Metaphysics of Gender is a branch of Feminist Philosophy in which the metaphysical issues about "Gender" are discussed. Charlotte Witt is a feminist philosopher, who analyzes gender from a particular point of view. Witt names her theory "Uni-Essentialism" which is an essentialist theory of gender, while differing deeply from customary essentialist theories. She avoids the current framework of debate between Realists and Nominalists, because her main question is about the role of gender in one's identity. She says that there are always some conflicts between norms of various social roles one occupies, and for this reason we all need a unifying normative principle. According to Witt, gender is that normative principle, which unifies and organizes all other roles. So, gender is essential for everyone, in an Aristotalian sense. In this paper the Uni-Essentialism thesis of Witt is analyzed and its weaknesses are discussed. Finally we will suggest some points for improvement and modification of the theory.

Abstract Background HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors are well-known medications in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders due to their pleiotropic and lipid-lowering properties. Herein, we reviewed the effects of statins on the CCL2/CCR2 axis. Method Scopus and Pubmed databases were systematically searched using the following keywords:” Hydroxymethylglutaryl CoA Reductase Inhibitors”,” HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors”,” Statins”, “CCL2, Chemokine”, “Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1” and “Chemokine (C-C Motif) Ligand 2”. Evidence investigating the role of statin on MCP-1 in CVD was identified and bibliographies were completely evaluated to gather further related studies. Results The anti-inflammatory effects of statins on the CCL2/CCR2 pathway have been widely investigated. Despite inconclusive results, a great body of research supports the regulatory roles of statins on this pathway due to their pleiotropic effects. By disrupting the CCL2/CCR2 axis, statins attenuate the infiltration of monocytes and macrophages into the zone of inflammation and hence down-regulate the inflammatory cascades in various CVDs including atherosclerosis, cardiac remodeling, and stroke, among others. Conclusion CCL2 plays a major role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disorders. Down-regulation of CCL2 is proposed as one of the pleiotropic properties of statins. However, more investigations are required to elucidate which statin in what dose exerts a more potent effect on CCL2/CCR2 pathway.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disabilities with persistent impairments in cognition, communication, and social behavior. Although environmental factors play a role in ASD etiopathogenesis, a growing body of evidence indicates that ASD is highly inherited. In the last two decades, the dramatic rise in the prevalence of ASD has interested researchers to explore the etiologic role of epigenetic marking and incredibly abnormal DNA methylation. This review aimed to explain the current understanding of the association between changes in DNA methylation signatures and ASD in patients or animal models. We reviewed studies reporting alterations in DNA methylation at specific genes as well as epigenome-wide association studies (EWASs). Finally, we hypothesized that specific changes in DNA methylation patterns could be considered a potential biomarker for ASD diagnosis and prognosis and even a target for pharmacological intervention.
