7. “Multimode vibration cutting” – A new vibration cutting for highly-efficient and highly-flexible surface texturing

Abstract

This paper proposes a new vibration cutting method named “multimode vibration cutting” for precision surface texturing. The proposed cutting method utilizes multiple unidirectional vibration modes mainly in the depth-of-cut direction. The vibrations at multiple frequencies induced to the tool tip can generate not only sinusoidal but also highly-flexible trajectories such as trapezoidal, triangular, and distorted triangular waves. Notably, only a sinusoidal vibration can be induced when a single resonant vibration is applied to the tool tip. Compared to conventional highly-flexible cutting methods for surface texturing, such as the utilization of fast tool servo and amplitude control of ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting, the proposed method is highly-efficient because of its direct usage of high resonant frequencies. Compared to conventional highly-efficient cutting methods for surface texturing, such as linear and elliptical vibration cutting which mainly utilizes the vibration component in the depth-of-cut direction, the proposed method can generate highly-flexible trajectories for various micro texture profiles. In this study, an ultrasonic multimode vibration device is developed, and the mechanics of generating multimode vibrations are demonstrated. Turning experiments with several texture profiles are performed to confirm the validity of the proposed method for highly-efficient and highly-flexible micro/nano surface texturing.

Abstract

In the high frequency electromagnetic field analysis using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), the perfectly matched layer (PML) is often adopted to implement the absorbing boundary condition (ABC). However, it requires much computation time to get enough accuracy of analysis with sufficiently small reflection. In order to overcome such a difficulty, this paper describes a novel technique that combines the constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method with the FDTD method to solve problems faster. As a result of analysis of a typical model of differential transmission line, the computation time could be reduced to 60% compared with the FDTD method with the ordinary PML. Abstract

IEEE1394 and Ethernet systems are being extensively adopted for data communications equipment, including audiovisual equipment and personal computers. This paper proposes a wiring system that enables the simultaneous transmission of IEEE1394 signals and Ethernet signals along a single UTP. CAT5 cable consisting of four twisted pairs. The requirements of this wiring system were determined by taking into account the specifications of both IEEEI394 and Ethernet systems and the actual domestic environment. Home Network adapters were developed to connect IEEE1394 and Ethernet cable to UTP cable. Insertion loss, crosstalk, and eye-diagrams were measured to evaluate the system's performance. The results show that our proposed wiring system is capable of transmitting both the IEEE1394 signal and the Ethernet signal simultaneously at 100 Mbps up to a distance of 100 m along a UTP-CAT5 cable.

Abstract

Telecommunications signal emissions from unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable should be suppressed to maintain EMC of telecommunication systems. This paper describes the suppression effects of the ferrite cores which are installed on the UTP cable. Twisted pair wire with ferrite core was modeled by 4-port network to evaluate suppression effect. Parameters of the networks which are constructed with UTP cable or ferrite core with wires were determined from calculation and measurement. Using the networks, the common-mode current distribution on the cable was obtained, and emitted electric field strength was calculated from the distribution. The emission suppression effect was obtained from the result, and the results were almost agreed with measured value. Abstract

Seven patients who had been receiving capecitabine+oxaliplatin±bevacizumab(CapeOX±BV)therapy at our hospital between February 2010 and March 2011, had complained of angialgia during oxaliplatin(L-OHP)administration. Therefore, 3. 3 mg of dexamethasone(DEX)was added to their infusion solution. The patients were then asked to rate their angialgia severity using a numerical rating scale(NRS), when L-OHP in a 5% dextrose solution was administered with or without DEX. By changing the L-OHP in 5% dextrose solution without DEX to the solution containing 3. 3 mg of DEX, the mean NRS was improved to 2. 4 from 7. 1. These findings indicate that L-OHP in 5% dextrose solution mixed with 3. 3 mg of DEX seems to be useful in reducing angialgia during peripheral administration of L-OHP.
