A large number of waste brewer’s spent grains (BSGs) have been produced every year in brewing industry of China, which have the advantages of high volatile matter content and low sulfur content, especially suitable for being utilized as gasification raw materials. Fluidized-bed gasifiers are famous for their excellent gas-solid mixing and temperature uniformity. Therefore, it is of great significance to realize the resource use and energy utilization of BSGs by fluidized-bed gasification. In order to investigate the effects of particle sizes on gas-solid flow behavior and gas production in the fluidized-bed gasification of BSGs, the numerical simulations of the gasification of BSGs in a bubbling fluidized-bed gasifier with air and water vapor as gasification agents were performed, based on computational particle fluid dynamics (CPFD) method. The effects of bed-materials particle sizes and BSGs particle sizes were both studied. The distribution of particle volume fraction, the particle distributions of BSGs and bed materials, and the mole fractions of main gas components were obtained by the CPFD numerical simulation. An experimental apparatus for bubbling fluidized-bed gasification was used to study the effects of bed-materials particle sizes and BSGs particle sizes on the volume fractions of main gas components in the product gas, which validated the numerical simulation results. The results showed that the increases of bed-materials particle sizes were not conductive to adequate fluidization and particle mixing, which made the temperature distribution uneven along the height. The increases of bed-materials particle sizes were also not conductive to the intensive mixing of carbon particles and water vapor, and the uniform heat absorption or heat release of gas-solid reaction and gas-phase reaction, resulting in a significant reduction of H2 mole fraction. The appropriate increases of BSGs particle sizes helped to prolong their residence time in the gasifier, thus improving the reaction conversion rate between solid carbon and water vapor or carbon dioxide, and generating more H2 and CO. However, excessive large BSGs particle sizes caused the poor mixing of BSGs and bed materials, which reduced the specific surface areas of BSGs, and were not conducive to the pyrolysis and gasification reaction, leading to the reduction of the molar fractions of combustible components such as H2, CO, CH4 and NH3.

In response to the issues of poor economic efficiency and high CO2 emissions in the urea-to-ammonia technology of thermal power plants, this paper innovatively proposes a new ammonia production process for thermal power plants. This process utilizes the waste heat of thermal power plant boilers and conducts urea pyrolysis through two-stage heating to prepare ammonia and cyanuric acid. From this, the prepared ammonia can be used in the denitrification process of thermal power plants, and the prepared cyanuric acid can bring additional benefits to thermal power plants. The optimal process scheme was determined through orthogonal experiments of urea pyrolysis. And with the help of Aspen Plus software, a whole-process modeling analysis of urea pyrolysis experiments was carried out to investigate the influences of the melting temperature, melting time, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the process. The results show that when the melting temperature was 160 °C, the melting time was 45 min, the reaction temperature was 240 °C, and the reaction time is 20 min, which was the best scheme, 18.45% ammonia and 52.35% cyanuric acid could be obtained. Through the combined analysis of the Aspen Plus simulation and urea pyrolysis experiments, it was found that the melting temperature should be controlled within 160–167 °C, the melting time should be controlled within 40–45 min, the reaction temperature should be controlled within 240–245 °C, and the reaction time should be controlled within 15–20 min. Compared with the existing urea-to-ammonia process, this process has the advantages of nearly zero emissions and good economic benefits, thus providing reliable research data support for future industrialization.

With the increasingly serious problems of energy shortage and environmental degradation, countries around the world are actively developing safe, environmentally friendly, and renewable energy. Biomass energy has become an ideal substitute for fossil fuels due to its abundant reserves, good renewable performance, and zero carbon emissions. This paper discusses the importance and potential of biomass energy as a renewable energy source for China’s energy development, mainly including the three biomass conversion methods of physics, chemistry, and biology, seven utilization technologies, such as direct combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis, and five application approaches, such as biomass power generation, biomass gas fuel, biomass liquid fuel, and bio-based materials. This review systematically analyzes the challenges faced by China’s development of biomass energy and discusses the future development direction of biomass. The utilization of biomass resources should take a comprehensive and high-value path. China is actively looking for new energy utilization paths, and biomass energy has become a key measure to cope with carbon emission reduction, climate change, and ecological environment protection.

