Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish a connection or correlation between the electrical and structural properties of ternary composites, which were prepared by adding multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and graphite (Gr) as conductive fillers to an insulating polyester matrix. The study utilized small-angle neutron scattering, infrared and Raman spectroscopy for structural characterization. Electrical measurements were conducted within a frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz and a temperature range of 200–380 K. The alternating current (AC) conductivity showed a frequency dependence following Jonscher's power law. The temperature dependence of the AC conductivity suggested that the electrical conduction within the material is a thermally activated process. The temperature-dependent behavior of the direct current (DC) conductivity suggests that below and above the critical temperature, there is a pronounced positive and negative temperature coefficient of resistivity, respectively. In comparison to MWCNT/polyester or Gr/polyester composites, the percolation threshold of the MWCNT/Gr/polyester composite is much lower. Additionally, applying the Arrhenius equation to analyze the temperature dependence of DC conductivity reveals that the inclusion of MWCNT and Gr in the polyester matrix results in a decrease in activation energy.

Abstract

Lattice Boltzmann simulations of double-diffusive convection in a rectangular cavity differentially heated and salted are conducted in the presence of internal heat generation and Dufour and Soret effects. The study is performed for an aspect ratio A = 2, an external Rayleigh number RaE = 105, a Lewis number Le = 2, a buoyancy ratio N = -1, and a Prandtl number Pr = 0.71: The study focuses mainly on the effect of Dufour number (Du = 0 and 0.5) to measure its impact on the ranges of steady/unsteady solutions reported in a previous study for the Soret parameter ranging from -0.5 to 0.5 and internal to external Rayleigh numbers ratio ranging from 0 to 80. Compared to Du = 0, the results obtained show that the presence of Dufour mechanism with a positive value leads to a destabilizing effect by widening the ranges of instability observed for the considered values of Sr: The combinations (Sr, Du) the most stabilizing/destabilizing are identified and discussed in this study. Abstract

The present study deals with numerical investigation of mixed convection of Al2O3-water nanofluid with consideration of variable properties inside a rectangular inclined multi-vented cavity heated from one side. Effects of variations of volume fraction of nanoparticles and the positions of outlet port of the cavity on flow and temperature field and rate of heat transfer are studied. The obtained results show that the existence of nanoparticles in the base fluid leads to a significant heat transfer increase. Abstract

In the present paper, numerical computations have been carried out to investigate the mixed convection developing within a cavity ventilated by injection / suction of a cold jet of isothermal air, interacting with the external environment through two openings arranged in the middle of the left and right vertical walls. The remaining portions of the left vertical wall are subjected to a constant heat flux, while, the remaining walls of the cavity are perfectly insulated. The combined effects of the basic parameters namely the Reynolds number, 20≤Re≤3000, the walls emissivity, 0≤ε ≤ 0.85, and the imposed external flow mode (injection or suction) on the flow characteristics and heat transfer are examined. The results revealed that, for both modes of ventilation, the contribution of radiation to the total heat transfer is significant even for a predominant forced convection regime particularly for high values of wall emissivity. Abstract

A numerical investigation is carried out for mixed convection fluid flow and heat transfer in a discretely heated lid-driven square cavity. The fluid in the cavity is a water-based nanofluid containing Al2O3 nanoparticles. The bottom and left walls are discretely heated while the right wall is cooled. The top wall is considered adiabatic and moving at a constant speed. The numerical resolution of the studied problem is based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The simulations have been carried out for the effects of various controlling parameters, such as Grashof number being fixed at 104, Richardson number ranging from 0.05 to 10, inclination angle ranging from 0° to 90° and the solid volume fraction of nanoparticles between 0 and 0.07. The obtained results are presented as streamlines, isotherms, average Nusselt numbers and average temperature inside the cavity. Results show that the nanoparticles effect contributes to an enhancement on heat transfer rate. Also, it is found that Ri involves a heat transfer reduction on both left and bottom walls. Abstract

This work presents an investigation on the optical and structural properties of two series of nanocomposites based on the incorporation of spherical‐ (NDs) or rod‐shaped (NRs) semiconductive crystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) into an insulating amorphous polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) matrix. The UV–visible absorbance and reflectance measurements reveal that the increase in TiO2 NP concentration within the polymer matrix reduces the forbidden band size for both NDs and NRs, leading to an improvement of the refractive index. SEM and TEM morphological characterizations were performed to investigate the size, size distribution and NPs dispersion within the polymeric matrix. The structural analyses performed by using X‐ray diffraction show peaks ascribed to the TiO2 crystalline structure while infrared (FT‐IR) spectra indicate the occurrence of interactions between nanofillers and the polymer chain of the host matrix. Abstract

