This study proposed and validated a mediation model based on the nearest developmental zone and mediation concepts of sociocultural theory to explore the mediating role of emotional intelligence and ethnic categories between teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy among high school students in Tibetan areas of China. A questionnaire survey was administered to 422 Tibetan high school students (including 136 Han Chinese students and 286 Tibetan students) using the Feedback Literacy Scale, the Teacher-Student Relationship Scale, and the Emotional Intelligence Scale. The results showed that teacher-student relationships of high school students in Tibetan areas significantly and positively predicted their feedback literacy. The result of the mediation model analysis indicated that the emotional intelligence of high school students in Tibetan areas partially mediated the effect between teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy. In addition, the moderated mediation model analysis indicated that the teacher-student relationship had a stronger effect on feedback literacy through emotional intelligence for Han Chinese high school students than for Tibetan high school students. The present findings not only enrich our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the influence of teacher-student relationships and feedback literacy, but also reveal the differential role played by ethnic categories. The study also provides a discussion of the results, corresponding recommendations, and directions for future research.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. There are limited therapeutic options for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancers which fail first-line chemotherapy. Phase I/II studies showed that the combined application of the raltitrexed and irinotecan has significant synergistic effect and acceptable toxicity. However, most of these previous studies have relatively small sample size. Methods This is a prospective open-label, single-arm, multi-center, Phase II trial. Brief inclusion criteria: patients were aged 18 to 75 years with locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer after failure of 5-FU and oxaliplatin therapy. Enrolled patients received raltitrexed (3 mg/m2, d1) and irinotecan (180 mg/m2, d1) each 21-day cycle until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival, and the secondary endpoints were disease control rate, objective response rate, overall survival and safety. Results A total of 108 patients were enrolled between September 2016 and May 2020. The median age was 61 years, ECOG 1 score accounts for 67.6%, the rest were ECOG 0. A total of 502 cycles were completed, with an average of 4.6 cycles and a median of 4 cycles. 108 patients were evaluated, with an objective response rate of 17.6%, and disease control rate of 76.9%. The median follow-up time was 27 months (range:3.1–61.0 m) at data cut-off on March 2023. Median progression-free survival was 4.9 months (95% CI 4.1–5.7) and median overall survival was 13.1 months (95% CI 12.2–15.5). The most common adverse events that were elevated are alanine aminotransferase increased, aspartate aminotransferase increased, fatigue, diarrhoea, neutrocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypohemoglobin, and leukocytopenia. Most of the adverse events were Grade I/II, which were relieved after symptomatic treatment, and there were no treatment-related cardiotoxicities and deaths. Conclusions The combination of raltitrexed and irinotecan as second-line treatment for mCRC could be a reliable option after failure of standard 5-Fu-first-line chemotherapy in locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancers, especially for patients with 5-FU intolerance (cardiac events or DPD deficiency patients). Abstract Multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging is crucial in accurately identifying knee abnormalities but requires substantial expertise from radiologists to interpret. Here, we introduce a deep learning model incorporating co-plane attention across image sequences to classify knee abnormalities. To assess the effectiveness of our model, we collected the largest multi-sequence knee magnetic resonance imaging dataset involving the most comprehensive range of abnormalities, comprising 1748 subjects and 12 types of abnormalities. Our model achieved an overall area under the receiver operating characteristic curve score of 0.812. It achieved an average accuracy of 0.78, outperforming junior radiologists (accuracy 0.65) and remains competitive with senior radiologists (accuracy 0.80). Isothermal compression tests were conducted out on the Mg–9Li–3Al-1(La/Ce) (wt.%) alloy under different deformation parameter through a Gleeble-3500 thermal-mechanical simulator. The flow curves at high strain rates exhibit a ''serrated flow”, which is a dynamic strain aging behavior. R = 0.9253 and AARE = 7.64% quantified the accuracy of the constitutive equations, indicating that this equation has reliable predictive ability. The thermal processing maps indicated that the safe processing region is T = 537–623 K, ε˙ = 0.041–0.001 s−1. This alloy has excellent formability. When deformation is at T = 473 K, ε˙ = 1 s−1, there are more deformed grains in two phases, and broken β-Li grains distributed in chains along the RD. In addition, some α-Mg phases precipitated from the β-Li phase, distributed along the β-Li grain boundaries, and they were dominated by recrystallized grains with low dislocation density. High-density dislocation regions located both at the grain boundaries and inside the grains. When deformation is at T = 473 K, ε˙ = 0.01 s−1, all the deformed grains in two phases decreased with decreasing strain rate, and they transformed more into substructures. The high-density dislocation regions inside the grains gradually disappear. Additionally, the size of precipitated α-Mg phase increased slightly, which is still predominantly located at the grain boundaries. When deformation is at T = 623 K, ε˙ = 0.01 s−1, the degree of recrystallization increases significantly with increasing temperature. The high-density dislocation regions almost disappeared. Interestingly, large amounts of α-Mg grains precipitated inside the β-Li grains.