The ash generated by Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boilers is featured by its looseness and porosity, low content of glassy substances, and high contents of calcium (Ca) and sulfur (S), thus resulting in a low comprehensive utilization rate. Currently, the predominant treatment approach for CFB ash and slag is stacking, which may give rise to issues like environmental pollution. In this paper, CFB ash (with a CaO content of 7.64% and an SO3 content of 1.77%) was used as the main raw material. The high-temperature melting characteristics, viscosity–temperature characteristics, and initial crystallization temperature of samples with different acidity coefficients were investigated. The final drawing temperature range of the samples was determined, and mechanical property tests were conducted on the prepared inorganic fibers. The results show that the addition of dolomite powder has a significant reducing effect on the complete liquid phase temperature. The final drawing temperatures of the samples with different acidity coefficients range as follows: 1270–1318 °C; 1272–1351 °C; 1250–1372 °C; 1280–1380 °C; 1300–1382 °C; and 1310–1384 °C. The drawing temperature of this system is slightly lower than that of basalt fibers. Based on the test results of the mechanical properties of inorganic fibers, the Young’s modulus of the inorganic fibers prepared through the experiment lies between 55 GPa and 74 GPa, which basically meets the performance requirements of inorganic fibers. Consequently, the method of preparing inorganic fibers by using CFB ash and dolomite powder is entirely feasible.

In order to achieve the “dual-carbon” goal, China’s energy sector is rapidly evolving towards a green and low-carbon future, with the integration of large-scale new energy into the power grid. However, due to the fluctuating characteristics of new energy generation, the difficulty of grid peaking has gradually increased. Consequently, enhancing flexibility and achieving wide and rapid peak shaving have emerged as the primary development directions for thermal power units. Circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers have been widely developed due to their excellent coal adaptability, large load regulation range, and low-cost pollutant removal ability. However, the flexibility of load variations in most CFB units is not high, limited by the substantial inertia of the furnace side and fluctuating pollutant emissions. This review is conducted with respect to the boiler side to analyze inertia sources and effects on the system while processing rapid variable loads, including gas–solid flow inertia, fuel combustion inertia, and heat transfer inertia. It discusses the development of numerical simulation models for CFB boilers and points out corresponding applications and limitations in simulating dynamic characteristics during load changes. Through experimental bench tests and numerical simulation, it investigates the dynamic characteristics of pivotal parameters in the variable load process. Moreover, the pivotal elements influencing the variable load performance and viable regulatory techniques are revealed, thereby furnishing theoretical guidance for enhancing the unit flexibility and peak shifting rates of China’s CFB boilers.

The development of wind power has brought about increasing challenges in decommissioning, among which DWTBs (decommissioned wind turbine blades) are the most difficult component to deal with. To enable the cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly large-scale utilization of DWTBs, an experimental study on thermogravimetric and pyrolysis characteristics of DWTBs was carried out. A new process involving recycling glass fiber with pyrolysis gas re-combustion and flue gas recirculation as the pyrolysis medium was innovatively proposed, and the simulation calculation was carried out. Thermogravimetric experiments indicated that glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC) was the main heat-generating part in the heat utilization process of blades, and the blade material could basically complete pyrolysis at 600 °C. As the heating rate increased, the formation temperature, peak concentration, and proportion of combustible gas in the pyrolysis gas also increased. The highest peak concentration of CO gas was observed, with CO2 and C3H6 reaching their peaks at 700 °C. The solid product obtained from pyrolysis at 600 °C could be oxidized at 550 °C for 40 min to obtain clean glass fiber. And the pyrolysis temperature increased with the increase in the proportion of recirculation flue gas. When the proportion of recirculation flue gas was 66%, the pyrolysis temperature could reach 600 °C, meeting the necessary pyrolysis temperature for wind turbine blade materials. The above research provided fundamental data support for further exploration on high-value-added recycling of DWTBs.

