Valbenazine is approved in the US for treatment of tardive dyskinesia (TD); however, efficacy/safety data in Asian populations are lacking. We assessed the efficacy/safety of valbenazine in Japanese patients.This phase II/III, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (NCT03176771) included adult psychiatric patients with TD, who were randomly allocated to receive placebo or valbenazine (once-daily 40- or 80-mg) for a 6-week, double-blind period, after which the placebo group was switched to valbenazine for a 42-week extension. The primary endpoint was change from baseline in Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) total score at Week 6; clinical global impression of improvement of TD (CGI-TD) was also assessed.Of 256 patients, 86, 85, and 85 were allocated to the 40-mg valbenazine, 80-mg valbenazine, and placebo groups, respectively. Least-squares mean (95% confidence interval) change from baseline in AIMS score at Week 6 was -2.3 (-3.0 to -1.7) in the valbenazine 40-mg group, -3.7 (-4.4 to -3.0) in the 80-mg group, and -0.1 (-0.8 to 0.5) in the placebo group; both treatment groups showed statistically significant improvements vs. placebo. Patients switched to valbenazine at Week 6 showed similar improvements in AIMS scores, which were maintained to Week 48. Improvements in CGI-TD scores were observed for both treatment groups vs. placebo. Incidence of adverse events was highest in the 80-mg group; common events included nasopharyngitis, somnolence, schizophrenia worsening, hypersalivation, insomnia, and tremor.The efficacy/safety profile of valbenazine was similar to that of previous clinical trials, supporting its use for TD treatment in Japanese patients.

To propose reference values for air-kerma at the reference point (Ka,r), air-kerma area product (PKA), fluoroscopy time (FT) and number of cine images (CI) for four age groups in Japan, a nationwide questionnaire was posted to 132 pediatric catheterisation of certified facility in Japan, using the conventional post system, to which 43 facilities responded. For diagnostic cardiac angiography, reference values were as follows: Ka,r: 86, 102, 165 and 264 mGy; PKA: 9.3, 9.5, 16 and 34 Gy.cm2; FT: 33, 29, 26 and 30 min and CI: 1904, 1966, 2405 and 1871 images. For therapeutic cardiac angiography, reference values were as follows: Ka,r: 107, 163, 103 and 202 mGy; PKA: 7.5, 18, 7 and 24 Gy.cm2; FT: 56, 52, 42 and 30 min and CI: 3886, 3232, 2212 and 4316 images for less than 1, 1–5, 6–10 and 11–15 y, respectively. To optimal patient exposure from diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterisation, it is therefore necessary to establish reference values for pediatric cardiac catheterisation examinations for four age groups.

To propose typical values for the arrhythmia region between pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and nonpulmonary vein isolation (non-PVI) in Japan. A nationwide questionnaire was posted to 343 facilities, to which 125 facilities (36.4%) responded. Results is the median for PVI and non-PVI were in terms of Ka,r (317 and 196 mGy), PKA (40.8 and 26.3 Gy.cm2), FT (43.0 and 27.3 min), and CI (326 and 102 images). When comparing PVI and non-PVI procedures, there were significant differences in Ka, r, PKA, FT, and CI (p In other words, by classifying into two types, PVI and non-PVI, we contributed to the establishment of typical values in Japan’s RFCA.

In the revised Regulation on Prevention of Ionizing Radiation Hazards (April 2020), the equivalent dose limit for the lens of the eye was lowered to "100 mSv in 5 years and 50 mSv in 1 year." It is necessary to reduce occupational exposure in the healthcare sector. The purpose of this study was to facilitate comparison with the equivalent dose limit in an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) examination by measuring the scattered dose in an X-ray room as an individual dose equivalent.The scattered dose was measured by dosimeters positioned in a grid pattern in the X-ray room. The dose rate was measured with and without the use of a protective cloth (0.25 mm Pb equivalent) suspended around the X-ray tube extending to the patient. The dose reduction rate of the material was evaluated during the simulated ERCP.The maximum dose rate at the position of the surgeon performing an ERCP inspection in the standing position was 2.9 mSv/h (3 mm dose equivalent rate) at 150 cm from the ground. The number of ERCP examinations to comply with the equivalent dose limit of the equivalent dose of the lens of the eye without the protective cloth was 28 per year.The results of this study suggest that individual dose equivalent measurements in the X-ray clinic may facilitate comparison with the equivalent dose limit.

Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate whether the detectability of brain volume change in voxel-based morphometry (VBM) with gray matter images is affected by mild white matter lesions (MWLs). Materials and methods Three-dimensional T1-weighted images (3D-T1WIs) of 11 healthy subjects were obtained using a 3T MR scanner. We initially created 3D-T1WIs with focal cortical atrophy simulated cortical atrophy in left amygdala (type A) and the left medial frontal lobe (type B) from control 3D-T1WIs. Next, the following three types of MWL images were created: type A + 1L and type B + 1L images, only one white matter lesion; type A + 4L and type B + 4L images, four white matter lesions at distant positions; and type A + 4L* and type B + 4L* images, four white matter lesions at clustered positions. Comparisons between the control group and the other groups were performed with VBM using segmented gray matter images. Results The gray matter volume was significantly lower in the type A group than in the control group, and similar results were observed in the type A + 1L, type A + 4L, and type A + 4L* groups. Additionally, the gray matter volume was significantly lower in the type B group than in the control group, and similar results were observed in the type B + 1L, type B + 4L, and type B + 4L* groups, but the cluster size in type B + 4L* was smaller than that in type B. Conclusion Our study showed that the detectability of brain volume change in VBM with gray matter images was not decreased by MWLs as lacunar infarctions. Therefore, we think that group comparisons with VBM should be analyzed by groups including and excluding subjects with MWLs, respectively.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of changing the contrast of an analyzed image on the accuracy of intracranial volume (ICV) extraction using the Brain Extraction Tool (BET2) in healthy adults and patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), including infants. Twelve SWS patients, including infants, and 12 healthy participants were imaged on a 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. All individuals underwent quantification of relaxation times and proton density using multi-echo acquisition of saturation recovery with turbo-spin-echo readout (QRAPMASTER). Based on the QRAPMASTER data, we created images with seven contrasts (T1-WI, T2-WI, PD-WI, T2 short-tau inversion recovery [STIR], proton density [PD] STIR, T2STIR + PDSTIR, and T1-WI + T2-WI + PD-WI) by post-processing with SyMRI software. ICVs extracted with BET2 from the FMRIB (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain) Software Library with each of the seven image contrasts were compared with manually extracted ICVs, which is the gold standard reviewed by a board-certificated neuroradiologist. Manual extraction was performed on T1-WI and T2STIR. Statistical analyses were performed with Jaccard similarity coefficients (J). The highest J score was found in T1-WI + T2-WI + PD-WI in all participants (0.8451); T1-WI in healthy participants (0.8984); T2STIR in participants with SWS (0.8325). Our findings suggest that T1-WI and T2STIR should be used in ICV extraction performed using BET2 on healthy participants and infants, respectively. Additionally, if the analyzed individuals include both healthy participants and infants, T1-WI + T2-WI + PD-WI should be used.

PURPOSE It is very important to manage the radiation dose of cardiovascular interventional (CVI) procedures. Overseas, the diagnostic reference levels for cardiac interventional procedures were established with the air kerma at the patient entrance reference point (Ka,r) and the air kerma-area product (PKA). Although the Japan DRLs 2015 was established by the Japan Network for Research and Information on Medical Exposure (J-RIME), the Japan DRL for CVIs were established by fluoroscopic dose rates of 20 mGy/min at the patient entrance reference point with 20 cm thickness polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom. In the present our study, we performed a questionnaire survey of indicated values of angiographic parameters in CVI procedures. METHODS A nationwide questionnaire was sent by post to 765 facilities. Question focused on angiographic technology, exposure parameters and radiation doses as the displayed dosimetric parameters on the angiographic machine. RESULTS The recovery rate was 22.8% at 175 out of 765 facilities. In total 1728 cases of the coronary angiography (CAG), 1703 cases of the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), 962 cases of the radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) and 377 cases of pediatric CVI. The 75th percentile value of Ka,r, PKA, fluoroscopy time (FT) and number of cine images (CI) for CAG, PCI, RFCA and pediatric CVI were 702, 2042, 644, and 159 mGy, respectively, 59.3, 152, 81.3, and 14.9 Gy・cm2, respectively, 10.2, 35.6, 61.1, and 35.6 min, respectively and 1503, 2672, 722, and 2378 images, respectively. Our investigation showed that the angiographic parameters were different in several CVI procedures. CONCLUSIONS The displayed dosimetric parameters on the angiographic machine in CVI procedures showed different values. We should classify the dosimetric parameters for each procedure.