Salvia Miltiorrhiza, extensively distributed and commonly employed as a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, has garnered significant attention. In this study, the Salvia Miltiorrhiza extract (SME) was prepared by one-step water extraction method, and was firstly used as a novel corrosion inhibitor for Q235 steel in 1 mol/L HCl solution. As identified via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, the findings reveal that Salvianic acid A, tanshinone II A, danshenxinkun D, dihydrotanshinone, and methylene tanshinquinone are the primary constituents of SME. The optimum corrosion inhibition efficiency reached 92.8 % at 200 mg/L and maintained at 90.4 % after 72 h. Based on in-situ scanning vibration electrode technology (SVET) monitoring, the adsorption of inhibitor molecules on metal surface greatly retarded the propagation of localized corrosion. AFM examination of the corroded surface reveals that the samples supplemented with SME exhibit a smoother surface compared to the blank group. The force curve graph for the SME-added group demonstrates a more evenly distributed point array and an elevated average adhesion force, indicating that the addition of SME improves the corrosion resistance of the metal surface. XPS characterization illustrated that SME interacted with iron ions to form insoluble precipitate. This work investigated the application of SME as an eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in acidic medium, providing a new approach for the high value-added utilization of Salvia Milliorrhiza.

The sulfate process for bamboo pulp production encounters silicon interference during the pulping stage, necessitating desilication before the alkali recovery section. This study investigated the desilication of bamboo pulping black liquor (BPBL), demonstrating that silicon was removed effectively by adding Mg/Al compound desilication agent to the BPBL via burning at high temperature. The desilication extent can reach 84% when the desilication agent is added in the proportion of Mg/Al (magnesium sulfate and sodium metaluminate) in the ratio 1.25:0.75. Subsequently, less-silicon white mud (LSWM) can be prepared after black liquor (BL) combustion desilication. LSWM was compared with normal WM as a blank sample, and the morphology and physicochemical properties of two kinds of WM were characterized. X-ray diffractometry revealed that both types of WM are primarily composed of calcite crystalline CaCO3 and hydrated CaSiO3. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and particle size analysis demonstrated the reduced content of CaSiO3 generated in the LSWM. This result indicated that the Mg/Al compound desilication agent removed the silicon from the green liquor (GL), thereby reducing the residual silicon in WM. This reduction is beneficial to the calcination recovery and comprehensive utilization of WM.

The natural bone structure exhibits a radial gradient with dense cortical bone externally and porous cancellous bone internally. However, previous studies proposing scaffold designs have predominantly focused on homogeneous porous structures. Moreover, no consensus exists on the optimal structure for gradient porous scaffolds. Our scaffold closely imitated the natural bone structure by incorporating a gradient of pillar diameters. Additionally, we introduced a inverse gradient structure and three uniform diameter pillar structures (400 μm, 600 μm, and 1000 μm) for comparative analysis. Mechanical testing revealed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of the Ti6Al4V porous scaffolds gradually increased with an increase in pillar diameter. In vitro experiments demonstrated that both the biomimetic gradient and inverse gradient scaffolds promoted osteogenic differentiation, with higher ALP activity (alkaline phosphatase) and osteogenesis-related gene expression compared to the uniform pillar structure scaffolds. The in vivo experiments confirmed these results, highlighting the superior ability of the biomimetic gradient Ti6Al4V porous scaffold to induce new bone formation. Based on our findings, we suggest that the optimal porous structure should have fine-diameter pillars (approximately 400 μm) internally to enhance cell penetration, while coarse-diameter pillars (approximately 800 μm) should be used externally to increase the cell attachment area and enhance mechanical strength. Overall, our study contributes to the field of bone tissue engineering by providing a biomimetic scaffold design that closely imitates the structure of natural bone and promotes osteogenic activity.

Enhancing the piezoelectricity of CaBi4Ti4O15 (CBT) ceramics is crucial for improving their application potential in high-temperature piezoelectric devices. Here, we propose a strategy involving the introduction of larger Na/Bi ions at the A-site, effectively inhibiting the tilt of oxygen octahedra and flattening the potential energy profile. This flattening enhances the variation in polarization under external fields. Concurrently, substituting Nb/Mn at the B-site increases the deviation between positive and negative ionic centers, leading to stronger spontaneous polarization, while the induced defect dipoles restrict oxygen vacancy migration and increase the direct current resistivity (ρdc). The flattened potential energy profile and increased spontaneous polarization significantly enhance the overall performance of CBT ceramics, with the piezoelectric constant (d33) reaching 25 pC/N when the Curie temperature (TC) = 752 °C. Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed submicron-long rectangular domains and nanoscale domains in the modified composition, indicating a high density of domain walls. This study presents an effective approach for enhancing the piezoelectric properties of bismuth layered-structured ferroelectrics (BLSFs), thereby improving the application potential of BLSFs at high temperatures.

