Increasing temperature due to frictional heat from sliding between contacting surfaces leads to increased wear and friction. Therefore, the researchers continue investigations to find the most suitable friction materials with good mechanical and thermal properties for frictional facings of clutch performance under this condition. In this research paper, the behavior and performance of the friction material HCC was studied under different normal load conditions (125, 175, 225, and 275 N) and different working environment temperatures (300 K and 390 K), where the rotation speed was 300 rpm. The results of the coefficient of friction and friction forces variation under different working conditions were analyzed and discussed in detail. XTM 500 tribometer test rig was used to perform the required tests, and the samples were made of the HCC friction material. The obtained results proved that the ambient temperature of the friction system has a significant negative effect on both the coefficient of friction and the force of friction. So, when the friction system's ambient temperature increases, the magnitude of the friction coefficient will decrease, and, thus, the transmitted torque will reduce too.

This paper aims to elucidate the clear visibility of attenuating seismic waves (SWs) with forest trees as natural metamaterials known as forest metamaterials (FMs) arranged in a periodic pattern around the protected area. In analyzing the changeability of the FM models, five distinct cases of “metawall” configurations were considered. Numerical simulations were conducted to study the characteristics of bandgaps (BGs) and vibration modes for each model. The finite element method (FEM) was used to illustrate the generation of BGs in low frequency ranges. The commercial finite element code COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4a was adopted to carry out the numerical analysis, utilizing the sound cone method and the strain energy method. Wide BGs were generated for the Bragg scattering BGs and local resonance BGs owing to the gradual variations in tree height and the addition of a vertical load in the form of mass to simulate the tree foliage. The results were promising and confirmed the applicability of FEM based on the parametric design language ANSYS 17.2 software to apply the boundary conditions of the proposed models at frequencies below 100 Hz. The effects of the mechanical properties of the six layers of soil and the geometric parameters of FMs were studied intensively. Unit cell layouts and an engineered configuration for arranging FMs based on periodic theory to achieve significant results in controlling ground vibrations, which are valuable for protecting a large number of structures or an entire city, are recommended. Prior to construction, protecting a region and exerting control over FM characteristics are advantageous. The results exhibited the effect of the ‘trees’ upper portion (e.g., leaves, crown, and lateral bulky branches) and the gradual change in tree height on the width and position of BGs, which refers to the attenuation mechanism. Low frequency ranges of less than 100 Hz were particularly well suited for attenuating SWs with FMs. However, an engineering method for a safe city construction should be proposed on the basis of the arrangement of urban trees to allow for the shielding of SWs in specific frequency ranges.

A wind turbine blade is an essential system of wind energy production. During the operation of the blade, it is subjected to loads resulting from the impact of the wind on the surface of the blade. This leads to appear large deflections and high fatigue stresses in the structure of blades. In this paper, a 5 kW horizontal axis wind turbine blade model is designed and optimized using a new MATLAB code based on blade element momentum (BEM) theory.The aerodynamic shape of the blade has been improved compared with the initial design, the wind turbine power has been increased by 7% and the power coefficient has been increased by 8%. The finite Element Method was used to calculate the loads applied to the blade based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and BEM theory.High agreements were obtained between the results of both approaches (CFD and BEM).The ANSYS software was also used to simulate and optimize the structure of the blade by applying variable static loads 3.3, 6, and 8.3 kg and compared the results with the experimental results. It was reduced the maximum deflectionswith 37%, 42.85%, and 42.61% when using CFRP material and 4.5%, 15.45%, and 16.19% for GFRP material that corresponds to the applied forces. Based on the results, the mass of the optimized model decreased by 47.86% for GFRP and 71.24% for CFRP. IEC 61400.2 standard was used to estimate thefatigue loads, damage, blade life prediction, and verify blade safety usinga Simplified Load Model(SLM) and FAST software. It was found that the blade will be safe under extreme wind loads, and the lifetime of the wind blade (GFRP) is 5.5 years and 10.25 years,according to SLM and FAST software, respectively. At the same time, the lifetime of the wind blade (CFRP)is more than 20 years, according to the two applied methods.

The influence of different concentrations and nanoparticles’ diameter of silicon dioxide nanoparticles on the Nusselt number enhancement ratio and friction factor for solar thermal collector (STC) was examined numerically. The CFD model was designed to show the influence of the flow of water/SiO2 and pure water inside the pipe on the enhancement of the performance of the STC. Different concentrations of SiO2 nanoparticles are used (ϕ = 1–4%) with several nanoparticle diameters (dp = 20–50 nm). The water/SiO2 and pure water flow under different Reynolds numbers ranging from 5,000 to 30,000. The average Nusselt numbers Nuavg improved by increasing the Reynolds numbers for both fluids. The Nuavg increases with the increase in the concentration of SiO2 nanoparticles. The water/SiO2 with nanoparticle concentration of (ϕ = 5%) and nanoparticle diameter of (dp = 20 nm) has the highest Nusselt number. The Nuavg enhances 25% with water/SiO2 nanofluid flow at Re = 5,000 and 15% flow at Re = 30,000. It is noted that the skin friction factor decreases with the increase in the Reynolds number for both fluids. Water/SiO2 nanofluid has a higher skin friction factor than pure water. The Nuavg improved by 31% at the lowest Reynolds number by using water/SiO2 nanofluid as the working fluid with a change in the concentration of SiO2 nanoparticles from (ϕ = 1%) to (ϕ = 4%) and improved by 42% at the highest Reynolds number of 30,000. The decrease in the nanoparticle diameter led to an increase in the Nusselt number across all Reynolds numbers. The lowest size SiO2 nanoparticles (dp = 20 nm) provides the highest Nusselt number. The lowest size SiO2 nanoparticles (dp = 20 nm) provide the highest ratio of enhancement for the Nusselt number in STC. This investigation has confirmed that the flow of water/SiO2 with AL2O3 nanoparticles of 5% (diameter of 20 nm) has a significant influence on heat transfer enhancement to improve the thermal efficiency of STC.
