Abstract

Modeling and simulation approaches that express crowd movement with mathematical models are widely and actively studied to understand crowd movement and resolve crowd accidents. Existing literature on crowd modeling focuses on only the decision-making of walking behavior. However, the decision-making of route choice, which is a higher-level decision, should also be modeled for constructing more practical simulations. Furthermore, the reproducibility evaluation of the crowd simulation incorporating the route choice model using real data is insufficient. Therefore, we generalize and propose a crowd simulation framework that includes actual crowd movement measurements, route choice model estimation, and crowd simulator construction. We use the Discrete choice model as the route choice model and the Social force model as the walking model. In experiments, we measure crowd movements during an evacuation drill in a theater and a firework event where tens of thousands of people moved and prove that the crowd simulation incorporating the route choice model can reproduce the real large-scale crowd movement more accurately., Comment: This is the full version of the paper submitted as an extended abstract for AAMAS 2023

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the association between maternal asthma (MA) and obstetric complications, while considering subdivided total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. Methods Data of the participants enrolled in the Japan Environment and Children's Study between 2011 and 2014 were analyzed. In total, 77,131 women with singleton live births at and after 22 weeks of gestation were included. MA was defined based on a self-administered questionnaire. Women with MA were stratified based on the quartile of total serum IgE levels during pregnancy as follows: low IgE levels ( 331.00 IU/mL). The adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for preterm births (PTB), small for gestational age (SGA) infants, gestational diabetes mellitus, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) were calculated using multivariable logistic regression, while considering women without MA as reference and maternal socioeconomic factors as confounders. Results The aORs for SGA infants and HDP in women with MA and high total serum IgE levels were 1.26 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05-1.50) and 1.33 (95% CI, 1.06-1.66), respectively. The aOR for SGA infants among women with MA and moderate total serum IgE levels was 0.85 (95% CI, 0.73-0.99). The aOR for PTB among women with MA and low total serum IgE levels was 1.26 (95% CI, 1.04-1.52). Conclusions for Practice MA with subdivided total serum IgE levels was associated with obstetric complications. Abstract

This paper presents a fast projection mapping method for moving image content projected onto a markerless planar surface using a low-latency Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) projector. By adopting a closed-loop alignment approach, in which not only the surface texture but also the projected image is tracked by a camera, the proposed method is free from a calibration or position adjustment between the camera and projector. We designed fiducial patterns to be inserted into a fast flapping sequence of binary frames of the DMD projector, which allows the simultaneous tracking of the surface texture and a fiducial geometry separate from a single image captured by the camera. 35. Spatiotemporal Learning of Dynamic Gestures from 3D Point Cloud Data

Abstract

In this paper, we demonstrate an end-to-end spatiotemporal gesture learning approach for 3D point cloud data using a new gestures dataset of point clouds acquired from a 3D sensor. Nine classes of gestures were learned from gestures sample data. We mapped point cloud data into dense occupancy grids, then time steps of the occupancy grids are used as inputs into a 3D convolutional neural network which learns the spatiotemporal features in the data without explicit modeling of gesture dynamics. We also introduced a 3D region of interest jittering approach for point cloud data augmentation. This resulted in an increased classification accuracy of up to 10% when the augmented data is added to the original training data. The developed model is able to classify gestures from the dataset with 84.44% accuracy. Abstract

KIF1A is a kinesin family motor involved in the axonal transport of synaptic vesicle precursors (SVPs) along microtubules (MTs). In humans, more than 10 point mutations in KIF1A are associated with the motor neuron disease hereditary spastic paraplegia (SPG). However, not all of these mutations appear to inhibit the motility of the KIF1A motor, and thus a cogent molecular explanation for how KIF1A mutations lead to neuropathy is not available. In this study, we established in vitro motility assays with purified full-length human KIF1A and found that KIF1A mutations associated with the hereditary SPG lead to hyperactivation of KIF1A motility. Introduction of the corresponding mutations into the Caenorhabditis elegans KIF1A homolog unc-104 revealed abnormal accumulation of SVPs at the tips of axons and increased anterograde axonal transport of SVPs. Our data reveal that hyperactivation of kinesin motor activity, rather than its loss of function, is a cause of motor neuron disease in humans.