Background Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) using magnetic resonance imaging (MR) has been used to estimate cortical atrophy associated with various diseases. However, there are mis-segmentations of segmented gray matter image in VBM. Purpose To study a twofold evaluation of single- and multi-channel segmentation using synthetic MR images: (1) mis-segmentation of segmented gray matter images in transverse and cavernous sinuses; and (2) accuracy and repeatability of segmented gray matter images. Material and Methods A total of 13 healthy individuals were scanned with 3D quantification using an interleaved Look–Locker acquisition sequence with a T2 preparation pulse (3D-QALAS) sequence on a 1.5-T scanner. Three of the 13 healthy participants were scanned five consecutive times for evaluation of repeatability. We used SyMRI software to create images with three contrasts: T1-weighted (T1W), T2-weighted (T2W), and proton density-weighted (PDW) images. Manual regions of interest (ROI) on T1W imaging were individually set as the gold standard in the transverse sinus, cavernous sinus, and putamen. Single-channel (T1W) and multi-channel (T1W + T2W, T1W + PDW, and T1W + T2W + PDW imaging) segmentations were performed with statistical parametric mapping 12 software. Results We found that mis-segmentations in both the transverse and cavernous sinuses were large in single-channel segmentation compared with multi-channel segmentations. Furthermore, the accuracy of segmented gray matter images in the putamen was high in both multi-channel T1W + PDW and T1W + T2W + PDW segmentations compared with other segmentations. Finally, the highest repeatability of left putamen volumetry was found with multi-channel segmentation T1WI + PDWI. Conclusion Multi-channel segmentation with T1WI + PDWI provides good results for VBM compared with single-channel and other multi-channel segmentations.

Background Atlas-based volumetry using three-dimensional T1-weighted (3D-T1W) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used previously to evaluate the volumes of intracranial tissues. Purpose To evaluate the detectability of volume difference and accuracy for volumetry using smoothed data with an atlas-based method. Material and Methods Twenty healthy individuals and 24 patients with idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) underwent 3-T MRI, and sagittal 3D-T1W images were obtained in all participants. Signal values (as tissue probability) of voxels in five segmented data types (gray matter, white matter, cerebrospinal fluid [CSF], skull, soft tissue) derived from the 3D-T1W images with SPM 12 software were assigned simulated 3D-T1W signal intensities to each tissue image. The assigned data were termed “reference data.” We created a reference 3 D-T1W image that included the reference data of all five tissue types. Standard volumes were measured for the reference CSF data with region of interest of lateral ventricle in native space, and measured volumes were obtained for non-smoothed and smoothed-modulated data. Detectability was evaluated between measured volumes in the healthy control and iNPH groups. Accuracy was evaluated as the difference between the mean measured and standard volumes. Results In group comparison of measured volumes between the healthy control and iNPH groups, the lowest P value was for smoothed-modulated CSF data. In both groups, the largest difference from the standard volume was found for the mean of the measured volumes for smoothed-modulated CSF data. Conclusion Our study shows that using smoothed data can improve detectability in group comparison. However, using smoothed data reduces the accuracy of volumetry.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of injecting basic fibroblast growth factor following surgical induced anterior disc displacement in temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Materials and methods Adult male Japanese white rabbits (n = 16; 2.0–2.5 kg; 10 weeks old) were assigned to experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, anterior disc displacement was induced in the bilateral TMJ. Recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (rh bFGF) 0.1 μg/1 μL aqueous solution was injected into the left retro-discal connective tissue close to the disc (ADL group), and saline alone was injected into the same site on the right (ADR group). In the control group, a sham operation without disc position change was performed in the bilateral TMJ (CR group and CL group). Four animals from the experimental (ADR and ADL) and control (CR and CL) groups were sacrificed at 1 and 12 weeks postoperatively to evaluate the mandibular morphology and computed tomographic (CT) value of the condylar head, using 3 dimensional computed tomography. Furthermore, cartilage layers and disc tissue were examined histologically. Results Regarding CT value at the 0° site of the condylar surface, ADR showed the lowest value after 1 week (P = 0.0325). However, there were no significant differences among the 4 groups regarding CT values at the other degree sites after 1 and 12 weeks. Regarding mandibular length, ADR showed the lowest value after 12 weeks (P = 0.0079). In condylar width, ADR showed the lowest value after 1 week (P = 0.0097). Conclusion This study suggested that surgically induced anterior disc displacement could affect condylar morphology in the early stage, and could decrease mandibular length in the late stage. However, bFGF injection into the TMJ might prevent the degenerative change derived from anterior disc displacement and inhibition of sequential mandibular growth.

