2. Assessing the Attitudes of Distance Learners toward the Use of ICT in Education

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the attitudes of distance education students toward the use of ICT in learning and teaching. The sample and units of analysis were 500 adult students undertaking distance education studies at the Institute of Education Development (InED), UiTM. The variables studied were computer anxiety, confidence, liking and, usefulness. The response rate was 56.8%. The findings showed that even in this K-economy, there are still some students who are uncomfortable with using ICT, that is, the students do not favor the use of ICT through InED's learning management system. The findings are important to gauge the students' performance as well as to modify and strengthen InED's policy for using ICT and other technologies to impart knowledge and education.

3. Antecedents of ICT Attitudes of Distance Education Students

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the antecedents of ICT attitudes of distance education (e-PJJ) students at the Institute of Education Development (InED), UiTM. The antecedents studied were computer anxiety, confidence, liking, and usefulness. The findings are important to strengthen InED's policy for using ICT and other technologies to impart knowledge and education at the diploma and undergraduate levels. Five hundred students were the units of analysis for this study and the response rate was 56.8%. Even in this Information Age, the findings showed that there are still some students who are uncomfortable with using ICT or educational technology for e-learning. (Contains 3 tables and 1 figure.)

5. Attitudes toward Learning about and Working with Computers of Students at UiTM

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the attitudes toward learning about and working with computers of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam students. Attitudes were studied in an attempt to ascertain factors such as anxiety, confidence, liking and, usefulness at the university level. A total of 300 students at various stages of education from diploma to doctoral degrees participated in this study. Questionnaires were distributed to students and completed ones (100%) were collected by two research assistants. The instrument used was a questionnaire designed by Loyd and Gressard (1984). The questionnaire solicited demographic information, and 40 questions or statements structured on a scale of one to four. They were then utilized to measure attitudes toward learning about and working with computers. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 11.0 for frequencies, mean, standard deviation and, cross tabulation. The results suggested that UiTM Shah Alam students, especially the female students, have positive attitudes toward learning about and working with computers.
