PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To evaluate the current evidence and literature on treatment options for proximal hamstring injuries. RECENT FINDINGS: Patients with 3-tendon complete tears with greater than 2 cm of retraction have worse outcomes and higher complication rates compared to those with less severe injuries. Endoscopic and open proximal hamstring repair both have favorable patient reported outcomes at 5-year follow up. Proximal hamstring repair in patients who are male, with isolated semimembranosus injury, and have proximal hamstring free tendon rupture are more likely to have earlier return to sports. The Parisian Hamstring Avulsion Score (PHAS) is a validated patient-reported outcome measure to predict return to sports. Proximal hamstring injuries may occur in both elite and recreational athletes and may present with varying degrees of chronicity and severity. Injuries occur most commonly during forceful eccentric contraction of the hamstrings and often present with ischial tuberosity tenderness, ecchymosis, and hamstring weakness. Treatment decision-making is dictated by the tendons involved and chronicity. Many proximal hamstring injuries can be successfully treated with non-surgical measures. However, operative treatment of appropriately indicated proximal hamstring tendon injuries can result in significantly better functional outcomes and faster and more reliable return to sports compared to nonoperative treatment. Both endoscopic and open surgical repair techniques show high satisfaction levels and excellent patient-reported outcomes at short- and mid-term follow-up. Postoperative rehabilitation protocols vary across the literature and ongoing study is needed to clarify the optimal program, though emphasis on eccentric hamstring strengthening may be beneficial.

Purpose: To evaluate the mid‐term clinical outcomes for the non‐surgical and surgical management of acute proximal hamstring avulsions. Methods: Sixty physically active individuals were offered surgical or non‐surgical management for their proximal hamstring avulsion injuries. Distal retraction was defined as greater than 2 cm. Primary outcome measures were the Victorian Institute of sport assessment‐proximal hamstring tendons (VISA‐H) and functional assessment scale for acute hamstring injuries (FASH). Secondary outcome measures included palpable gap (cm), return to sport (RTS) and the ability to perform Nordic hamstring curls. Outcome variables were adjusted in regression models for gender, age, and treatment. Results: Thirty‐one patients elected to undertake non‐surgical management, and 29 chose surgery with a mean follow‐up of 34.8 ± 8.7 and 34.9 ± 7.0 months, respectively. The mean VISA‐H for the non‐surgical and surgical groups were 87.3 ± 3.4 and 87.9 ± 4.1 (n.s.), respectively. The mean FASH for the non‐surgical group was 89.3 ± 2.4 and 88 ± 3.6 for the surgical group (n.s.). This was consistent after adjusting for confounders. The mean gap for the non‐surgical group was 4.5 ± 1.09 and 4.9 ± 1.19 cm for the surgical group (n.s.). No significant differences were found in the abilities to perform Nordic hamstring curls (n.s.). Both groups achieved comparable RTS rates (n.s.). On average, the non‐surgical group achieved RTS at 5.5 ± 1.2 months post‐injury, whereas the surgical group was at 5.7 ± 0.7 months (n.s.). Conclusion: Physically active individuals with acute proximal hamstring avulsions and distal retraction of the tendon stump can be managed non‐surgically, achieving similar functional levels and RTS compared to patients treated surgically. The management of proximal hamstring tear (PHT) is debated and consensus regarding recommended measures and individual treatment regimens is lacking. The present investigation evaluated the efficacy of a conservative management of partial and complete PHT. The present observational study was conducted following the STROBE statement. In June 2018 the medical databases of the BG Klinikum Bergmannstrost Halle, Germany were accessed. All the patients with PHT were retrieved. The outcomes of interest were to evaluate the clinical examination, PROMs, imaging, and isokinetic muscle strength at the baseline and last follow-up. 31 patients were enrolled in the present study. Nine patients (29 % (9 of 31) described local pain at the ischial tuberosity in sitting situations and also in manual palpation. A persistent gap in the tendon string beneath the tuberosity in manual palpation was reported in 25.8 % (8 of 31). The mean VAS at the last follow-up was 2.3 ± 2.3. The mean LEFS score was 50.9 ± 18.8. Control MRI at follow-up showed scarring restitution in the proximal tendon in all patients in the partial tear group. In the complete tear group, a persisting defect state of the proximal tendon course was found in 45 % (9 of 20). The injured side achieved 81.5 ± 22.2 % of the force of the uninjured side, measured in the flexion movement at 60°/s. At an angular velocity of 240°/s, 83.2 ± 26.3 % of the force of the uninjured side was achieved. According to the main findings of the present study, conservative therapy of PTH tears is associated with good clinical outcomes. High-quality investigations are required to establish the proper therapeutic algorithm and advantages of conservative management compared to a surgical approach. The adductor magnus ischiocondylar origin (AM‐IO) tendon has often been described as a third proximal hamstring tendon due to its common origin on the ischial tuberosity as well as similar function. Prior studies have described the magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of the AM‐IO; however, its appearance on ultrasound has not been well‐detailed. The purpose of our study is to describe the sonographic appearance of the AM‐IO and provide a structured scanning protocol for complete evaluation of the tendon. Background: Injuries of the proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles are common. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship of the proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles with neighboring structures comprehensively. Methods: A total of 97 hemipelvis from 66 cryopreserved specimens were evaluated via ultrasound, anatomical and histological samples. Results: The proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles presents a hyperechogenic line surrounding the origin of the semimembranosus and the long head of the biceps femoris muscles, as well as another hyperechogenic line covering the sciatic nerve. The anatomical and histological study confirms the ultrasound results and shows different layers forming the sacrotuberous ligament. Furthermore, it shows that the proximal attachment of the semimembranosus muscle has a more proximal origin than the rest of the hamstring muscles. Moreover, this muscle shares fibers with the long head of the biceps femoris muscle and expands to the adductor magnus muscle. The histological analysis also shows the dense connective tissue of the retinaculum covering the long head of the biceps femoris and semimembranosus muscles, as well as the expansion covering the sciatic nerve. Purpose: This study highlights the pattern of presentation, treatment, early functional outcome, and complications observed in the management of chronic patellar tendon ruptures using our preferred technique of autogenous semitendinosus graft reconstruction. Methods: This was a retrospective case series involving consecutive patients who underwent patellar tendon reconstruction and met the inclusion criteria. The outcome measures were determined by the post-operative knee range of motion (R.O.M), the post-operative International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, and pattern of post-operative complications. Results: Nine patients were included in this case series. The mean age of the patients was 35.4 ± 6.8 years (range 27–44 years). Trauma to the knee accounted for majority of the cases (62.5%). Six (66.7%) of the nine patients suffered a patellar tendon rupture from contact injury during sporting activities. The mean length of time from injury to presentation was 20.5 ± 11.2 weeks (range 6–69.5 weeks). Normal knee function in a case (11.1%), nearly normal knee function in 7 cases (77.8%), and abnormal knee function in a case (11.1%) were recorded as a measure of outcome of surgery. The mean post-operative IKDC score was 70.0 ± 6.1 (range 55–77), which was higher than the mean pre-operative score of 26.4 ± 5.1 (range 18–32). The post-operative knee R.O.M averaged 97.2 ± 16.2° (range 70–120°) with a single case with a 10° extension lag noted. Conclusion: Normal to near-normal knee function was obtained with the treatment of chronic patellar tendon rupture in the majority of cases using autogenous semitendinosus graft for patellar tendon reconstruction in our series. Assessing muscle activation during squat and countermovement jumps is crucial for soccer players because these exercises replicate the explosive movements often required in competition, such as jumping for a header. Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the activation patterns of the rectus abdominis, lumbar erector spinae, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris on both the left and right sides in male and female soccer players during squat jumps (SJs) and countermovement jumps (CMJ). Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 30 healthy university-level players (15 males and 15 females). Surface electromyography (Noraxon-USA, MR3 3.8.30) was used to assess the activation patterns of the rectus abdominis, lumbar erector spinae, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris on both sides during SJs and CMJs. Results: The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between left and right muscle activation patterns in male and female players during both types of jumps, revealing a significant correlation (p < 0.05). Discussion: Females exhibited more consistent left-right synchronization in muscle activation, especially in the core and leg muscles, compared to males, who showed more complex muscle interactions and asymmetries. These findings align with previous research indicating that men and women differ in their neuromuscular activation patterns, co-contraction ratios, and responses to dynamic movements such as jumping. Understanding these gender-specific patterns is important for developing targeted training and injury prevention strategies. Conclusion: The findings indicated that different jump types and genders displayed distinct muscle activation patterns. Objective: To investigate the associations of thigh muscle and fat volumes with structural abnormalities on MRI related to knee osteoarthritis. Materials and Methods: MRI studies of the thighs and knees from 100 individuals were randomly selected from the Osteoarthritis Initiative Cohort. Whole Organ MR Scoring (WORMS) and effusion-synovitis scoring were performed in all knee MRI. Thigh muscles, intermuscular fat, and subcutaneous fat were manually segmented in 15 consecutive MR thigh images. Radiographic Kellgren-Lawrence grades (KLG) were also obtained in all knee radiographs. Independent t-tests were used to investigate the associations between thigh muscle and fat volumes, and sex. Mixed-effects analyses were obtained to investigate the associations between thigh muscle and fat volumes, KLG, WOMAC pain score, cartilage and bone marrow WORMS, as well as effusion-synovitis scores. Results: Women had higher subcutaneous fat volume than men (616.82 vs. 229.13 cm3, p < 0.01) and men had higher muscle volumes than women (p < 0.01). Quadriceps (coef = -2.15, p = 0.01) and vastus medialis (coef = -1.84, p = 0.03) volumes were negatively associated with the WORMS cartilage scores. Intermuscular fat volume (coef = 0.48, p = 0.01) was positively associated with WORMS bone marrow edema-like lesion (BMEL) scores. The quadriceps (coef = -0.99, p < 0.01) and hamstring (coef = -0.59, p = 0.01) volumes were negatively associated with WORMS BMEL scores. No evidence of an association was found between thigh muscle and fat volumes with KLG and effusion-synovitis grading (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Increased quadriceps and hamstring volumes were negatively associated with cartilage lesion and BMEL scores while no evidence of an association was found between thigh muscle and fat volumes, and radiographic knee osteoarthritis or effusion-synovitis grading. Measuring the bicep femoris long head fascicle length via the use of diagnostic ultrasound has become common practice within elite sport, using single images of between 4 and 6 cm. No study to date has compared single image estimations in terms of the varying fields of view (i.e., 4, 6, and 10 cm). Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether differences occur when estimating the bicep femoris long head fascicle length using short (4 cm), medium (6 cm), and long (10 cm) fields of view across three estimation equations. A total of 36 male athletes (age: 23.8 ± 3.8 years, body mass: 83.7 ± 14.0 kg, height: 1.81 ± 0.06 m) had three ultrasound images of the bicep femoris long head collected on a single occasion with the fascicle length estimated. A significant main effect was observed (p < 0.001) with moderate–very large differences (p < 0.078, d = 0.91–4.01). The smallest fields of view resulted in the greatest fascicle length. There were significant moderate–large associations between the fields of view (p < 0.001, r = 0.542–0.892). Unacceptable limits of agreement were observed, and the developed correction equations remained unacceptable. The partial measure equation is the most accurate whilst using the 10 cm fields of view, while the basic trigonometry equation had the lowest variability between fields of view and the smallest differences between fields of view; hence, this equation may be more appropriate when a

Background: In ACL reconstruction, it is desirable to assess preoperatively whether a sufficient graft diameter can be achieved with the planned tendon graft. The present study investigated the effect of the location of the cross-sectional area (CSA) measurement of the hamstring tendons in preoperative MRI on the correlation of the CSA with the intraoperative graft diameter. In addition, we analyzed whether the measurement results of examiners with different skill levels were comparable. Methods: A total of 32 subjects undergoing a single bundle ACL reconstruction using an autologous ipsilateral quadrupled hamstring graft (STGT) were included. The CSA of the semitendinosus and gracilis tendon was determined in preoperative MRI on six defined levels by three examiners. The intraclass correlation coefficient between the measurements of these observers was determined. The correlation between the sum of the CSA of both tendons (CSA STGT) and the graft diameter was investigated. Results: The interrater reliability was excellent on most of the investigated levels. A significant correlation between CSA STGT and the graft diameter was seen on all levels. The strongest correlation was found on the level 10 mm above the joint line. Conclusions: The measurement of the CSA STGT in the preoperative MRI 10 mm above the joint line enabled a good assessment of the achievable graft diameter in ACL reconstruction, independent of the examiners' training level. Purpose: To evaluate the utility of semitendinosus tendon (ST) and gracilis tendon (GT) cross‐sectional area (CSA) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and anthropometric characteristics in preoperative estimation of graft diameter in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with four‐strand hamstring autografts. Methods: Three databases were searched on 29 August 2023. The authors adhered to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses) and R‐AMSTAR (Revised Assessment of Multiple Systematic Review) guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Data on demographics, anthropometric characteristics, imaging