- Abstract
The branching ratio of the structure dependent (SD) radiative K+→e+νeγ decay relative to that of the K+→e+νe(γ) decay including the internal bremsstrahlung (IB) process (Ke2(γ)) has been measured in the J-PARC E36 experiment using plastic scintillator/lead sandwich detectors, in contrast to the previous E36 measurement, which used a CsI(Tl) calorimeter. In the analysis, the effect of IB was also taken into account in the SD radiative decay as Ke2γ(γ)SD. By combining the new data with the previous E36 result after revision for the IB correction for Ke2γ(γ)SD, a new value Br(Ke2γ(γ)SD)/Br(Ke2(γ))=1.20±0.07 has been determined. This is consistent with a recent lattice QCD calculation, but larger than the expectation of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) at order O(p4) and the previous KLOE value. Using the method to relate form factor and branching ratio described in the KLOE paper, the present result is also consistent with the form factor prediction based on a gauged nonlocal chiral quark model, but larger than that from ChPT at order O(p6).

The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) searches for $a\to\gamma$ conversion in the 9 T magnetic field of a refurbished LHC test magnet that can be directed toward the Sun. Two parallel magnet bores can be filled with helium of adjustable pressure to match the X-ray refractive mass $m_\gamma$ to the axion search mass $m_a$. After the vacuum phase (2003--2004), which is optimal for $m_a\lesssim0.02$ eV, we used $^4$He in 2005--2007 to cover the mass range of 0.02--0.39 eV and $^3$He in 2009--2011 to scan from 0.39--1.17 eV. After improving the detectors and shielding, we returned to $^4$He in 2012 to investigate a narrow $m_a$ range around 0.2 eV ("candidate setting" of our earlier search) and 0.39--0.42 eV, the upper axion mass range reachable with $^4$He, to "cross the axion line" for the KSVZ model. We have improved the limit on the axion-photon coupling to $g_{a\gamma}< 1.47\times10^{-10} {\rm GeV}^{-1}$ (95% C.L.), depending on the pressure settings. Since 2013, we have returned to vacuum and aim for a significant increase in sensitivity., Comment: CAST Collaboration 6 pages 3 figures

The CERN Axion Solar Telescope has finished its search for solar axions with 3He buffer gas, covering the search range 0.64 eV ¿ ma ¿ 1.17 eV. This closes the gap to the cosmological hot dark matter limit and actually overlaps with it. From the absence of excess x rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of ga¿ ¿ 3.3 × 10-10 GeV-1 at 95% C.L., with the exact value depending on the pressure setting. Axions are hypothetical particles arising in models which may solve the CP problem of strong interactions. They are practically stable neutral pseudoscalar particles and also viable candidates for the dark matter of the Universe. Most of the axion experimental searches are based on the axion coupling to two photons. As a consequence of this coupling, axion could transform into photon and vice versa in external electric and magnetic fields. Axions could be produced in the solar core by conversion of thermal photons in the Coulomb fields of nuclei and electrons – the Primakoff process, and back-converted into photons in a laboratory magnetic field. The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) is designed to search for these axions by using a Large Hadron Collider prototype dipole magnet which follows the Sun during sunrise and sunset throughout the year. To explore as wide as possible range of axion masses, the operation of CAST is divided in two phases. During the phase I the experiment operated with vacuum inside the magnet bores and scanned axion masses up to 0.02 eV. In order to extend the sensitivity to higher axion masses, the magnet bores are filled with a buffer gas at various densities. In the first part of the CAST phase II, 4He was used as a buffer gas. In the ongoing second part of the phase II, CAST has been using 3He to cover axion masses up to 1 eV. So far, no evidence of axion signal has been found and CAST set the most stringent experimental limit on the axion-photon coupling constant over a broad range of axion masses.

The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) is searching for axions produced in the Sun´s core by the Primakoff process. CAST is using a decommissioned Large Hadron Collider (LHC) test magnet where axions could be converted back into X-rays with energies up to 10 keV. Analysis of the 2003 data showed no signal above background implying an upper limit for the axion-photon coupling constant g_(a gamma) < 1.16 × 10^(-10) GeV^(-1) at 95% C.L. for m_a < = 0.02 eV [1]. The higher quality 2004 data is presently under analysis. CAST Phase II is scheduled to start in late 2005. This will be the first step in extending CAST´s sensitivity to axion rest masses up to 1 eV.

- Abstract
The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using 3He as a buffer gas. At T=1.8 K this allows for larger pressure settings and hence sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with 4He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV < m_a < 0.64 eV. From the absence of excess X-rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g_ag < 2.3 x 10^{-10} GeV^{-1} at 95% CL, the exact value depending on the pressure setting. KSVZ axions are excluded at the upper end of our mass range, the first time ever for any solar axion search. In future we will extend our search to m_a < 1.15 eV, comfortably overlapping with cosmological hot dark matter bounds.

- Abstract
We have measured the photon energy spectra, angular distribution, and total branching ratio for the 12C(π−, γγ)X process for stopped pions. The branching ratio for photons with energies higher than 17 MeV is (1.2 ± 0.2) × 10−5, which is slightly lower than that of an experiment published recently. The energy distributions of the photons exhibit a shape, characteristic of a momentum-dependent bremsstrahlung mechanism, in agreement with a recent calculation based on a conventional nuclear model with no enhancement in the pion field.

We report a search for
d* dibaryon production by double-radiative capture on pionic deuterium. The experiment was conducted at the TRIUMF cyclotron using the RMC cylindrical pair spectrometer, and detectedγ -ray coincidences following pion stops in liquid deuterium. We found no evidence for narrow dibaryons, and obtained a branching ratio upper limit,BR<6.7×10−6 (90% C.L.), for narrowd* production in the mass range from1920 to1980 MeV. Abstract: We report a search for low-lying exotic baryons via double radiative capture on pionic hydrogen. The data were collected at the TRIUMF cyclotron using the RMC spectrometer by detecting gamma-ray pairs from pion stops in liquid hydrogen. We found no evidence to support an earlier claim for exotic baryons of masses 1004 and , and set upper limits on exotic baryon mediated capture of and , respectively. We also obtained bounds on the couplings between exotic baryons and ordinary nucleons. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
