Abstract: The half-life of $^{39}$Ar is measured using the DEAP-3600 detector located 2 km underground at SNOLAB. In 2016-2020, DEAP-3600 used a target mass of (3269 $\pm$ 24) kg of liquid argon distilled from the atmosphere in a direct-detection dark matter search. Such an argon mass also enables direct measurements of argon isotope properties. The decay of $^{39}$Ar in DEAP-3600 is the dominant source of triggers by two orders of magnitude, ensuring high statistics and making DEAP-3600 well-suited for measuring this isotope's half-life. Use of the pulse-shape discrimination technique in DEAP-3600 allows for powerful discrimination between nuclear recoils and electron recoils, resulting in the selection of a clean sample of $^{39}$Ar decays. Observing over a period of 3.4 years, the $^{39}$Ar half-life is measured to be $(302 \pm 8_{\rm stat} \pm 6_{\rm sys})$ years. This new direct measurement suggests that the half-life of $^{39}$Ar may be significantly longer than the accepted value, with potential implications for measurements using this isotope's half-life as input., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures

4. OmniJet-${\alpha_{ C}}$: Learning point cloud calorimeter simulations using generative transformers

Abstract: We show the first use of generative transformers for generating calorimeter showers as point clouds in a high-granularity calorimeter. Using the tokenizer and generative part of the OmniJet-${\alpha}$ model, we represent the hits in the detector as sequences of integers. This model allows variable-length sequences, which means that it supports realistic shower development and does not need to be conditioned on the number of hits. Since the tokenization represents the showers as point clouds, the model learns the geometry of the showers without being restricted to any particular voxel grid.

Abstract: DarkSide-20k is a novel liquid argon dark matter detector currently under construction at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) that will push the sensitivity for Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) detection into the neutrino fog. The core of the apparatus is a dual-phase Time Projection Chamber (TPC), filled with \SI{50} {tonnes} of low radioactivity underground argon (UAr) acting as the WIMP target. NUV-HD-Cryo Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM)s designed by Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) (Povo, Trento, Italy) were selected as the photon sensors covering two $10.5~\text{m}^2$ Optical Planes, one at each end of the TPC, and a total of $5~\text{m}^2$ photosensitive surface for the liquid argon veto detectors. This paper describes the Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) plan and procedures accompanying the production of FBK~NUV-HD-Cryo SiPM wafers manufactured by LFoundry s.r.l. (Avezzano, AQ, Italy). SiPM characteristics are measured at 77~K at the wafer level with a custom-designed probe station. As of May~2024, 603 of the 1400 production wafers (43\% of the total) for DarkSide-20k were tested, including wafers from all 57 production Lots. The wafer yield is $93.6\pm2.5$\%, which exceeds the 80\% specification defined in the original DarkSide-20k production plan.

6. Aspen Open Jets: Unlocking LHC Data for Foundation Models in Particle Physics

Abstract: Foundation models are deep learning models pre-trained on large amounts of data which are capable of generalizing to multiple datasets and/or downstream tasks. This work demonstrates how data collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider can be useful in pre-training foundation models for HEP. Specifically, we introduce the AspenOpenJets dataset, consisting of approximately 180M high $p_T$ jets derived from CMS 2016 Open Data. We show how pre-training the OmniJet-$\alpha$ foundation model on AspenOpenJets improves performance on generative tasks with significant domain shift: generating boosted top and QCD jets from the simulated JetClass dataset. Abstract: Children with ADHD tend to present with poorer cognitive functioning leaving them more vulnerable to a range of negative outcomes. To date, only a handful of longitudinal studies have examined the stability of Wechsler composite scores in children and adolescents with ADHD, and none of them used a more recent version of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children (WISC), than the WISC-III.

