4. The Effect of Blended Learning on Student's Learning Achievement and Science Process Skills in Plant Tissue Culture Course

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the effect of blended learning strategy on learning achievement and science process skills of students in plant tissue culture course in the Universitas Negeri Medan. The research method was quasi experiment. The population of this study was all semester VIII students of biology education program. The study sample consists of two classes, namely: class A known as control class who were taught by conventional learning strategy and class C known as experiment class who were taught by blended learning strategy. They were selected using cluster random sampling technique. The results of the study showed that tcount = 3.769, P= 0.001 at the level significance of 0.05 in learning achievements score. It also showed that tcount = 5.435 > ttable = 1.661 P= 0.001 at the level significance of 0.05 in science process skills score. Based on the study result, it can be concluded the blended learning strategy found significantly more effective in enhancing students' learning achievement and science process skills in plant tissue culture course as compared to the conventional learning strategy.

Abstract

The metaverse is a virtual world with immense potential and is increasingly adopted as an online learning platform for students. Students can build virtual worlds that simulate real-life experiences using interactive activities. In this study, we implemented student learning in the virtual world and evaluated the effects of students' achievements. Online learning formats were conducted in Second Life (SL) technology for one semester by three groups (classes), and the data was collected, including several categories, i.e., project work, interaction logs, feedback forms, online quizzes, and attendance. We then employed the robust Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) technique to classify student performance during their virtual learning experience. The results showed significant improvements in student learning across several categories, with substantial variations observed among the different classes. Interestingly, we also found that students in each class had unique experiences and faced distinct challenges in the virtual learning environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Our empirical research delved into how this interactive digital learning module affected students' learning outcomes and their ability to retain information. We explored three distinct scenarios: an e-learning environment with the interactive digital learning module, an electronic learning module without interactive video, and a traditional classroom environment with a text-based module. This study was conducted with a sample of 180 eleventh-grade students from a senior high school. The results of the experiment revealed that students in the e-learning environment, which incorporated the interactive digital learning module, demonstrated significantly better learning outcomes and retention compared to those in the other settings. Conversely, students who utilized the electronic learning module featuring noninteractive video did not exhibit any notable improvements. These findings suggest that the integration of interactive modular teaching into the learning process enhances student retention, thereby positively influencing their overall learning performance. Abstract

Zingiber loerzingii Valeton is one of the species in the Zingiberaceae family found throughout Aceh and North Sumatra, Indonesia, with slimy flowers, yellowish white color, and dark orange stamens. Z. loerzingii is endemic in North Sumatra with a very limited distribution. The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources classifies this plant into the vulnerable ones category. This study aims to examine the potential of DNA barcoding from nuclear DNA (ITS2) and DNA chloroplasts (rbcL and trnL-F) to identify Z. loerzingii plants. The research sample was obtained from two main distribution areas of Z. loerzingii in North Sumatra, Indonesia, namely Sibolangit Nature Reserve and Tangkahan Conservation Forest. The results showed that all the DNA barcode markers used were able to classify Z. loerzingii into the same group in the phylogenetic analysis. ITS marker is the most effective marker for classifying Zingiberaceae species compared to rbcL and trnL-F markers. The ITS2 marker has the lowest level of intraspecific and intraspecific genetic distance overlap compared to the rbcL and trnL-F markers. Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between LMS-Based Blended Learning with Self-Regulated Learning Ability on Biotechnology Materials. The research method uses a quasi-experimental technique with Spearman correlation data analysis at a significance level of =0.05. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 4 Medan for Class XII students in the 2020/2021 academic year. The population in this study were 10 science classes at SMAN 4 Medan with a sample of 2 classes. The instruments used in the form of student opinion questionnaires on LMS Google Classroom and Rumah Belajar and Self Regulated Learning questionnaires. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between the use of the Google Classroom LMS and the Kelas Maya Rumah Belajar with Self-Regulated Learning Abilities. The results of this study may be due to the features in Google Classroom that have not been used optimally, the content has not been designed properly, there are technical obstacles in the use of Kelas Maya Rumah Belajar and the saturation of students doing online learning. Abstract

DNA barcode is one of the molecular techniques used to identify and classify living things. Z. loerzingii is currently reported as a rare and endemic plants that is only found in North Sumatra. Scientific studies for Z. Loerzingii is measly done so that the information about this plant is limited while a clear identity on a plant is essential to discover the potential. This study aims to determine the molecular characteristics of Z. loerzingii by using DNA barcodes and assessing the phylogenetic relationship based on the rbcL gene locus. DNA was isolated with a commercial kit. The rbcL gene locus in the chloroplast genome of Z. loerzingii amplified using the Polymerase Chain Reaction technique to produce amplicon with the length approximately 600 bp. Consensus sequence merging generate a sequence with 576 bp length. The phylogenetic tree reconstruction was carried out using the Neighbor-Joining method and the Kimura-2-Parameter calculation model showed Z. loerzingii included in the monophyletic group with Zingiber mioga and Zingiber officinale as the sister taxa. The results for the molecular diversity analysis of Z. Loerzingii point out that in all samples of Z. loerzingii which collected from Cagar Alam Sibolangit have no molecular or genetic diversity. Therefore, it can be concluded that DNA barcoding with the rbcL gene locus can be used as a method to identify Z. loerzingii molecularly and efficient in determining their phylogenetic with other species.

