Small IT service organizations operate their business with limited resources and workforce in comparison with large enterprises, and they could be categorized in various types based on the method of value creation. But the recent studies on information security have been conducted and they were focused on the construction of general information security countermeasure, without considering size of the business and characteristic. Hence we have undergone the process of classifying information assets. Then we extracted and categorized the information assets considering characteristics of small organization`s size and business process. Specifically we have classified the information assets according to business scenario design through qualitative observation method. Then we have validated the classified information assets by utilizing statistical method. We may anticipate that this study results could be basic data for developing the differentiated information security countermeasures for small IT service organization.

A robust and secure time-domain cancellation is proposed for inter-carrier interference (ICI) reduction in OFDM systems for ubiquitous environments. To cope with the problem of the conventional time-domain canceller, which does not work in deep fades, simple repetition (de)coding and modulation order increasing techniques are exploited in our proposal. The approximated repetition decoding provides reliable symbols in the regeneration operation, and the increased modulation order maintains the spectral efficiency. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method using 16QAM significantly improves the BER performance compared with the conventional method using QPSK, while the spectral efficiency is maintained. Moreover, the proposed method using 64QAM concurrently improves both the BER performance and the spectral efficiency.

A recent emerging issue in information technology is the convergence of different kinds of applications. Convergence brings a user-centric environment to provide computing and communication services. In order to realize IT advantages, it requires the integration of security and data management to be suitable for pervasive computing environments. Security convergence refers to the convergence of two historically distinct security functions--physical security and information security--within enterprises; both are integral parts of any coherent risk management program. In this special issue, we have discussed current IT-Converged security issues, security policy and new security services which will lead to successful transfer smart space which is a new paradigm of future.

Most business services based on Ubiquitous Computing are being designed with a sole focus on the technological sector, without considering business elements. In light of this trend, this study was intended to design a user-oriented u-Business service for preventing and promptly responding to industrial disasters at shipbuilding sites using a systematic methodology. Specifically, major danger elements of disasters in need of preferential preventive and responsive measures were derived as business opportunities unfulfilled by the current process, and then a u-Business service was developed to prevent/respond to such dangers. Statistical analysis was performed on the developed services according to evaluation models, and the final u-Business service was selected based on this analysis. Resources and information systems were designed to support the chosen service.

This paper introduces novel attack detection approaches on mobile and wireless device security and network which consider temporal relations between internet packets. In this paper we first present a field selection technique using a Genetic Algorithm and generate a Packet-based Mining Association Rule from an original Mining Association Rule for Support Vector Machine in mobile and wireless network environment. Through the preprocessing with PMAR, SVM inputs can account for time variation between packets in mobile and wireless network. Third, we present Gaussian observation Hidden Markov Model to exploit the hidden relationships between packets based on probabilistic estimation. In our G-HMM approach, we also apply G-HMM feature reduction for better initialization. We demonstrate the usefulness of our SVM and G-HMM approaches with GA on MIT Lincoln Lab datasets and a live dataset that we captured on a real mobile and wireless network. Moreover, experimental results are verified by -fold cross-validation test.

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards released IEEE 802.16-2004 which is a standardized technology for supporting broadband and wireless communication with fixed and nomadic access. After the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, a new advanced and revised standard was released as the IEEE 802.16e-2005 amendment which is foundation of Mobile WiMAX network supporting handover and roaming capabilities. In the area of security aspects, compared to IEEE 802.16-2004, IEEE 802.16e, called Mobile WiMAX, adopts improved security architecture—PKMv2 which includes EAP authentication, AES-based authenticated encryption, and CMAC or HMAC message protection. However, there is no guarantee that PKMv2-based Mobile WiMAX network will not have security flaws. In this paper, we investigate the current Mobile WiMAX security architecture focusing mainly on pointing out new security vulnerabilities such as a disclosure of security context in network entry, a lack of secure communication in network domain, and a necessity of efficient handover supporting mutual authentication. Based on the investigation results, we propose a novel Mobile WiMAX security architecture, called RObust and Secure MobilE WiMAX (ROSMEX), to prevent the new security vulnerabilities.