With the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry, the number of power battery decommissioning is increasing year by year. The recycling of power batteries is of great significance for protecting the ecological environment, improving the efficiency of resource utilization, and ensuring the sustainable and healthy development of the new energy automobile industry. In this study, the chemical compositions of power batteries were introduced, the technical path and development status of the echelon utilization of decommissioned power batteries were discussed, and the specific steps and challenges of regenerative utilization of decommissioned power batteries were described in detail from two aspects of pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy. Combined with the relevant research results, the main methods of the direct regeneration of positive electrode materials were analyzed. Finally, the main development direction and related suggestions for the resource utilization of decommissioned power batteries were put forward.

This study utilized a combination of FLIC(1D3.2C) and FLUENT(2021R2) software to optimize the primary air distribution along the grate and the performance of a straw briquette combustion furnace of a 7 MW unit in China used to produce hot air for drying grain. Three air distribution modes, namely front-enhanced, uniform, and rear-enhanced modes, were analyzed to determine their effect on the flue gas components above the grate, the temperature field in the furnace, and the nitrogen oxide concentration at the furnace outlet. The results of the calculations showed that the NOx emissions for the front-enhanced, uniform, and rear-enhanced modes were 133.5 mg/Nm3, 104.4 mg/Nm3, and 76.6 mg/Nm3, respectively. It was found that the rear-enhanced mode can expand the biomass drying, devolatilization, and combustion zone, thus improving the furnace combustion performance and decreasing NOx emissions. These findings can provide useful guidance for optimizing biomass chain-grate-firing furnaces.

During the coal-fired circulating fluidized bed unit participation in the peak regulation process of the power grid, the thermal automatic control system assists the operator to adjust the mode focusing on pollutant control and ignoring the economy so that the unit’s operating performance maintains a huge potential for deep mining. The high-dimensional and coupling-related data characteristics of circulating fluidized bed boilers put forward more refined and demanding requirements for combustion optimization analysis and open-loop guidance operation. Therefore, this paper proposes a combustion optimization method that incorporates neighborhood rough set machine learning. This method first reduces the control parameters affecting multi-objective combustion optimization with the neighborhood rough set algorithm that fully considers the correlation of each variable combination and then establishes a multi-objective combustion optimization prediction model by combining the online calculation of boiler thermal efficiency. Finally, the NSGAII algorithm realizes the optimization of the control parameter setting value of the boiler combustion system. The results show that this method reduces the number of control commands involved in combustion optimization adjustment from 26 to 11. At the same time, based on the optimization results obtained by using traditional combustion optimization methods under high, medium, and medium-low load conditions, the boiler thermal efficiency increased by 0.07%, decreased by 0.02%, and increased by 0.55%, respectively, and the nitrogen oxide emission concentration decreased by 5.02 mg/Nm3, 7.77 mg/Nm3, and 7.03 mg/Nm3, respectively. The implementation of this method can help better account for the economy and pollutant discharge of the boiler combustion system during the variable working conditions, guide the operators to adjust the combustion more accurately, and effectively reduce the ineffective energy consumption in the adjustment process. The proposal and application of this method laid the foundation for the construction of smart power plants.

Ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler combustion technology has the advantages of environmental protection and good commercialization. As one of the key aspects in ultra-supercritical CFB combustion technology, the water wall system directly determines whether the CFB boiler can safely and effectively transform heat energy. This paper studies the thermal–hydraulic characteristics of the designed water wall system of a 700 MWe ultra-supercritical CFB boiler, the largest one that will be built next year. At four loads of the water wall system, hydrodynamic parameters are calculated based on the successfully verified mathematical models. The results show that the hydrodynamic characteristics of the system are good. The temperature distribution of the working fluid and metal of the water wall system is acceptable and safe at each load, which can support the technical development and improvement of the 700 MWe ultra-supercritical CFB boiler.

