PurposeTo investigate the validity and reliability of the Body Image Scale in Turkish ostomy patients.

© GATA.Aim: The aim of this research was to define the suspected scoliosis cases in primary school children. Methods: This cross-sectional research was conducted in four primary schools. The sample size was determined as 1693. Data were gathered by using sociodemographic questionnaire form, physical examination form. This form consists of two parts: the inspection of the spine visually (back view) and Adam’s Forward Bending Test. Results: The researchers assessed and diagnosed 36 (2.1%) students as suspected cases of scoliosis and referred them to the orthopedist. 18 children out of the 36 suspected cases were diagnosed with scoliosis by the physician’s examination and by radio diagnostic tests. Conclusions: The suspected scoliosis cases were assessed and diagnosed correctly by nurse researchers at a rate of 50%, by screening in schools. School health nurses can assess and help diagnose children with scoliosis by using Adam’s Forward Bending Test. This study confirms the effective role of nurses in the early detection of scoliosis in school screening programs.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim çağındaki çocuklarda olası skolyoz olgularını saptamaktır. Yöntem: Bu kesitsel araştırma, dört ilköğretim okulunda yapılmıştır. Örneklem büyüklüğü 1693 olarak belirlenmiştir. Veriler sosyodemografik anket formu, fizik muayene formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Bu form omurganın gözle muayenesi (sırt görünüm) ve Adam's Forward Bent Testi olmak üzere iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. Bulgular: Araştırmacılar tarafından 36 (%2.1) öğrenci olası skolyoz olarak değerlendirilmiş ve bu öğrenciler ortopediste sevk edilmiştir. 36 olası skolyoz olgunun 18'ine hekim muayenesi ve radyolojik tanı testleri ile skolyoz tanısı konulmuştur. Sonuçlar: Hemşire araştırmacılar tarafından olası skolyoz olgularının %50'si doğru olarak değerlendirilmiş ve tanı konmuştur. Okul sağlığı hemşireleri Adam's Forward Bent Testi ile skolyozlu çocukları değerlendirebilir ve tanı konmasına yardımcı olabilir. Stoma açılması sıklıkla uygulanan cerrahi bir yönt emdir. Stoma komplikasyonlarının görülme sıklığına ilişkin yapılan araştırmalar incelendiğinde, peristomal cilt komplikasyonlarının görülme sıklığının %12 ile %76 arasında değiştiği gö- rülmektedir. Peristomal cilt komplikasyonlarının değerlendirilmesi ve iyileştirilmesi stoma bakım hemşirelerinin görevidir ve zamanlarının çoğunu peristomal cilt problerinin önlenmesi ve iyileştirilmesi için harcarlar. Peristomal cilt aracı, güvenilir ve geçerli bir araçtır. Peristomal cilt aracı, peristomal cilt komplikasyonlarının ciddiyeti ve nedenlerine yönelik, bakım veren hemşireler arasında ortak dil sağlar. Araç iki bölümden oluşur. Birinci bölüm komplikasyonun boyut ve şiddetine puan vererek komplikasyon puanının belirlenmesini sağlar. İkinci bölüm komplikasyonun nedeni ve komplikasyona yönelik girişim önerilerini içerir. Türkçe geçerlilik ve güvenilirliği yapılan peristomal cilt aracının, bütün bakım alanlarında (hastane, ev gibi), stoma ve yara bakım hemşirelerine aynı zamanda evde bakım hemşirelerine, peristomal cildin değerlendirilmesi ve komplikasyonların iyileştirilmesinde büyük katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Peristomal cilt aracı, stoma ve yara bakım hemşiresi, peristomal cilt komplikasyonu, Ostomy creation is a frequently performed surgical procedure. Peristomal skin disorders are common problem. In respect of studies related to incidence of peristomal skin complication 12 to 76% of ostomy patients experience some type. Ostomy care nurses have a crucial role in the assessment and management of peristomal skin disorders, and spend a significant proportion of their time preventing and managing them The Ostomy Skin Tool is valid and reliable tool. The Ostomy Skin Tool provides a common language to describe the severity, extent and likely cause of a peristomal skin disorder. The Ostomy Skin Tool is comprised of two sections. Part one is used to calculate a score that describes the peristomal skin condition and incorporates both the area aff ected and severity of the problem. Part two is a diagnostic guide that allows categorisation of the peristomal skin disorder according to its cause and off ers guidance on care. Turkish version of Ostomy Skin Tool could provide a richer contribition to the assessment and intervention of peristomal skin condition in all settings (such as; hospital, home) to the ostomy and wound care nurses and home care nurses.Keywords: Ostomy skin tool, ostomy and wound care nurse, peristomal skin complication