22. DEVELOPMENT OF TISSUE CULTURE TEXTBOOK BASED ON SCIENTIFIC LITERACY AS A STUDENT LEARNING SOURCE

Abstract

This study aims to develop and determine the feasibility of a tissue culture textbook based on scientific literacy, conducted from November 2020 to May 2021. This study used the Dick & Carrey development model, modified to the formative evaluation stage. The instrument used is a questionnaire filled out by validators (material experts, learning design experts, layout design experts), lecturers of the Network Culture course, and students majoring in biology. The results showed that 77% of students had difficulty learning about somaclonal diversity and needed additional cultural application material. There were no scientific literacy-based tissue culture textbooks in the UNIMED library. Based on the survey, 76.9% of students said they liked somaclonal diversity material, 86.6% said it was challenging to study, 53.8% of the material described the interaction of science, environment, technology, and society, 30.8% did not explain the application of culture. As the results of textbook development, validator analysis shows 86% (very feasible) from material experts, 91% (very feasible) from learning design experts and 91% (very feasible) from layout design experts. The percentage of responses showed: 93% (very feasible) from lecturers, 86% (very feasible) from individuals, 90% (very feasible) from small groups and 89% (very feasible) from limited groups. Overall the textbook is very feasible to use.

Abstract

Pineapple is a plant whose fruit has economic value, so it needs to be developed on a plantation scale. This study aims to determine the best combination of media for the growth of in vitro rooting Sipahutar pineapple. Complete Random Design was used with 12 treatments with 3 replications in this study. The parameters used in the observation were divided into the number of shoots, number of leaves and number of roots. From the results of the data analyzed, it can be seen that in the treatment of MS+2 ppm Vitamin+2 ppm Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) media, the highest number of shoots was obtained, namely at 18.66 shoots on 12 week after planting (WAP) observations. The lowest number of shoots on leaves was 11.33, the results of data analysis showed that the highest number of leaf shoots was 8.00 on 12 WAP observations on MS+2 ppmVitamin+2 ppm NAA media treatment. From the treatment of MS media+1 ppm Vitamin+1 ppm NAA and MS+2 ppm Vitamin+0 ppm NAA, the lowest number of leaf shoots was obtained with an average of 0.33, while the results of data analysis on root propagation resulted in the highest number of leaf shoots 8.00 in.12 WAP observations on MS media+2 ppm Vitamin treatment.+2 ppm NAA. Abstract

Knowledge-acquaintance and experience the public about efficacious medicinal plants develop from time to time. The biodiversity of the flora in Nusantara is a valuable asset that it needs to be utilized. Each region has the potential nature and knowledge of medicinal plants inherited from an ancestor to should be preserved and developed. This study is to examine the potential medicinal plants in the local community of Pakpak ethnic that is occupied in the Sitinjo 1 village which is commonly used in society and daily life. This study was conducted in September-October 2021. The methodology method is observation and interviews and for the next identification of the plants in the field. The results of this study conducted in the villages around this village found that there are about 37 kinds of plant medicinal frequently used by people to treat various diseases. Medicinal plants are most commonly used in the Asteraceae, Solanaceae, and Zingiberaceae. Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the learning style on science process skill class XI digestive system in State Senior High School of Kisaran, Asahan. This method applied a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The population were all students of class XI there are 792 public schools in State Senior High Schools of Kisaran for the academic year of 2020/2021. Samples were taken from four school, each one class totaling 144 student by using purposive sampling. To obtain the data, the description test was used as an questionnaire to determine student learning styles. Hypothesis testing was carried out with multiple linear regression analysis with a significance level of 0,05. The research show that from learning style (visual, auditorial, kinesthetic, audio/visual, visual kinesthetic, auditorial/kinesthetic) the height result is visual with a percentage of 38.19. Then the student science process skills intrument with indicators such as observing, classifying, interpreting, predicting, asking questions, hypothesizing, planning experiments, applying concepts, and communicating in biology learning. The results on science process skills of the digestive system material were categorized as good with a score of 82.06 and the highest indicator for observing obtained a mean score of 86.63 with a very good category and the lowest indicator for applying the concept obtained score of 79.16 good category. Penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melihat efektivitas penggunaan laboratorium virtual untuk praktikum fisika umum di Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Universitas Negeri Medan. Untuk melihat tingkat efektivitas penggunaan laboraotrium virtual digunakan metode deskriptif dengan menerapkan pendekatan kuesioner (angket). Laboratorium Virtual mempermudah mahasiswa untuk melakukan praktikum fisika umum selama pembelajaran online. Media laboratorium virtual untuk praktikum fisika umum cukup efektiv. Kondisi ini dapat dilihat dari tanggapan responden terhadap video praktikum dan efektivitas penggunaan laboratorium virtual yang digunakan pada praktikum fisika umum. Hasil ini dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan kajian selanjutnya dan menjadi rujukan untuk perbaikan. Sehingga laboratorium virtual fisika umum dapat dipergunakan pada pembelajaran online dan tatap muka (blended learning).