This study focused on Algeria and it looked at how education quality affected the knowledge economy. The theoretical anchor was the endogenous or new growth hypothesis. Secondary sources were used to get panel-structured data that spanned 48 Algerian provinces in 22 years (1999–2020). The equations were estimated using the fixed-random effect model and Hausman test, Also the Kao (Engle Ganger-based) cointegration test proved that the series did indeed have a long-run connection. The findings indicated that the knowledge economy was boosted by a rise in students’ Baccalaureate and Intermediate test success rates. This is due to the fact that a rise in exam success rates indicates that individuals at various educational levels are now receiving education of a higher caliber, and the economy depends on this caliber of education. The rise in students and professors is a sign that there are more knowledgeable people and specialized educators accessible to fuel the knowledge economy. As more educated citizens pass their exams and graduate from college, they are hired from the labor market into industries as significant production factors whose skills, values, and knowledge acquired through specialized training are expected to promote machine handling and coordination of other human and nonhuman production factors to fuel the knowledge economy. Teachers should be provided with ongoing professional development opportunities to help them provide instruction at all educational levels, according to a recommendation. This would improve their ability to educate and inspire students and help them do better on their intermediate and baccalaureate exams

Abstract

Lagoons play an important socio-economic role and represent a precious natural heritage at risk from fishing pressure and chemical and biological pollution. Our research focused on better understanding the discrimination of fish biodiversity, the detection of non-indigenous species, and the valorization of commercial indigenous species at Mellah lagoon (Algeria). Taxonomic characterization and barcoding for all fish species and Inkscape schematic drawings for the most common species are provided. A total of 20 families and 37 species were recorded. The thermophilic species Coris julis, Thalassoma pavo, and Aphanius fasciatus and tropical species such as Gambusia holbrooki and Parablennius pilicornis were identified. Numerous Mediterranean species of socio-economic importance are highlighted, and detailed information is summarized for the lagoon’s sustainability. This short-term evaluation goes hand in hand with long-term programs documenting the interaction between indigenous and non-indigenous species in the lagoon and will allow the development of a provisional relationship model for future studies. Thermophilic and tropical species patterns in the Mellah lagoon are presented. Taken together, we provide useful data that can guide future investigations and may become a potential management tool for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and protecting species with large socio-economic roles from potential thermal stress impact.

Abstract

Binary and ternary composites were synthesized using a polyester matrix reinforced by two types of carbon inclusions, namely, carbon nanotubes (CNT) and graphite (Gt) (CNT/Gt/Polyester). Thermal analyses were performed, using thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry, which allowed us to observe significant changes in glass transition temperatures and degradation temperatures of the composites. Dielectric measurements were performed in a frequency range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz and temperature from –33 to 107°C. The dielectric permittivity values of the CNT/Gt/Polyester ternary composites, compared to the Gt/Polyester binary composites, indicate that the addition of CNT particles to the Gt/Polyester binary system significantly improved the dielectric permittivity, due to the enhanced interfacial polarization of the host matrix, while the frequency dependence of the electrical modulus spectra revealed a Maxwell–Wagner–Sillars dielectric relaxation process that was found to follow the Cole–Davidson approach.

Abstract

In the present study, the simulation of the direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) using a hybrid Lattice Boltzmann and finite volume approach is performed. The numerical model was first validated against available experimental data. Parametric studies were carried out to investigate the effect of the microstructure of the carbon fuel on the DCFC performance. The increase of the specific surface area (SSA) or porosity was found to minimize the voltage drop in the cell and ameliorate its output power density. In contrary, the increase of the tortuosity was found to inversely affect these results.

Abstract

In this paper, we asymptotically investigate a confined fluid flow in a flexible tube with a variable section. The fluid is considered to be newtonian, incompressible and it elapses in elastic and isotropic shell. This study provides a review of recent analysing the effects of the elastic wall tube properties over the fluid behaviour. The unsteady fluid flow will be analysed following the singular perturbations theory according to a large Reynolds number and a small aspect radio. The wall is assumed to be a thin shell that generate a small axisymmetric vibration. This model is mathematically developed by using the thin shell linear theory that is governed by a geodesic curvature parameter.
