástica proporcionam maior massa seca radicular que os demais substratos e respectivos sistemas de cobertura, porém Plantmax® + vermiculita sem cobertura plástica é superior a Plantmax® + vermiculita com cobertura plástica. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, conclui-se que o melhor substrato e sistema de cobertura para a aclimatização e o crescimento de plântulas de mirtileiro 'Climax' são Plantmax® + vermiculita sem cobertura plástica. This word aimed to evaluate the acclimatization and growth of micropropagated blueberry plants (Vaccinium ashei) cv. Climax according substrate and plastic covering, from April to December 2008. Three substrates (carbonized rice hull + Húmus Fértil®, Plantmax® + vermiculite and soil + young saw of Pinus) and two covering systems (with or without plastic covering on plants) were used. Plants were put into plastic bags with the respective substrates and covering systems and then located in greenhouse at controlled temperature during 30 days. Following this, they were located in non-controlled environmental for 60 days, so then transferred to a nethouse. After 30 days, it was measured the surviving percentage and the increment of plant height. At the experiment conclusion fresh and dry weigth of aerial part and root of the plants were measured. The surviving percentage of blueberry plants in Plantmax® + vermiculite did not show difference when comparing the use or non-use of plastic covering. The use of plastic covering was not efficient to increase plant height when using the substrates Plantmax® + vermiculite and soil + young saw. Higher dry weigth of aerial part was obtained by using Plantmax® + vermiculite without plastic covering on plants. Plantmax® + vermiculite with or without plastic covering promoted more dry weight of root than other substrates independent covering; however, Plantmax® + vermiculite without plastic covering is superior to Plantmax® + vermiculite with no covering. According results, the best substrate and covering system to the acclimatization and growth of blueberry plants 'Climax' are Plantmax® + vermiculite without plastic covering.

The objectives of this study was to evaluate the Rhizobium inoculation effect on the grain yield characters in common bean cultivars, to quantify the possible relationship between these characters, and verify the genetic similarity among cultivars to suggest possible combinations to be adopted in crosses by breeding programs. It was evaluated six commercial common bean cultivars (IAPAR 81, Carioca, SCS-202 Guará, BRS Valente, FTS Soberano e IPR Uirapuru), with and without inoculation of Rhizobium bacteria. The experimental design was randomized block design with four replications, in factorial arrangement (6x2), with six cultivars and two inoculation levels. Each plot had six rows with three meters in length and 0.50 meters between rows, with 4 m2 plot. The yield components traits in common bean, under the conditions of this study, do not show to be influenced by Rhizobium’s inoculation. The number of grains per pod has a relation with the definition of yield per area in commercial common bean cultivars, while the numbers of pods and grains per plant showed strong positive correlation with grain yield per plant. The SCS-202 Guará, FTS Soberano e IPR Uirapuru cultivars show high grain yield, characterizing potential parents to be adopted in bean breeding programs. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar o efeito da inoculação com Rhizobium sobre os caracteres de rendimento de grãos em cultivares comerciais de feijoeiro, quantificar as possíveis relações entre estes caracteres, e verificar a similaridade genética entre as cultivares avaliadas a fim de sugerir possíveis genitores para compor combinações promissoras a serem adotadas em cruzamentos artificiais pelos programas de melhoramento. Foram avaliadas seis cultivares comerciais de feijoeiro (IAPAR 81, Carioca, SCS-202 Guará, BRS Valente, FTS Soberano e IPR Uirapuru), com e sem a inoculação de bactérias do gênero Rhizobium. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, onde os tratamentos foram combinados em esquema fatorial (6 x 2), sendo seis cultivares e dois níveis de inoculação. Cada parcela foi constituída por seis linhas de três metros de comprimento espaçadas em 0,50 m, com área útil de 4m2. Os componentes do rendimento de grãos em feijoeiro, nas condições de realização deste estudo, não mostram ser influenciadas pela inoculação com Rhizobium. O caráter número de grãos por legume apresenta relação positiva com a definição da produtividade de grãos por área em cultivares comerciais de feijoeiro, enquanto que os números de legumes e de grãos por planta evidenciam forte correlação positivas com a produção de grãos por planta. A cultivar BRS Valente apresenta maior dissimilaridade genética no grupo de genótipos avaliados. As cultivares SCS-202 Guará, FTS Soberano e IPR Uirapuru evidenciam elevado rendimento de grãos, caracterizando genitores potenciais a serem adotados em programas de melhoramento do feijoeiro.