Abstract

Orchid plants are one of the most popular types of ornamental plants because of their beauty and diversity, so this plant is widely cultivated and has a high selling value. Cattleya sp. orchid propagation using seeds takes a long time, which is about 4 to 7 years, so we need other ways to overcome this. To preserve this plant, it needs to in vitro technology. In vitro technique is one of the propagation technologies that is a solution to solve the problem of lack of seeds, because it can provide seeds in large quantities, uniform and independent of the season. The aim of this research was to determine the best interaction of growth regulator naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), benzyl amino purine (BAP) and interaction of both on growth induction of Cattleya sp. Cytokinin interact with auxins in determining the direction of cell differentiation. The research method used a completely random design with various concentrations of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA: 0, 0,2, 0,4 ppm) and benzyl amino purine concentration (BAP: 0, 1, 2, 3 ppm). The parameter observations are number of buds, leaves and roots. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially with ANOVA. The result showed there is no significantly effect of NAA, BAP and their interaction on number of buds, number of leaver and number of roots. Within 12 weeks of observation the highest number of buds, leaves and roots was obtained from combination of 0,4 ppm NAA+0 ppm BAP were 7, 25 and 10. The lowest number of buds, leaves and roots was obtained from combination 0 ppm NAA+0 ppm BAP were 0, 5 and 1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to compare: (1) High-level thinking skills and (2) Retention ofstudents' memory in respiratory system material in humans who are taught by usingpower point media and learning video media on respiratory system material in humans.This quasi-experimental study was conducted at SD RK No. 3 Sibolga City, with asample of 2 classes determined by cluster random sampling technique. The results of thestudy showed: (1) the high-level thinking skills of students who were taught with learningvideo media were better than students who were taught with power point media (63.06:56.96) which were significantly statistically significant (t = 2.100; p = 0.040), likewise(2) memory retention of students taught with learning video media is better than studentstaught with power point media (83.28: 78.03) which is significantly different (t = 2.728; p= 0.008 ) It is expected that the teacher can use learning video media in the material ofhuman respiratory system in an effort to improve students 'high-level thinking skills andstudents' natural science memory retention.

Nanas (Ananas comosus L.) pada mulanya hanya diketahuisebagai tanaman pekarangan, sekarang penanamannya sudahmenjadi tanaman perkebunan. Nanas merupakan tanaman yangperlu dikembangkan dalam skala perkebunan karena buahnyabernilai ekonomi, permintaan pasar, komoditi buah ekspor ketigadidunia setelah Negara Filipina dan Thailand. Komoditi nanastelah lama dibudidayakan di Indonesia, memiliki potensi eksporsangat besar, dapat dikembangkan sebagai buah segar maupununtuk diversifikasi olahan dengan bahan dasar, namunketersediaan tanaman ini masih kurang. Satu alternatif untukmeningkatkan pertumbuhan nanas yaitu dengan menerapkantehnik kultur jaringan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untukmengetahui 1) Pengaruh pemberian dosis Zat Pengatur Tumbuh(ZPT) Sitokinin (BAP) terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananascomosus L.) in vitro, 2) Pengaruh pemberian dosis ZPT Auksin(IAA) terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananas comosus L.) in vitro, 3)Pengaruh interaksi ZPT auksin (IAA) dan sitokinin (BAP)terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananas comosus L.) in vitro.Rancangan penelitian ini adalah factorial complete random design(CRD) dengan perlakuan yaitu 1). Dosis ZPT BAP terdiri dari 4taraf perlakuan yaitu, 0 ppm, 2 ppm, 4 ppm dan 6 ppm dan 2)Dosis ZPT IAA yang terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan yaitu 0 ppm, 0,5ppm, 1 ppm. Parameter pengamatan penelitian ini adalah datapertumbuhan yang diambil pada minggu ke 14 sesudahpenanaman, yaitu 1) Jumlah tunas, 2) Jumlah daun, 3) Jumlah akar.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 1) ZPT Sitokinin, auksin tidakberpengaruh terhadap jumlah tunas, interaksi keduanya mempengaruhi jumlah tunas. 2) ZPT Sitokinin, auksin berpengaruh terhadap jumlah daun, interaksi keduanya tidakmempengaruhi jumlah daun. 3). ZPT Sitokinin berpengaruhterhadap jumlah akar, Auksin dan interaksi keduanya tidakmempengaruhi jumlah akar. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi sitokininyang diberikan akan semakin menurunkan jumlah akar yangterbentuk.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the activity and student learning outcomes in science lessons class V Sd Private Sabilina Tembung Scientific approach. This research is action research (PTK). The samples in this study were 40 third-grade students for every cycle I and II. The results of the data analysis proved that an increase in activity and student learning outcomes. An increase in activity and student learning outcomes very well. The percentage gain scores for student activities at the beginning of the test trials was 30.00%. later in Cycle I obtained an average percentage score of 68.49%, for the results obtained in Cycle I study an average percentage of 82.50% completeness. later in Cycle II obtained an average percentage of 91.68% of student activity, and to learn the results obtained by an average of 92.65% completeness. Based on observations of the activities of teachers, students, teachers opinion, student responses and student learning outcomes that include classical mastery and purpose, then the Application of Scientific could be declared effective approach to teaching science.