To propose Japanese national DRLs for air-kerma at the reference point (Ka,r), air-kerma area product (PKA), fluoroscopy time (FT), and number of cine images (CI) for four age groups. We posted a nationwide questionnaire to 132 facilities. Questions focused on identifying the procedure, age, weight, height, Ka,r, PKA, FT, and CI during diagnostic and therapeutic pediatric cardiac catheterization. For diagnostic cardiac angiography, the 75th percentile values were as follows; Ka,r: 103, 127, 194, and 351 mGy; PKA: 7.0, 12.3, 14.3, and 47.2 Gy.cm2; FT: 36.8, 30.7, 33.4, and 35.7 min; and CI: 2018, 2313, 2408, and 2016 images for less than one year, 1–5 years, 6–10 years, and 11–15 years respectively. For therapeutic cardiac angiography, the 75th percentile values were as follows: Ka,r: 146, 209, 130, and 501 mGy; PKA: 7.54, 16.0, 8.35, and 46.0 Gy.cm2; FT: 56.5, 52.0, 49.4, and 52.0 min; and CI: 4075, 4514, 3576, and 5984 images for less than one year, 1–5 years, 6–10 years, and 11–15 years respectively. Our survey of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization in Japanese pediatric patients showed that all age-based Japanese 75th percentiles for the Ka,r, PKA, FT, and CI were higher than in other surveys. Based on the result of our study, it is necessary to establish DRLs for pediatric cardiac catheterization examinations in Japan, in order to optimize the safety of pediatric protocols for diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization.

Brain extraction represents an important step in numerous neuroimaging analyses. The brain extraction tool (BET)2 is a widely used deformable model-based approach for extraction of intracranial volume (ICV). The aim of this study is to estimate the ICV extraction accuracy using synthetic MR(SyMRI) method and BET2 in healthy adult participants and patients with Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS), including infants. 'Quantification of relaxation times and proton density by multi-echo acquisition of saturation recovery with turbo-spin-echo readout' (QRAPMASTER) with a 3.0 T magnetic resonance image (MRI) system was used for data acquisition. Statistical evaluations were performed with linear regression analysis and the Jaccard similarity coefficient (J). ICV extraction accuracy with synthetic MR method is found to be higher than BET2, for both aged healthy participants and SWS.

Japanese Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) were released as "Japan DRLs 2015" from Japan Network for Research and Information on Medical Exposure (J-RIME) in June 2015. In "Japan DRLs 2015", DRLs in angiography and interventional procedures are set at a fluoroscopic dose rate of 20 mGy/min at the interventional reference point using a phantom. In order to achieve optimization with DRLs, then it need to be revised regularly. Therefore, we (research group to examine the effect of Japan DRLs 2015 and the necessity of additional items in angiography and vascular interventions) examined the effects of "Japan DRLs 2015" on angiography and interventional procedures. And we also investigated for DRLs revision in the future. As a result, it turned out that it is important to create DRLs in medical procedures that can be effectively used in clinical settings.