O efeito de aminoetoxivinilglicine (AVG), comercialmente disponível com o nome de Retain®, foi avaliado em macieiras da cultivar Fuji Suprema durante quatro ciclos agrícolas. Foram estudadas a época de aplicação e a concentração em uma ou em múltiplas aplicações, visando a avaliar o efeito no retardamento da maturação dos frutos, queda pré-colheita dos frutos, produção de frutos, massa média de frutos, resistência da polpa, conteúdo de sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, índice de iodo-amido, cor da epiderme dos frutos, incidência de pingo-de-mel, incidência de rachadura peduncular e danos de sol. O AVG foi aplicado uma, duas, quatro semanas antes do ponto de colheita e no ponto de colheita, em concentrações variando de 60 a 120 g ha-1. Todos os tratamentos retardaram a maturação dos frutos, sendo que aplicados duas e uma semana antes do ponto de colheita concentraram a mesma na última data de colheita. O atraso da maturação foi acompanhado da manutenção da resistência da polpa e degradação do amido. A massa média dos frutos aumentou significativamente em comparação ao tratamento-testemunha. O desenvolvimento da coloração vermelha dos frutos foi retardado proporcionalmente ao atraso da maturação. As aplicações de AVG com diferentes concentrações e épocas de aplicação em uma ou duas vezes não diferiram entre si quanto à queda de frutos em pré-colheita na cultivar Fuji, contudo todos os tratamentos com AVG foram significativamente inferiores ao tratamento-testemunha. The effect of Aminoethoxyvinylglicine (AVG), available commercially as Retain®, was evaluated in Fuji Suprema apples during four growing seasons. The application time and the concentration of AVG in a single or multiple sprays were studied to evaluate the effect of AVG on fruit ripening delay, preharvest drop control, fruit production, mean fruit weight, fruit firmness, soluble solids, total iodine-starch, fruit skin color, 'water core' incidence, fruit crack and sun scald incidence. The AVG was applied one, two, four weeks before the harvest point and at harvest time in concentrations ranging from 60 to 120 g ha-1. All treatments delayed fruit ripening, and applied twice and one week before the harvest point concentrated on the same harvest date. The maturation delay was accompanied by the maintenance of firmness and starch degradation. The mean fruit weight increased significantly compared to the control treatment. The development of fruit red color was delayed in proportion to the maturation delay. The AVG applications with different concentrations and application times in one or two times did not differ in relation to fruit drop before harvest in 'Fuji' apples, but all treatments with AVG were significantly lower than the control treatment.

In this sense, control of vegetative growth and frutification increase are needed in the management of these species, which may be obtained by use of growth regulators. The objective of this study was to evaluate the control of vegetative growth and frutification increase of apple and pear orchards in the Southern Brazil climatic conditions in response to the use of growth regulators. For this, three experiments were carried out in this research. In the first experiment, different concentrations of prohexadione calcium were evaluated in 'Imperial Gala' and 'Fuji Suprema' apple trees, grafted on Marubakaido rootstock with M9 interstock, in an orchard located in Fraiburgo/SC. The treatments (0, 165, 330, 495, 660, and 990 g ha-1 prohexadione calcium) were applied during the vegetative growth in 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 growing seasons. The concentrations corresponding to each treatment were applied split into three parts. The first application was done when the shoots of the control treatment showed growth of 10 cm. The second and third applications were made at 30 and 60 days after the first application, respectively. The prohexadione calcium was effective in controlling vegetative growth of apple trees 'Imperial Gala' and 'Fuji Suprema', reducing the total weight and average weight of pruned shoots, as well as the average shoot length, in the Southern Brazil climatic conditions. The use of prohexadione calcium at concentrations ranging from 165 to 330 g ha-1 increased the fruit production of 'Imperial Gala' apples, but high concentrations of this growth regulator tends to reduce the fruit production, especially in 'Fuji Suprema' apples. The reduction of vegetative growth by the use of prohexadione calcium contributed to increase calcium content in fruits of 'Fuji Suprema'. The second experiment was carried out in Pelotas/RS, using 'Hosui' pears grafted on Pyrus calleryana rootstock. Different 8 concentrations of prohexadione calcium were evaluated (0, 275, 550, and 825 g ha- 1), being half the concentration corresponding to each treatment applied when the shoots had between 5 to 10 cm in length, and the remainder applied 30 days after the first application. The use of prohexadione calcium was effective in controlling the vegetative growth of 'Hosui' pears, decreasing the need for winter pruning by reducing the total