techniques, tendon CSA, correlation coefficients, sensitivities, specificities, regression models and cutoffs for predicting intraoperative graft diameters above 8 mm were recorded. Results: Forty‐six studies comprising 4140 patients were included. Twelve of 19 (63.2%) studies reporting on ST + GT CSA found a moderate to very high correlation with intraoperative graft diameter. Five of 10 (50%) and one of seven (14.3%) studies reporting on ST CSA and GT CSA, respectively, found a moderate to high correlation with intraoperative graft diameter. Cutoffs of ST + GT CSA for predicting graft diameters above 8 mm ranged from 15.8 to 31.2 mm2. Nine of 35 (25.7%) studies that reported on height found a moderate to very high correlation with graft diameter. Seven of 33 (21.2%) studies reporting on weight found a moderate correlation with graft diameter. Conclusion: Of the MRI parameters assessed, ST + GT CSA was the most reliable predictor of graft diameter. However, cutoffs, sensitivities, and specificities for predicting diameters above 8 mm were highly variable. Anthropometric characteristics in general were less predictive of graft diameter than MRI parameters. The molecular and cellular basis of health in human tendons remains poorly understood. Among human tendons, hamstring tendon has markedly low pathology and can provide a prototypic healthy tendon reference. The aim of this study was to determine the transcriptomes and location of all cell types in healthy hamstring tendon. Using single nucleus RNA sequencing, we profiled the transcriptomes of 10 533 nuclei from four healthy donors and identified 12 distinct cell types. We confirmed the presence of two fibroblast cell types, endothelial cells, mural cells, and immune cells, and identified cell types previously unreported in tendons, including different skeletal muscle cell types, satellite cells, adipocytes, and undefined nervous system cells. The location of these cell types within tendon was defined using spatial transcriptomics and imaging, and potential transcriptional networks and cell–cell interactions were analyzed. We demonstrate that fibroblasts have the highest number of potential cell–cell interactions in our dataset, are present throughout the tendon, and play an important role in the production and organization of extracellular matrix, thus confirming their role as key regulators of hamstring tendon homeostasis. Overall, our findings underscore the complexity of the cellular networks that underpin healthy human tendon function and the central role of fibroblasts as key regulators of hamstring tendon tissue homeostasis. The ischial origin of the hamstring musculature is complex. While the conjoint tendon and semimembranosus are commonly discussed and understood by radiologists, there is a lesser-known origin of the semitendinosus along the inferior and medial surface of the ischium in the form of a broad direct muscular connection. This secondary origin is infrequently described in the radiology literature and is a potential pitfall during grading of semitendinosus injuries if the interpreting physician is unaware of its presence. In a proximal hamstring tendon tear, the direct muscular origin of the semitendinosus can be spared, torn along with the conjoint tendon, or remain intact and contribute to a vertical shearing injury of the semitendinosus myotendinous junction. Detailed knowledge of this anatomy and its imaging appearance in the setting of injury enables the reader to correctly diagnose these unique hamstring injuries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Qualitative movement screening tools provide a practical method of assessing mechanical patterns associated with potential injury development. Biomechanics play a role in hamstring strain injury and are recommended as a consideration within injury screening and rehabilitation programs. However, no methods are available for the in-field assessment of sprint running mechanics associated with hamstring strain injuries. Purpose: To investigate the intra- and interrater reliability of a novel screening tool assessing in-field sprint running mechanics titled the Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) and present normative S-MAS data to facilitate the interpretation of performance standards for future assessment uses. Study Design: Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Maximal sprint running trials (35 m) were recorded from 136 elite soccer players using a slow-motion camera. All videos were scored using the S-MAS by a single assessor. Videos from 36 players (18 men and 18 women) were rated by 2 independent assessors blinded to each other's results to establish interrater reliability. One assessor scored all videos in a randomized order 1 week later to establish intrarater reliability. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) based on single measures using a 2-way mixed-effects model, with absolute agreement with 95% CI and kappa coefficients with percentage agreements, were used to assess the reliability of the overall score and individual score items, respectively. T -scores were calculated from the means and standard deviations of the male and female groups to present normative data values. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to assess between-sex differences and between-limb differences, respectively. Results: The S-MAS showed good intrarater (ICC, 0.828 [95% CI, 0.688-0.908]) and interrater (ICC, 0.799 [95% CI, 0.642-0.892]) reliability, with a standard error of measurement of 1 point. Kappa coefficients for individual score items demonstrated moderate to substantial intra- and interrater agreement for most parameters, with percentage agreements ranging from 75% to 88.8% for intrarater and 66.6% to 88.8% for interrater reliability. No significant sex differences were observed for overall scores, with mean values of 4.2 and 3.8 for men and women, respectively (P =.27). Conclusion: The S-MAS is a new tool developed for assessing sprint running mechanics associated with lower limb injuries in male and female soccer players. The reliable and easy-to-use nature of the S-MAS means that this method can be integrated into practice, potentially aiding future injury screening and research looking to identify athletes who may demonstrate mechanical patterns potentially associated with hamstring strain injuries. BACKGROUND: Conventional hamstring (HAM) stretching therapeutic effects are not substantiable in neuromusculoskeletal conditions with HAM tightness or shortness. We developed a kinetic chain stabilization exercise to provide a more sustainable effectiveness in adults with HAM tightness. However, its therapeutic effects and underlying motor mechanisms remain unknown. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of traditional active HAM stretching (AHS) and kinetic chain stretching (KCS) on electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and hip flexion range of motion (ROM) in participants with HAM tightness. METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial, 18 participants (mean age: 25.01 ± 2.47 years) with HAM tightness were assigned to the AHS or KCS group. Hip joint movement, EMG amplitude, and onset times were recorded in the bilateral erector spinae, HAM, transverse abdominis/internal oblique (IO), external oblique (EO), and rectus abdominis during a straight leg raise test. RESULTS: Compared to AHS, KCS led to greater increase in the hip flexion ROM and EMG activation amplitudes in the left and right EO and left IO. Post-test hip flexion ROM data in both the groups were higher than the pre-test data. CONCLUSION: KCS produced more sustainable effectiveness in hip flexion movement and EMG motor control patterns in participants with HAM tightness than AHS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Purpose Hamstring strength testing is crucial in assessing this important muscle group during rehabilitation and injury prevention. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of measuring strength in a maximally lengthened position using a handheld dynamometer (HHD) compared to isokinetic testing. Methods Twenty healthy and active participants were recruited, and isometric strength testing was performed both on the Biodex machine and isometric end-range hamstring testing with the HHD on two occasions. Results Significant strong correlations (r= 0.87, p < 0.0001) were found between strength testing on the Biodex machine and the HHD for both the right and left sides. Bland-Altman plots demonstrated agreement between the two measurements. Excellent intra-rater reliability (ICC= 0.91-0.93) and moderate to good inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.71-0.83) for the HHD test was demonstrated. Conclusions The HHD provides a reliable and valid alternative to isokinetic testing for assessing hamstring strength in a maximally lengthened position. This assessment can be valuable in monitoring rehabilitation progress and detecting deficits before and after returning to play. Background: During anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, there are various autograft options. Donor-site morbidity is an important consideration while deciding the type of the autograft. Gracilis and semitendinosus autografts are commonly used in ACL reconstruction, resulting in weakness of the hamstring muscle. Hypothesis: We hypothesized that if we preserved the tibial insertion site of the sartorial fascia (SF) during hamstring tendon harvest, there would be better recovery of knee flexor strength. Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: In this retrospective study, 34 patients (aged 20-59 years) underwent ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon autograft with 2 different incision techniques on the SF. The tibial attachment site of the SF was preserved in 17 patients. The insertion site of the muscle was incised transversely in 17 patients. The follow-up duration was ≥2 years. Patients were recalled to the institute for examination and muscle strength assessment. The results were compared between the groups in terms of flexor and extensor knee isokinetic muscle strength at 60 and 180 deg/s. Results: There was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of age, sex, or body mass index. When compared with patients whose SF attachment site was incised, patients with a preserved SF tibial insertion were found to have a higher flexion peak torque at the angular speed of 180 deg/s (P < 002). No statistically significant difference was noted at 60 deg/s. This article, titled "Hamstring Strains: Classification and Management," provides information on hamstring strain injuries (HSIs) in sports medicine and rehabilitation. Introduction: The diameter of the quadrupled Hamstring graft plays a significant role in the incidence of graft failures for ACL reconstruction. The ability to predict the graft size pre-operatively can prepare the surgeon for alternatives in the event of an inadequate graft diameter. Materials and methods: We retrospectively measured the diameter of the Semitendinosus tendon (ST) on the MRI in all patients who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using quadrupled Semitendinosus as their graft. We also estimated any correlation between various anthropometric data with pre-operative MRI based Cross Sectional Area (CSA) of the Hamstring tendon and final graft diameter in the South Asian population. Abstract Posterior tibial translation (PTT) after double-bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction has sometimes occurred. Purpose of this study is to identify the risk factors for postoperative PTT after double-bundle PCL reconstruction with a hamstring autograft. Comparing the results of bilateral gravity sag view (GSV) at 12 months after surgery, over 5-mm PTT was defined as ‘failure’ in this study. Of 26 isolated PCL reconstruction cases, over 5-mm PTT was seen in 7 cases (group F: 9.57 ± 1.28 mm), and 19 cases had less than 5 mm (group G: 2.84 ± 1.29 mm). Abstract The objective of this research is to examine the impact of eccentric training on hamstring flexibility and strength in young dancers during the concluding stages of their foundational dance training program. A total of 24 female, second-year dance students from Hebei Normal University were selected as participants. They were divided into three distinct groups: Nordic hamstring exercise and single-leg deadlift group (NHE&SLD), forward bending exercises and standing leg lift group (FBE&SLL), and a control group (CG). The study was designed around a 6-week training regimen. An isokinetic dynamometer was used to measure seated knee flexor–extensor strength, while electronic goniometry was employed to measure hamstring flexibility in the supine position. Paired sample t-tests were conducted within each group, and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was utilized for comparisons between groups. In the NHE&SLD group, significant disparities were observed in both concentric (T = − 5.687, P = 0.001) and eccentric (T = − 3.626, P = 0.008) hamstring strength pre and post-intervention. The pre-intervention dominant leg concentric strength test values significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 5.313, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.840). Similarly, the pre-intervention dominant leg eccentric strength test values impacted the post-intervention results (F = 4.689, P = 0.043, η2 = 0.190). Following the intervention, the NHE&SLD group displayed marked changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.171, P = 0.004) and right (T = − 6.328, P = 0.001) sides. The FBE&SLL group also revealed significant changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.506, P = 0.003) and right (T = − 4.633, P = 0.002) sides following the intervention. The pre-intervention left leg concentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 25.067, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.556). Likewise, the pre-intervention right leg eccentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention results (F = 85.338, P = 0.01, η2 = 0.810). Eccentric training can better enhance the flexibility and strength of hamstring muscles in dance students. Traditional stretching training significantly improves the flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Eccentric training has more training benefits than traditional stretching training. It is recommended for dance students to use eccentric training when increasing hamstring flexibility and strength.

Introduction: The aim was to analyze the response of serum levels of inflammatory, high-energy muscle biomarkers and hamstring localized bioimpedance (L-BIA) measurements to marathon running and to ascertain whether they correlate with each other or with race time. Methods: Blood samples and hamstrings tetra-polar L-BIA measurements from 14 Caucasian male recreational athletes at the Barcelona Marathon 2019 were collected at base line, immediately after and 48 h post-race. Serum C reactive protein (sCRP), creatinine kinase (sCK) and lactate dehydrogenase (sLDH) were determined using an AU-5800 chemistry analyzer. L-BIA was obtained at 50 kHz with a Quantum V Segmental phase-sensitive bioimpedance analyzer. Results: Median sCRP increased (4-fold) after 48 h post-race. Median sCK and sLDH levels increased immediately post-race (3-fold, 2-fold) and 48h post-race (5-fold, 1-fold). Left, right and combined hamstring reactance (Xc) and phase angle (PhA) increased immediately post-race. Xc combined hamstring pre- and immediately post-race correlated with race-time and with sCK and sLDH median levels pre-race. Xc combined hamstring pre- and immediately post-race > 15.6 O and 15.8 O, respectively, predicted the race time of 3:00:00 h. Background: No validated score is available for the prediction of return to sport (RTS) after proximal hamstring avulsion (PHA) surgery. Purpose: To validate a new assessment tool for patients after PHA surgery: the Parisian