Understanding the text in legal documents can be challenging due to their complex structure and the inclusion of domain-specific jargon. Laws and regulations are often crafted in such a manner that engagement with them requires formal training, potentially leading to vastly different interpretations of the same texts. Linguistic complexity is an important contributor to the difficulties experienced by readers. Simplifying texts could enhance comprehension across a broader audience, not just among trained professionals. Various metrics have been developed to measure document readability. Therefore, we adopted a systematic review approach to examine the linguistic and readability metrics currently employed for legal and regulatory texts. A total of 3566 initial papers were screened, with 34 relevant studies found and further assessed. Our primary objective was to identify which current metrics were applied for evaluating readability within the legal field. Sixteen different metrics were identified, with the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level being the most frequently used method. The majority of studies (73.5%) were found in the domain of "informed consent forms". From the analysis, it is clear that not all legal domains are well represented in terms of readability metrics and that there is a further need to develop more consensus on which metrics should be applied for legal documents.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in medical device software (MDSW) represents a transformative clinical technology, attracting increasing attention within both the medical community and the regulators. In this study, we leverage a data-driven approach to automatically extract and analyze AI-enabled medical devices (AIMD) from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) regulatory database. The continued increase in publicly available regulatory data requires scalable methods for analysis. Automation of regulatory information screening is essential to create reproducible insights that can be quickly updated in an ever changing medical device landscape. More than 4 million entries were assessed, identifying 2,174 MDSW registrations, including 531 standalone applications and 1,643 integrated within medical devices, of which 43 were AI-enabled. It was shown that the leading medical specialties utilizing AIMD include respiratory (20.5%), ophthalmology/endocrinology (12.8%), and orthopedics (10.3%). This approach greatly improves the speed of data extracting providing a greater ability to compare and contrast. This study provides the first extensive, data-driven exploration of AIMD in China, showcasing the potential of automated regulatory data analysis in understanding and advancing the landscape of AI in medical technology.

It was claimed in Ref.[1] that in the spatially flat cosmological case there exists a unique conserved measure (up to normalization) on the effective phase space $(\phi,\dot{\phi})$ for scalar-field with $m^2\phi^2$ potential through the proof of the existence of a unique solution to the differential equation $(44)$ with a unique physical solution in the low-energy limit. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is ubiquitous across various healthcare domains, such as cardiac arrhythmia detection and sleep monitoring, making ECG analysis critically essential. Traditional deep learning models for ECG are task-specific, with a narrow scope of functionality and limited generalization capabilities. Recently, foundation models (FMs), also known as large pre-training models, have fundamentally reshaped the scheme of model design and representation learning, enhancing the performance across a variety of downstream tasks. This success has drawn interest in the exploration of FMs to address ECG-based medical challenges concurrently. This survey provides a timely, comprehensive and up-to-date overview of FMs for large-scale ECG-FMs. First, we offer a brief background introduction to FMs. Then, we discuss the model architectures, pre-training methods, and adaptation approaches of ECG-FMs from a methodology perspective. Despite the promising opportunities of ECG-FMs, we also outline the challenges and potential future directions. Overall, this survey aims to provide researchers and practitioners with insights into the research of ECG-FMs on theoretical underpinnings, domain-specific applications, and avenues for future exploration.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have been widely used in code completion, and researchers are focusing on scaling up LLMs to improve their accuracy. However, larger LLMs will increase the response time of code completion and decrease the developers' productivity. In this paper, we propose a lightweight and effective LLM for code completion named aiXcoder-7B. Compared to existing LLMs, aiXcoder-7B achieves higher code completion accuracy while having smaller scales (i.e., 7 billion parameters). We attribute the superiority of aiXcoder-7B to three key factors: (1) Multi-objective training. We employ three training objectives, one of which is our proposed Structured Fill-In-the-Middle (SFIM). SFIM considers the syntax structures in code and effectively improves the performance of LLMs for code. (2) Diverse