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate differences in maternal characteristics and obstetric and offspring childhood outcomes between births at and after 37 weeks of gestation (referred to as term and post-term births) according to the use of tocolytic treatment. Methods: Data for 63,409 women with singleton births at and after 37 weeks of gestation were analyzed using data from the Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS). We compared maternal characteristics, obstetric outcomes, and offspring childhood outcomes between term and post-term births exposed and not exposed to tocolytic treatment. Additionally, multivariable logistic regression models were used to calculate adjusted odds ratios for offspring childhood outcomes with significant between-group differences in the univariable analysis, with term and post-term births without tocolytic agents as the reference group. Results: We observed differences in maternal characteristics and obstetric outcomes between term and post-term births exposed and not exposed to tocolytic treatment. The incidence of offspring childhood developmental disorders showed no significant between-group differences. However, participants exposed to tocolytic agents had higher incidence of offspring childhood allergic disorders. The adjusted odds ratio for any of the offspring childhood allergic disorders in term and post-term births with tocolytic agents was 1.08 (95% confidence interval, 1.03–1.13). Conclusion: This study found no significant difference in the incidence of offspring developmental disorders between term and post-term births exposed and not exposed to tocolytic treatment. However, tocolytic treatment was associated with differences in maternal characteristics and obstetric outcomes, along with a marginal increase in the incidence of childhood allergic disorders in offspring. Abstract

The human parainfluenza virus type 4 (HPIV4) can be classified into two distinct subtypes, 4a and 4b. The full lengths of the fusion gene (F gene) of 48 HPIV4 strains collected during the period of 1966–2022 were analyzed. Based on these gene sequences, the time-scaled evolutionary tree was constructed using Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. A phylogenetic tree showed that the first division of the two subtypes occurred around 1823, and the most recent common ancestors of each type, 4a and 4b, existed until about 1940 and 1939, respectively. Although the mean genetic distances of all strains were relatively wide, the distances in each subtype were not wide, indicating that this gene was conserved in each subtype. The evolutionary rates of the genes were relatively low (4.41 × 10−4 substitutions/site/year). Moreover, conformational B-cell epitopes were predicted in the apex of the trimer fusion protein. Abstract

Background: Food allergy children and their families tend to have emotional distress and anxiety. There have been few reports of differences in parenting stress and a child's food allergy phenotypes. Methods: We examined the associations between food allergy phenotypes in children and parenting stress assessed by the Parenting Stress Index‐Short Form (PSI‐SF) from a national birth cohort (Japan Environment and Children's Study). Results: We included 65,805 children for statistical analysis. Of them, 7.2% of children had a food allergy diagnosis at 2 years old. The means of the total PSI‐SF (39.9 ± 10.3, 39.1 ± 9.9), CD‐SF (19.5 ± 5.4, 19.1 ± 5.2), and PD‐SF (20.5 ± 6.3, 20.0 ± 6.1) scores are similar for caregivers in the with and without food allergy groups. Food allergy diagnosis resulted in significantly higher total PSI scores (coefficient.47, 95% CI 0.19–0.75, p =.001), CD‐SF (coefficient.22, 95% CI 0.07–0.38, p =.004), and PD‐SF (coefficient.24, 95% CI 0.08–0.41, p =.004). A similar trend was observed for allergy reactions to hen's egg. However, there was no clear relationship between allergic reactions to milk, wheat, nuts, and PSI‐SF. Conclusions: Parental stress was significantly related to a child's food allergy. Furthermore, hen's egg allergy increased parental stress. Multiple food avoidance might also increase parental stress. Healthcare providers need to be aware of parental stress in our daily clinic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate associations of dietary intake including vitamin D, folate, and n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in pregnant women with broad autism phenotype (BAP). The Japan Environment and Children's Study is a government-funded birth cohort study. All complete data of 92,011 were analyzed. The Japanese version of the Autism Spectrum Quotient was used to assess mothers' BAP level, and a food frequency questionnaire was used to estimate their dietary intake. Mothers with BAP consumed less vegetables, fruits, and fish and shellfish, and they consumed lower folate, vitamin C, vitamin D, and n-3 PUFA than their counterparts. Dietary intervention should be considered for pregnant women with high BAP scores.