Deterministic effects have been reported in cardiac interventional procedures. To prevent radiation skin injuries in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), it is necessary to measure accurate patient entrance skin dose (ESD) and maximum skin absorbed dose (MSD). We measured the MSD on 62 patients in four facilities by using the Chest-RADIREC(Ⓡ) system. The correlation between MSD and fluoroscopic time, dose area product (DAP), and cumulative air kerma (AK) showed good results, with the correlation between MSD and AK being the strongest. The regression lines using MSD as an outcome value (y) and AK as predictor variables (x) was y=1.18x (R(2)=0.787). From the linear regression equation, MSD is estimated to be about 1.18 times that of AK in real time. The Japan diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) 2015 for IVR was established by the use of dose rates using acrylic plates (20- cm thick) at the interventional reference point. Preliminary reference levels proposed by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were provided using DAP. In this study, AK showed good correlation most of all. Hence we think that Japanese DRLs for IVR should reconsider by clinical patients' exposure dose such as AK.

Background Minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), via minithoracotomy, is thought to be a fast track to extubation and recovery after surgery. For this, good coverage analgesia is essential. Epidural anesthesia, a standard technique for thoracic surgery, has high risk of complications, such as epidural abscess and spinal hematoma in open-heart surgery. Based on the hypothesis that continuous paravertebral block (CPVB), a less invasive regional anesthetic technique, is safe and effective in open-heart surgery, we applied CPVB to MICS with thoracotomy. Findings To assess whether CPVB could be used in open-heart surgery with fewer potential complications, we investigated our medical records of the 87 adult patients who underwent MICS at Akashi Medical Center, Hyogo, Japan, between March 2009 and May 2016. We collected data of CPVB-related complications, postextubation respiratory failure, duration of intubation, and other analgesic use from hospital clinical records. We observed no severe CPVB-related complications, such as hematoma, neuropathy, or abscess. PT-INR longer than 1.1 was associated with CPVB-related minor bleeding. Forty-three patients (47.4%) were extubated within 1 h after surgery, and there were no postextubation respiratory failures in any patients. Conclusions We observed no cases of severe CPVB-related complications or postextubation respiratory failure in any of our patients who underwent MICS. Preoperative prolongation of PT-INR was associated with CPVB-related minor bleeding.

During percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO), longer fluoroscopic time as compared with PCI for non-CTO lesions may cause skin injury by increased radiation. We have performed a multi-center observational study comparing the exposed dose during the PCI of CTO (CTO group) and during the PCI of non-CTO lesions (non-CTO group). Exposure doses were assessed in 313 patients with CTO and 3,310 patients with non-CTO lesions. Total fluoroscopy time (59.0 ±35.5 vs 26.8 ±18.8 min, p0.0001) and the total air kerma (2.76±2.11 vs 1.27±0.94 Gy, p0.0001) were significantly greater in the CTO group than in the non-CTO group. The maximum air kerma of the CTO group was 13.62 Gy. Informed consent about the risk of transient depilation and the transient erythema is required for the case with radiation dose over 3 Gy. The frequency of the patient who received radiation3 Gy was significantly higher in the CTO group as compared with the non-CTO group (34.1% vs 4.9%). Therefore, informed consent before an operation and postoperative follow-up are indispensable for the performed PCI of CTO. Moreover, comprehensive understanding of the exposure dose during operation and to record the final exposure dose may be extremely important for the radiological technologists.

The present authors studied pyrolysis of lignite with internal recycling of a heavier portion of the liquid product (oil), employing a reactor that experimentally simulated continuous pyrolysis in a gas–solid countercurrent moving-bed reactor. The lignite particles traveled through the isothermal section at the temperature (Tiso) of 140 or 180 °C and then the non-isothermal section from Tiso to the peak pyrolysis temperature (Tp) of 600 °C. We report here the results of a dose evaluation based on information obtained in a 2011 questionnaire as compared with an investigation made in 2007. Briefly, in general radiography, the dose used in most examinations in 2011 was lower than in 2007. However, since the entrance surface dose for chest X-rays showed an increase, there is a need to standardize the taking of digital images to be able to decrease the dose. Although computed tomography dose index volume (CTDIvol) in CT examinations was higher than that revealed in the 2007 investigation, there is potential for dose reduction.

We carried out a questionnaire survey to research on radiographic conditions in 3000 institutes. We discussed on radiographic conditions to estimate patient exposures. The collection rate was 24.7%. Most of the institutes shifted to the use of high-voltage generator, digital devices, and filmless equipment. We did not see a shift in this survey of radiographic conditions compared with the 2007 survey.