data sampling strategies. They consider inter-file relationships and enhance the capability of LLMs in understanding cross-file contexts. (3) Extensive high-quality data. We establish a rigorous data collection pipeline and consume a total of 1.2 trillion unique tokens for training aiXcoder-7B. This vast volume of data enables aiXcoder-7B to learn a broad distribution of code. We evaluate aiXcoder-7B in five popular code completion benchmarks and a new benchmark collected by this paper. The results show that aiXcoder-7B outperforms the latest six LLMs with similar sizes and even surpasses four larger LLMs (e.g., StarCoder2-15B and CodeLlama-34B), positioning aiXcoder-7B as a lightweight and effective LLM for academia and industry. Finally, we summarize three valuable insights for helping practitioners train the next generations of LLMs for code. aiXcoder-7B has been open-souced and gained significant attention. As a data-driven paradigm, offline reinforcement learning (Offline RL) has been formulated as sequence modeling, where the Decision Transformer (DT) has demonstrated exceptional capabilities. Unlike previous reinforcement learning methods that fit value functions or compute policy gradients, DT adjusts the autoregressive model based on the expected returns, past states, and actions, using a causally masked Transformer to output the optimal action. However, due to the inconsistency between the sampled returns within a single trajectory and the optimal returns across multiple trajectories, it is challenging to set an expected return to output the optimal action and stitch together suboptimal trajectories. Decision ConvFormer (DC) is easier to understand in the context of modeling RL trajectories within a Markov Decision Process compared to DT. We propose the Q-value Regularized Decision ConvFormer (QDC), which combines the understanding of RL trajectories by DC and incorporates a term that maximizes action values using dynamic programming methods during training. This ensures that the expected returns of the sampled actions are consistent with the optimal returns. QDC achieves excellent performance on the D4RL benchmark, outperforming or approaching the optimal level in all tested environments. It particularly demonstrates outstanding competitiveness in trajectory stitching capability.

In pursuit of enhanced quality of service and higher transmission rates, communication within the mid-band spectrum, such as bands in the 6-15 GHz range, combined with extra large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO), is considered a potential enabler for future communication systems. However, the characteristics introduced by mid-band XL-MIMO systems pose challenges for channel modeling and performance analysis. In this paper, we first analyze the potential characteristics of mid-band MIMO channels. Then, an analytical channel model incorporating novel channel characteristics is proposed, based on a review of classical analytical channel models. This model is convenient for theoretical analysis and compatible with other analytical channel models. Subsequently, based on the proposed channel model, we analyze key metrics of wireless communication, including the ergodic spectral efficiency (SE) and outage probability (OP) of MIMO maximal-ratio combining systems. Specifically, we derive closed-form approximations and performance bounds for two typical scenarios, aiming to illustrate the influence of mid-band XL-MIMO systems. Finally, comparisons between systems under different practical configurations are carried out through simulations. Electrokinetic (EK) flow is a type of flow driven or manipulated by electric body forces, influenced by various factors such as electric field intensity, electric field form, frequency, electric permittivity/conductivity, fluid viscosity and etc. The diversity of dimensionless control parameters, such as the electric Rayleigh number, complicates the comparison of EK flow stability. Consequently, comparing the performance and cost of micromixers or reactors based on EK flow is challenging, posing an obstacle to their industrial and engineering applications. In this investigation, we theoretically derived a new electric Rayleigh number ($Ra_e$) that quantifies the relationship among electric body forces, fluid viscosity, and ion diffusivity, based on a tanh model of electric conductivity distribution. The calculation results indicate that the new $Ra_e$ exhibits richer variation with the control parameters and better consistency with previous experimental reports. We further conducted experimental studies on the critical electric Rayleigh number ($Ra_{ec}$) of AC EK flow of binary fluids in a divergent microchannel. The experimental variations align well with the theoretical predictions, particularly the existence of an optimal AC frequency and electric conductivity ratio, demonstrating that the tanh model can better elucidate the underlying physics of EK flow. With the new electric Rayleigh number, we found that EK flow in the designed divergent microchannel has a much smaller $Ra_{ec}$ than previously reported, indicating that EK flow is more unstable and thus more suitable for applications in micromixers or reactors in industry and engineering.

