International audience; During the 18th century, the expression of multisensory content by means of music has been very popular amongst composers and the audience. This way of musical painting was mainly applied within vocal compositions, but also for instrumental works. Its plausibility has already been discussed during that time, with a focus on aesthetical criteria. Literature contains a variety of analytic approaches regarding visual references composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, Antonio Vivaldi, and many others. Visual references increased the stimulation of emotions within opera music and the intended clearness of religious lyrics. Furthermore, the audible imitation of nature gained increasing importance. With view to the high frequency of occurrence of visual references it can be concluded that these multisensory connections were well accepted not only by the experts but by the majority of the listeners. Today, it is suitable to approach this topic from the perspective of perceptual phenomenology. The contribution discusses light, color and movement as important crossmodal elements of Baroque music. In particular, the musical expressions of lightning and thunder will be analysed.

International audience; Advances in vehicle sound optimization and use of innovative powertrain concepts change the vehicle interior towards an notably quiet environment. In combination with increased autonomous vehicle functionality, this enables enhanced driving comfort and extended usability. The vehicle interior has the potential to provide the ambience of a living room. Nonetheless, the quiet car will still feature a variety of sounds. Auditory feedback of the various functions is still needed. Sounds generated by touching surfaces during haptic activity will be more clearly audible. The same applies to switch sounds. Furthermore, sounds excited by body movement when clothes are rubbing over seat surfaces gain attention. This contribution addresses concepts of sound design within a quiet vehicle interior. Adjustment of the perceived intensity of auditory signals is required to assign sounds to foreground functions which need immediately attention, or to merge soft sound into a background of less importance. How can material touch sounds be optimized? How can sound properties be adapted to the multi-sensory appearance of the vehicle interior? How can soft sounds contribute to a comfortable, still lively ambience?

Im Wintersemester 1911/1912 wurde an der Technischen Hochschule Hannover die Versuchsanstalt für technische Moorverwertung ins Leben gerufen und dem Lehrstuhl für Chemie zugeordnet. Die Versuchsanstalt sollte in Ergänzung zur Moorversuchsstation Bremen Möglichkeiten der wirtschaftlichen Nutzung von Torf erkunden und Lösungen für einen rationellen Torfabbau entwickeln. In den 1950er Jahren erfuhr die Versuchsanstalt als Torfinstitut eine Neuausrichtung mit veränderter Aufgabenstellung außerhalb der Technischen Hochschule Hannover, ehe die Einrichtung in den 1970er Jahren, aufgrund politischer Vorgaben in das Niedersächsische Landesamt für Bodenforschung integriert, dort schnell an Bedeutung verlor. Die aus Glasnegativen und mehreren hundert Einzelstücken bestehende Probensammlung des Torfinstituts gelangte seinerzeit zur Lagerung an das Schlossmuseum Landestrost bei Neustadt am Rübenberge. Im Jahre 2015 kam es zur Schließung des dort eingerichteten Torfmuseums. Das Niedersächsische Landesamt für Bergbau, Energie und Geologie, als Rechtsnachfolger des Landesamtes für Bodenforschung Besitzer des Depositum des Torfinstituts, holte die Sammlung nach Hannover an das Landesamt zurück, ehe die Bestände 2017 an das Emsland Moormuseum als Dauerleihgabe abgegeben wurden. Da das Emsland Moormuseum seit Jahren Grundlagenforschung zur Geschichte der Ödlandkultivierung und Torfindustrie betreibt, wurde so sichergestellt, dass die Sammlung nicht nur verwahrt, sondern auch zukünftig erforscht wird. This research institute, in addition to the peat research station in Bremen, was supposed to explore possibilities of the economic use of peat and to find solutions for a rational cutback of peat. In the 50s the research institute, as a peat institute, experienced a realignment with modified task beyond the University of technology Hanover, before in 1970 the institution has been integrated in the state office for soil research of Lower Saxony and became less important rapidly. The collection of this peat institute, consisting of several hundred unique pieces as well as several glass negatives, has been handed over to the Schlossmuseum Landestrost by Neustadt at Rübenberge at that time. In 2015 the peat museum, which has been set up, were closed. The state office for mining, energy and geology of Lower Saxony as legal successor of the state office of soil research, owner of the depositum of the peat institute, brought back the collection to the state office Hanover. In 2017 the Emsland Moormuseum received their stock as a permanent loan. As the Emsland Moormuseum conduct basic research to the history of the wasteland cultivation and peat industry, it has been ensured that the collection is not only kept but also researched. From 30th June 2011 to 1st July 2011 a section 7 conference (regional studies and environmental education) regarding the facilities, operation and maintenance of field railways in tourist and museum institutions was organised by the „German Society for Moor and Peat“ (DGMT) in the „Alten Torfwerk“ in