Abstract

Manggis adalah salah satu buah asli Indonesia yang memiliki potensiekspor sangat besar, namun pertumbuhan tanaman ini sangat lambat. Alternatifuntuk meningkaikan pertumbuhannya yaitu melalui teknik kultur jaringan denganmemanjaatkan zat pengatur tumbuh (ZPT) Benzyl Adenine (BA). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) Pengaruh konsentrasi ZPT BA terhadappertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) in vitro, 2) Pengaruhukuran eksplan terhadap pertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) invitro, 3) Pengaruh interaksi ZPT BA dan ukuran eksplan terhadap pertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) in vitro. Bahan penelitian yangdigunakan adalah biji manggis dari lapang. Rancangan penelitian ini adalahRancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) Jaktorial dengan dua Jaktor perlakuan yaitu DosisZPT BA terdiri dari 4 taraf perlakuan, ukuran eksplan terdiri dari 3 tarafperlakuan, sehingga ada 12 kombinasi perlakuan. Eksplan biji disterilisasi dan ditumbuhkan dalam media MS dengan beberapa dosis ZPT BA (0 ppm, 2 ppm, 4 ppm, 6 ppm), dengan 3 ukuran eksplan (utuh, 1 cm, 2 cm). Parameter pengamatanpenelitian ini adalah 1) Waktu munculnya tunas, 2) Jumlah tunas, 3) Jumlah daun,4) Tinggi tanaman. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial denganANA VA RAL Jaktorial. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik, perlakuan konsenirasi BA(Benzyladenin) dan ukuran eksplan tidak memberkan pengaruh yang nyataterhadap periumbuhan manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) secara in vitro, padawaktu munculnya tunas, jumlah daun, tinggi tanaman dan juga jumlah tunas(interaksi AB), namun berdasarkan analisis statistic deskriptif, pertumbuhan tunaspada jumlah tunas umur 12 MST, Jaktor A (konsentrasi BA ) memberikanpengaruh terhadap jumlah tunas. Periumbuhan tunas yang paling cepat pada umur 3 MST pada perlakuan konsentrasi 4 ppm dengan ukuran eksplan 2 cm, jumlahtunas paling tinggi dicapai dengan rata - rata 5,99 (4 ppm ukuran 2 cm), jumlahdaun paling tinggi dicapai dengan rata - rata 6,53 ( 4 ppm ukuran utuh) danjumlah daun paling banyak 9 helai (4 ppm ukuran 2 ), sedangkan tinggi tanaman tertinggi dicapai pada perlakuan ( 4 ppm ukuran utuh) yaitu rata - rata 6,29.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of students’ worksheet (LKPD) based on process skills of science and motivation level learning outcomes of science. This study was a quasy experiment with factorial 2x2 design. The study population is grade IV SD Negeri 164330 Padang Hilir District, Tebingtinggi City, and the sample was chosen by total sampling as two classes. The instruments used is test, motivation questionnaire, and observation sheet of scientific attitude. Data obtained from the study instrument then analyzed with using the two-way anova. The results showed that: (1) the effect of LKPD based on process skills of science towards the learning outcomes of science is better than conventional LKPD; (2) the effect of high motivation towards the learning outcomes of science is better than low motivation; (3) there is an interaction between LKPD based on process skills of science and conventional LKPD with motivation level in influencing learning outcomes of science; and (4) the scientific attitude of students using LKPD based on process skills of science is better than the conventional LKPD. The results of this study suggest that LKPD based on process skills of science and high learning motivation is an alternative choice of teachers in improving students' learning outcomes of science.