Existing retrieval benchmarks primarily consist of information-seeking queries (e.g., aggregated questions from search engines) where keyword or semantic-based retrieval is usually sufficient. However, many complex real-world queries require in-depth reasoning to identify relevant documents that go beyond surface form matching. For example, finding documentation for a coding question requires understanding the logic and syntax of the functions involved. To better benchmark retrieval on such challenging queries, we introduce BRIGHT, the first text retrieval benchmark that requires intensive reasoning to retrieve relevant documents. Our dataset consists of 1,384 real-world queries spanning diverse domains, such as economics, psychology, mathematics, and coding. These queries are drawn from naturally occurring and carefully curated human data. Extensive evaluation reveals that even state-of-the-art retrieval models perform poorly on BRIGHT. The leading model on the MTEB leaderboard (Muennighoff et al., 2023), which achieves a score of 59.0 nDCG@10, produces a score of nDCG@10 of 18.3 on BRIGHT. We show that incorporating explicit reasoning about the query improves retrieval performance by up to 12.2 points. Moreover, incorporating retrieved documents from the top-performing retriever boosts question-answering performance by over 6.6 points. In this paper, we propose a novel diffusion-decision transformer (D2T) architecture to optimize the beamforming strategies for intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted multiple-input single-output (MISO) communication systems. The first challenge lies in the expensive computation cost to recover the real-time channel state information (CSI) from the received pilot signals, which usually requires prior knowledge of the channel distributions. To reduce the channel estimation complexity, we adopt a diffusion model to automatically learn the mapping between the received pilot signals and channel matrices in a model-free manner. The second challenge is that, the traditional optimization or reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms cannot guarantee the optimality of the beamforming policies once the channel distribution changes, and it is costly to resolve the optimized strategies. To enhance the generality of the decision models over varying channel distributions, we propose an offline pre-training and online fine-tuning decision transformer (DT) framework, wherein we first pre-train the DT offline with the data samples collected by the RL algorithms under diverse channel distributions, and then fine-tune the DT online with few-shot samples under a new channel distribution for a generalization purpose. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared with retraining RL algorithms, the proposed D2T algorithm boosts the convergence speed by 3 times with only a few samples from the new channel distribution while enhancing the average user data rate by 6%.

The optical truss interferometer (OTI) is a contingent subsystem proposed for the LISA telescopes to aid in the verification of a $1 \frac{\mathrm{pm}}{\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}}$ optical path length stability. Each telescope would be equipped with three pairs of compact fiber-coupled units, each forming an optical cavity with a baseline proportional to the telescope length at different points around the aperture. Employing a Pound-Drever-Hall approach to maintain a modulated laser field on resonance with each cavity, the dimensional stability of the telescope can be measured and verified. We have designed and developed prototype OTI units to demonstrate the capability of measuring stable structures, such as the LISA telescope, with a $1 \frac{\mathrm{pm}}{\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}}$ sensitivity using a set of freely mountable fiber-injected cavities. Aside from its initial motivation for the telescope, the OTI can also be readily integrated with other systems to aid in ground testing experiments. Interlayer rotation in van der Waals (vdW) materials offers great potential for manipulating phonon dynamics and heat flow in advanced electronics with ever higher compactness and power density. However, despite extensive theoretical efforts in recent years, experimental measurements remain scarce especially due to the critical challenges of preparing single-crystalline twisted interfaces and probing interfacial thermal transport with sufficient resolution. Here, we exploited the intrinsic twisted interfaces in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). By developing novel experimental schemes based on microfabricated mesas, we managed to achieve simultaneous mechanical characterizations and thermal measurements. In particular, we pushed the HOPG mesas with a microprobe to identify and rotate single-crystalline intrinsic interfaces owing to their slippery nature as is well known in structural superlubricity. Remarkably, we observed over 30-fold suppression of thermal conductance for the slippery interfaces by using epitaxial graphite as a control. Nonetheless, the interfacial conductance remains around 600 $\mathrm{MWm^{-2}K^{-1}}$ which surpasses the highest values for artificially stacked vdW structures by more than five times. Further, atomic simulations revealed the predominant role of the transverse acoustic phonons. Together, our findings highlight a general physical picture that directly correlates interfacial thermal transport with sliding resistance, and lay the foundation for twist-enabled thermal management which are particularly beneficial to twistronics and slidetronics.