weight and the number of shoots pruned. The control of vegetative growth by use of prohexadione calcium determined increase the productive capacity of 'Hosui pears, especially at concentrations ranging from 450 to 750 g ha-1. The aim of the third experiment was to evaluate the effectiveness of thidiazuron, gibberellic acid, prohexadione calcium and combination of these substances on frutification increase of 'Shinseiki' asian pears. The following treatments were applied at full bloom: 1. control (no application); 2. thidiazuron (TDZ) 20 mg L-1; 3. gibberellic acid (GA) 20 mg L-1; 4. prohexadione calcium (PCa) 600 mg L-1; 5. PCa 600 mg L-1 + TDZ 20 mg L-1; 6. PCa 600 mg L-1 + AG 20 mg L-1; e 7. AG 20 mg L-1 + TDZ 20 mg L-1. The application thidiazuron at 20 mg L-1, gibberellic acid at 20 mg L-1 and the combination of these substances during the full bloom increased significantly the frutification and the fruit production of 'Shinseiki' pears. The prohexadione calcium, when sprayed at flowering alone or in combination to thidiazuron and gibberellic acid, was not effective to increase the fruit set and fruit production. The use of growth regulators on flowering decreased the number of seeds per fruit. O adequado balanço entre o desenvolvimento vegetativo e a frutificação em espécies pomáceas, como a macieira e a pereira, é fundamental ao aumento da eficiência produtiva e a melhoria da qualidade dos frutos. Neste sentido, o controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo e o aumento da frutificação são necessários no manejo de tais espécies, podendo ser obtidos pelo uso de fitorreguladores. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar o controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo e o aumento da frutificação de macieiras e de pereiras nas condições climáticas do Sul do Brasil em resposta ao uso de fitorreguladores. Para tanto, foram realizados três experimentos. No primeiro experimento, foram avaliadas diferentes concentrações de proexadione cálcio em macieiras Imperial Gala e Fuji Suprema , enxertadas no porta-enxerto Marubakaido com interenxerto de M9, em pomar localizado em Fraiburgo/SC. Os tratamentos (0; 165; 330; 495; 660; e 990 g ha-1 de proexadione cálcio) foram aplicados durante o período de desenvolvimento vegetativo nos ciclos 2008/2009 e 2009/2010. As concentrações respectivas a cada tratamento foram aplicadas parceladamente em três momentos. A primeira aplicação foi realizada quando as brotações do tratamento testemunha apresentavam crescimento de 10 cm. A segunda e a terceira aplicação foram realizadas aos 30 e 60 dias após a primeira aplicação, respectivamente. O proexadione cálcio foi eficiente no controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo de macieiras Imperial Gala e Fuji Suprema , reduzindo a massa total e a massa média de ramos, assim como o comprimento médio dos ramos, nas condições climáticas do Sul do Brasil. O uso de proexadione cálcio em concentrações variando de 165 a 330 g ha-1 aumentou a produção de maçãs Imperial Gala , porém altas concentrações deste fitorregulador tendem a reduzir a produção de frutos por planta, sobretudo em macieiras Fuji Suprema . A redução do desenvolvimento vegetativo pelo uso do proexadione cálcio contribuiu 6 para o aumento dos teores de cálcio em maçãs Fuji Suprema . O segundo experimento foi realizado no município de Pelotas/RS, utilizando pereiras Hosui enxertadas no porta-enxerto Pyrus calleryana. Foram avaliadas diferentes concentrações de proexadione cálcio (0; 275; 550; e 825 g ha-1), sendo metade da concentração respectiva a cada tratamento aplicada quando as brotações apresentavam entre 5 a 10 cm de comprimento, e o restante aplicado 30 dias após a primeira aplicação. O uso de proexadione cálcio foi efetivo no controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo de pereiras Hosui , minimizando a necessidade de poda hibernal pela redução da massa total e do número de ramos podados. O controle do desenvolvimento vegetativo pelo uso de proexadione cálcio determinou aumento da capacidade produtiva de pereiras Hosui , sobretudo em concentrações de 450 a 750 g ha-1. O objetivo do terceiro experimento foi avaliar a efetividade do thidiazuron, ácido giberélico, proexadione cálcio e a combinação destas substâncias no aumento da frutificação de pereiras asiáticas Shinseiki . Os seguintes tratamentos foram aplicados na plena floração: 1. testemunha (sem aplicação); 2. thidiazuron (TDZ) 20 mg L-1; 3. ácido giberélico (AG) 20 mg L-1; 4. proexadione cálcio (PCa) 600 mg L-1; 5. PCa 600 mg L-1 + TDZ 20 mg L-1; 6. PCa 600 mg L-1 + AG 20 mg L-1; e 7. AG 20 mg L-1 + TDZ 20 mg L-1. A aplicação de thidiazuron 20 mg L-1, ácido giberélico 20 mg L-1 e a combinação destas substâncias durante a plena floração aumentaram significativamente a frutificação e a produção de pereiras Shinseiki . O proexadione cálcio, quando aplicado na floração isoladamente ou em combinação ao thidiazuron e ao ácido giberélico, não se mostrou efetivo no aumento da frutificação e na produção de frutos. A utilização dos fitorreguladores na floração diminuiu o número médio de sementes por fruto.