The malicious mining pool can sacrifice part of its revenue to employ the computing power of blockchain network. The employed computing power carries out the pool mining attacks on the attacked mining pool. To realize the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee, the paper proposes an Employment Attack Pricing Algorithm (EAPA) of mining pools in blockchain based on game theory. In the EAPA, the paper uses mathematical formulas to express the revenue of malicious mining pools under the employment attack, the revenue increment of malicious mining pools, and the revenue of the employee. It establishes a game model between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the employment attack. Then, the paper proposes an optimal computing power price selection strategy of employment attack based on model derivation. In the strategy, the malicious mining pool analyzes the conditions for the employment attack, and uses the derivative method to find the optimal utilization value of computing power, employees analyze the conditions for accepting employment, and use the derivative method to find the optimal reward value of computing power. Finally, the strategy finds the optimal employment computing power price to realize Nash equilibrium between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the current computing power allocation. The simulation results show that the EAPA could find the employment computing power price that realizes the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee. The EAPA also maximizes the unit computing power revenue of employment and the unit computing power revenue of honest mining in malicious mining pool at the same time. The EAPA outperforms the state-of-the-art methods such as SPSUCP, DPSACP, and FPSUCP.

Abstract The diagnosis of early prostate cancer depends on the accurate segmentation of prostate regions in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, this segmentation task is challenging due to the particularities of prostate MR images themselves and the limitations of existing methods. To address these issues, we propose a U-shaped encoder-decoder network MM-UNet based on Mamba and CNN for prostate segmentation in MR images. Specifically, we first proposed an adaptive feature fusion module based on channel attention guidance to achieve effective fusion between adjacent hierarchical features and suppress the interference of background noise. Secondly, we propose a global context-aware module based on Mamba, which has strong long-range modeling capabilities and linear complexity, to capture global context information in images. Finally, we propose a multi-scale anisotropic convolution module based on the principle of parallel multi-scale anisotropic convolution blocks and 3D convolution decomposition. Experimental results on two public prostate MR image segmentation datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms competing models in terms of prostate segmentation performance and achieves state-of-the-art performance. In future work, we intend to enhance the model's robustness and extend its applicability to additional medical image segmentation tasks.

Abstract Background The relationship between gut microbiota and vertigo, specifically Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPV) and Vertigo of Central (VC), remains underexplored. Aim and hypotheses This study aims to investigate the causal relationships between gut microbiota and two types of vertigo, BPV and VC. Additionally, the study seeks to explore the mediation effects of metabolic, inflammatory, and psychological factors on these relationships. We hypothesize that specific taxa of gut microbiota have a causal effect on the risk of developing BPV and VC. The mediation effects of HbA1c, obesity, major depression, and interleukin-18 levels significantly influence the relationships between gut microbiota and vertigo. Method Utilizing a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization approach, this study investigated causal associations between gut microbiota and the two types of vertigo. A network MR assessed mediation effects of HbA1c, major depression, obesity, and interleukin-18 levels, with data sourced from several consortia, including MiBioGen. Results Distinct gut microbiota displayed varying influences on BPV and VC risks. A total of ten taxa affect BPV. Among these, two taxa have an odds ratio (OR) greater than 1, including one class, one order. Conversely, eight taxa have an OR less than 1, encompassing four families, three genera, and one order. The OR for these taxa ranges from 0.693 to 0.930, with p-values between 0.006 and 0.048. For VC, eight taxa were found to have an impact. Five of these taxa exhibit an OR greater than 1, including four genera and one phylum. The OR for these taxa ranges from 1.229 to 2.179, with p-values from 0.000 to 0.046. The remaining three taxa have an OR less than 1, comprising one family and two genera, with an OR range of 0.445 to 0.792 and p-values ranging from 0.013 to 0.050. The mediation analysis for BPV shows that major depression, obesity, and HbA1c are key mediators between specific taxa and BPV. Major depression mediates 28.77% of the effect of family Rhodospirillaceae on BPV. Obesity mediates 13.90% of the effect of class Lentisphaeria/order Victivallales. HbA1c mediates 11.79% of the effect of genus Bifidobacterium, 11.36% of family Bifidobacteriaceae/order Bifidobacteriales. For VC, interleukin-18 levels and major depression are significant mediators. Interleukin-18 levels mediate 6.56% of the effect of phylum Actinobacteria. Major depression mediates 6.51% of the effect of genus Alloprevotella. Conclusion The study highlights potential causal links between gut microbiota and vertigo, emphasizing metabolic and psychological mediators. These insights underscore the therapeutic potential of targeting gut health in vertigo management.

Abstract In van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs), the manipulation of interlayer stacking/coupling allows for the construction of customizable quantum systems exhibiting exotic physics. An illustrative example is the diverse range of states of matter achieved through varying the proximity coupling between two-dimensional (2D) quantum spin liquid (QSL) and superconductors within the TaS2 family. This study presents a demonstration of the intertwined physics of spontaneous rotational symmetry breaking, hidden magnetism, and Ising superconductivity (SC) in the three-fold rotationally symmetric, non-magnetic natural vdWHs 6R-TaS2. A distinctive phase emerges in 6R-TaS2 below a characteristic temperature (T *) of approximately 30 K, which is characterized by a remarkable set of features, including a giant extrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE), Kondo screening, magnetic field-tunable thermal hysteresis, and nematic magneto-resistance. At lower temperatures, a coexistence of nematicity and Kondo screening with Ising superconductivity is observed, providing compelling evidence of hidden magnetism within a superconductor. This research not only sheds light on unexpected emergent physics resulting from the coupling of itinerant electrons and localized/correlated electrons in natural vdWHs but also emphasizes the potential for tailoring exotic quantum states through the manipulation of interlayer interactions.