Extra large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is a key technology for future wireless communication systems. This paper considers the effects of visibility region (VR) at the base station (BS) in a non-stationary multi-user XL-MIMO scenario, where only partial antennas can receive users' signal. In time division duplexing (TDD) mode, we first estimate the VR at the BS by detecting the energy of the received signal during uplink training phase. The probabilities of two detection errors are derived and the uplink channel on the detected VR is estimated. In downlink data transmission, to avoid cumbersome Monte-Carlo trials, we derive a deterministic approximate expression for ergodic {average energy efficiency (EE)} with the regularized zero-forcing (RZF) precoding. In frequency division duplexing (FDD) mode, the VR is estimated in uplink training and then the channel information of detected VR is acquired from the feedback channel. In downlink data transmission, the approximation of ergodic average {EE} is also derived with the RZF precoding. Invoking approximate results, we propose an alternate optimization algorithm to design the detection threshold and the pilot length in both TDD and FDD modes. In this work, we theoretically report a new large family of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal sulfides $M$$_{2}$S with MXene structure in 2H and 1T phases, which we name as MSene. Twenty-four out of fifty-eight MSenes are proved to be stable. Notably, this family includes twelve superconducting (SC) materials, seven SC topological metals (SCTMs), four charge density wave (CDW) materials, and five magnetic materials including one ferromagnetic (FM) and four antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials. For example, 2H-Mo$_{2}$S is a SCTM which exhibits SC critical temperature ($T_{c}$) of 10.2 K and nontrivial topological properties; 1T-Hf$_{2}$S is a CDW material with the CDW originating from electron-phonon coupling. The CDW can be suppressed by compressive strain, leading to the emergence of superconductivity; 2H-Cr$_{2}$S and 1T-Mn$_{2}$S show FM and AFM properties, respectively. Thus, the new large family we predicted shows rich physical properties and significantly expands the repertoire of 2D materials. CsV3Sb5, a notable compound within the kagome family, is renowned for its topological and superconducting properties, as well as its detection of local magnetic field and anomalous Hall effect in experiments. However, the origin of this local magnetic field is still veiled. In this study, we employ the first-principles calculations to investigate the atomic vibration in both the pristine and the charge-density-wave phases of CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. Our analysis reveals the presence of ``anomalous phonons" in these structures, these phonon induce the circular vibration of atoms, contributing to the phonon magnetic moments and subsequently to the observed the local magnetic fields. Additionally, we observe that lattice distortion in the charge-density-wave phase amplifies these circular vibrations, resulting in a stronger local magnetic field, particularly from the vanadium atoms. This investigation not only reveals the potential relation between lattice distortion and atomic polarization but also offers a novel idea to understand the origin of local magnetic moment in CsV3Sb5., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Coastal communities are confronted with a growing incidence of climate-induced flooding, necessitating adaptation measures for resilience. In this paper, we introduce a framework that integrates an urban digital twin with a geospatial dashboard to allow visualization of the vulnerabilities within critical infrastructure across a range of spatial and temporal scales. The synergy between these two technologies fosters heightened community awareness about increased flood risks to establish a unified understanding, the foundation for collective decision-making in adaptation plans. The paper also elucidates ethical considerations while developing the platform, including ensuring accessibility, promoting transparency and equity, and safeguarding individual privacy.

In this work, we introduce a strong Designated Verifier Signature (DVS) scheme that incorporates a message recovery mechanism inspired by the concept of the Universal Designated Verifier Signature (UDVS) scheme. It is worth noting that Saeednia's strong designated verifier signature scheme fails to guarantee the privacy of the signature, making it unsuitable for certain applications such as medical record certificates or voting systems. To overcome this limitation, we extend Lee's strong designated verifier signature with a message recovery scheme to develop a universal designated verifier signature scheme. Correspondence matching plays a crucial role in numerous robotics applications. In comparison to conventional hand-crafted methods and recent data-driven approaches, there is significant interest in plug-and-play algorithms that make full use of pre-trained backbone networks for multi-scale feature extraction and leverage hierarchical refinement strategies to generate matched correspondences. The primary focus of this paper is to address the limitations of deep feature matching (DFM), a state-of-the-art (SoTA) plug-and-play correspondence matching approach. First, we eliminate the pre-defined threshold employed in the hierarchical refinement process of DFM by leveraging a more flexible nearest neighbor search strategy, thereby preventing the exclusion of repetitive yet valid matches during the early stages. Our second technical contribution is the integration of a patch descriptor, which extends the applicability of DFM to accommodate a wide range of backbone networks pre-trained across diverse computer vision tasks, including image classification, semantic segmentation, and stereo matching. Taking into account the practical