BÖLÜM VI ÖZET ve ABSTRACT 6.1. ÖZET KADIN MAHKUMLARDA BENLİK SAYGISI VE KENDİ KENDİNE MEME MUAYENESİ İLİŞKİSİ Mahkum kadınlarda benlik saygısı ile kendi kendine meme muayenesi bilgi düzeyi ve uygulaması arasındaki ilişkileri araştırmak amacıyla bu araştırma planlanmıştır. Sağlık hizmetlerinde kısmen yoksun olan mahkum kadınların KKMM bilgilerini, KKMM uygulama oranlarını, benlik saygısı puanlarım, sosyo-demografik değişkelerinin etkileyip etkilemediği araştırılmıştır. Araştırma 2003-2005 tarihleri arasında Ege Bölgesi cezaevlerinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırma katılmayı kabul eden 161 kadın mahkum üzerinde uygulanmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan kadın mahkumlara, sosyo-demografik bilgilerini ve KKMM bilgi ve uygulamalarım değerlendirmek üzere araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan anket formları ile mahkum kadınların benlik saygılarım ölçmek için Coopersmith Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği verilmiştir. Toplam dokuz cezaevinde, her gün birine gidilerek çalışma yürütülmüştür. Mahkum kadınlara soru formlarım doldurduktan sonra KKMM ve meme kanseri konusunda eğitim verilip eğitim broşürü dağıtılmıştrr. Kadın mahkumların yaş ortalaması 33,74±0,83 olarak bulunmuştur. Kadın mahkumların benlik saygısı ortalaması X=59,24±18,94 olarak bulunmuştur. Kadın mahkumların benlik saygısı puanları ile eğitim durumu, aile yapısı ve gelir-gider durumu değişkenleri arasında anlamlı ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. 120Kadın mahkumların KKMM bilgi puanları düşük(X=31.94±1.97) uygulama davranışları yetersiz(X=5.09±0.82) bulunmuştur. KKMM bilgi düzeyi ile yalnızca eğitim durumu değişkeni arasında ilişki bulunduğu belirlenmiştir. Tüm bu veriler ışığında kadın mahkumların KKMM bilgi ve uygulamalarının yetersiz olduğu belirlenmiş, bu nedenle kadın mahkumlara sağlık eğitiminin verilmesi ve cezaevlerinde hemşirelerin istihdam edilmemesi nedeniyle sürekli sağlık eğitimi verilemediği için cezaevlerinde mutlaka bir hemşirenin bulunması gerektiği önerilmiştir. ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND KNOWLEDGE OF BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION PRACTISE IN FEMALE INMATES This investigation is planned in order to search the relationships between the self-esteem and knowledge level and practice about breast self-examination in female inmates. Their socio-demographic variables are investigated as to whether these variables affect the BSE practice knowledge, BSE practice rates and the self- esteem scores of the female inmates who are partially deprived of health services. The investigation was carried out in the prisons of Aegean Region in 2003- 2005. The examinations are applied to 161 women who accepted to attend the study. Questionnaire forms prepared by the researcher and Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale were given to the female inmates who attended the study. The former aimed at the determination of the socio-demographic knowledge while the latter is used to measure the self-esteem of the female inmates. The study was carried out including totally nine prisons each of which was visited on one day. After the volunteer women fulfilled the questionnaires, they were educated on BSE practice and breast cancer and some brochures were distributed. The mean age of the female inmates were found to be 33.74 ± 0.83. The mean value of their self-esteem was found as X = 59.34 ± 18.94. It was established that there was a significant relationship between the self-esteem scores of the women and the education status, family structure and income-outcome variables. The BSE practice knowledge scores and the practice behaviors of the female inmates were found to be low (X = 31.94±1.97) and insufficient (X=5.09± 0.82), 122respectively. It was determined that BSE practice knowledge level was only correlated with the variable of education status. In the light of these data, it was detected that the BSE practice knowledge and practice of the female inmates were inadequate and therefore it was proposed that a health education should be given to the women prisoners and that a nurse must be employed in the prisons due to the fact that a continuous health education couldn't be given. Even though preoperative marking of the stoma area is considered important for the prevention of postoperative complications, not all healthcare institutions have universally adopted this practice. A multicenter, retrospective, descriptive study was conducted to determine the effect of stoma site marking on stomal and peristomal complications. The 1-year study included 748 patients (408 [54.5%] male, mean age 56.60 +/- 16.73 years) from eight stomatherapy units in Turkey. history of preoperative stoma site marking, person per-Patient data, including age, gender, diagnosis, type of surgery, forming the marking, and postoperative complications, were obtained from patient records, abstracted, and analyzed. Cancer was the reason for the operation in 545 (72.9%) of the cases. In 287 patients (38.4%), the stoma and wound care nurse and/or surgeon marked the stoma area; this occurred 1 day before or on the day of surgery according to Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons recommendations. Stomal/peristomal complications developed in 248 (33.2%) persons; the most frequently observed complications in patients were parastomal skin problems (136, 48.7%), mucocutaneous separation (52, 18.6%), and retraction (31, 11.1%). The rate of complications was higher among patients whose stoma site was not marked than among those whose stoma site was marked (22.9% and 46%, respectively; P < 0.001). The results of this study confirm the stoma area should be marked preoperatively in all planned surgical interventions in order to reduce the risk of postoperative complications. Additional prospective and experimental studies on effectiveness of preoperative stoma site marking should be conducted with larger sample groups.