8. A model-free test of the time-reversibility of climate change processes

Abstract: Time-reversibility is a crucial feature of many time series models, while time-irreversibility is the rule rather than the exception in real-life data. Testing the null hypothesis of time-reversibilty, therefore, should be an important step preliminary to the identification and estimation of most traditional time-series models. Existing procedures, however, mostly consist of testing necessary but not sufficient conditions, leading to under-rejection, or sufficient but non-necessary ones, which leads to over-rejection. Moreover, they generally are model-besed. In contrast, the copula spectrum studied by Goto et al. ($\textit{Ann. Statist.}$ 2022, $\textbf{50}$: 3563--3591) allows for a model-free necessary and sufficient time-reversibility condition. A test based on this copula-spectrum-based characterization has been proposed by authors. 9. Quantiles and Quantile Regression on Riemannian Manifolds: a measure-transportation-based approach

Abstract: Increased attention has been given recently to the statistical analysis of variables with values on nonlinear manifolds. A natural but nontrivial problem in that context is the definition of quantile concepts. We are proposing a solution for compact Riemannian manifolds without boundaries; typical examples are polyspheres, hyperspheres, and toro\"{\i}dal manifolds equipped with their Riemannian metrics. Our concept of quantile function comes along with a concept of distribution function and, in the empirical case, ranks and signs. The absence of a canonical ordering is offset by resorting to the data-driven ordering induced by optimal transports. Theoretical properties, such as the uniform convergence of the empirical distribution and conditional (and unconditional) quantile functions and distribution-freeness of ranks and signs, are established. Statistical inference applications, from goodness-of-fit to distribution-free rank-based testing, are without number. Of particular importance is the case of quantile regression with directional or toro\"{\i}dal multiple output, which is given special attention in this paper. The UAr cryogenics system must maintain stable thermodynamic conditions throughout the experiment's lifetime of >10 years. Continuous removal of impurities and radon from the UAr is essential for maximising signal yield and mitigating background. We are developing an efficient and powerful cryogenics system with a gas purification loop with a target circulation rate of 1000 slpm. Central to its design is a condenser operated with liquid nitrogen which is paired with a gas heat exchanger cascade, delivering a combined cooling power of >8 kW. Here we present the design choices in view of the DS-20k requirements, in particular the condenser's working principle and the cooling control, and we show test results obtained with a dedicated benchmarking platform at CERN and LNGS. We find that the thermal efficiency of the recirculation loop, defined in terms of nitrogen consumption per argon flow rate, is 95 % and the pressure in the test cryostat can be maintained within $\pm$(0.1-0.2) mbar. We further detail a 5-day cool-down procedure of the test cryostat, maintaining a cooling rate typically within -2 K/h, as required for the DS-20k inner detector. Additionally, we assess the circuit's flow resistance, and the heat transfer capabilities of two heat exchanger geometries for argon phase change, used to provide gas for recirculation. We conclude by discussing how our findings influence the finalisation of the system design, including necessary modifications to meet requirements and ongoing testing activities., Comment: 45 pages, 24 figures

Abstract: Within data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) systems for industrial applications, ensuring the reliability of the incoming data streams is an integral part of trustworthy decision-making. An approach to assess data validity is data quality scoring, which assigns a score to each data point or stream based on various quality dimensions. However, certain dimensions exhibit dynamic qualities, which require adaptation on the basis of the system's current conditions. Existing methods often overlook this aspect, making them inefficient in dynamic production environments. In this paper, we introduce the Adaptive Data Quality Scoring Operations Framework, a novel framework developed to address the challenges posed by dynamic quality dimensions in industrial data streams. The framework introduces an innovative approach by integrating a dynamic change detector mechanism that actively monitors and adapts to changes in data quality, ensuring the relevance of quality scores. We evaluate the proposed framework performance in a real-world industrial use case. Abstract: We develop a machine learning method for mapping data originating from both Standard Model processes and various theories beyond the Standard Model into a unified representation (latent) space while conserving information about the relationship between the underlying theories. We apply our method to three examples of new physics at the LHC of increasing complexity, showing that models can be clustered according to their LHC phenomenology: different models are mapped to distinct regions in latent space, while indistinguishable models are mapped to the same region. Abstract: The SNO+ detector operated initially as a water Cherenkov detector. The implementation of a sealed covergas system midway through water data taking resulted in a significant reduction in the activity of $^{222}$Rn daughters in the detector and allowed the lowest background to the solar electron scattering signal above 5 MeV achieved to date. This paper reports an updated SNO+ water phase $^8$B solar neutrino analysis with a total livetime of 282.4 days and an analysis threshold of 3.5 MeV. The $^8$B solar neutrino flux is found to be $\left(2.32^{+0.18}_{-0.17}\text{(stat.)}^{+0.07}_{-0.05}\text{(syst.)}\right)\times10^{6}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ assuming no neutrino oscillations, or $\left(5.36^{+0.41}_{-0.39}\text{(stat.)}^{+0.17}_{-0.16}\text{(syst.)} \right)\times10^{6}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ assuming standard neutrino oscillation parameters, in good agreement with both previous measurements and Standard Solar Model Calculations. Abstract: Several fundamental and closely interconnected issues related to factor models are reviewed and discussed: dynamic versus static loadings, rate-strong versus rate-weak factors, the concept of weakly common component recently introduced by Gersing et al. (2023), the irrelevance of cross-sectional ordering and the assumption of cross-sectional exchangeability, the impact of undetected strong factors, and the problem of combining common and idiosyncratic forecasts. Conclusions all point to the advantages of the General Dynamic Factor Model approach of Forni et al. (2000) over the widely used Static Approximate Factor Model introduced by Chamberlain and Rothschild (1983).