Abstract Electric vehicles are promoted as ‘clean’ technologies and offer promising reductions in transportation emissions. Nevertheless, their environmental benefits critically depend on the local electricity grid mix and the type of emission being considered. Here, we conduct a comparative life cycle assessment of the four dominant light-duty vehicle categories at both the global scale and in three representative countries: Norway, the US, and China. By analyzing different environmental indicators, particularly global warming potential and respiratory effects, and quantifying related parametric uncertainties, we reveal that the advantages of electric vehicles vary across these regions and across environmental impact types. While electric vehicles offer considerable decarbonization potential as the grid mix becomes cleaner, they might not mitigate other environmental impacts, such as increased respiratory effects on rural, low-income communities. Our results support stakeholders in identifying environmentally friendly vehicle and policy options while considering multiple factors, and emphasize the importance of tailored approaches over one-size-fits-all solutions in sustainable transportation.

As a kind of renewable and high oxygen content fuel, polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether (PODE) can be added in diesel to realize energy saving and emissions reduction. To evaluate the combustion and emission characteristics of a diesel engine fueled with diesel and diesel/PODE mixtures, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and main-pilot injection strategies with various injection timings were applied. PODE was blended with diesel by volume to form mixtures which were marked as D100 (pure diesel), D90P10 (90% diesel + 10% PODE), and D80P20 (80% diesel + 20% PODE). The results showed that the ignition delay (ID) and combustion duration (CD) of D80P20 were the shortest because of the highest cetane number (CN) and high oxygen content of PODE, indicating more concentrated heat release. At low and medium loads, D80P20 achieved the highest peak heat release ratio (PHRR) and peak combustion temperature (PCT) among the three fuels, and it was 14.3% and 3.6% higher than those of D100. PODE blending with diesel can significantly reduce particulate matter (PM) and D80P20 has the lowest PM emissions at all loads. Compared with D100, both PM and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of PODE blends decreased simultaneously with 20% EGR at all loads. With the increase of pilot-main interval, the ID and CD of all test fuels increased, while the NOx and PM emissions decreased. The conclusions of the present research provide a state of the application in light-duty engines fueled with diesel/PODE blends in future work.

In borehole monitoring for deep displacement, the abrupt characteristics of inclinometer curves are the key basis for identifying the sliding surface. Previous studies have summarized several types of inclinometer curve patterns that exhibit significant sliding surface signals, including “B” “D”and “r” types. For “D” type inclinometer curves, the convex point of the curve is typically used as the position of the sliding surface. However, this method is susceptible to the influence of observation points spacing and coordinate observation scales, which can result in an unclear definition of the sliding surface position and uncertain numerical values. To overcome these drawbacks and improve the accuracy of sliding surface identification in inclinometer curves, a generalized model of landslides composed of “sliding body” “sliding interval” and “immovable body” was developed based on the variation characteristics of the “D” type inclinometer curve. A mechanical strut model subjected to external loads was established based on the different flexural rigidity of the three members, and the deformation characteristics of soil at different depths during landslide movement were analyzed in depth. The study found that the sliding surface of “D” curve does not entirely penetrate, leading to continuous soil deformation along the depth direction without abrupt change. The demarcation point of the positive and negative bending moments in the mechanical model is a location where the horizontal displacement of deformation curve is the largest, which can reflect the real deformation characteristics of the landslide and the position of the sliding surface. By converted the accumulated soil displacement into relative displacement, the “D” type inclinometer curve is transformed into “S” type relative displacement-depth curve, and the inflection point of the “S” type curve is close to the position of the sliding surface. By extracting the average relative displacement of soil at different depths during the monitoring period and calculating the depth value of the inflection point in the “S” type segment by using the cubic spline interpolation method, the position of the sliding surface can be determined more accurately, which can greatly improve the reliability and accuracy of deep displacement monitoring and has significant practical value.

Abstract Intracranial aneurysm is the primary cause of nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. To assess aneurysm metabolism, we present a method of intra-operatively collecting blood samples from the aneurysm neck, as well as the proximal and distal responsible vessels, using microcatheters. Through these paired comparisons, we can eliminate the interpatient variation usually observed in plasma samples taken from the peripheral vein. We utilized 39 plasma samples from 13 intracranial patients to characterize the metabolite profiles using untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Our findings revealed that l-tyrosine is upregulated at relatively high levels at the aneurysm neck than the proximal and distal aneurysm, whereas phenylpyruvic acid, l-cystine, and l-ornithine are downregulated. Based on this, there was also a significant decrease in arginine within small aneurysm of the internal carotid artery. The 6-month follow-up indicated that patients who experienced good recovery had lower levels of biliverdin, bilirubin, and metabolites of coenzyme Q within the aneurysm. In conclusion, our investigation provides a comprehensive overview of plasma metabolites in patients with intracranial aneurysms, shedding light on potential pathogenetic mechanisms in unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Moreover, the study proposes innovative ideas for establishing postoperative follow-up timelines for flow diverter devices.