Diepenau-Essern. Particularly in northern Germany, but also at the Chiemsee, institutions meanwhile exist which not only collect and care for the field railways (whether locomotives or wagons) as well as possible, but also use these to transport interested guests. In many areas, however, there is a clear lack of cohesive collection and utilisation concepts. Furthermore questions regarding technical operation are not always conclusively regulated and insufficient thought has been given to statutory requirements. These problems become more acute as the number of field railway routes run by local associations increase as a result of the decline in Germany’s peat industry. The conference, which was held with the kind support of the „Moorbahn Uchter Moor“ association, was to take up issues regarding the planning and operation of field railways for purposes of tourism, as well as discussing the legal problems in connection with these matters. A fundamental purpose of the conference was to sensitise people for a differentiated approach towards the facilities and operation of field railways., Zusammenfassung: Vom 30.06.2011 bis zum 01.07.2011 fand in Diepenau-Essern im Alten Torfwerk eine Tagung der Sektion 7 (Landeskunde und Umweltbildung) der DGMT zur Anlage, dem Betrieb und dem Unterhalt von Feldbahnen in touristischen und musealen Einrichtungen statt. Vor allem im norddeutschen Raum, aber auch am Chiemsee, gibt es inzwischen Einrichtungen, die nicht nur Feldbahnen (ob Loks oder Waggons) sammeln und möglichst pflegen, sondern diese auch dazu nutzen, interessierte Gäste damit zu befördern. Dabei fehlen vielerorts schlüssige Sammlungs- und Nutzungskonzepte. Auch Fragen zum technischen Betrieb sind nicht immer ausreichend geklärt, rechtliche Anforderungen nicht umfassend berücksichtigt. Diese Probleme werden aktueller, da mit dem Rückgang der Torfindustrie in Deutschland durch örtliche Vereine betriebene Feldbahntrassen noch zunehmen. Die mit freundlicher Unterstützung des Vereins Moorbahn Uchter Moor stattgefundene Tagung sollte die mit der Planung und dem touristischen Betrieb von Feldbahnen zusammenhängenden Fragestellungen aufgreifen und rechtliche Problembereiche thematisieren. Summary: Most of the Emsland moorlands finally vanished with the „Emsland plan“. The foundation of settlements in the 17th and 18th century which stagnated in poor development, picked up again under the aegis of the Prussian government. Wasteland cultivation, internal colonisation and economic exploitation of peat became guiding principles in the „conquest“ of the moors, not only of the Emsland district or northwest Germany. This development was interrupted by the Second World War. Acting as a consequence of the necessity to create living space for refugees in the post-war period, the moor cultivation grew into a space reform of an unimaginable degree, especially in the districts of the Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim. The present essay investigates the different stages of this development and shows the research desiderata according to the latest state of research., Zusammenfassung: Mit dem Emslandplan verschwand der größte Teil der emsländischen Moore als Naturraum endgültig. Was mit Siedlungsgründungen im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert begann und lange Jahre in ärmlicher Entwicklung stagnierte, nahm unter der Ägide der preußischen Regierung Fahrt auf. Ödlandkultivierung, Binnenkolonisation und wirtschaftliche Nut zung der Torfe wurden zu Leitmotiven der „Eroberung“ der Moore, nicht nur des Emslandes oder Nordwestdeutschlands. Diese Entwicklung wurde durch den Zweiten Welt krieg unterbrochen. In the 1970s, the Emsland Moormuseum was founded by the homeland association of Geeste-Groß Hesepe. In many working hours the members of the association have built up the museum and have restored the machines of peatwinning and tilling. The exhibition focuses on the renaturalizationed peat bog area, the peatbaggers and the steam plough used by the former german company Ottomeyer. With its 30.000 visitors a year, the Moormuseum gains supra-regional interest. In 2003, due to the enourmous burden on the homeland association, the responsibility has been distributed upon the association, the District Emsland and the community of Geeste. The museum’s fortunes are now lead by a fulltime scientist with the aim to make the house forward-looking through moderate restructuring and modernization. Until spring of 2006 projects are at first the renovation of the exhibition hall, the conception of a new exhibition and a better connection to the museum’s exterior area., Zusammenfassung: Das Emsland Moormuseum wurde in den 1970er Jahren vom Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Groß Hesepe gegründet. Die Mitglieder des Heimatvereins haben in vielen Stunden Arbeit das Museum aufgebaut und Torfabbau- sowie Bodenbearbeitungsmaschinen restauriert. Im Zentrum der Ausstellung stehen die renaturierte Hochmoorfläche, die Torfbagger sowie der Dampflugsatz der Fa. Ottomeyer. Das Moormuseum zieht mit ca. 30.000 Jahresbesuchern auch überregionales Interesse auf sich. Aufgrund der enormen Belastung des Heimatvereins ist in 2003 die Trägerschaft innerhalb einer neuen Vereinsstruktur durch Beteiligung des Landkreises Emsland sowie der Gemeinde Geeste neu geregelt worden. Ein Wissenschaftler leitet seitdem hauptamtlich die Geschicke des Moormuseums mit dem Ziel, durch eine moderate Umstrukturierung und Modernisierung, das Haus zukunftsfähig aufzustellen.