Hamstring Avulsion Score (PHAS). Study Design: Cohort study (Diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3. Methods: All patients at our clinic who had surgery for PHA between January 2015 and March 2018 were included in this study. A suspected clinical diagnosis of PHA was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. PHA was repaired by surgical reinsertion with suture anchors. Minimum postoperative follow-up was 2 years, and the PHAS, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), score, and Tegner score were used. The PHAS is a patient-reported outcome measure, evaluating the effect of PHA injury with 9 items. It was validated by calculating its psychometric properties, and then correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the PHAS, UCLA score, and Tegner score. Cutoff values for the prediction of RTS were determined. Results: A prospective case series study was performed. A total of 156 patients were included. Median age (first quartile; third quartile) was 54.2 years (44.7 years; 61.3 years), and the mean ± SD time of the final follow-up was 69 ± 11.6 months. Two years after surgery, 66.7% (n = 104) of patients were able to RTS. A strong correlation was noted between all 3 scores at 1 year postoperatively. Overall internal consistency was high, with a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.86. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.96, showing excellent reliability. The minimal detectable change was 12.9. No patients reached the maximum score at 2 years. Analysis of the receiver operating characteristic curves of the 3 scores at postoperative 9 months in relation to the RTS at 1 and 2 years showed area under the curve values of >0.7, indicating significant discriminant capacity for the RTS. A PHAS cutoff value of 86 at 9 months for the prediction of RTS at postoperative 1 year had a sensitivity of 65.6% (95% CI, 53.7%-77.5%) and a specificity of 81.4% (95% CI, 69.8%-93%). Mean age (group G 31.8 ± 12.5 vs group F 34.9 ± 15.9 years), sex (male/female: 15/4 vs 3/4), BMI (25.6 ± 4.6 vs 24.9 ± 3.9 kg/m2), preoperative GSV (11.3 ± 2.2 vs 11.6 ± 2.9 mm), PMB diameter (5.37 ± 0.33 vs 5.36 ± 0.48 mm), and tibial tunnel diameter (9.32 ± 0.58 vs 9.29 ± 0.49 mm) showed no significant differences. ALB diameter was significantly greater in group G (7.0 ± 0.5 mm) than in group F (6.5 ± 0.29 mm; p = 0.022). There was also a significant difference in posterior tibial slope angle (group G 9.19 ± 1.94 vs group F 6.54 ± 1.45, p = 0.004). On Spearman rank correlation coefficient analysis, ALB diameter GSV (correlation coefficient: − 0.561, p = 0.003) and posterior tibial slope angle (correlation coefficient: − 0.533, p = 0.005) showed a significant correlation with postoperative PTT. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that ALB diameter (OR 19.028; 95% CI 1.082–334.6; p = 0.044) and posterior slope angle of tibia (OR 3.081; 95% CI 1.109–8.556; p = 0.031) were independently associated with postoperative PTT, respectively. Acute effects of static stretching (SS) and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) on local and non-local range of motion (ROM) were assessed in 29 participants. Three evaluations were performed one week apart: week-1 Control session (CS); weeks 2–3 either SS or PNF interventions (randomized). Dominant and non-dominant limbs, local (hamstring extensibility) and non-local ROMs (Shoulder extension-ShE) were collected at baseline (T0), immediately after (T1), and fifteen minutes post-intervention (T2). No differences were found between time-points during the CS. Local-ROM significantly increased (p=0.0002, ES=0.74 and 0.0079, 0.56, for dominant and non-dominant lower limbs, respectively) after both SS and PNF. No interaction between time and treatment was detected for ShE in both limbs. However, post-hoc analysis revealed a significant increase in dominant upper limb ShE between T0 and T1 only after SS (p=0.002; +6.5%). Initial Assessment and Management of Musculoskeletal Injury—A Team Physician Consensus Statement is title 23 in a series of annual consensus documents written for the practicing team physician. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether a 9‐week resistance training program based on high load (HL) versus low load combined with blood flow restriction (LL‐BFR) induced a similar (i) distribution of muscle hypertrophy among hamstring heads (semimembranosus, SM; semitendinosus, ST; and biceps femoris long head, BF) and (ii) magnitude of tendon hypertrophy of ST, using a parallel randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 45 participants were randomly allocated to one of three groups: HL, LL‐BFR, and control (CON). Both HL and LL‐BFR performed a 9‐week resistance training program composed of seated leg curl and stiff‐leg deadlift exercises. Freehand 3D ultrasound was used to assess the changes in muscle and tendon volume. Results: The increase in ST volume was greater in HL (26.5 ± 25.5%) compared to CON (p = 0.004). No difference was found between CON and LL‐BFR for the ST muscle volume (p = 0.627). The change in SM muscle volume was greater for LL‐BFR (21.6 ± 27.8%) compared to CON (p = 0.025). No difference was found between HL and CON for the SM muscle volume (p = 0.178).There was no change in BF muscle volume in LL‐BFR (14.0 ± 16.5%; p = 0.436) compared to CON group. No difference was found between HL and CON for the BF muscle volume (p = 1.0). Regarding ST tendon volume, we did not report an effect of training regimens (p = 0.411). Conclusion: These results provide evidence that the HL program induced a selective hypertrophy of the ST while LL‐BFR induced hypertrophy of SM. The magnitude of the selective hypertrophy observed within each group varied greatly between individuals. Background: The use of quadriceps tendon (QT) autografts has increased in the past 10 years. However, there remains a dearth of large studies examining the effects of graft selection on anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) that includes QT grafts. Purpose: To evaluate the risk of subsequent surgical outcomes, including revision and reoperation, for a large cohort of patients with primary ACLR according to autograft selection. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2. Methods: Data from a US health care system ACLR registry were used to conduct a cohort study. Primary isolated autograft ACLRs were identified (2012-2021). The exposure of interest was autograft type: QT, bone–patellar tendon–bone (BPTB), and hamstring tendon (HT). Multivariable Cox regression models were used to evaluate the risk of aseptic revision (defined as a subsequent surgery where removal and replacement of the original graft for noninfectious reasons was required) and risk of aseptic reoperation (defined as any subsequent surgery for noninfectious reasons where the graft was left intact) according to autograft selection. Results: The study sample comprised 21,973 ACLRs performed by 290 surgeons at 53 hospitals. QT, BPTB, and HT autografts were used in 1103 (5.0%), 9519 (43.3%), and 11,351 (51.7%) ACLRs, respectively. In adjusted models, no significant differences were observed in revision risk (hazard ratio [HR], 1.06; 95% CI, 0.60-1.89; P =.837) or reoperation risk (HR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.70-1.43; P =.993) within 4 years of follow-up when comparing QT ACLR with BPTB ACLR. Additionally, no differences in 4-year revision (HR, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.34-1.12; P =.111) or reoperation (HR, 1.24; 95% CI, 0.85-1.80; P =.262) risks were observed when comparing QT ACLR with HT ACLR. HT ACLRs were noted to have a higher risk of revision (HR, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.25-1.84; P <.001) compared with BPTB ACLRs but a lower risk of reoperation (HR, 0.86; 95% CI, 0.75-0.98; P =.024). Conclusion: In this large multicenter study using data from an ACLR registry, the authors found no difference in the risk of revision or