This study examined surface modification of a solder resist and dry film resist by 60 Hz nonequilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma using O2/N2 gas. Surface modification is extremely important for fine-pitch printed wiring board (PWB) manufacturing processes. Results show that the 0.1% of O2/N2 mixing ratio was the best condition for surface modification at a 0.45 m/min PWB substrate transportation speed. The triplet oxygen atom (3P) density and the quintet nitrogen atom (4S) density were measured using vacuum ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (VUVAS). The quintet nitrogen atom was measured using VUVAS for the first time ever reported. The gas temperature, electron density, and NO-γ intensity were also evaluated. A triplet oxygen atom with extremely high density of 4.7 × 1013 cm-3 was obtained at a 0.1% O2/N2 mixing ratio, and the density value was higher than that of the conventional atmospheric pressure plasma such as dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) type. The behavior of the triplet oxygen atom density and NO-γ intensity as a function of O2/N2 mixing ratio correlated strongly with surface modification. The 60 Hz nonequilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma using low-cost O2/N2 gas with a 0.1% O2/N2 mixing ratio is expected to be useful for surface modification during fine-pitch PWB manufacturing.

The development of optimized motions of humanoid robots that guarantee fast and also stable walking is an important task, especially in the context of autonomous soccer-playing robots in RoboCup. We present a walking motion optimization approach for the humanoid robot prototype HR18 which is equipped with a low-dimensional parameterized walking trajectory generator, joint motor controller and an internal stabilization. The robot is included as hardware-in-the-loop to define a low-dimensional black-box optimization problem. In contrast to previously performed walking optimization approaches, we apply a sequential surrogate optimization approach using stochastic approximation of the underlying objective function and sequential quadratic programming to search for a fast and stable walking motion. This is done under the conditions that only a small number of physical walking experiments should have to be carried out during the online optimization process. For the identified walking motion for the considered 55 cm tall humanoid robot, we measured a forward walking speed of more than 30 cm s-1 . With a modified version of the robot, even more than 40 cm s-1 could be achieved in permanent operation.

Autonomous soccer games represent an extraordinary challenge for autonomous humanoid robots which must act fast and stable while carrying all needed onboard computers, sensors and batteries. In this paper, the development and system integration of hardware and software modules of the 55-cm tall, autonomous humanoid soccer robot Bruno is described to cope with this challenge. Although based on a "minimalistic" design which only uses gyroscopes in the hip but not foot-ground contact sensors for control of balance, versatile and high-quality walking motions have been developed. Fast forward walking of about 1.5 km/h has been obtained using an efficient sequential surrogate optimization method and walking through uneven terrain with a newly designed passively compliant foot sole. Further modules of the software and control architecture which are needed for an adaptive selection of different motions and autonomous robot behavior are briefly described. Experimental results are reported, which have been obtained under the conditions of a live competition. The robot's hardware is mainly based on standard components which can therefore be easily adapted by new designers, as no comparable, standard humanoid robot platforms are available.