The inadequate chilling exposure for this species causes the occurrence of budbreak problems, resulting in decrease in yield potential. Thus, the knowledge of physiological principles and environmental factors determining the dormancy phenomenon, especially winter temperature effects, it is necessary for the cultivars efficient selection in a productive region. Similarly cultural practices can be developed and adapted to minimize the problems cause by lack chilling during winter. The budbreak promoters application is one of main management s strategies used to decrease the problems of insufficient winter chilling on temperate fruit trees. Because the influence of budbreak promoters on plant s productive behavior, detecting this effects along of productive season became important. This study aimed to evaluate the budbreak and depth dormancy of apple cultivars exposed to different chilling conditions during the winter, and evaluate the apple productive response by budbreak promoters application. For this, three experiments were carried out in this research. In the first experiment, one-yearold twigs of Castel Gala and Royal Gala cultivars, grafted on M7 rootstock, were submitted to temperatures of 5, 10 and 15 C for different exposure periods (168, 336, 672, 1008 and 1344 hours). After treatments execution, the plants were kept in a greenhouse at 25ºC. Budbreak was quantified when accumulated 3444, 6888, 10332, 13776, 17220 and 20664 GDHºC after temperature treatments. The cultivars responded differently to temperature effect during the winter period. The temperature of 15 °C showed greater effectiveness on Castel Gala budbreak, while temperatures of 5 and 10ºC showed better performance in Royal Gala apple trees. It was not possible to estimate chilling requirement of cultivars studied through autumn grafted twigs, because the low budbreak obtained, derived of high apical dominance expressed by apple tree in this evaluation system. The objective of the second experiment was to evaluate the dormancy progression of apple cultivars with different chilling requirements. One-year-old twigs of Castel Gala , Condessa , Daiane , Fuji , Imperatriz and Royal Gala cultivars were exposed to 0, 336, 672, 1008 and 1344 chilling units at 4.5 ± 0.5 º C. After chilling exposure, the twigs were segmented into four cuttings (terminal, axillary superior, axillary median and axillary basal) and placed in growth chamber at 23±1ºC. The depth dormancy was measured by the mean time of budbreak (MTB). Through the method was not possible to group the cultivars according chilling requirement, indicating that correlation between the depth dormancy and chilling requirement isn t observed for all apple cultivars. In the third experiment were evaluated different hydrogen cyanamide and mineral oil combinations on phenology, budbreak and fruit production of Imperial Gala and Suprema s Fuji apple trees, during 2007/2008 growing season. Five budbreak promoters treatments were tested (1. control; 2. mineral oil 3.2%; 3. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.20%; 4. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.39%; 5. mineral oil 3.2% + hydrogen cyanamide 0.59%). The budbreak promoters application anticipated and reduced the blooming period, increasing the blooming overlap between Imperial Gala and Suprema´s Fuji cultivars. The budbreak promoters equalized and increased the budbreak in axillary and terminal buds, with the major budbreak level observed in Imperial Gala cultivar with 0.44% of hydrogen cyanamide and 3.2% of mineral oil treatment. The increase of hydrogen cyanamide concentration showed the tendency to decrease the fruit set. It was observed different treatment responses on production and mean fruit weight, probably to be related to fruit production predominance in different fructification structures. A temperatura é o principal fator climático relacionado a indução, manutenção e superação da dormência na macieira (Malus domestica Borkh.). O inadequado suprimento em frio para esta espécie determina a ocorrência de problemas relacionados a brotação, repercutindo na diminuição do potencial produtivo. Dessa forma, o conhecimento dos princípios fisiológicos e dos fatores ambientais determinantes no fenômeno da dormência, sobretudo o efeito das temperaturas hibernais, faz-se necessário para a eficiente seleção de cultivares em determinada região produtora, assim como para eficiente elaboração e adequação de práticas culturais para minimização dos problemas oriundos do insuficiente acúmulo de frio hibernal. A aplicação de indutores de brotação é uma das principais estratégias de manejo utilizadas para minimizar os problemas da falta de frio em frutíferas de clima temperado. Em razão da influência dos indutores de brotação sobre a resposta produtiva das plantas, a mensuração de seus efeitos ao longo do ciclo produtivo torna-se importante. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a brotação e profundidade de dormência de cultivares de macieira frente a diferentes condições de exposição ao frio durante o período hibernal, e avaliar a resposta produtiva de macieiras frente à aplicação de indutores de brotação. Para tanto, foram realizados três experimentos. No primeiro experimento, ramos de um ano das cultivares Castel Gala e Royal Gala, enxertadas no porta-enxerto M7, foram submetidos as temperaturas de 5, 10 e 15ºC durante diferentes períodos de exposição (168; 336; 672; 1008 e 1344 horas). Após a efetivação dos tratamentos, as plantas foram mantidas em casa de vegetação a 25ºC. A brotação foi quantificada quando acumulada soma térmica de 3444, 6888, 10332, 13776, 17220 e 20664 GDHºC após tratamentos térmicos. As cultivares estudadas responderam diferentemente as temperaturas durante o período hibernal. A temperatura de 15ºC apresentou maior efetividade na brotação de gemas da cultivar Castel Gala, enquanto as temperaturas de 5 e 10ºC apresentaram melhor desempenho na cultivar Royal Gala. Não foi possível estimar o requerimento em frio das cultivares estudadas através do uso de ramos enxertados no outono, visto os baixos percentuais de brotação obtidos, decorrentes da alta dominância apical apresentada pela macieira neste sistema de avaliação. O objetivo do segundo experimento foi avaliar a dinâmica da dormência em cultivares com diferentes requerimentos em frio. Ramos de um ano das cultivares Castel Gala, Condessa, Daiane, Fuji, Imperatriz e Royal Gala foram expostos a 0, 336, 672, 1008 e 1344 unidades de frio a 4,5±0,5ºC. Após a exposição ao frio, os ramos foram segmentados em quatro estacas (terminal, axilar superior, axilar mediana e axilar inferior) e colocados em câmara de crescimento à 23±1ºC. A profundidade de dormência foi avaliada pelo tempo médio para brotação das gemas (TMB). Através do método utilizado não foi possível agrupar as cultivares segundo o requerimento em frio, indicando que a correlação entre a profundidade de dormência e o requerimento em frio não é valida para todas as cultivares de macieira. No terceiro experimento foram avaliadas diferentes combinações de cianamida hidrogenada e óleo mineral sobre a fenologia, brotação de gemas e produção de frutos em macieiras Imperial Gala e Fuji Suprema , durante o ciclo 2007/2008. Foram testados cinco níveis de indutor de brotação (1. testemunha; 2. óleo mineral 3,2%; 3. óleo mineral 3,2% + cianamida hidrogenada 0,20%; 4. óleo mineral 3,2% + cianamida hidrogenada 0,39%; 5. óleo mineral 3,2% + cianamida hidrogenada 0,59%). A aplicação dos indutores de brotação antecipou e reduziu o período de florescimento, aumentando a coincidência de florescimento das cultivares Imperial Gala e Fuji Suprema. Os indutores de brotação uniformizaram e aumentaram a brotação de gemas axilares e terminais, obtendo-se máxima brotação na cultivar Imperial Gala com 0,44% de cianamida hidrogenada e 3,2% de óleo mineral. O aumento da concentração de cianamida hidrogenada apresentou a tendência de diminuir a frutificação efetiva. Observaram-se respostas diferenciadas entre tratamentos quanto à produção e a massa média dos frutos, podendo ser atribuídas ao predomínio da produção de frutos em distintas estruturas de frutificação.