reoperation when QT was compared with BPTB or HT autograft with the numbers available, but they did find a 1.5 times higher risk of revision when HT autograft was compared with BPTB autograft. The purpose of this current concepts review is to highlight the evaluation and workup of hamstring injuries, nonoperative treatment options, and surgical decision-making based on patient presentation and injury patterns. Hamstring injuries, which are becoming increasingly recognized, affect professional and recreational athletes alike, commonly occurring after forceful eccentric contraction mechanisms. Injuries occur in the proximal tendon at the ischial tuberosity, in the muscle belly substance, or in the distal tendon insertion on the tibia or fibula. Patients may present with ecchymoses, pain, and weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging remains the gold standard for diagnosis and may help guide treatment. Treatment is dictated by the specific tendon(s) injured, tear location, severity, and chronicity. Many hamstring injuries can be successfully managed with nonoperative measures such as activity modification and physical therapy; adjuncts such as platelet-rich plasma injections are currently being investigated. Operative treatment of proximal hamstring injuries, including endoscopic or open approaches, is traditionally reserved for 2-tendon injuries with >2 cm of retraction, 3-tendon injuries, or injuries that do not improve with 6 months of nonoperative management. Acute surgical treatment of proximal hamstring injuries tends to be favorable. Distal hamstring injuries may initially be managed nonoperatively, although biceps femoris injuries are frequently managed surgically, and return to sport may be faster for semitendinosus injuries treated acutely with excision or tendon stripping in high-level athletes. Introduction: The changes in knee axial rotation play an important role in traumatic and non-traumatic knee disorders. It is known that support afferentation can affect the axial rotator muscles. The condition of innervation of the semitendinosus (ST) and biceps femoris posterior (BFp) has changed in non-terrestrial and terrestrial vertebrates in evolution; thus, we hypothesized this situation might be replayed by hindlimb unloading (HU). Methods: In the present study, the EMG activity of two hamstring muscles, m. ST and m. BFp, which are antagonists in axial rotation of the tibia, was examined before and after 7 days of HU. Results: During locomotion and swimming, the ST flexor burst activity increased in the stance-to-swing transition and in the retraction-protraction transition, respectively, while that of BFp remained unchanged. Both ST and BFp non-burst extensor activity increased during stepping and decreased during swimming. Conclusions: Our results show that (1) the flexor burst activity of ST and BFp depends differently on the load-dependent sensory input in the step cycle; (2) shift of the activity gradient towards ST in the stance-to-swing transition could produce excessive internal tibia torque, which can be used as an experimental model of non-traumatic musculoskeletal disorders; and (3) the mechanisms of activity of ST and BFp may be based on reciprocal activity of homologous muscles in primary tetrapodomorph and depend on the increased role of supraspinal control. Comparison of knee flexor strength limb symmetry index (LSI) between the NordBord-test and the Biodex-test, and to determine the relationship between knee flexor strength and function in patients 2 and 5 years after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R) with hamstring tendon (HT) autografts. Observational registry study. Primary care. Cross-sectional data from 96 patients (55% women) participating in a rehabilitation-registry after ACL-R with HT autografts. Comparison of knee flexor strength symmetry between the Biodex-test and the NordBord-test. Secondly, the relationship between knee flexor strength test and perceived knee function, activity level, and hop performance. The NordBord-test demonstrated greater strength deficits compared to the Biodex-test with a mean difference of 12.5% ± 15.1% 95 % CI [8.1; 16.9%] at 2 years, and 11.1% ± 11.9% 95 % CI [7.7; 14.6 %] at 5 years after ACL-R. Relative concentric knee flexor strength (Nm/kg) in the Biodex demonstrated significant weak-to-moderate correlations with activity level and hop performance (r = 0.33–0.67) at 2 and 5 years. The NordBord-test identified deficits in knee flexor strength LSI not seen with the Biodex-test at 2 and 5 years after ACL-R. Background: The study aimed to examine alterations and imbalances in hamstring muscle contractile properties among young football players throughout their competitive season, and to understand how these changes might contribute to the risk of muscle injuries. Hamstring injuries are particularly common in football, yet the underlying causes and effective prevention methods remain unclear. Methods: The research involved 74 young footballers who were assessed before the season (pre-test) and after 12 weeks of training (post-test). To evaluate changes in hamstring muscle contractile properties, specifically the left and right biceps femoris (BF) and semitendinosus (ST), tensiomyography (TMG) parameters were utilized. Results: In comparison to the BF muscle, significant differences in time delay (Td) between the left and right sides in the post-test (p = 0.0193), and maximal displacement (Dm) between the left and right sides at the pre-test (p = 0.0395). However, significant differences in Dm were observed only in the left ST muscle between the pre- and post-tests (p = 0.0081). Regarding lateral symmetry, BF registered measurements of 79.7 ± 13.43 (pre-test) and 77.4 ± 14.82 (post-test), whereas ST showed measurements of 87.0 ± 9.79 (pre-test) and 87.5 ± 9.60 (posttest). Conclusions: These assessments provided TMG reference data for hamstring muscles in young footballers, both before the season and after 12 weeks of in-season training. Graft rupture is the most prevalent complication following pediatric anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The hamstring tendon (HT) autograft is frequently employed, while the quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft has garnered increased attention recently. This study aims to perform a systematic review to assess the complication rates and functional outcomes associated with these two widely used autografts in skeletally immature patients - comparing HT versus QT autografts. Is QT autograft better than HT autograft for ACLR in skeletally immature cohorts? Three electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Ovid) were comprehensively searched to identify pertinent articles reporting the outcomes of HT and QT autografts in pediatric ACLR with a minimum 2-year follow-up. Data on the outcome parameters, such as graft rupture rates, contralateral ACL injury rates, functional outcomes, and growth disturbances rates, were extracted. Meta-analysis was performed using OpenMeta Analyst software. Twelve studies were included for meta-analysis (pooled analysis) with 659 patients (QT: 205; HT: 454). The analysis showed that QT autografts had a significantly lesser graft rupture rate than HT autografts (3.5 % [95 % CI 0.2, 6.8] and 12.4 % [95 % CI 6.1, 18.7] respectively, p < 0.001). The graft rupture rates between QT with bone and without bone block showed no statistically significant difference (4.6 % [95 % CI 0.8, 1.0] and 3.5 % [95 % CI 2.0, 8.9] respectively, p = 0.181). The overall contralateral ACL injury rate was 10.2 %, and the subgroup analysis revealed no statistically significant difference between the QT and HT groups (p = 0.7). Regarding functional outcome scores at the final follow-up, the mean Lysholm score demonstrated a significant increase in the QT group compared to the HT group (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences between the two groups concerning growth disturbances at the final follow-up. Return to