applicability of our method in real-world robotics applications, we also propose a novel patch descriptor distillation strategy to further reduce the computational complexity of correspondence matching. Extensive experiments conducted on three public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method. Specifically, it achieves an overall performance in terms of mean matching accuracy of 0.68, 0.92, and 0.95 with respect to the tolerances of 1, 3, and 5 pixels, respectively, on the HPatches dataset, outperforming all other SoTA algorithms. Instruction Tuning has the potential to stimulate or enhance specific capabilities of large language models (LLMs). However, achieving the right balance of data is crucial to prevent catastrophic forgetting and interference between tasks. To address these limitations and enhance training flexibility, we propose the Mixture-of-LoRAs (MoA) architecture which is a novel and parameter-efficient tuning method designed for multi-task learning with LLMs. In this paper, we start by individually training multiple domain-specific LoRA modules using corresponding supervised corpus data. These LoRA modules can be aligned with the expert design principles observed in Mixture-of-Experts (MoE). Subsequently, we combine the multiple LoRAs using an explicit routing strategy and introduce domain labels to facilitate multi-task learning, which help prevent interference between tasks and ultimately enhances the performance of each individual task. Furthermore, each LoRA model can be iteratively adapted to a new domain, allowing for quick domain-specific adaptation. Agricultural products play a critical role in human development. With economic globalization and the financialization of agricultural products continuing to advance, the interconnections between different agricultural futures have become closer. We utilize a TVP-VAR-DY model combined with the quantile method to measure the risk spillover between 11 agricultural futures on the futures exchanges of US and China from July 9,2014, to December 31,2022. This study yielded several significant findings. Firstly, CBOT corn, soybean, and wheat were identified as the primary risk transmitters, with DCE corn and soybean as the main risk receivers. Secondly, sudden events or increased economic uncertainty can increase the overall risk spillovers. Thirdly, there is an aggregation of risk spillovers amongst agricultural futures based on the dynamic directional spillover results. Lastly, the central agricultural futures under the conditional mean are CBOT corn and soybean, while CZCE hard wheat and long-grained rice are the two risk spillover centers in extreme cases, as per the results of the spillover network and minimum spanning tree. Based on these results, decision-makers are advised to safeguard against the price risk of agricultural futures under sudden economic events, and investors can utilize the results to construct a superior investment portfolio by taking different agricultural product futures as risk-leading indicators according to various situations.

The zeta ($\zeta$) potential is a pivotal metric for characterizing the electric field topology within an electric double layer - an important phenomenon on phase interface. It underpins critical processes in diverse realms such as chemistry, biomedical engineering, and micro/nanofluidics. Yet, local measurement of $\zeta$ potential at the interface has historically presented challenges, leading researchers to simplify a chemically homogenized surface with a uniform $\zeta$ potential. In the current investigation, we present evidence that, within a microchannel, the spatial distribution of $\zeta$ potential across a chemically homogeneous solid-liquid interface can become two-dimensional (2D) under an imposed flow regime, as disclosed by a state-of-art fluorescence photobleaching electrochemistry analyzer (FLEA) technique. The $\zeta$ potential' s propensity to become increasingly negative downstream, presents an approximately symmetric, V-shaped pattern in the spanwise orientation. Intriguingly, and of notable significance to chemistry and engineering, this 2D $\zeta$ potential framework was found to electrokinetically induce swirling flows in tens of nanometers, aligning with the streamwise axis, bearing a remarkable resemblance to the well-documented hairpin vortices in turbulent boundary layers. Our findings gesture towards a novel perspective on the genesis of vortex structures in nanoscale. Additionally, the FLEA technique emerges as a potent tool for discerning $\zeta$ potential at a local scale with high resolution, potentially accelerating the evolution and applications of novel surface material.

This study investigates the complexity of regulatory affairs in the medical device industry, a critical factor influencing market access and patient care. Through qualitative research, we sought expert insights to understand the factors contributing to this complexity. The study involved semi-structured interviews with 28 professionals from medical device companies, specializing in various aspects of regulatory affairs. These interviews were analyzed using open coding and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. The findings reveal key sources of complexity within the regulatory landscape, divided into five domains: (A) Regulatory language complexity, (B) Intricacies within the regulatory process, (C) Global-level complexities, (D) Database-related considerations, and (E) Product-level issues. The participants highlighted the need for strategies to streamline regulatory compliance, enhance interactions between regulatory bodies and industry players, and develop adaptable frameworks for rapid technological advancements. Emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and increased transparency, the study concludes that these elements are vital for establishing coherent and effective regulatory procedures in the medical device sector.
