Aim: The study aimed to investigate the perceptions of patient safety competency (PSC) among a sample of graduating healthcare professionals in a developing country. Methods: A cross-sectional survey on self-reported confidence in PSC was conducted among 469 graduands of pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and medical imaging at a private healthcare educational institution in Malaysia. Students’ confidence in six core domains of competency in the validated Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) questionnaire was evaluated in the classroom and clinical settings. Results: Nursing students were the most confident in PSC followed by pharmacy, physiotherapy and medical imaging students (p < 0.05) in both settings. The pharmacists’ scores in both settings were equal in all the domains except for the learning on the ‘Recognise and respond to reduce harm’ domain (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Based on H-PEPSS, the pharmacy students attained equal high levels of confidence in patient safety competency from both classroom and clinical settings.

Determinants of stunting are a concern in stunting locus villages, especially in East Nusa Tenggara, the province with the highest prevalence of stunting in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the determinants of stunting in such villages. A cross-sectional research design was conducted on a sample of 166 mothers of children aged 24–59 months selected using a proportional random sampling method in four stunting locus villages in East Nusa Tenggara province, from January to March 2022. Chi-square and binary logistic regression were used to analyze the determinants of stunting with a significance level of p < 0.05. The prevalence of stunting among children aged below five years in the villages was 22.3%. Lack of maternal knowledge (AOR: 5.310; 95% CI: 0.671–41.997) and negative parenting (AOR: 3.026; 95% CI: 1.191–7.871) were associated with higher risk of stunting. Meanwhile, children aged below five years with close birth spacing (AOR: 0.304; 95% CI: 0.087–1.063) had a low risk of stunting. The prevalence of stunting in stunting locus villages needs special attention from the Indonesian government. Maternal knowledge should be enhanced by distributing information related to stunting through formal and non-formal education and teaching good parenting to reduce the prevalence of stunting among children aged below five years in stunting locus villages.

Most of the S oil field producers experienced rapid decline in production and this is suspected due to fine sediment particle migration and plugging. The S field team had carried out external formation damage study as they have no expertise and field experience to determine the damage mechanism and evaluate the best acid treatment recipe for their formation damage. Recently, mixtures of traditional hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids have been used for the removal of near-wellbore damage in S field sandstone formations. The stimulation campaign in this field which has turbidite reservoir, high clay content predominantly by kaolinite and illite with high siderite mineralogy applied both bullheading and coiled tubing squeezing techniques. The treating fluid selection is highly dependent on mineralogical data and laboratory works. Based on the core flood testing performed, high strength mud acid is chosen as the main treatment fluid and gave superior result in permeability recovery as compared to milder organic acid and HF. Unfortunately, the actual field stimulation turned out to be opposite from the core flood testing outcomes. The situation is worsened in multistage treatments, which traditionally involve many repeat stages of preflush, main treatment, overflush and diverter. The mud acid stimulation prompted more water production and fine migration that is ended up with production curtailment. Only one out of four of the treated candidates resulted significant gain after gas lift valve change took place. This paper also will outline the reviews on results of laboratory testing and field actual performance together with the recommendations for future improvement. Stringent candidate selection, improved treatment fluids cocktail, operational challenges such as unanticipated longer flow back period, post treatment unwanted precipitation, ineffective diverter placement and skin build up post treatment are among of the learning points captured in this paper. From this unfavorable mud acid stimulation campaign which cost USD4million value leakage, our team comes out with best practices for future stimulation and key learning to share with industry colleagues who has no field background to combat with fine migration issue in their sandstone asset. Laboratory works is not the only paramount to any stimulation, success in stimulation is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.

