Abstract

This paper proposes an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm for addressing the distributed flow shop considering the distance coefficient found in precast concrete production system, with the minimisation of the makespan. In the proposed algorithm, each solution is first represented by a two-dimensional vector, where the first dimensional vector is the factory and the second dimensional vector lists the operation scheduling sequence of each factory. Second, considering the distributed problem feature, a distributed iterated greedy heuristic (DIG) is developed where destruction and construction processes are designed in detail while considering the distributed structures. Third, an efficient population initialisation method that considers the factory workload balance is presented. Then, a local search approach that randomly replaces two factories with two randomly selected jobs and that finds an optimal position for the two inserted operations via the DIG method is proposed. For the canonical ABC algorithm, using the DIG approach, the main three parts are improved, namely, the employee, onlooker, and scout bees. Finally, the proposed algorithm is tested on sets of extended instances based on the well-known benchmarks. Through an analysis of the experimental results, the highly effective proposed IABC algorithm is compared to several efficient algorithms drawn from the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

32. Automatic algorithm design of distributed hybrid flowshop scheduling with consistent sublots

Abstract

The present-day globalized economy and diverse market demands have compelled an increasing number of manufacturing enterprises to move toward the distributed manufacturing pattern and the model of multi-variety and small-lot. Taking these two factors into account, this study investigates an extension of the distributed hybrid flowshop scheduling problem (DHFSP), called the distributed hybrid flowshop scheduling problem with consistent sublots (DHFSP_CS). To tackle this problem, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed as a preliminary step. The NP-hard nature of the problem necessitates the use of the iterated F-Race (I/F-Race) as the automated algorithm design (AAD) to compose a metaheuristic that requires minimal user intervention. The I/F-Race enables identifying the ideal values of numerical and categorical parameters within a promising algorithm framework. An extension of the collaborative variable neighborhood descent algorithm (ECVND) is utilized as the algorithm framework, which is modified by intensifying efforts on the critical factories. In consideration of the problem-specific characteristics and the solution encoding, the configurable solution initializations, configurable solution decoding strategies, and configurable collaborative operators are designed. Additionally, several neighborhood structures are specially designed. Extensive computational results on simulation instances and a real-world instance demonstrate that the automated algorithm conceived by the AAD outperforms the CPLEX and other state-of-the-art metaheuristics in addressing the DHFSP_CS.

Abstract

Crossover and mutation operators in NSGA-II are random and aimless, and encounter difficulties in generating offspring with high quality. Aiming to overcoming these drawbacks, we proposed an improved NSGA-II algorithm (INSGA-II) and applied it to solve the lot-streaming flow shop scheduling problem with four criteria. We first presented four variants of NEH heuristic to generate the initial population, and then incorporated the estimation of distribution algorithm and a mutation operator based on insertion and swap into NSGA-II to replace traditional crossover and mutation operators. Last but not least, we performed a simple and efficient restarting strategy on the population when the diversity of the population is smaller than a given threshold. We conducted a serial of experiments, and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the comparative algorithms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

ZnO nanowire arrays were grown on the Si(111) substrates coated with 1 nm Au catalyst by plasma as- sisted molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) through Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) growth mechanism at low temperature. Field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) reveals that ZnO nanowire arrays grow densely and vertically to the substrate surface with the average diameter of 20−30 nm. The structure properties of ZnO nanowires are measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), the results clearly show that the ZnO nanowire exhibits a typical wurtzite structure with c-axis (002) preferred orientation and good crystal quality. The diffraction peaks can be indexed to a hexagonal structure of bulk ZnO with cell constants of a = 0.325 nm and c = 0.521 nm. The spacing of the lattice fringes along the c axis of the ZnO nanowire is 0.52 nm. The room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectrum shows that the ZnO nanowire arrays possess good photoluminscent properties with strong near band edge excitonic UV emission around 380 nm and weak defect-related emission in the visible region of 475−650 nm.

Abstract

Charge transfer dynamics across the interface of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) organic molecules and the reduced rutile TiO2 (110) 1 × 1 surface has been investigated using core-hole clock implementation of resonant photoemission spectroscopy (RPES). It is found that ultrafast charge transfer from PTCDA molecules to TiO2 substrate takes place on the time scale of 8–20 fs due to their strong electronic coupling. Moreover, the charge transfer time scale at the PTCDA/TiO2 (110) interface shows evident orientational dependence which varies with the molecular site owing to different electronic coupling strengths

Abstract

The electronic structure, molecular orientations, and interfacial energy level alignment of 3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic-dianhydride (PTCDA) molecules on rutile TiO2(110) 1 × 1 surface have been investigated using synchrotron-based photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. The evolution of PES spectra as a function of PTCDA coverage is interpreted as possible chemical reactions that strongly couple the TiO2 surface Ti and O atoms with PTCDA molecules. The emergence of an interfacial gap state observed at the lower binding energy side of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of PTCDA corroborates the strong electronic coupling between PTCDA molecules and TiO2 substrate. In addition, the molecular orientation of PTCDA is found to vary with coverage due to the strong interfacial interactions. It adopts a slightly tilting, disordered, and nearly lying-down geometry in the submonolayer, monolayer, and multilayer regimes, respectively. The strong electronic coupling and the relative energy alignment at the PTCDA/TiO2 interface could facilitate the interfacial charge delocalization, which is desirable for making PTCDA-based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) devices.
