Excluding D. De Vivo’s 1882 Russian grammar, commissioned by the publisher Schnakenburg in Dorpat, the first grammar of the Russian language published in Italy dates back to 1897 (Voinovich) and was published in Milan by Hoepli. In the 20th century, the elaboration of volumes aimed at teaching Russian progressively evolved in Italy, in accordance with the new direction that glottodidactics was developing, moving away from the grammatical-translative method and embracing communicative approaches. It is, however, in the last three decades that we have witnessed a surprising flowering in quantity and quality. The article begins with an overview of the types of aids and manuals for Russian language teaching published in Italy in the last thirty years, highlighting the objectives achieved and the possible aspects to be strengthened, and then provides some reflections on the perspectives of further development that are already evident.

3. Greek and Egyptian Magical Formularies: Text and Translation, Vol. 1
- Subjects
Ancient magic ,papyri ,papyrology ,handbooks ,amulets ,divination ,necromancy ,curses ,rubrics ,rubrics ,incantation - Abstract
The magical formularies on papyrus are precious witnesses to practices and processes of cultural transmission: i.e. the creation, communication, transformation and preservation of knowledge, both in text and image, across history and between the cultures of Egypt and Greece. More than eighty such handbooks survive, some of them in a fragmentary state. Our book, the work of an international team of papyrologists and historians of magic, replaces Papyri graecae magicae edited by K. Preisendanz, which appeared almost a century ago and has been used as one of the most important sources for the study of Greek magic, augmented in the 1990s by the excellent work of R. Daniel and F. Maltomini, the Supplementum Magicum. Our project has collected all the known magical formularies and fully studied both their materiality and their texts. The facing English translation with notes replaces The Greek Magical Papyri in Translation, edited by H.D. Betz. This volume, the first of two, presents the earliest of the handbooks, fifty-four in all, spanning the period from second century BCE to third century CE, in a new edition which includes the original texts in the three languages (Greek, Demotic, Coptic) with a full material description and a facing translation with commentary.

In late imperial China, handbooks were key tools for merchants who negotiated the challenges of the land and water routes along which they traveled with their goods. Such handbooks provided invaluable information. The knowledge contained within such itineraries pertained to the minutiae of individual places, but it helped create and maintain the global connectedness of the late imperial empire. Porcelain and tea, produced in the inland provinces of southeast China, could be delivered safely to the port of Canton, and from there to consumers all over the world because these merchants had created, preserved, and transmitted this knowledge. The micro-global lens, thus, is a key tool for understanding such merchant handbooks: it makes it possible to see how micro-level knowledge sustained the agency of the merchants who shaped the global trading world surrounding Canton. Reading late-imperial merchant handbooks from Huizhou makes visible the connections between Huizhou and the wider world. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Singing calls for a special kind of leadership—not only on the part of musicians, but also among pastors and lay leaders. 31. The power of schism: Unconventional narrative structure in No Country for Old Men.

Neilan, Chris
- Abstract
Whilst screenwriting handbooks have popularized and disseminated practical approaches to writing the screenplay and, to a certain extent, demystified and perhaps even democratized the process of screenplay creation and development, they have also solidified a restrictive doxa which delegitimizes unconventional structural approaches and, in doing so, solidifies a homogenized story product which tends to replicate different variations of the same dominant ideology. In this article I argue for a change in focus within screenwriting theory and the development process, towards an understanding of the meaning produced by the conventional model and the meanings that can be produced by alternative models, and away from the replication of the conventional, through an analysis of a particularly unconventional structural schism in the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men (2007). 35. Guidebook for Project Management
- Abstract
For the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) Department of Highways, project development encompasses all the work activities needed to move a transportation project from concept and project initiation to construction letting. Developing projects efficiently requires the adoption of sound project management practices. Although KYTC has a long track record of executing complex projects, doing so is increasingly challenging due to staff attrition and the attendant loss of institutional knowledge. Today’s entry- and mid-level project managers have more responsibilities than ever but lack a trusted source of guidance to help them manage projects from development through completion. The objective of this study is to produce a comprehensive Project Management Guidebook for KYTC project managers that captures the knowledge of experienced project managers and best practices — from both the Cabinet and other state transportation agencies a guidebook that 1) documents proven strategies for navigating a variety of project types (including bidding methodologies, etc.), and 2) can be used by entry- and mid-level project managers to develop and follow an appropriate project workflow.

36. Field Handbook for Maintenance and Preservation Treatments of Concrete Pavements
- Abstract
Information related to maintenance and preservation (M&P) treatments of Portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) has not been uniformly presented across various Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) maintenance-related documents, including INDOT Standard Specifications and the INDOT Design Manual. Since this data is scattered across different documents and frequently incomplete, it is often challenging for field personnel to obtain consistent information which can assist in making decisions related to selection of treatments that can benefit the service life of concrete pavements. To address this gap, the SPR-4601 guidebook was developed to provide succinct descriptions of common distresses and failures observed in concrete pavements, and guidance related to routine maintenance and preservation (M&P) practices. Having consistent and comprehensive information should aid in implementing more uniform M&P practices and help to ensure the quality of the concrete pavement assets over their service life.

- Abstract
Death will strike your congregation. Are you ready? Are they? Death has become a four-letter word. Whereas in previous generations, the practice of memento mori ('remember death') was embedded in family life, people today have found ways to distance themselves from death. As Western culture becomes increasingly more secular, the Christian understanding of death and the funeral appear more and more strange. Fear of death affects us all, and so pastors have significant hurdles to overcome. What Christians need today is a renewed vision of the traditional Christian funeral liturgy. In Funerals, Tim Perry recovers the rich theology inherent to the Christian funeral: communion with the saints in death, peace in forgiveness, hope in the resurrection, and joy in life eternal. Perry guides pastors through the practice of funerals, from planning the service to preaching the eulogy, and offers wisdom for the hard cases. Perry's Funerals will help pastors disciple their people to see through the valley of the shadow of death and into the hope beyond.