Aerial mapping is now widely used for plenty of applications especially in generating digital terrain models. In this Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, the digital product is integrated with each other to add a new value-added into industries. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to deliberate the integration process between aerial photography, airborne LiDAR, and airborne IFSAR for enhancing the airborne IFSAR quality and come out with new value-added aerial mapping products. The aerial photography was used to enhance the ORI IFSAR imagery through the image fusion method and LiDAR DTM was used to enhance the accuracy of IFSAR DTM through the DTM fusion method. For image fusion, the result shows that colorized ORI imagery (CORI) was generated. On the other hand, terrain profiling analysis was conducted to validate the result of DTM fusion based on by using LiDAR DTM as a benchmark. The result shows that the fused DTM accuracy is nearest to LiDAR DTM compared to IFSAR DTM. This result also shows that new value-added aerial mapping products can be generated from this integration process.

Clinical learning is a fundamental element in nursing curricula from the sourcing of appropriate experiences for students to national board registration requirements and workforce requirements. For nursing students, the first year of their first semester experience of being in the clinical area is daunting and the exposure to caring for life is overbearing for them. Students are very scared of making mistakes and harming the patients. Good clinical nursing environment is not only plays an important role in the development of the students’ competency but also their confidence, organizational skills, and practical preparedness. The purpose of this study was to prepare the first year nursing students the confidence level through structured clinical teaching initiatives, called CNI. This is a Quasi Experimental one group pre and post-test design. Samples had been selected from 30 students of the Diploma of Nursing program in First Year and First Semester. CNI emphasized the structured clinical teaching and supervision for three consecutive semesters from Semester 1 to Semester 3. Results revealed that, students exhibited high selfconfidence level after the implementation of CNI especially in delivery of patient care. The students’ ability to listen, to recognize, to identify health issues even from non-verbal cues on patients’ problem was one of the highest achievements after the implementation of the CNI. In conclusion, a structured program on how to guide students learning in the clinical placement will improve the confidence level especially for the beginners and no matter how weak the guideline is, it’s really worth it.

The failing rate of Medical science subjects which were taught to students from the Bachelor of Nursing Program in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was between 35%-45% every semester. This exploratory survey was designed to examine the issues, perception and experiences related to the learning of these subjects. Thirty, year one nursing students participated in this study. Data was analysis indicated that 53% of the students did not expect these subjects in nursing, 70% were not satisfied with the way these subjects were conducted and 40% wanted different teaching strategies. This study reveals a need to reform the teaching and learning of these subjects to a more student-centered approach.

The fatigue that is observed in patients who are undergoing dialysis is usually associated with an impaired quality of life. The present cross-sectional study was conducted from January to April 2009 in three hemodialysis units in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this study, the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory and Depression Anxiety and Stress Score 21 were used to determine the level of fatigue, depression, anxiety, and stress of patients who were undergoing dialysis. The data were obtained from a calculated sample of 116 and a total of 103 respondents participated in the study. A total of 56 (54.4%) and 47 (45.6%) respondents experienced a high level and a low level of fatigue, respectively. There was a significant relationship between the duration of treatment and the level of fatigue. The respondents who had been receiving treatment for > 2 years experienced more fatigue, compared to the respondents who had been undergoing hemodialysis for > 2 years. There was a significant difference in relation to the age of the participants regarding the level of fatigue. No significant relationship between the sex of the participants, anemia, depression, anxiety, stress, and the level of fatigue was observed. Special attention needs to be paid to both the younger and older adults who are receiving treatment. In addition, proper planning is needed for the patients regarding their daily activities in order to reduce fatigue. Nurses who work in hemodialysis units are recommended to provide exercise classes or group therapy in order to boost the energy levels among patients who are undergoing dialysis. Health professionals should provide appropriate treatment for patients who are experiencing fatigue in order to prevent any other complications that could arise.

