Abstract

This article presents guiding principles teachers can utilize in their own planning and student training for effective peer response. As the principles illustrate, teacher planning and student training are ongoing processes that must be addressed before, during, and after peer response, although the majority should be carried out before peer response commences. Planning and training encompass students' responding to and revising their papers based on peers' comments. The principles are listed chronologically, from before to during and after peer response, and for each, concrete and practical suggestions are provided.

20. Developmental Sequences in the Acquisition of English L2 Syllable Codas: A Preliminary Study

Abstract

This study examines the acquisition of English syllable codas by two native speakers of Vietnamese. Data were collected at three intervals over 1 year. Results indicate that a developmental sequence may exist and that this sequence may not be linear, with some longer (i.e., two and three member) codas emerging before some singleton codas. Furthermore, it was found that production type (e.g., with epenthesis or feature change) differed significantly by coda type and was indicative of acquisition processes. Finally, linguistic environment (preceding and following) and grammatical conditioning were found to significantly affect coda production and development. (Contains 1 footnote.)

Abstract

A pre-demolition audit is a tool that can be used to both identify hazardous substances and assess the materials to be removed from the building or infrastructure, and consequently their potential value, prior to the demolition or renovation activity can be established. Audits are essential since they enable all stakeholders involved to get information on the composition of waste and make it easier to find markets for different waste types. It is likely that the European Commission will recommend all Member States to make this pre-demolition audit mandatory to increase high quality recycling of construction and demolition waste. The report presents the current pre-demolition audit systems and existing guidelines in Denmark, Finland and Sweden. The report gives recommendations on key elements to be included in audits for improving the quality of the construction and demolition waste.

At introducere en taler er en så konventionel retorisk opgave inden for den epideiktiske genre, at den er tilbøjelig til at blive overset både i retorisk teori og kritik. Netop den høje grad af konventionalisering gør imidlertid, at formatet ofte udfordres i retorisk praksis på måder, der fortjener kritisk opmærksomhed. Med særligt fokus på humor og fremførelse undersøges det, hvordan introducerende værter og introducerede retorer forhandler og fordeler ethos i relation til deres publikum, når de henholdsvis giver og tager ordet. Et ældre og to mere aktuelle eksempler analyseres: Biskop Lovis Henry Ford, der som vært for præsident Bill Clinton i Memphis Church of God in Christ, USA, i november 1993 lægger kimene til en særligt kraftfuld tale; dernæst danske Radio24syvs kanalchefer Michael Bertelsen og Mads Brügger, der agerer ubehjælpsomme værter for viljestærke medarbejdere i en prisbelønnet reklamekampagne; og endelig komikeren Ricky Gervais, der som vært ved uddeling af Golden Globe-filmpriserne bryder eklatant med sin værtsrolle ved at ekskludere de talere, han introducerer, frem for at byde dem velkommen. Abstract

This report presents the situation within the Nordic countries with respect to production and recycling of construction and demolition waste, in particular crushed concrete, in the form of aggregates, and discusses the conditions and requirements relating to environmental impacts for a possible application of the End-of-Waste option in the Waste Framework Directive. If this option is applied, the material may become a product and it will no longer be regulated by waste legislation. Regulation of crushed concrete under product legislation presents a number of challenges, particularly with respect to environmental protection. The report presents and proposes a methodology for the setting of leaching and risk-based criteria to be fulfilled by crushed concrete (and other waste aggregates) in order to obtain End-of-Waste status. It is further recommended to set impact-reducing conditions on the use of materials obtaining End-of-Waste criteria, and not to allow free use. It should be noted that the work described in this report was carried out during the period from 2010 to 2012.