Abstract: The dual-phase liquid argon time projection chamber is presently one of the leading technologies to search for dark matter particles with masses below 10 GeV/c$^2$. This was demonstrated by the DarkSide-50 experiment with approximately 50 kg of low-radioactivity liquid argon as target material. The next generation experiment DarkSide-20k, currently under construction, will use 1,000 times more argon and is expected to start operation in 2027. Based on the DarkSide-50 experience, here we assess the DarkSide-20k sensitivity to models predicting light dark matter particles, including Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) and sub-GeV/c$^2$ particles interacting with electrons in argon atoms. With one year of data, a sensitivity improvement to dark matter interaction cross-sections by at least one order of magnitude with respect to DarkSide-50 is expected for all these models. A sensitivity to WIMP--nucleon interaction cross-sections below $1\times10^{-42}$ cm$^2$ is achievable for WIMP masses above 800 MeV/c$^2$. Abstract: The SNO+ collaboration reports its first spectral analysis of long-baseline reactor antineutrino oscillation using 114 tonne-years of data. Fitting the neutrino oscillation probability to the observed energy spectrum yields constraints on the neutrino mass-squared difference $\Delta m^2_{21}$. In the ranges allowed by previous measurements, the best-fit $\Delta m^2_{21}$ is (8.85$^{+1.10}_{-1.33}$) $\times$ 10$^{-5}$ eV$^2$. This measurement is continuing in the next phases of SNO+ and is expected to surpass the present global precision on $\Delta m^2_{21}$ with about three years of data.

Abstract: Experiments aimed at direct searches for WIMP dark matter require highly effective reduction of backgrounds and control of any residual radioactive contamination. In particular, neutrons interacting with atomic nuclei represent an important class of backgrounds due to the expected similarity of a WIMP-nucleon interaction, so that such experiments often feature a dedicated neutron detector surrounding the active target volume. In the context of the development of DarkSide-20k detector at INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS), several R&D projects were conceived and developed for the creation of a new hybrid material rich in both hydrogen and gadolinium nuclei to be employed as an essential element of the neutron detector. Thanks to its very high cross-section for neutron capture, gadolinium is one of the most widely used elements in neutron detectors, while the hydrogen-rich material is instrumental in efficiently moderating the neutrons. In this paper results from one of the R&Ds are presented. In this effort the new hybrid material was obtained as a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix, loaded with gadolinium oxide in the form of nanoparticles. We describe its realization, including all phases of design, purification, construction, characterization, and determination of mechanical properties of the new material.

19. Consistent Distribution Free Affine Invariant Tests for the Validity of Independent Component Models

Abstract: We propose a family of tests of the validity of the assumptions underlying independent component analysis methods. The tests are formulated as L2-type procedures based on characteristic functions and involve weights; a proper choice of these weights and the estimation method for the mixing matrix yields consistent and affine-invariant tests. Due to the complexity of the asymptotic null distribution of the resulting test statistics, implementation is based on permutational and resampling strategies. This leads to distribution-free procedures regardless of whether these procedures are performed on the estimated independent components themselves or the componentwise ranks of their components. A Monte Carlo study involving various estimation methods for the mixing matrix, various weights, and a competing test based on distance covariance is conducted under the null hypothesis as well as under alternatives. A real-data application demonstrates the practical utility and effectiveness of the method.

