1. Conditional phase gate between two photons through control of the interaction time with a single atom in a cavity

Abstract

We show that the simultaneous interaction of two single-photon fields with a single atom in the V configuration can in principle produce a conditional phase gate of arbitrarily high fidelity, for an appropriate choice of the interaction time, as long as the fields con be described by a single temporal mode (as in an optical cavity); this requires a ``gated'' interaction, where, e.g., dynamical coupling techniques could be used to get the fields in and out of the cavity, and a large detuning induced by a strong external field could be used to turn the atom-field interaction on and off at the right times. With these assumptions, our analysis shows that the largest gate fidelities are obtained for a cavity containing a single atom, and that adding more atoms in effect ``dilutes'' the system's nonlinearity. We also study how spontaneous emission losses into non-cavity modes degrade the fidelity, and consider as well a couple of alternate atomic level schemes, namely two- and five-level systems., Comment: Changes made in response to reviewers include: title and abstract, corrections to errors made in the calculations reported in the appendix in the first version (which do not change any of our conclusions), and a definition of the gate fidelity that is the square of the one previously used

2. Input-output wavepacket description of two photons interacting with a V-type three-level atom in an optical cavity

Abstract

We study the interaction of a V-type atom in a cavity with incident single- and two-photon wavepackets and derive an exact formula, valid in all parameter regimes, relating the spectrum of the outgoing wavepackets to the incident one. We present detailed results for several special input pulses, and consider the potential performance of the system as a CPHASE gate for initial pulses in a product state. We find values of the cavity, atomic and pulse parameters that yield a conditional phase shift of $\pi$, albeit with a relatively small overlap between the incoming and outgoing pulse forms., Comment: Submitted to Jon Dowling Memorial special issue of AVS Quantum Science

Abstract

A single atom in the V configuration exhibits a natural optical nonlinearity even down to the two-photon level. We explore in detail the possibility to use this for a controlled-phase quantum logical gate, by having the atom interact with single-mode, single-photon fields for a prescribed time.

Abstract

Speech scientists have been studying the issue of evils and related issues in two subjects of the doctrines of Muslims, the first subject of monotheism un- der the title of monotheism in the moral, the Almighty said ((God is the creator of everything)) (2). The second topic is the divine justice, that Almighty does not do ugly and does not leave Hassan (3), and many philosophers have felt the seriousness of the situation even counted a key focus in all philosophical discussions (4). Socrates was of the view that good is the origin of man and evil emergency. Galen believes that some people are good in their natures and some are evil. Others believe that it contains two aspects of good and evil (Cav- laton). And some of them look at the pessimistic view of the human view that man is evil by nature (as Freud). But many researchers believe that human nature is not good or evil, education and the environment are the basis in determining the characteristic of one of them (5). The world that these intel- lectuals portrayed is a world full of evil, sadness and sorrow, While the world depicted by our speakers and philosophers is a world full of hope, beautiful and wonderful (6).

7. Two-photon Quantum Gates with Single Atoms

Abstract

In the first part of this dissertation we study in detail the interaction of single-photon and two-photon wavepackets with a three-level V-type atom in a cavity without any control over the interaction time. We solve analytically for the spectrum of the outgoing wavepackets as a function of the incident wavepacket that is valid in all the cavity limits. We consider the potential performance of this system as a CPHASE gate by considering several special input pulses. We optimize for the gate fidelity and find values of the cavity, atomic and pulse parameters that yield a conditional phase shift of π, albeit with a relatively small overlap between the incoming and outgoing pulse forms. The small gate fidelity of this system motivated us to consider the simultaneous ”gated” interaction of two single-photon fields with a single atoms inside a cavity for the second part of this dissertation. We show that under the conditions to describe the fields by single temporal mode, such as using dynamical coupling technique to get the fields in and out of the cavity and using strong external fields to induce large detuning to start and stop the atom-field interaction, it is possible to produce a conditional phase gate with arbitrary high fidelity when a single three-level V-type atom is inside the cavity. We show how the performance of the phase gate degrades with using more atoms and finally the nonlinearity vanishes for very large number of atoms. We also show how spontaneous emission losses into modes other than the cavity mode decrease the gate fidelity. Finally, we will show the differences, similarities, advantages, and disadvantages of considering alternative atomic level schemes such as two-level atom and five-level atom in M-configuration.

8. Dynamical Casimir Effect Using Two Photon Absorber

Abstract

A single-photon-absorber (SPA) atom conned in a cavity quantum electrodynamic (CQED)has been studied in detail since the mid 80s. The study of the SPA atom has been done onboth experimental and theoretical levels using CQED and \regular" Jaynes-Cummings model(RJCM), respectively. The RJCM is the simplest theoretical model in quantum optics todescribe the interaction of the two-level atom (TLA) system with quantized mode of opticalcavity. In this thesis, after reproducing results for RJCM, we study a two-photon-absorberatom trapped in cavity QED with two dierent methods of pumping photons to the cavity.The rst method of adding photons to the cavity is using external laser and the secondmethod is generating pairs of photons by moving one of the cavity mirrors back and forth(dynamic Casimir eect). At the end, we compare the results from all three cases to see thesimilarities, dierences, and if it is possible to enhance the detection of moving mirrors usingTPA atom, i.e., to build a better gravitational wave detector using TPA atom.
