Abstract

Background & Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine self efficacy, perceived benefit/ barriers to exercise of students in Hormozagan University of Medical sciences (HUMS). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Using stratified sampling, 350 current students of HUMS were studied from November to December 2007 in Bandar Abbass, Iran. Data regarding self efficacy, perceived benefits/barriers to exercise among participants were assessed through Exercise self efficacy scale and Exercise Benefits/Barriers Scale. Data were analyzed by SPPS version 13. Results: In all, the data of 249 participants with mean age of 21.7 ± 2.7 were analyzed. Among them 65 participants (26.5%) including 36 girls and 30 boys were doing physical activity. Mean scores of self efficacy, perceived benefits, perceived barriers were 23 ± 7.1, 96 ± 12.5 and 31.9 ± 6.1, respectively. Abstract

The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution of essential oils of Vitex agnus castus leaves obtained by hydrodistillation was studied using: weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic polarization. The inhibition efficiency of the carbon steel attaints more than 79% at the concentration of 1g/L. This efficiency reaches 81.05% and 80.95%¨with the EIS and potentiodynamic polarization tests were used respectively. Polarization curves reveal that Vitex agnus castus essential oils were a mixed type inhibitor. Changes in impedance parameters (charge transfer resistance, Rt, and double-layer capacitance, Cdl) were indicative of adsorption of Vitex agnus castus essential oils on the metal surface leading to the formation of a protective film. The effect of the temperature on the corrosion behavior with the addition of the optimal concentration of Vitex agnus castus essential oils was studied in the temperature range 298– 328 K., Moroccan Journal of Chemistry, Vol. 11, No 1 (2023): In Progress

Abstract

The Rosa damascena (Mill), commonly known as Damask rose, is one of the most important Rosa species with great economic interest on a national and international scale. In Morocco, especially in M���gouna-Dades zone, the Damask rose is mainly propagated by replanting rooted shoots. However, this method is presenting several constraints. Considering this fact, this study was undertaken to investigate the influence of two major factors: the origin of cutting and the effect of the auxin treatment on Rosa damascena cutting. For this, the cuttings from seven localities were cultivated in a greenhouse under controlled conditions after soaking treatment in different concentrations of IBA (0; 2000 and 4000 ppm). The results revealed a highly significant difference between the different studied parameters between the seven localities. In fact, the individuals belonging to the same morphotype act in the same way with regard to cutting. The rooting rate varies between 10% and 70% depending on the origin of cuttings and the applied concentration of IBA. The results of this study showed that propagation of Rosa damascena by cuttings, can promote this culture. 30. Quantification of energy and environmental aspects of iranian dairy farms based on optimal nutrition

Abstract

– Input and output energy are all important aspects for evaluating the performance of dairy farms which have been used in a multi-indicator modeling approach to optimize the performance of30 dairy farms in Khorasan Razavi Province (Iran). Total input and output energy, energy ratio, energy productivity, and net energy gain across all farms are 7.5×1008 MJ, 4×1008 MJ, 0.53, 0.13 kg/MJ and -3.5×1008 MJ, respectively. Therefore, in order to reduce the energy “consumption” fordairy farms in this region, we built an optimization model using multi-objective fractional mathematical programming and considered the renewable energy, energy intensity, GHG emissions, and animal feed costs as objective functions. Totaloptimization achieved all goals is 0.5467. The proposed nutrition was confirmed based on the results of the main model and means if the farmers use the proposed diet including 26.8 kg/day, 22.2 kg/day and 19 kg/day of total intake feed for high milk cow, middle milk cow and low milk cow, respectively, in addition to reducing feed costs, energy consumption and GHG emissions associated with dairy farms will also decrease. Our model can be used in various contexts to improve theenvironmental and energy performance of dairy farms based on an optimal nutrition.

Abstract

The objective of the present work is to identify the chemical composition and to test the antioxidant activity of the essential oils of Perralderia coronopifolia Cosson subsp. Purpurascens (Asteraceae) collected in the oasis of Tata located in south east of Morocco. The essential oils was obtained by hydrodistillation method and analyzed by GC-MS. Antioxydant activity was tested using DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrilhydrazyl) assay. A total de 27 compounds were identified representing 83.59 % of the essential oils. The main compounds were γ-eudesmol (24.4%), α-eudesmol (19.77) and cis-nerolidol (13.97). antioxidant DPPH assay revealed an IC50=3.81 mg/mL. Constituents and antioxidant activity of the aerial part of the Perralderia coronopifolia Cosson subsp. 36. Study of volatile compounds of Pyrus mamorensis Trab. a characteristic plant of Mamora forest (north-western Morocco)

Abstract

Pyrus mamorensis Trab. commonly called “wild pear” was considered for long time as an endemic of the Mamora forest of Morocco (north-west). Although lack of protection and it is threatened with extinction in its range, this tree is of great interest due to its ecological and medicinal properties. This study focused on evaluation of volatiles in Pyrus mamorensis for its valorisation as a natural resource. So, the volatile compounds from different parts (leaves, stems, fruits, and flowers) were investigated after extraction by cold maceration in ethyl ether and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometry (GC - MS). Thirty one (31) compounds were identified and quantified including fifteen (15) terpenes, seven (7) alcans, two (2) aldehydes, four (4) esters and three (3) allyl alkoxybenzen derivatives. Estragol was the dominant component of the plant and that was only detected in leaves (83,09 %), while hexadecane (36,92 %) and allyl hexanoate (29,39 %) were mainly detected in the stems. The fruits showed relatively high levels (20,59 %) of benzyl butanoate, whereas in the flowers, limonene is the most abundant constituent (30,12 %). The analysis of the relative rates of different classes of volatile compounds, revealed the diversity of these compounds in P. mamorensis compared to two cultivars of edible species : P. communis L. et P. pyrifolia.