Abstract Background Chitinase-3 like-protein-1 (CHI3L1) is a member of the mammalian chitinase-like proteins and elevated serum CHI3L1 level has been proved to be associated with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum CHI3L1 levels and body composition parameters in patients with HCC after liver transplantation (LT). Methods This retrospective study enrolled 200 patients after LT for HCC. Blood samples were collected and serum concentrations of CHI3L1 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Computer tomography (CT) were used to estimate skeletal muscle and adipose tissue mass. Spearman’s rank correlation test was performed to assess associations between serum CHI3L1 levels and these body composition parameters. A Cox proportional-hazards regression model was performed to identify independent prognostic factors. Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) curves were constructed using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the log-rank test. Results Total 71 patients (35.5%) were diagnosed with myosteatosis according to skeletal muscle radiation attenuation (SMRA). The 5-year OS rates were 66.9% in non-myosteatosis group, significantly higher than 49.5% in myosteatosis group (p = 0.025), while the RFS of myosteatosis group (5-year RFS: 52.6%) or non-myosteatosis group (5-year RFS: 42.0%) shown no significant difference (p = 0.068). Abstract The field of nickel catalysis has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. However, the use of nickel catalysts in enantioselective C–H activation remains a daunting challenge because of their variable oxidation states, intricate coordination chemistry, and unpredictable reactivity patterns. Herein, we report an enantioselective C–H activation reaction catalyzed by commercially available and air-stable nickel(II) catalyst. Readily available and simple (S)-BINOL is used as a chiral ligand. This operationally simple protocol enables the synthesis of planar chiral metallocenes in high yields with excellent enantioselectivity through desymmetrization and kinetic resolution. Air-stable planar chiral nickelacycle intermediates are first synthesized via enantioselective C–H nickelation and shown to be possible intermediates of the reaction. Deuterium-labeling studies, alongside the characterization and transformation of chiral nickel(II) species, suggest that C–H cleavage is the enantio-determining step. Moreover, the large-scale synthesis and diverse synthetic transformations underscore the practicality of this protocol.

Abstract Peritoneal recurrence (PR) in gastric cancer after curative resection has poor prognosis. Therefore, we aimed to construct a nomogram to predict PR, and establish PR score for risk stratification to guide adjuvant chemotherapy. A total of 315 patients with gastric cancer after radical surgery were included, and randomly stratified into training group (n = 221) and validation group (n = 94). Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine predictive factors of PR. The nomogram was constructed to predict the risk of PR. We utilized the time-dependent area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) to evaluate the performance of the nomogram. Multivariate analysis showed that tumor site, N stage, preoperative CEA, and postoperative CA199 were independent predictors of PR. A nomogram was constructed to predict PR based on these factors. The AUC value was 0.755 in the training group and 0.715 in the validation group. The calibration curves showed good agreement between prediction and observation in the training and validation groups. The decision curve analysis displayed a good net benefit of the nomogram. The novel PR score was developed and patients were stratified into the low-, medium-, and high -risk groups. For the high-risk group, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy significantly improved patients' overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). The establishment of nomogram facilitates the prediction of PR after radical gastrectomy, and a novel PR score may help guide adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer.

Abstract Background Advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma lacks effective treatment options, and systemic gemcitabine-based chemotherapy offers only marginal survival benefits at the cost of significant toxicities and adverse events. New therapeutic options with better drug availability are warranted. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of digital subtraction angiography (DSA)-guided pancreatic arterial infusion (PAI) versus intravenous chemotherapy (IVC) using the gemcitabine and oxaliplatin (GEMOX) regimen in unresectable locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer (PC) patients. Materials and methods This study prospectively enrolled 51 eligible treatment-naive patients with unresectable PC to receive GEMOX treatment via PAI or IVC (1:1 ratio randomization) from December 2015 to December 2019. Cycles were repeated monthly, and each process consisted of two treatments administered bi-weekly. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), 1-year survival, 6-month survival, tumor-site subgroup survival, and incidences of adverse events were compared. Results The median OS of the PAI and IVC groups were 9.93 months and 10.07 months, respectively (p = 0.3049). The median PFS of the PAI and IVC groups were 5.07 months and 4.23 months (p = 0.1088). No significant differences were found in the ORR (11.54% vs. 4%, p = 0.6312), DCR (53.85% vs. 44%, p = 0.482), and 1-year OS rate (44% vs. 20.92%, p = 0.27) in PAI and IVC groups. The 6-month OS rate was significantly higher in the PAI group (100%) than in the IVC group (83.67%) (p = 0.0173). The median OS of patients in PAI group with pancreatic head and neck tumors were significantly higher than those of body and tail tumors (12.867 months vs. 9 months, p = 0.0214). The incidences of hematologic disorders, liver function disorders, and digestive disorders in the IVC group were higher than in the PAI group (p < 0.05). Conclusion GEMOX PAI therapy presented a higher 6-month OS rate and fewer adverse events than IVC in advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients. Those with pancreatic head and neck tumors may yield a superior treatment outcome from PAI treatment. Trial registration number NCT02635971. Date of registration 21/12/2015.