Background Placement of a percutaneous coronary sinus catheter (CSC) by an anesthesiologist for retrograde cardioplegia in minimally invasive cardiac surgery is relatively safe in experienced hands. However, the popularity of its placement remains limited to a small number of centers due to its perceived complexity and potential complications. Methods We retrospectively reviewed all cardiac cases performed by one surgeon between December 2009 and April 2012. The reviewed cases were divided into two groups: cardiac cases with percutaneous CSC placement (CSC group) and cardiac cases without placement (control group). Anesthesia preparation time (APT) was then compared between the CSC group and control group. In the CSC group, cases were further divided into two groups. One group contained cases with an APT of less than 90 min (success group) and the other contained cases with an APT greater than or equal to 90 min or cases with CSC placement failure (delay/failure group). Patients’ characteristics, type of surgery, and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) findings were compared between the two groups (success group vs. delay/failure group) to identify variables associated with prolongation of the APT or CSC placement failure. Results Percutaneous CSC placement was required in 83 cases (CSC group). The catheter was successfully placed in 74 of those cases. We experienced one complication, coronary sinus injury after multiple attempts at placing the catheter. The mean APT was 102 ± 31 min in the CSC group (n = 81) and 42 ± 15 min in the control group (n = 285). We could not identify any variables associated with prolongation of the APT or catheter placement failure. Conclusions The success rate of the placement was 89.1 % in our academic center. On average, placing the CSC added approximately one additional hour to the APT. This time is not an accurate representation of true catheter placement time, as it included time for preparation of the CSC, TEE, and fluoroscopy. We experienced one documented complication (coronary sinus injury), which was immediately diagnosed by TEE and fluoroscopy in the operating room. No variables associated with prolongation of APT or CSC placement failure were identified. In this paper, we describe the system design of the robots developed by our Team CIT Brains for the RoboCup soccer humanoid KidSize league. We have been participating in the Humanoid League for eight years. Two years ago, we redesigned the system to put a large weight on maintainability and usability. In RoboCup 2014, we won the first prizes of 4on4 soccer and technical challenge. Consequently, we were awarded the Louis Vuitton Humanoid Cup. The system we developed has high mobility, well-designed control system, position estimation by a monocular camera, user-friendly interface and a simulator. The robot can walk speedily and robustly. It also has a feedback system with a gyro sensor to prevent falls. It detects positions of landmarks by color-based image processing. A particle filter is employed to localize the robot in the soccer field fusing the motion model and landmark observation.

In this paper, we describe technologies of the robot Accelite that is the winner of the RoboCup2015 Humanoid KidSize League. In 2015, the rules of the humanoid league were changed dramatically. The ball was changed from a monochromatic orange ball to a real soccer ball. Furthermore, the goal color was also changed from yellow to white. Therefore, the soccer robots in the humanoid league were not able to detect the ball based on just colors. We developed some detection methods and verified their effectiveness. Consequently, our robots detected the ball robustly and we succeeded in the technical challenge "Goal-Kick from Moving Ball". In RoboCup 2015, the field of play was also changed from a punch carpet to an artificial grass. Because the pile length of the artificial grass in RoboCup2015 was long, our robots were not able to walk robustly when we started to use the field. We also explain how we solved the problem. We also discuss how we succeeded in the technical challenges.

Because of the more advanced and more complex procedures in interventional radiology (IVR), longer treatment times have become necessary. Therefore, it is important to determine the exposure doses received by operators and patients. Operator doses arising from the use of X-rays are mainly due to scattered radiation. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of estimating operator dose by dose area product (DAP), which shows the total X-ray output from the collimator. DAP showed a strong correlation with the space dose from the fundamental examination. In clinical practice, we measured the exposure doses of the neck, left shoulder, left hand, and right finger using a thermoluminescence dosimeter (TLD). These then were compared with the DAP. The results indicated that the dose equivalents (H70 microm) of the neck and left shoulder were strongly correlated with DAP (r=0.85, 0.86), whereas the H70 microm of the left hand and right finger were less closely correlated (r=0.40, 0.48). In comparison with the fluoroscopic time, the dose equivalents showed a better correlation with DAP in all the evaluated parts. The effective doses for the operator were strongly correlated with DAP (r=0.87). When measurements are not available, dose equivalents and operator effective doses can be estimated by the DAP, as indicated by the strong correlations recognized in this study.

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) nanoball films which include Si nanocrystals, are fabricated by the double-tubed coaxial-line-type microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (DTCL-MPCVD) system. Photoluminescence (PL) is observed at room temperature after the a-Si:H nanoball films are oxidized at high temperature in air and/or pure oxygen atmosphere. In this study, the HF treatment is performed to a-Si:H nanoball. By the HF treatment, the photoluminescence wavelength has shifted from about 740 nm to 590 nm. We have measured the diameter of Si nanocrystal using the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). It is found that the diameter of the Si nanocrystal decreases from about 5.0 nm to 3.0 nm, by the HF treatment. After changing the conditions of oxidation, PL peak wavelengths are shifted from about 740 nm to 500 nm. We have determined the diameter of Si nanocrystal contained in the a-Si:H nanoball using XRD and TEM. Consequently, it is found that the diameter of Si nanocrystal becomes small from about 5.1 nm to 3.4 nm.