sports (RTS) varied between 6 and 13.5 months after surgery. QT autografts demonstrate encouraging outcomes, showcasing lower graft rupture rates, better functional outcomes, and comparable contralateral ACL injury rates and growth disturbances relative to the commonly used HT autograft in skeletally immature patients undergoing ACLR. The objective of this research is to examine the impact of eccentric training on hamstring flexibility and strength in young dancers during the concluding stages of their foundational dance training program. A total of 24 female, second-year dance students from Hebei Normal University were selected as participants. They were divided into three distinct groups: Nordic hamstring exercise and single-leg deadlift group (NHE&SLD), forward bending exercises and standing leg lift group (FBE&SLL), and a control group (CG). The study was designed around a 6-week training regimen. An isokinetic dynamometer was used to measure seated knee flexor–extensor strength, while electronic goniometry was employed to measure hamstring flexibility in the supine position. Paired sample t-tests were conducted within each group, and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was utilized for comparisons between groups. In the NHE&SLD group, significant disparities were observed in both concentric (T = − 5.687, P = 0.001) and eccentric (T = − 3.626, P = 0.008) hamstring strength pre and post-intervention. The pre-intervention dominant leg concentric strength test values significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 5.313, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.840). Similarly, the pre-intervention dominant leg eccentric strength test values impacted the post-intervention results (F = 4.689, P = 0.043, η2 = 0.190). Following the intervention, the NHE&SLD group displayed marked changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.171, P = 0.004) and right (T = − 6.328, P = 0.001) sides. The FBE&SLL group also revealed significant changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.506, P = 0.003) and right (T = − 4.633, P = 0.002) sides following the intervention. The pre-intervention left leg concentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 25.067, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.556). Likewise, the pre-intervention right leg eccentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention results (F = 85.338, P = 0.01, η2 = 0.810). Eccentric training can better enhance the flexibility and strength of hamstring muscles in dance students. Traditional stretching training significantly improves the flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Eccentric training has more training benefits than traditional stretching training. BackgroundMethodsResultConclusionsThe effects of pelvic tilt control using visual biofeedback on gluteus maximus (GM), multifidus (MF), and hamstring (HAM) muscle activities during bridge exercises involving anterior pelvic tilt (APT), neutral pelvic tilt (NPT), and posterior pelvic tilt (PPT) were investigated.Twenty-five healthy participants were included (mean age, 24.6 ± 1.9 years). Visual biofeedback was used for the participants to self-control pelvic tilt during the bridge exercises. Pelvic tilt controls were performed in a random order (APT vs. NPT vs. PPT) following 30 minutes education program. GM, MF, and HAM muscle activities were measured by surface electromyography. One-way repeated analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test were used.GM and MF muscle activities significantly differed among the different pelvic tilting controls (APT vs. NPT vs. PPT) (p < .017). GM muscle activity during the exercise involving PPT was significantly higher than that involving APT and NPT (p < .017). In contrast, MF muscle activity during the exercise involving PPT was significantly lower than that involving APT (p < .017). In addition, the GM/Right MF, GM/Left MF, and GM/HAM muscle activity ratios during the exercise involving PPT were significantly greater than those involving APT and NPT (p < .017).The bridge exercise involving PPT using visual biofeedback can be recommended as a home exercise to selectively improve the muscle activity of the GM and the muscle activity ratio of the GM/HAM and GM/MF. Background/aim: This study aimed to determine which factors were most predictive of hamstring strain injury (HSI) during different stages of the competition in professional Australian Football. Methods: Across two competitive seasons, eccentric knee flexor strength and biceps femoris long head architecture of 311 Australian Football players (455 player seasons) were assessed at the start and end of preseason and in the middle of the competitive season. Details of any prospective HSI were collated by medical staff of participating teams. Multiple logistic regression models were built to identify important risk factors for HSI at the different time points across the season. Results: There were 16, 33, and 21 new HSIs reported in preseason, early in-season, and late in-season, respectively, across two competitive seasons. Multivariate logistic regression and recursive feature selection revealed that risk factors were different for preseason, early in-season, and late in-season HSIs. A combination of previous HSI, age, height, and muscle thickness were most associated with preseason injuries (median area under the curve [AUC], 0.83). Pennation angle and fascicle length had the strongest association with early in-season injuries (median AUC, 0.86). None of the input variables were associated with late in-season injuries (median AUC, 0.46). The identification of early in-season HSI and late in-season HSI was not improved by the magnitude of change of data across preseason (median AUC, 0.67). Conclusions: Risk factors associated with prospective HSI were different across the season in Australian Rules Football, with nonmodifiable factors (previous HSI, age, and height) mostly associated with preseason injuries. Early in-season HSI were associated with modifiable factors, notably biceps femoris long head architectural measures. Background: The stability of the knee joint is greatly enhanced by the ligaments that surround it. Beginning on the medial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle, the anterior cruciate ligament travels distally and anteriorly until it inserts on the intercondylar eminence. The purpose of this research was to compare the functional results of arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using hamstring versus bone patella tendon autograft. Materials and Methods: The 30 patients included in this study. This was the observational based comparative study conducted at the Department of Orthopedics, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences, Narketpally, Telangana, India. This study was conducted between the December 2022 to November 2023. Results: Bone patellar tendon and hamstring grafts are the most popular choices for ACL restoration. In this study, we assess the functional outcome of ACL restoration using the Hamstring graft, both of which have their advantages and disadvantages. Participants in this study tended to be middle-aged or older. The hamstring group's management is at 31.5 and the bone patellar tendon group at 30.1. A total of approximately 30.8 is the mean. This points to the fact that the majority of participants were youthful and energetic. However, in investigation conducted by Munro. The risk of anterior cruciate ligament tears is eight times higher in female athletes compared to male athletes. Patients in this study suffered injuries in two main ways: road traffic accidents and athletic activities. Here, injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents make up around 70% of all injuries, whereas injuries sustained in athletic events make up around 30%. Most athletic endeavours do not involve physical contact. RTAs can happen as a result of a direct hit to the knee, an injury sustained while falling