1. Improvement of pattern position accuracy with the LMS2020

Abstract

A high pattern position accuracy of ±50nm or less is required for ULSI devices such as 64Mb and 256MbDRAMs. To achieve this high pattern position accuracy, it is necessary to use high performance lithography tools. And to make good use of their performance, it is important to monitor the performance of them using a metrology tool with high accuracy, analyze their respective position error factors, and then do feedback corrections exactly. The Leitz LMS2020 was introduced to meet the requirements of pattern position accuracy for 0.25 μm rule devices. By monitoring the performance of MEBES4000 with LMS2020, and maintaining its error at a minimum, a high pattern position accuracy of ±50nm or less could be achieved.

Abstract

Catecholamine-containing subependymal cells were studied by the silver impregnation technique. We divided them into three types, based on location of their cell bodies in the hypothalamus. The majority of these cell bodies were situated in the subependymal layer, while a few were found in the ependymal layer as well as in the preoptic nucleus. The basal processes of these cells were found to extend in three different directions in the brain; 1) They extended laterally and contacted with neuronal processes in the preoptic area, 2) traveled caudally and lateroventrally forming an element of the preoptic recess organ tract, and 3) ran rostrally and dorsolaterally and distributed further widely to the telencephalon.

Abstract

膵外分泌酵素の一つであるCarboxypeptidase A (CPase A) の生理学的ならびに病態生理学的動態については不明である. 今回, われわれは本酵素の生理学的ならびに病態生理学的動態について実験的ならびに臨床的に検討した. 膵液中のCPase A活性はP-S連続刺激下でAmylase値と同様の変動を示した.急性膵炎時は血清CPase A活性は軽度の上昇がみられたにすぎなかった. 膵全剔, および膵管結紮後では血清CPase A活性は経日的に著明に低下した. 確認した膵癌17例の術前CPase A活性は低値を示すものが多く, 特にビマン性はものに著明であった. これらの成績から, 本酵素活性は膵液中に高濃度に存在し, 血清CPase A活性は膵外分泌障害時に低値を示したこの事実から, 本酵素の測定は膵疾患の存在を推測する一つの方法として有用と推測された.

Abstract

The toxic effect on area CA3 of the hippocampus of the rat of small doses of kainic acid (KA) injected into the lateral ventericles was examined by electron microscopy. The most characteristic feature revealed was degeneration in the pyramidal cell somata and in their dendrites from as early as 3hr after injection. We found four types of degenerating pyramidal cells probably corresponding to their susceptibility to KA intoxication. We also detected degenerating preterminal axons and terminals in addition to degenerating pyramidal cells and dendrites. Temporary structural alterations of the mossy fiber endings and intimate adhesional contacts between the mossy fiber endings were also observed. The response of the glia to the damage area CA3 was an increase in the number of astroglia and macrophages in the early stage followed later by mobilization of microglia and astroglia for the formation of scar tissue.

The originating neurons of the ipsilateral efferent fiber connections from retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The origin of the efferents from the amygdaloid complex to the preoptic area are the neurons in the central and medial nuclei. The cortical nucleus and other nuclei of the amygdaloid complex could not be ascertained as the origins of these efferent fibers in the present study.

9. Amino Acid Supplementation of Hydrocarbon Yeast Chick Diet

Abstract

In this country hydrocarbon yeast is expected to play an important role as a source of protein for poultry feed in the future. It can be produced on a large scale and made from n-paraffin used as a primary growth substrate.Two lots of hydrocarbon yeast for these experiments contained 8.0 and 9.6% nitrogen respectively. The amino acid composion of the samples tested are low in methionine, arginine and phenylalanine, and high in lysine.The purpose of this experiments was conducted to determine which essential amino acid are most limiting in a ration containing 20% hydrocarbon yeast protein.In Experiment I methionine was found to be most limiting amino acid in hydrocarbon chick ration followed by arginine and then phenylalanine. The phenylalanine level appeared to be submarginal.In Experiment II the unsupplemented control diet gave 57% of the gain of the amino acid supplemented control and the feed conversion was considerably higher. The addition of arginine resulted in significantly better gain than the unsupplemented control and same feed conversion. Arginine and methionine added together showed no improvement in weight over methionine addition alone.Soybean meal diet resulted in a significantly better gain than hydrocarbon yeast diet supplemented with amino acid mixture.

Abstract

The ontogenetic development of catecholamine (CA)- and LHRH-containing nerve endings in the median eminence of the rat was investigated by combining fluorescence histochemistry and immunohistochemistry in the same tissue section. LHRH-terminals appeared earlier than CA-terminals and were already detectable in the lateral part of the external layer of the central ME on the first day after birth. CA-nerve endings were first seen in a corresponding region of the ME on the seventh postnatal day. At this stage both types of terminals showed the earliest manifestation of a correlative pattern of their distribution. Subsequently the development of both types of nerve endings proceeded rapidly, and at 14 days their distribution pattern corresponded to that in adult animals. The authors conclude that at this stage the CA-neurons play a constant and significant role in the release of LHRH into the portal capillaries. The correlation between both types of nerve endings and the ontogenetic development of the capillary plexuses of the hypophysial portal system is discussed.