20. OmniJet-$\alpha$: The first cross-task foundation model for particle physics

Abstract: Foundation models are multi-dataset and multi-task machine learning methods that once pre-trained can be fine-tuned for a large variety of downstream applications. The successful development of such general-purpose models for physics data would be a major breakthrough as they could improve the achievable physics performance while at the same time drastically reduce the required amount of training time and data. We report significant progress on this challenge on several fronts. First, a comprehensive set of evaluation methods is introduced to judge the quality of an encoding from physics data into a representation suitable for the autoregressive generation of particle jets with transformer architectures (the common backbone of foundation models). These measures motivate the choice of a higher-fidelity tokenization compared to previous works. Finally, we demonstrate transfer learning between an unsupervised problem (jet generation) and a classic supervised task (jet tagging) with our new OmniJet-$\alpha$ model. This is the first successful transfer between two different and actively studied classes of tasks and constitutes a major step in the building of foundation models for particle physics.

Abstract: Quantiles are a fundamental concept in probability and theoretical statistics and a daily tool in their applications. While the univariate concept of quantiles is quite clear and well understood, its multivariate extension is more problematic. After half a century of continued efforts and many proposals, two concepts, essentially, are emerging: the so-called (relabeled) geometric quantiles, extending the characterization of univariate quantiles as minimizers of an L1 loss function involving the check functions, and the more recent center-outward quantiles based on measure transportation ideas. These two concepts yield distinct families of quantile regions and quantile contours. Our objective here is to present a comparison of their main theoretical properties and a numerical investigation of their differences.

Abstract: The direction of individual B8 solar neutrinos has been reconstructed using the SNO+ liquid scintillator detector. Prompt, directional Cherenkov light was separated from the slower, isotropic scintillation light using time information, and a maximum likelihood method was used to reconstruct the direction of individual scattered electrons. A clear directional signal was observed, correlated with the solar angle. The observation was aided by a period of low primary fluor concentration that resulted in a slower scintillator decay time. This is the first time that event-by-event direction reconstruction in high light-yield liquid scintillator has been demonstrated in a large-scale detector.

Abstract: Global potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from soil are accelerating, with increases in the proportion of reactive nitrogen emitted as N2O, i.e., N2O emission factor (EF). Yet, the primary controls and underlying mechanisms of EFs remain unresolved. Based on two independent but complementary global syntheses, and three field studies determining effects of acidity on N2O EFs and soil denitrifying microorganisms, we show that soil pH predominantly controls N2O EFs and emissions by affecting the denitrifier community composition. Analysis of 5438 paired data points of N2O emission fluxes revealed a hump-shaped relationship between soil pH and EFs, with the highest EFs occurring in moderately acidic soils that favored N2O-producing over N2O-consuming microorganisms, and induced high N2O emissions. Our results illustrate that soil pH has a unimodal relationship with soil denitrifiers and EFs, and the net N2O emission depends on both the N2O/(N2O + N2) ratio and overall denitrification rate. These findings can inform strategies to predict and mitigate soil N2O emissions under future nitrogen input scenarios.

Abstract: The study aimed at describing a case of auditory brainstem implant (ABI) paediatric re-implantation performed at the Akademiska University Hospital, Sweden. The patient was a boy with Goldenhar syndrome with absent vestibular-cochlear nerves and was first implanted with an ABI in 2009 at the age of two years. A technical device failure in 2015 led to a re-implantation at the age of nine years. The ABI was successfully re-implanted although the implant was closely attached to the surrounding tissue and difficult to remove. The intraoperative electrical auditory brainstem measures (eABRs) gave unclear responses after re-implantation. After 12 months, the patient’s hearing thresholds was not as good as it was after the primary implant, but it is still developing. The child is a full-time user. ABI re-implantation is possible even after many years, although there is a risk that the implant might be fixed to the brainstem and difficult to remove.

Abstract: Dynamic factor models have been developed out of the need of analyzing and forecasting time series in increasingly high dimensions. While mathematical statisticians faced with inference problems in high-dimensional observation spaces were focusing on the so-called spiked-model-asymptotics, econometricians adopted an entirely and considerably more effective asymptotic approach, rooted in the factor models originally considered in psychometrics. The so-called dynamic factor model methods, in two decades, has grown into a wide and successful body of techniques that are widely used in central banks, financial institutions, economic and statistical institutes. The objective of this chapter is not an extensive survey of the topic but a sketch of its historical growth, with emphasis on the various assumptions and interpretations, and a family tree of its main variants.

