The article discusses the discourse analysis of Doctor Jill Wilkinson on the sources of power and agency for nursing by examining the recommendations by New Zealand's Ministerial Taskforce on Nursing to achieve full utilisation of nursing services. Among the issues tackled by the taskforce are access to funding, leadership, and research, resourcing the nursing workforce, and scope of nursing expansion. Also cited is Wilkinson's study on the creation of the nursing practitioner (NP) role.

Objective: Patient experience significantly impacts healthcare quality, outcomes, resource utilisation and treatment adherence. Digital technologies offer promising approaches for capturing real-time, multi-faceted patient experiences. This scoping review investigated how digital technologies are used to capture patient experience during healthcare encounters and their potential to improve health service delivery and care., Methods: A scoping review was conducted to determine associations between patients' use of digital technology and subsequent outcomes. Four electronic databases were searched using six combination search terms in titles and/or abstracts published between 2016 and 2022. Inclusion criteria focused on studies where patients were primary users of digital technology, reporting on their experience during care. Studies had to report on at least one outcome: health service delivery, quality of care or patient experience. Screening, data extraction and analysis were performed systematically., Results: Of the 377 studies retrieved, 20 were included. Most studies incorporated aspects allowing patients to share experiences with digital technologies. Eighty percent ( n  = 16) of studies reported improvements in patient experiences, 75% ( n  = 15) enhancements in service delivery aspects and 50% ( n  = 10) indicated improved quality of care associated with the use of digital technologies. Real-time journaling and narrative methods alongside treatment were linked to improved communication, healthcare efficiencies and patient agency. Technologies facilitating bidirectional communication were particularly associated with positive effects on patients' sense of agency., Conclusion: Digital technologies facilitating documentation of patient experiences demonstrate potential in enhancing care quality through increased patient voice, collaboration and agency. Technologies designed to map and evaluate patients' healthcare experiences represent a promising approach to improving healthcare outcomes, service delivery and overall patient experience. Further research is needed to establish standardised methodologies and evaluate long-term impacts across diverse populations. Extremely obese patients pose significant challenges for those who strive to provide care. The prevalence and consequences of weight bias and stigma in health care have been well documented, but research on how to reduce weight bias and stigma is limited. To assess the impact of simulating obesity on the attitudes and perceptions of health professionals toward extreme obesity, a qualitative study involving 6 registered nurses and 1 registered physiotherapist was conducted between November 2015 and May 2016. Health professionals who had regular contact with persons with obesity were recruited through poster advertisement in 1 hospital and 2 universities. Participants completed a demographic survey that included their physical measurements (height, weight, and waist circumference). They then wore a suit simulating the shape and size of a person with extreme obesity for approximately 2 hours and engaged in activities such as taking public transport or visiting a café. Audiotaped, semistructured interviews were conducted before and after the suit exercise and transcribed verbatim for conventional content analysis that identified 3 main categories: 1) insights into the physical challenges facing people with extreme obesity; 2) awareness of social consequences for people with extreme obesity; and 3) changes in participants' attitudes toward people with extreme obesity. Following the exercise, personal attitudes were found to be less judgmental and more empathetic. Using a simulation suit may increase awareness among health professionals regarding issues facing persons with obesity and may be a positive influence on diffusing weight stigma and bias in health care settings, particularly in the area of wound prevention and management where excess weight often requires additional nursing care that may exacerbate existing biases. Ethical guidance needs to be developed in conjunction with further research to explore the risks and benefits of using simulation suits in clinical practice and education.
