Internationale.; International audience; The machining of wood products has acquired great importance in recent years, identified as being different from that for homogeneous metal removal in the need to avoid creating splintering, delaminating or burning. The various properties of the wood fiber and their orientations have a significant effect on the machining process. The study of the wood machining process is around the chip formation, tool wear, work piece surface quality, crack initiation and propagation into the wood, with taking into account several factors such as humidity, temperature, and vibrations that can affect the wood during the machining process. Rotary peeling veneer is a very specific machining process, where the chip is the final product. The fact that works related to this manufacturing process are rare, our objective is to investigate on the optimal cutting parameters, tool edge geometry, through the use of Teaching-Learning based optimization (TLBO) algorithm in order to obtain the best quality with the desired thickness of the veneer product. A study is carried out to identify the objective function that best characterize the machining parameters to be optimized. The challenge is to maintain the best possible quality of peeled veneer with the control of the pre-splitting condition and the veneer thickness variation. The developed algorithm, implemented in Matlab, used in this study is described through two flowcharts: main algorithm and the TLBO algorithm. In the main algorithm, the whole resolution procedure is prescribed. The second algorithm is dedicated to the description of all steps of the TLBO technique. Preliminary numerical results obtained from TLBO algorithm are consistent with the experimental ones. The proposed numerical model allows us to predict the characteristic tool angles for different chip thicknesses and friction coefficient. The need to use a pressure bar to produce a quality veneer is numerically proved.

Internationale.; International audience; L'objectif de ce travail consiste à étudier le problème de la convection naturelle à l'intérieur d'une cavité carrée différemment chauffée à l'aide de la méthode spectrale. Les simulations numériques bidimensionnelles et tridimensionnelles sont effectuées pour différents nombres de Prandtl et de Rayleighcaractéristiquesde l'écoulement du fluide à l'intérieur de la cavité connu sous le nom d'écoulement de Hadley. La simulation numérique des écoulements incompressibles par les méthodes classiques tels que les différences finies, volumes finis et éléments finis, nécessite des temps de calcul relativement longs et une capacité de stockage très importante. Un modèle basé sur les méthodes spectrales a été développé et a mis en valeur la précision, la simplicité et la rapidité d'une telle méthode, notamment pour des simulations voulues de plus en plus proches de la réalité des processus multi-physiques complexes. La méthode spectrale sera utilisée dans notre étude afin d'effectuer des modélisations bidimensionnelles et tridimensionnelles des écoulements incompressibles en formulation vorticité-fonction de courant pour le modèle 2D et en utilisant la méthode d'Uzawa pour le modèle 3D. Les résultats de la simulation d'écoulements incompressibles par méthodes spectrales seront comparés à ceux obtenus par différences finies et en termes de temps de calcul et précision des résultats.

Internationale.; International audience; In this paper, a meshfree cell-based smoothed radial point interpolation method (CS-RPIM) is extended to large-deformation elasto-visco-plasticity analysis for simulation of high speed sheet metal blanking processes. For this purpose, two techniques included in large-deformation analysis formulation are employed: a Johnson?Cook flow stress model and an updated Lagrangian scheme to integrate the constitutive relations. The volumetric locking due to the nearly incompressible behavior of elastic-visco-plastic deformations is remedied by relaxing the volumetric strain through the mean value computed by the strain smoothing approach coupled with the meshfree radial point interpolation method (RPIM) (based on the radial basis functions interpolation). The next step concern the description of ductile fracture initiation and propagation, which is essential to predict final product shapes in the blanking process. A hybrid approach is elaborated combining a damage model, based on a failure criterion for the brittle mode initiation; assumed to initiate when the maximum tensile principal stress at a node reaches a critical value, and a stress intensity factor model, to handle the crack propagation calculations once the crack opening is already created. The proposed algorithm duplicates cutting nodes that meet specific conditions and avoid the global remeshing procedure. Validity of the CS-RPIM for large-deformation metal forming problem is proved by benchmarks, and numerical example of sheet metal blanking process. Obtained results demonstrates that, the proposed method possess superior accuracy and convergence properties for strain energy solutions comparing to the standard FEM, the combination of the strain smoothing approach with the powerfull RPIM technique can easily simulate problems with severe element distortion, and solve volumetric locking problem in large-deformation analysis.

In recent years, new methods named Meshfree methods have been developed to surmount limitations of the finite element method. The main characteristic of these methods is to not employ any pre-defined mesh: they use a set of nodes scattered within the problem domain as well as sets of nodes scattered on the boundaries of the domain. A particular attention is paid to the RPIM method, which proposes a nodal interpolation. The followed steps are: a presentation of « Meshfree methods » and their advantages compared to the traditional methods, an introduction to the meshfree RPIM method with a calibration of its associated parameters, and finally, a discussion on results obtained with the RPIM in forming processes exhibiting initiation and propagation of a crack showing the interest of the approach., Avec l'avancé des méthodes numériques, de nouvelles méthodes dites « sans maillage » sont apparues pour remédier à certaines limitations de la méthode des éléments finis. Ces méthodes ont la particularité de n’employer aucun maillage prédéfini : elles utilisent un ensemble de nœuds dispersés dans le domaine considéré et sur ses frontières. L’objectif de cette étude est de montrer l’intérêt de l’application des méthodes sans maillage basées sur les fonctions de base radiale pour la simulation des procédés de mise en forme en général et de poinçonnage rapide en particulier. Une attention particulière sera portée sur la méthode RPIM qui offre l’avantage de proposer une interpolation nodale. La démarche proposée dans ce document consiste: à rappeler succinctement les principes essentiels des méthodes sans maillage en précisant leurs avantages par rapport aux méthodes classiques, à présenter et à mettre en œuvre la technique numérique de la méthode sans maillage RPIM avec un calibrage des paramètres caractéristiques, et enfin, à traiter des exemples numériques de procédés de mise en forme avec amorçage et propagation de fissure qui confirmeront ces avantages.

In this work the advances in meshfree methods, partic- ularly the Radial Basis Function based meshfree Galerkin Methods, are presented with the purpose of analyzing the performance of their meshless approximations and integration techniques. The Radial Point Interpolation Method (RPIM) is studied based on the global Galerkin weak form performed using classical Gaussian integration and the stabilized conforming nodal integration scheme. The numeri- cal performance of this category of methods is tested on their behavior on two elastic problems with regular node grids, and two other with distorted irregular grids. All RPIM methods perform very well in term of elastic computation, the Smoothed Radial Point Interpolation Method (SRPIM) shows a higher accuracy, especially in a situation of distorted node schemes. Internationale.; International audience; cette contribution présente une mise en oeuvre de la simulation numérique en 3D d'une opération de poinçonnage d'un disque métallique, en utilisant la méthode ''Element free Galerkin'' sous l'environnement fluent et LsDyna. Les résultats obtenus sont comparés avec ceux réalisés par la MEF, pour mettre en évidence sa capacité de traiter les problèmes de distorsion du maillage en grande transformation.
