This article draws on the concept of human security and argues that it can serve as a foundational doctrine within the fields of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. The chapter comprises three main parts which include 1) an introduction to the concept of human security; 2) a call for greater accountability and a strengthening of the duty to care across the peacebuilding landscape to counterbalance the militarization of peacekeeping; and finally 3) a proposal for what we call 'human security diplomacy' and the role that Canada can play as a middle power struggling to find its role within the nexus of these different strands. While human security has been a foundational principal of the United Nations for decades, the authors are particularly interested in how countries advance principles of peacebuilding in a globalized world to provide a more practical, rather than just suggested theoretical relationship, in terms developing a stronger identity through the lens of a new approach which we call human security diplomacy. This paper aims to test whether business schools are teaching business students about corporate social responsibility, human rights and corruption. The purpose is to understand if a business school environment facilitates or impedes the learning experience of business ethics. Grounded in constructivist learning theory, we hypothesize that business schools are ineffective learning environments for teaching human rights. A questionnaire was then disseminated to 2,852 business teachers at the top 20 Financial Times Global MBA ranked business schools concerning human rights and corruption. Findings suggest that the majority of the 343 respondents hold a narrow understanding of human rights and corruption. In fact, educators are contributing to a learning environment that struggles to incorporate any meaningful or explicit study of human rights and corruption. We conclude that without a greater commitment to teaching the ethics behind human rights and corruption in business school, graduates will continuously fail to understand how their business decisions could negatively impact the communities in which they work. Backroom deals and cash payoffs are fine depictions of political power in the movies. But they are ineffective in today's highly complex interaction between oral health and public policy. Three recent examples of the work of the California Dental Association's Government Affairs Council demonstrate the range of approaches that are needed to be successful. A mass-action campaign drew attention to the needs of underserved Californians and demonstrated dentists' willingness to help. Education, including visiting model programs, provided information legislators require to understand complex issues. Tightly niched grass-roots contacts from key constituents demonstrated not only interest but informed engagement.