Abstract Members of the Metal Tolerance Protein (MTP) family are critical in mediating the transport and tolerance of divalent metal cations. Despite their significance, the understanding of MTP genes in mustard (Brassica juncea) remains limited, especially regarding their response to heavy metal (HM) stress. In our study, we identified MTP gene sets in Brassica rapa (17 genes), Brassica nigra (18 genes), and B. juncea (33 genes) using the HMMER (Cation_efflux; PF01545) and BLAST analysis. For the 33 BjMTPs, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis covering the physicochemical properties, phylogenetic relationships, conserved motifs, protein structures, collinearity, spatiotemporal RNA-seq expression, GO enrichment, and expression profiling under six HM stresses (Mn2+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Sb3+, and Pb2+) were carried out. According to the findings of physicochemical characteristics, phylogenetic tree, and collinearity, the allopolyploid B. juncea’s MTP genes were inherited from its progenitors, B. rapa and B. nigra, with minimal gene loss during polyploidization. Members of the BjMTP family exhibited conserved motifs, promoter elements, and expression patterns across subgroups, consistent with the seven evolutionary branches (G1, G4–G9, and G12) of the MTPs. Further, spatiotemporal expression profiling under HM stresses successfully identified specific genes and crucial cis-regulatory elements associated with the response of BjMTPs to HM stresses. These findings may contribute to the genetic improvement of B. juncea for enhanced HM tolerance, facilitating the remediation of HM-contaminated areas.

Abstract Background Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) often have coronary artery disease (CAD), but the biological link between them remains unclear. This study aims to explore the common pathogenesis of AF and CAD and identify common biomarkers. Methods Gene expression profiles for AF and stable CAD were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Overlapping genes related to both diseases were identified using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), followed by functional enrichment analysis. Hub genes were then identified using the machine learning algorithm. Immune cell infiltration and correlations with hub genes were explored, followed by drug predictions. Hub gene expression in AF and CAD patients was validated by real-time qPCR. Results We obtained 28 common overlapping genes in AF and stable CAD, mainly enriched in the PI3K-Akt, ECM-receptor interaction, and relaxin signaling pathway. Two hub genes, COL6A3 and FKBP10, were positively correlated with the abundance of MDSC, plasmacytoid dendritic cells, and regulatory T cells in AF and negatively correlated with the abundance of CD56dim natural killer cells in CAD. The AUCs of COL6A3 and FKBP10 were all above or close to 0.7. Drug prediction suggested that collagenase clostridium histolyticum and ocriplasmin, which target COL6A3, may be potential drugs for AF and stable CAD. Additionally, COL6A3 and FKBP10 were upregulated in patients with AF and CAD. Conclusion COL6A3 and FKBP10 may be key biomarkers for AF and CAD, providing new insights into the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Abstract Ionogels are promising material candidates for ionotronics due to their excellent ionic conductivity, stretchability, and thermal stability. However, it is challenging to develop 3D printable ionogels with both excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Here, we report a highly conductive and stretchable nanostructured (CSN) ionogel for 3D printing ionotronic sensors. We propose the photopolymerization-induced microphase separation strategy to prepare the CSN ionogels comprising continuous conducting nanochannels intertwined with cross-linked polymeric framework. The resultant CSN ionogels simultaneously achieves high ionic conductivity (over 3 S m−1), high stretchability (over 1500%), low degree of hysteresis (0.4% at 50% strain), wide-temperature-range thermostability (−72 to 250 °C). Moreover, its high compatible with DLP 3D printing enables the fabrication of complex ionogel micro-architectures with high resolution (up to 5 μm), which allows us to manufacture capacitive sensors with superior sensing performances. The proposed CSN ionogel paves an efficient way to manufacture the next-generation capacitive sensors with enhanced performance.

Abstract Immune checkpoint blockade therapy targeting the programmed death-1(PD-1) pathway has shown remarkable efficacy and durable response in patients with various cancer types. Early prediction of therapeutic efficacy is important for optimizing treatment plans and avoiding potential side effects. In this work, we developed an efficient machine learning prediction method using routine hematologic and biochemical parameters to predict the efficacy of PD-1 combination treatment in Pan-Cancer patients. A total of 431 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, esophageal cancer and lung cancer who underwent PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor combination therapy were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups: progressive disease (PD) and disease control (DC) groups. Hematologic and biochemical parameters were collected before and at the third week of PD-1 therapy. Six machine learning models were developed and trained to predict the efficacy of PD-1 combination therapy at 8–12 weeks. Analysis of 57 blood biomarkers before and after three weeks of PD-1 combination therapy through statistical analysis, heatmaps, and principal component analysis did not accurately predict treatment outcome. However, with machine learning models, both the AdaBoost classifier and GBDT demonstrated high levels of prediction efficiency, with clinically acceptable AUC values exceeding 0.7. The AdaBoost classifier exhibited the highest performance among the 6 machine learning models, with a sensitivity of 0.85 and a specificity of 0.79. Our study demonstrated the potential of machine learning to predict the efficacy of PD-1 combination therapy based on changes in hematologic and biochemical parameters.