31. Testing the persuasiveness of meme based arguments by analogy

Abstract: Psychologists have noted that analogical reasoning is pervasive in argumentation (Kuhn, 1992; Holyoak, 1997), but the forms these arguments can take varies substantially. Memes are one common format or argument-by-analogy. Memes are widely recognized images or templates that compares two situations to each other for the purpose of making some (often questionable) point. Even though memes-as-arguments are readily visible on social media, the persuasiveness of this category of argument-by-analogy---and specifically the features that predict their persuasiveness---have not been established. This study investigates whether and in what ways arguments by analogy, delivered in the form of a meme, are persuasive. We develop a large set of memes representing common meme structures, political leaning, and familiarity and examined how these factors predict a meme's perceived clarity, persuasiveness, and memorability, along with these memes effects on beliefs about issues such as climate change, immigration, and racism.

Abstract: The classical concept of bounded completeness and its relation to sufficiency and ancillarity play a fundamental role in unbiased estimation, unbiased testing, and the validity of inference in the presence of nuisance parameters. In this short note, we provide a direct proof of a little-known result by \cite{Far62} on a characterization of bounded completeness based on an $L^1$ denseness property of the linear span of likelihood ratios. As an application, we show that an experiment with infinite-dimensional observation space is boundedly complete iff suitably chosen restricted subexperiments with finite-dimensional observation spaces are.

Abstract: The direct search for dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP) is performed by detecting nuclear recoils (NR) produced in a target material from the WIMP elastic scattering. A promising experimental strategy for direct dark matter search employs argon dual-phase time projection chambers (TPC). One of the advantages of the TPC is the capability to detect both the scintillation and charge signals produced by NRs. Furthermore, the existence of a drift electric field in the TPC breaks the rotational symmetry: the angle between the drift field and the momentum of the recoiling nucleus can potentially affect the charge recombination probability in liquid argon and then the relative balance between the two signal channels. This fact could make the detector sensitive to the directionality of the WIMP-induced signal, enabling unmistakable annual and daily modulation signatures for future searches aiming for discovery. The Recoil Directionality (ReD) experiment was designed to probe for such directional sensitivity. The TPC of ReD was irradiated with neutrons at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud, and data were taken with 72 keV NRs of known recoil directions. The direction-dependent liquid argon charge recombination model by Cataudella et al. was adopted and a likelihood statistical analysis was performed, which gave no indications of significant dependence of the detector response to the recoil direction. 34. The Relationship between Speech Accuracy and Linguistic Measures in Narrative Retells of Children with Speech Sound Disorders

Abstract: Background: Speech and language are interconnected systems, and language disorder often co-occurs with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and non-CAS speech sound disorders (SSDs). Potential trade-off effects between speech and language in connected speech in children without overt language disorder have been less explored. Method: Story retell narratives from 24 children (aged 5;0-6;11 [years;months]) with CAS, non-CAS SSD, and typical development were analyzed in Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT) regarding morphosyntactic complexity (mean length of C-unit in words [MLCU]), lexical diversity (moving-average type-token ratio [MATTR]), and linguistic accuracy (any linguistic error/bound morpheme omissions) and compared to 128 age-matched children from the SALT database. Linear and mixed-effects logistic regressions were performed with speech accuracy (percent phonemes correct [PPC]) and diagnostic group as predictors of the narrative variables. Results: PPC predicted all narrative variables. Poorer PPC was associated with lower MLCU and MATTR as well as a higher likelihood of linguistic errors. Group differences were only observed for the error variables. Comparison to the SALT database indicated that 13 of 16 children with CAS and SSD showed a higher-than-expected proportion of linguistic errors, with a small proportion explained by individual speech errors only. Conclusions: The high occurrence of linguistic errors, combined with the relationship between PPC and linguistic errors in children with CAS/SSD, suggests a trade-off between speech accuracy and language output. Longitudinal studies are needed to investigate whether children with SSDs without language disorder show more language difficulties over time as linguistic demands increase.