from a height, or even a dashboard accident. Conclusion: The results showed that patients younger than 40 years old had superior outcomes after ACL restoration. All of the participants were men; we did not include any females in our study. Introduction: Hamstring injuries are one of the most common tendon injuries, especially in sports that require running and jumping. A comprehensive training program can help athletes to prevent this injury. Among suggested exercises, the Nordic eccentric training can reduce the injury rate by up to 50%; however, it is a high-load exercise that cannot be prescribed in the first stages of rehabilitation. Here, we describe a football player who used low-load resistance exercise with blood flow restriction as an alternative method to strengthen their hamstring after nine months of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery. Case Description: A 19-year-old non-professional footballer with a body mass index of 22.18 kg/cm² was invited to participate in this study. The variables examined included strength and cross-sectional area of the hamstring muscles (mean and maximum strength) and the crosssectional area of the hamstring tendons at their origin. The treatment program included a seated hamstring curl with a load of 30% 1 RM with blood flow restriction for four weeks (thrice a week). Results: The hamstring muscle strength improved by 6.54%, and the cross-sectional area of the muscles and tendons changed as follows: Semimembranosus (tendon=0.07%, muscle=2.57%), semitendinosus (tendon=0.00%, muscle=-4.04%), and biceps-femoris (tendon=5.5%, muscle=4.34%). Conclusion: Low load resistance training with blood flow restriction in this athlete improved the strength and cross-sectional area of the hamstring muscles as well as the cross-sectional area of the tendons. The changes observed in tendon, and muscle cross-sectional areas were more prominent for biceps-femoris. This case showed that a training program with blood flow restriction may be a good alternative for people who cannot tolerate high-load exercises in the early stages of their rehabilitation. The lower kinetic chain is known to be affected by hamstring tightness which causes biomechanical alterations. As per the literature, short hamstring might cause prolonged forefoot loading, which can cause higher repeated stress on the plantar fascia. There is evidence supporting the use of various stretching and myofascial release techniques for hamstring tightness, further research is needed to investigate their impact on plantar pressure. Hence the study aims to determine combined effect of myofascial release and passive stretching on plantar pressure in individual with hamstring tightness. This was an experimental pre-post study design with 67 randomised screenings from asymptomatic health care science students aged 18 to 25. From this scientific survey, a sample size of 47 students having HMS tightness based on the popliteal angle were recruited using a universal goniometer. An intervention was proposed that included MFR and passive stretching in 3 sessions on alternate days. Plantar pressure of these individuals was noted by using the "Harris and Beath foot printing mat" before and after the intervention. Significant pressure changes were observed after intervention: great toe of right side (p = 0.001), toes 2 to 5 of right side (p = 0.010) and left side (p = 0.008), first metatarsal of left side (p = 0.010), lateral forefoot of right side (p = 0.019) and left (p = 0.018), medial heel (p = 0.044), and lateral heel of right side (p = 0.025). These values substantiate the enhancement in plantar pressure. The combined effect of Myofascial release and passive stretching in an individual with hamstring tightness resulted in a significant increase in popliteal angle and plantar pressure. Objectives To measure the CSA of the HST musculature measured with ultrasonography in soccer players undergoing ACLR and compare limb differences with healthy controls. Methods A case-control study was performed with patients after anterior cruciate ligament repair (ACLR) and healthy controls in which cross-sectional areas (CSA) obtained using a model TE7 ultrasound machine (MINDRAY ®, USA) in B mode (4.2 to 13 MHz) with a multifrequency linear array transducer (L12-4S). Three CSA images were taken of the semitendinosus muscle (ST) and the long head of the biceps femoris (BFlh), at a distance of 30% and 70% of the ischial tuberosity insertion. Mean differences between groups were analyzed using SPSS v.20 (IBM®, USA), and statistical analyses were performed using non-parametric techniques to determine differences between groups (Student's t-test) and Cohen's correlation coefficient to quantify effect size. Results 14 ACLR operated 17 ± 5.4 months ago and 12 healthy controls (W = 6; M = 20M; 24.5 ± 3.92 years; BMI = 25.1 ± 2.32 kg/m2) were recruited. There were differences between groups in CSA-ST70 (Post-ACLR = 1.43 ± 1.029 cm2 vs Control 2.65 ± 0.664 cm2, T Student = -3.68, 95% CI [-Inf, -0.648], P < 0. 001, ES = -1.418), but not in CSA-ST30 (Post-ACLR = 8.42 ± 1.596 cm2 vs Control 9.16 ± 0.945 cm2, T Student = -1.535; 95% CI [-Inf, -0.0793], P = 0. 068, ES = -0.5607), CSA-BFlh30 (Post-ACLR = 8.79 ± 1.47 cm2 vs Control 8.87 ± 2.312 cm2, T Student = -0.123; 95% CI [-Inf, 1.1049], P = 0.452, ES = -0. 049) or CSA-BFlh70 (Post-ACLR = 6.91 ± 1.011 cm2 vs Control 7.01 ± 1.453 cm2, T Student = -0.214; 95% CI [-Inf, 0.6795], P = 0.416, ES = -0.0783). Conclusion Ultrasound measurement of the CSA can be an image marker to identify muscle weakness or atrophy that predicts functional loss early.

Some employees at Ngimbang Hospital work activities are carried out in a sitting position for a long duration and almost done every day, especially for office administration employees. This will pose a risk of musculoskeletal disorders, especially hamstring muscle flexibility. A decrease in muscle flexibility will affect body fitness which can affect the work productivity of these employees. This study aims to determine the relationship between sitting duration and hamstring muscle flexibility. This study used a Cross Sectional Study research design involving 32 employee samples. Sitting duration is the independent variable while the dependent variable is hamstring muscle flexibility. The results of the normality test using the Shapiro-wilk test showed that the sitting duration variable was worth 0.000 and the hamstring muscle flexibility variable was worth 0.799, meaning that there was one variable that was not normally distributed, while the correlation test using Spearman obtained a value of 0.000 (

Background: Injuries of the proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles are common. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship of the proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles with neighboring structures comprehensively. Methods: A total of 97 hemipelvis from 66 cryopreserved specimens were evaluated via ultrasound, anatomical and histological samples. Results: The proximal attachment of the hamstring muscles presents a hyperechogenic line surrounding the origin of the semimembranosus and the long head of the biceps femoris muscles, as well as another hyperechogenic line covering the sciatic nerve. The anatomical and histological study confirms the ultrasound results and shows different layers forming the sacrotuberous ligament. Furthermore, it shows that the proximal attachment of the semimembranosus muscle has a more proximal origin than the rest of the hamstring muscles. Moreover, this muscle shares fibers with the long head of the biceps femoris muscle and expands to the adductor magnus muscle. The histological analysis also shows the dense connective tissue of the retinaculum covering the long head of the biceps femoris and semimembranosus muscles, as well as the expansion covering the sciatic nerve. Conclusions: These anatomical relationships could explain injuries at the origin of the hamstring muscles.
