10. Styles of collaboration between entities within different sectors of communities when working on sustainability-related projects

Abstract

Collaboration is a necessary strategy to cope with problems of environmental sustainability among the sectors of society. Individual actors such as government, business and non-governmental organisation are not possible to solve the problems associated with sustainable development on their own. This research provides new insights of academic and practice relevance by using a variety of methods to explore into nature of the relationship between the view of sustainability and the type of organisation in which the organisation collaborates with others to support sustainable development. The literature review reveals that there is a different interpretation of sustainability viewed by the different sectors of society where the focus is based on organisational context. However, this study, which involved exploration of the activities of a broad range of entities in a variety of sectors, adopts a more critical perspective and highlights significant correlations between the different views and the way organisation collaborate with others. This study employs a phenomenological approach and comprises of two stages of semi-structured interviews with the top-level of management in an organisation to examine different experiences of forming a collaboration in sustainability-related projects. I use the case study in the United Kingdom to identify the different role of the actors of society in pursuing sustainability. From the research findings, I find that there is a disconnection between the underlying motivation driving the organisation and its vision in pursuing sustainability. The motivation itself rather than the declared vision tends to shape the style of relationship.

Abstract

Interest in the pathophysiology, etiology, management, and outcomes of patients with tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has grown in the wake of multiple natural history studies showing progressively worse outcomes associated with increasing TR severity, even after adjusting for multiple comorbidities. Historically, isolated tricuspid valve surgery has been associated with high in-hospital mortality rates, leading to the development of transcatheter treatment options. The aim of this first Tricuspid Valve Academic Research Consortium document is to standardize definitions of disease etiology and severity, as well as endpoints for trials that aim to address the gaps in our knowledge related to identification and management of patients with TR. Standardizing endpoints for trials should provide consistency and enable meaningful comparisons between clinical trials. A second Tricuspid Valve Academic Research Consortium document will focus on further defining trial endpoints and will discuss trial design options.

Abstract

The railway is an essential mode of transportation. Despite advances in railway safety over the past few decades, train accidents and incidents continue to be prevalent. From statistical data around 80% of railroad accidents are caused by human error. Consequently, a detailed reliability assessment for every system connected to railways must include a study of human reliability. The needs of human reliability analysis considered as an important criterion for the smooth and zero injuries operation in the complex Railway systems. The European standard EN 50126 emphasizes that human reliability is a necessary element for railway engineering. In this study of human reliability and analysis specifically a study on driver profile of an electric train. Within a complete driving operation, railway drivers are presented with a variety of error-producing conditions. These circumstances, when paired with essential human characteristics, lead to a variety of errors. Many accidents and mishaps in complex systems, including the railway system, are caused by human error. The purpose of this paper is to determine human factors influence the degree of occupational injuries by accidents. Besides that, some motivating aspects of human factor in a way that enables the concept of zero injuries in Railway Transportation Industry are introduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

44. BrainGAN: Brain MRI Image Generation and Classification Framework Using GAN Architectures and CNN Models

Abstract

Deep learning models have been used in several domains, however, adjusting is still required to be applied in sensitive areas such as medical imaging. As the use of technology in the medical domain is needed because of the time limit, the level of accuracy assures trustworthiness. Because of privacy concerns, machine learning applications in the medical field are unable to use medical data. For example, the lack of brain MRI images makes it difficult to classify brain tumors using image-based classification. The solution to this challenge was achieved through the application of Generative Adversarial Network (GAN)-based augmentation techniques. Deep Convolutional GAN (DCGAN) and Vanilla GAN are two examples of GAN architectures used for image generation. In this paper, a framework, denoted as BrainGAN, for generating and classifying brain MRI images using GAN architectures and deep learning models was proposed. Consequently, this study proposed an automatic way to check that generated images are satisfactory. It uses three models: CNN, MobileNetV2, and ResNet152V2. Training the deep transfer models with images made by Vanilla GAN and DCGAN, and then evaluating their performance on a test set composed of real brain MRI images. From the results of the experiment, it was found that the ResNet152V2 model outperformed the other two models. The ResNet152V2 achieved 99.09% accuracy, 99.12% precision, 99.08% recall, 99.51% area under the curve (AUC), and 0.196 loss based on the brain MRI images generated by DCGAN architecture.