Introduction: Teaching strategy for nursing students need to be varied for the future preparation and to increase confident level in delivering quality care to patients. Interprofessional learning (IPL) is a way to encourage collaboration among health professional teams that will drive them to collaborate with, from and about other profession and thus, it allow students to have greater knowledge. Currently, they are unable to learn together during the clinical posting due to professional boundaries. Objective: To explore nursing student knowledge and perception on interprofessional learning. Method: This paper presents a focus group discussion with a group of nursing students (n= 8). A semi structured guide was used and focused on knowledge, experiences and benefit related to IPL. Result: Data was analysed and four major themes emerged; 1. learning with, from and about other health professionals, 2. communication skills, 3. teamwork and 4. future preparation. Conclusion: This study suggested that the interprofessional learning in the teaching and learning strategy should be introduced to the nursing students as to involve them with interprofessional learning and extend their understanding on other health professionals roles. In addition, it is an opportunity for them to work collaboratively with other health professionals.

Background: Performance evaluation is a continuous process. In nursing, clinical performance encompasses more than just cognitive skills; it also requires skills from affective and psychomotor domains. The aim of this study was to evaluate the staff performance that had been trained within an environment of “everything is new to everyone.” Methods: A comparative descriptive study was conducted on 113 nurse graduates with 33 head nurses as first evaluator, and seven nurse managers as second evaluator. The instrument used is consisted of 33 items with six domains of performance: punctuality, physical appearance, attitude and commitment to work, service excellence, positive relationship & communication skills, and leadership skills; together with three sets of open-ended structured questions. Results: Eighty six (76.10%) graduates were rated as “excellent” and 20 (17.69%) were rated as “very good”. Thus, 106 (93.8%) of the nurse graduates had performed well if the two groups "excellent" and " very good" were to be put together as one. Conclusion: The performance evaluations by both evaluators were found to be consistent meanwhile personal qualities such as wisdom and reflection were found to be important in determining an erratic staff performance evaluation © 2012 GESDAV

Confidence level among nursing student is an important factor to enable them to carry out their duties competently in the clinical area. Most of the time nursing students lacked confidence in clinical skills. Data was collected from the month of February to April 2008 using a tool adopted from Beech, 2003 on 189 nursing students in a nursing college. The results revealed that 90.5% (n=171) were not confident in providing and managing care for patients. Changes in the nursing curriculum that encourages more of student centered study activities can cause a change in the students’ confidence level in the clinical setting.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) within the Nursing Practice Environment (NPE) is important in determining issues associated with unsafe practice, unproductiveness or incompetent nurses. A descriptive correlational study was designed to determine the best practice initiative in NPE whereby 395 (94.3%) nurses participated. This study showed that the highest mean score was 2.91 on ‘Nursing Foundations for Quality of Care’ of which 314 (79.5%) nurses highly agreed that CNE programs are the most important. In conclusion, CNE program is the best practice initiative and it is recommended that CNE will encourage lifelong and transformational learning in the nursing career. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Introduction Recently, Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) has been debated as an important process in learning due to the unexpected growth in professional knowledge, rapid changes in the healthcare system and the changes in nurses’ roles (Glazer, 1999; Lundgren & Houseman, 2002; Brunt, 2003). Dramatic advances and transformations in healthcare organizations contributed to the need of adjustment among the healthcare practitioners as it is a professional necessities to maintain competence and to safeguard the public in facing the issues of expansion in technology, consumer request for quality care, pressure for cost containment, increased patient acuity and complexity in disease process (Bittner & Tobin, 1998; Kuhar, 1998; Boychuck, 1999). CNE programs, such as an online learning between nursing consultant and nurses along with monthly Clinical Pathological Conference (CPC) which is also known as interactive learning experiences while working, is a good practice for nurses within the nursing practice environment (NPE) (Durham & Alden, 2008). Teaching and learning of medical sciences in nursing was identified as the cause of anxiety among students, teachers and the organizations. The aim of this study was to determine the difficulties faced by nursing students in those modules. An action research was conducted on 1st and 2nd year of Bachelor of Nursing students. Results showed that, relationship between CGPA, students’ guide book (p= 0.021, 0.018), lectures timetable (p =0.032), lectures (p=0.034, 0.043) and learning package (p=0.008, 0.016) of physiology and biochemistry influenced the teaching and learning of medical science subjects.