35. Monotone Measure-Preserving Maps in Hilbert Spaces: Existence, Uniqueness, and Stability

Abstract: The contribution of this work is twofold. The first part deals with a Hilbert-space version of McCann's celebrated result on the existence and uniqueness of monotone measure-preserving maps: given two probability measures $\rm P$ and $\rm Q$ on a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ where $\rm P$ does not give mass to "small sets" (namely, Lipschitz hypersurfaces), we show, without imposing any moment assumptions, that there exists a gradient of convex function $\nabla\psi$ pushing ${\rm P} $ forward to ${\rm Q}$. In case $\mathcal{H}$ is infinite-dimensional, ${\rm P}$-a.s. uniqueness is not guaranteed, though. If, however, ${\rm Q}$ is boundedly supported (a natural assumption in several statistical applications), then this gradient is ${\rm P}$ a.s. unique. In the second part of the paper, we establish stability results for transport maps in the sense of uniform convergence over compact "regularity sets". As a consequence, we obtain a central limit theorem for the fluctuations of the optimal quadratic transport cost in a separable Hilbert space.

36. DQSOps: Data Quality Scoring Operations Framework for Data-Driven Applications

Abstract: Data quality assessment has become a prominent component in the successful execution of complex data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) software systems. In practice, real-world applications generate huge volumes of data at speeds. These data streams require analysis and preprocessing before being permanently stored or used in a learning task. Therefore, significant attention has been paid to the systematic management and construction of high-quality datasets. Nevertheless, managing voluminous and high-velocity data streams is usually performed manually (i.e. offline), making it an impractical strategy in production environments. To address this challenge, DataOps has emerged to achieve life-cycle automation of data processes using DevOps principles. However, determining the data quality based on a fitness scale constitutes a complex task within the framework of DataOps. This paper presents a novel Data Quality Scoring Operations (DQSOps) framework that yields a quality score for production data in DataOps workflows. The framework incorporates two scoring approaches, an ML prediction-based approach that predicts the data quality score and a standard-based approach that periodically produces the ground-truth scores based on assessing several data quality dimensions. We deploy the DQSOps framework in a real-world industrial use case. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To establish the method of isolation and culture of human glioblastoma neurospheres, and the purification of their stem cells, followed by the process of obtaining tumor subspheres, immunophenotypically characterizing this clonogenic set. METHODS: Through the processing of glioblastoma samples (n=3), the following strategy of action was adopted: (i) establish primary culture of glioblastoma; (ii) isolation and culture of tumor neurospheres; (iii) purify cells that initiate tumors (CD133+) by magnetic separation system (MACS); (iv) obtain tumor subspheres; (v) study the expression of the markers nestin, CD133, and GFAP. RESULTS: The study successfully described the process of isolation and culture of glioblastoma subspheres, which consist of a number of clonogenic cells immunophenotypically characterized as neural, which are able to initiate tumor formation. CONCLUSION: These findings may contribute to a better understanding of the process of gliomagenesis.

Abstract: The specific activity of the beta decay of $^{39}$Ar in atmospheric argon is measured using the DEAP-3600 detector. DEAP-3600, located 2 km underground at SNOLAB, uses a total of (3269 $\pm$ 24) kg of liquid argon distilled from the atmosphere to search for dark matter. This detector with very low background uses pulseshape discrimination to differentiate between nuclear recoils and electron recoils and is well-suited to measure the decay of $^{39}$Ar. With 167 live-days of data, the measured specific activity at the time of atmospheric extraction is [0.964 $\pm$ 0.001 (stat) $\pm$ 0.024 (sys)] Bq/kg$_{\rm atmAr}$ which is consistent with results from other experiments. A cross-check analysis using different event selection criteria provides a consistent result.

39. Nonparametric Measure-Transportation-Based Methods for Directional Data

Abstract: This paper proposes various nonparametric tools based on measure transportation for directional data. We use optimal transports to define new notions of distribution and quantile functions on the hypersphere, with meaningful quantile contours and regions and closed-form formulas under the classical assumption of rotational symmetry. The empirical versions of our distribution functions enjoy the expected Glivenko-Cantelli property of traditional distribution functions. They provide fully distribution-free concepts of ranks and signs and define data-driven systems of (curvilinear) parallels and (hyper)meridians. Based on this, we also construct a universally consistent test of uniformity and a class of fully distribution-free and universally consistent tests for directional MANOVA which, in simulations, outperform all their existing competitors. A real-data example involving the analysis of sunspots concludes the paper.