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) As fruteiras de clima temperado, como as macieiras, apresentam como uma das principais fases no ciclo produtivo a dormência. A principal característica do local de cultivo que influencia diretamente a entrada e saída da dormência é a quantidade e qualidade de frio. Quando cultivada em locais que apresentem frio insuficiente, as plantas apresentam floração e brotação desuniformes, além de redução da área foliar e baixo potencial produtivo pela diminuição da formação e manutenção de estruturas florais. O objetivo do trabalho foi estudar o comportamento da planta, em relação a dinâmica de dormência e a formação de estruturas florais e vegetativas em diferentes ambientes, e a influência das temperaturas em eventos fenológicos. O estudo foi realizado na região de Palmas – PR, no pomar Lovo, a 1140 m de altitude,com as cultivares Eva, Galaxy e Fuji Suprema, e no pomar Horizonte, a 1310 m de altitude, com as cultivares Galaxy e Fuji Suprema. Foi realizado, durante os anos2018, 2019 e 2020, quinzenalmente, o teste de nós isolados para determinar o tempo médio de brotação (TMB). Foram utilizados as datas de início de floração dos anos de 2012 a 2020 para correlacioná-las com as temperaturas médias diárias durante o ano, com a metodologia de Partial Least Squares (PLS). No outono de2019 e 2020 foram avaliadas as brotações de ramos marcados no inverno anterior,para entender os tipos de brotações que ocorrem em cada porção dos ramos, em cada cultivar e local. Foi observado que a cultivar Gala responde a mudança do ambiente em sua dinâmica de dormência, com aumento de profundidade e com maior velocidade de entrada e saída em local com condições mais frias e mais homogêneas de temperatura. A cultivar Eva não demonstrou ter endodormência profunda, ao contrário das cultivares Gala e Fuji. A data de início de floração é controlada tanto pelas temperaturas na fase de resfriamento quanto na fase de forçagem. A produção de brindilas e esporões laterais é maior no pomar Horizonte,pomar com melhor acumulação de frio, porém as plantas do pomar do Lovo, quea presenta menor acúmulo de frio, apresentam maior número total de esporões, pela característica de compensar a baixa brotação lateral com a formação de estruturas bourse-over-bourse, mantendo seu potencial produtivo. Além disso, as plantas no pomar do Horizonte formam brindilas mais longas que no pomar do Lovo. Temperate fruit trees, such as apple trees, present dormancy as one of the mainphases in their production cycle. The main characteristics of the cultivation site thatdirectly influences the entry and exit of dormancy are the quantity and quality of chill.When grown in a location with a low quantity and quality of chill, the plants showheterogeneous flowering and budding, and reduced leaf area and productivity,potentially due to decreasing formation and maintenance of floral structures. Theobjective of the work was to study the behavior of the plant, in relation to itsdormancy dynamics and the formation of floral and vegetative structures at differentaltitudes, and to study the influence of temperatures on phenological events. Thestudy was carried out in the region of Palmas – PR, at the Lovo orchard, altitude of1140 m, with the cultivars Eva, Galaxy and Fuji Suprema, and at the Horizonteorchard, altitude of 1310 m, with the cultivars Galaxy and Fuji Suprema. During theyears 2018, 2019 and 2020, the isolated node test was performed biweekly todetermine the mean time of budburst (MTB). The early flowering dates from 2012 to2020 were used to correlate with the average daily temperatures during the year,using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) methodology. In the fall of 2019 and 2020,shoots of branches marked in the previous winter were evaluated to understand thetypes of shoots that occur in each portion of the branches, for each cultivar andlocation. The dormancy dynamics of the Gala cultivar were observed to respond toenvironmental changes, through an increased depth of dormancy and a greaterspeed of entry and exit of dormancy, in a location with cooler and morehomogeneous temperature conditions. Deep endodormancy was not observed inEva, unlike the cultivars Gala and Fuji. The early flowering date is controlled by bothtemperature during the chilling phase and the forcing phase. The production ofbranches and lateral spurs was higher in the Horizonte orchard, with a better chillaccumulation, however the plants of Lovo orchard, which had less chill accumulation,had a higher total number of spurs, due to compensation for low lateral sproutingthrough the formation of bourse-over-bourse structures, which maintained theproductive potential. In addition, the plants in the Horizonte orchard formed longerbranches than those in the Lovo orchard.