Abstract This study investigated how structural parameters (including injection ducts and exhaust nozzle inner diameters) affect the internal flow field and dilution ratio of diesel particulate sampling diluters. Increasing air injection duct diameter increased the injection chamber pressure and decreased the air velocity peak, mixed gas flow velocity, sample temperature, and mixing rate. Excessively small tube diameters caused uneven and discontinuous flow field distributions, while substantial air blockage rendered the flow state poor. Increasing nozzle inner diameters increased the exhaust flow area and the sample temperature, but decreased the velocity of the exhaust and gas mixtures and the pressure drop. The exploitation of shale gas is promising due to depletion of the conventional energy and intensification of the greenhouse effect. In this paper, we proposed a heat-fluid-solid coupling damage model of supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) compound fracturing which is expected to be an efficient and environmentally friendly way to develop shale gas. The coupling model is solved by the finite element method, and the results are in good agreement with the analytical solutions and fracturing experiments. Based on this model, the fracture propagation characteristics at the two stages of compound fracturing are studied and the influence of pressurization rate, in situ stress, bedding angle, and other factors are considered. The results show that at the SC-CO2 fracturing stage, a lower pressurization rate is conducive to formation of the branches around main fractures, while a higher pressurization rate inhibits formation of the branches around main fractures and promotes formation of the main fractures. Both bedding and in situ stress play a dominant role in the fracture propagation. When the in situ stress ratio (σx/σy) is 1, the presence of bedding can reduce the initiation pressure and failure pressure. Nevertheless, it will cause the fracture to propagate along the bedding direction, reducing the fracture complexity. In rocks without bedding, hydraulic fracturing has the lengthening and widening effects for SC-CO2 induced fracture. In shale, fractures induced at the hydraulic fracturing stage are more likely to be dominated by in situ stresses and have a shorter reorientation radius. Therefore, fracture branches propagating along the maximum principal stress direction may be generated around the main fractures induced by SC-CO2 at the hydraulic fracturing stage. When the branches converge with the main fractures, fracture zones are easily formed, and thus the fracture complexity and damage area can be significantly increased. The results are instructive for the design and application of SC-CO2 compound fracturing.

Abstract Background Previous studies have shown controversy about whether dried fruit intake is associated with type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to examine the potential causal effect of dried fruit intake on type 2 diabetes by conducting a two-sample Mendelian randomization study. Methods We used genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for MR analysis to explore the causal association of dried fruit intake with T2D. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the main analytical method for MR analysis. In addition, the MR-Egger method and the weighted median method were applied to supplement the IVW method. Furthermore, Cochrane’s Q test, MR-Egger intercept test, and leave-one-out analysis were used to perform sensitivity analysis. The funnel plot was used to assess publication bias. Results The results from the IVW analysis indicated that dried fruit intake could reduce the risk of T2D [odds ratio (OR) = 0.392, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.241–0.636, p-value = 0.0001]. In addition, the result of additional method Weighted median is parallel to the effects estimated by IVW. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis illustrates that our MR analysis was unaffected by heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy. Finally, the results of the leave-one-out method showed the robustness of our MR results. And the funnel plot shows a symmetrical distribution. Conclusion Our study provides evidence for the benefits of dried fruit intake on T2D. Therefore, a reasonable consumption of dried fruit may provide primary prevention.

Abstract The senescence of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells (NPCs), which is induced by the anomalous accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), is a major cause of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). In this research, glutathione-doped carbon dots (GSH-CDs), which are novel carbon dot antioxidant nanozymes, were successfully constructed to remove large amounts of ROS for the maintenance of NP tissue at the physical redox level. After significantly scavenging endogenous ROS via exerting antioxidant activities, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and total antioxidant capacity, GSH-CDs with good biocompatibility have been demonstrated to effectively improve mitochondrial dysfunction and rescue NPCs from senescence, catabolism, and inflammatory factors in vivo and in vitro. In vivo imaging data and histomorphological indicators, such as the disc height index (DHI) and Pfirrmann grade, demonstrated prominent improvements in the progression of IVDD after the topical application of GSH-CDs. In summary, this study investigated the GSH-CDs nanozyme, which possesses excellent potential to inhibit the senescence of NPCs with mitochondrial lesions induced by the excessive accumulation of ROS and improve the progression of IVDD, providing potential therapeutic options for clinical treatment. Abstract Autophagy, an intracellular self‐degradation process, is governed by a complex interplay of signaling pathways and interactions between proteins and organelles. Its fundamental purpose is to efficiently clear and recycle cellular components that are damaged or redundant. Central to this process are autophagic vesicles, specialized structures that encapsulate targeted cellular elements, playing a pivotal role in autophagy. Despite growing interest in the molecular components of autophagic machinery and their regulatory mechanisms, capturing the detailed ultrastructural dynamics of autophagosome formation continues to present significant challenges. However, recent advancements in microscopy, particularly in electron microscopy, have begun to illuminate the dynamic regulatory processes underpinning autophagy. This review endeavors to provide an exhaustive overview of contemporary research on the ultrastructure of autophagic processes. By synthesizing observations from diverse technological methodologies, this review seeks to deepen our understanding of the genesis of autophagic vesicles, their membrane origins, and the dynamic alterations that transpire during the autophagy process. The aim is to bridge gaps in current knowledge and foster a more comprehensive comprehension of this crucial cellular mechanism.