Abstract: Today, machine learning (ML) is widely used in industry to provide the core functionality of production systems. However, it is practically always used in production systems as part of a larger end-to-end software system that is made up of several other components in addition to the ML model. Due to production demand and time constraints, automated software engineering practices are highly applicable. The increased use of automated ML software engineering practices in industries such as manufacturing and utilities requires an automated Quality Assurance (QA) approach as an integral part of ML software. Here, QA helps reduce risk by offering an objective perspective on the software task. Although conventional software engineering has automated tools for QA data analysis for data-driven ML, the use of QA practices for ML in operation (MLOps) is lacking. This paper examines the QA challenges that arise in industrial MLOps and conceptualizes modular strategies to deal with data integrity and Data Quality (DQ). The paper is accompanied by real industrial use-cases from industrial partners. 42. Center-Outward Multiple-Output Lorenz Curves and Gini Indices a measure transportation approach

Abstract: Based on measure transportation ideas and the related concepts of center-outward quantile functions, we propose multiple-output center-outward generalizations of the traditional univariate concepts of Lorenz and concentration functions, and the related Gini and Kakwani coefficients. These new concepts have a natural interpretation, either in terms of contributions of central ("middle-class") regions to the expectation of some variable of interest, or in terms of the physical notions of work and energy, which sheds new light on the nature of economic and social inequalities. Importantly, the proposed concepts pave the way to statistically sound definitions, based on multiple variables, of quantiles and quantile regions, and the concept of "middle class," of high relevance in various socio-economic contexts.

Abstract: We introduce a new technique named Latent CATHODE (LaCATHODE) for performing "enhanced bump hunts", a type of resonant anomaly search that combines conventional one-dimensional bump hunts with a model-agnostic anomaly score in an auxiliary feature space where potential signals could also be localized. The main advantage of LaCATHODE over existing methods is that it provides an anomaly score that is well behaved when evaluating it beyond the signal region, which is essential to prevent the sculpting of background distributions in the bump hunt. LaCATHODE accomplishes this by constructing the anomaly score directly in the latent space learned by a conditional normalizing flow trained on sideband regions. Abstract: Dark matter lighter than 10 GeV/c$^2$ encompasses a promising range of candidates. A conceptual design for a new detector, DarkSide-LowMass, is presented, based on the DarkSide-50 detector and progress toward DarkSide-20k, optimized for a low-threshold electron-counting measurement. Sensitivity to light dark matter is explored for various potential energy thresholds and background rates. These studies show that DarkSide-LowMass can achieve sensitivity to light dark matter down to the solar neutrino floor for GeV-scale masses and significant sensitivity down to 10 MeV/c$^2$ considering the Migdal effect or interactions with electrons. Requirements for optimizing the detector's sensitivity are explored, as are potential sensitivity gains from modeling and mitigating spurious electron backgrounds that may dominate the signal at the lowest energies.

Abstract: The SNO+ Collaboration reports the first evidence of reactor antineutrinos in a Cherenkov detector. The nearest nuclear reactors are located 240 km away in Ontario, Canada. This analysis uses events with energies lower than in any previous analysis with a large water Cherenkov detector. Two analytical methods are used to distinguish reactor antineutrinos from background events in 190 days of data and yield consistent evidence for antineutrinos with a combined significance of 3.5σ.

50. Center-outward Rank- and Sign-based VARMA Portmanteau Tests: Chitturi, Hosking, and Li--McLeod revisited

Abstract: The pseudo-Gaussian portmanteau tests of Chitturi, Hosking, and Li and McLeod for VARMA models are revisited from a Le Cam perspective, providing a precise and more rigorous description of the asymptotic behavior of the multivariate portmanteau test statistic, which depends on the dimension $d$ of the observations, the number $m$ of lags involved, and the length $n$ of the observation period. Then, based on the concepts of center-outward ranks and signs recently developed (Hallin, del Barrio, Cuesta-Albertos, and Matr\' an, {\it Annals of Statistics} 49, 1139--1165, 2021), a class of multivariate rank- and sign-based portmanteau test statistics is proposed which, under the null hypothesis and under a broad family of innovation densities, can be approximated by an asymptotically chi-square variable.