Abstract Background Idiopathic acute transverse myelitis (IATM) is a focal inflammatory disorder of the spinal cord that results in motor, sensory, and autonomic dysfunction. However, the comparative analysis of MRI-negative and MRI-positive in IATM patients were rarely reported. Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare MRI-negative with MRI-positive groups in IATM patients, analyze the predictors for a poor prognosis, thus explore the relationship between MRI-negative and prognosis. Methods We selected 132 patients with first-attack IATM at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from May 2018 to May 2022. Patients were divided into MRI-positive and MRI-negative group according to whether there were responsible spinal MRI lesions, and good prognosis and poor prognosis based on whether the EDSS score ≥ 4 at follow-up. The predictive factors of poor prognosis in IATM patients was analyzed by logistic regression models. Results Of the 132 patients, 107 first-attack patients who fulfilled the criteria for IATM were included in the study. We showed that 43 (40%) patients had a negative spinal cord MRI, while 27 (25%) patients were identified as having a poor prognosis (EDSS score at follow-up ≥ 4). Compared with MRI-negative patients, the MRI-positive group was more likely to have back/neck pain, spinal cord shock and poor prognosis, and the EDSS score at follow-up was higher. We also identified three risk factors for a poor outcome: absence of second-line therapies, high EDSS score at nadir and a positive MRI result. Conclusions Compared with MRI-negative group, MRI-positive patients were more likely to have back/neck pain, spinal cord shock and poor prognosis, with a higher EDSS score at follow-up. The absence of second-line therapies, high EDSS score at nadir, and a positive MRI were risk factors for poor outcomes in patients with first-attack IATM. MRI-negative patients may have better prognosis, an active second-line immunotherapy for IATM patients may improve clinical outcome.

Abstract Objectives Esophagectomy after chemoradiotherapy is associated with an increased risk of surgical complications. The significance of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio after chemoradiotherapy in predicting pulmonary complications following radical esophagectomy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients receiving preoperative chemoradiotherapy remains unknown. We aimed to investigate the utility of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in predicting the pulmonary complications of esophagectomy after preoperative chemoradiotherapy. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 111 consecutive patients with stage III esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who received preoperative chemoradiotherapy followed by esophagectomy between January 2009 and December 2017. Laboratory data were collected before the operation and surgical outcomes and complications were recorded. We calculated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and correlated them with the clinical parameters, postoperative complications, overall survival, and disease-free survival. Results Postoperative complications were observed in 75 (68%) patients, including 32 (29%) with pulmonary complications. The preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio of ≥ 3 (P = 0.008), clinical T4 classification (P = 0.007), and advanced stage IIIC (P = 0.012) were significantly associated with pulmonary complications. Abstract Background Nanotechnology holds revolutionary potential in the field of agriculture, with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) demonstrating advantages in promoting crop growth. Enhanced photosynthetic efficiency is closely linked to improved vigor and superior quality in tea plants, complemented by the beneficial role of phyllosphere microorganisms in maintaining plant health. However, the effects of ZnO NPs on the photosynthesis of tea plants, the sprouting of new shoots, and the community of phyllosphere microorganisms have not been fully investigated. Results This study investigated the photosynthetic physiological parameters of tea plants under the influence of ZnO NPs, the content of key photosynthetic enzymes such as RubisCO, chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, transcriptomic and extensive targeted metabolomic profiles of leaves and new shoots, mineral element composition in these tissues, and the epiphytic and endophytic microbial communities within the phyllosphere. The results indicated that ZnO NPs could enhance the photosynthesis of tea plants, upregulate the expression of some genes related to photosynthesis, increase the accumulation of photosynthetic products, promote the development of new shoots, and alter the content of various mineral elements in the leaves and new shoots of tea plants. Furthermore, the application of ZnO NPs was observed to favorably influence the microbial community structure within the phyllosphere of tea plants. This shift in microbial community dynamics suggests a potential for ZnO NPs to contribute to plant health and productivity by modulating the phyllosphere microbiome. Conclusion This study demonstrates that ZnO NPs have a positive impact on the photosynthesis of tea plants, the sprouting of new shoots, and the community of phyllosphere microorganisms, which can improve the growth condition of tea plants. These findings provide new scientific evidence for the application of ZnO NPs in sustainable agricultural development and contribute to advancing research in nanobiotechnology aimed at enhancing crop yield and quality.