Thermal energy storage is an essential technology for improving the utilization rate of solar energy and the energy efficiency of industrial processes. Heat storage and release by the dehydration and rehydration of Ca(OH)2 are hot topics in thermochemical heat storage. Previous studies have described different methods for improving the thermodynamic, kinetic, and structural stability of Ca(OH)2 to improve energy storage density, energy storage rate, and cycle stability, respectively. Here, the mechanisms and effects of different techniques on the performance improvement of Ca(OH)2 and some common problems were reviewed. Specific problems were also clarified based on the characteristics of different technologies. Finally, suggestions for the future development of Ca(OH)2 heat storage materials were provided.

With regard to drying fresh grain prior to storage, the drying tower with a downward moving bed with hot air is often used, which always has high energy consumption during operation. To optimize the operation, according to the actual operating parameters of a corn drying tower with hot air, a heat balance model was established, and the heat transfer between the hot air and corn flow in a downward moving bed was analyzed. Since the downward moving time is short, the heat absorbed by corn significantly depends on the heat transfer coefficient, mainly the convective heat transfer, between the hot air and corn surface. To determine the convective heat transfer coefficient, a hot air drying experimental system for corn grains was established, and the effects of hot air temperature and wind speed on the central temperature and moisture content of corn grains were analyzed. Utilizing the heat balance model, the convective heat transfer coefficients between corn particles and hot air were calculated. The total convective heat transfer coefficients are in the range of 39.4–53.8 W/m2 · K. With an average value of 46.7 W/m2 · K, drying energy efficiencies in different drying zones in the drying tower were calculated, and the accuracy of the model was verified by the operation data. Due to the high inlet temperature of hot air, the maximum energy efficiency of the first zone is 60.15%, whereas when the temperature of hot air in the second drying tower is 140 °C, the energy efficiency is only 41.97%. Therefore, under the premise of ensuring the drying rate, the temperature of hot air of the second zone should be appropriately reduced to improve the whole drying energy efficiency.

Ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers are taking up an increasing proportion of the CFB boiler fleet in China, making the safety concern about the heating surfaces in this type of boilers under sudden electricity failure draw more and more attention from the industry. For the time being, however, few studies have made efforts to resolve this concern. Given this, the physical process in a 660 MW ultra-supercritical boiler during the electricity failure accident was precited with a comprehensive model composed of mass and energy conservation equations in this work. The tube temperature of the boiler components with the highest safety risk, i.e., the water wall and a superheater, was obtained to evaluate the safety of the heating surfaces. The results revealed that the tube temperature (about 516 °C and 544 °C) would be obviously lower than the maximum permissible temperature of the tube material (600 °C and 630 °C) even when electricity could be restored at the power plant, indicating that the heating surfaces in the 660 MW ultra-supercritical CFB boilers would generally be recognized to be safe under sudden electricity failure.

Real-world images usually contain multiple objects, as a result, generating an image from a multi-instance sketch is an attractive research topic. However, existing generative networks usually produce a similar texture on different instances for those methods focus on learning the distribution of the whole image. To address this problem, we propose a progressive instance texture reserved generative approach to generate more convincible images by decoupling the generation of the instances and the whole image. Specifically, we create an instance generator to synthesize the primitive color distribution and the detailed texture for each instance. Then, an image generator is designed to combine all of these instances to synthesize an image retaining texture and color. Besides, to generate more significant details, such as eyes, ears, and so on, we propose a novel technique called discriminative sketch augmentation, which can provide structural constraint by obtaining the sketch of the discriminative region. The extensive experiments demonstrate that our model not only generates convincing images but also achieves higher inception score and lower Fréchet Inception Distance on the MS-COCO dataset.

With the widespread application of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion technology, the popularity of CFB ash (CFBA) has increased dramatically and its production and large-scale utilization have become increasingly important. In the context of carbon neutrality peaking, using CFBA as a cement admixture as an effective method of resource utilization not only reduces the pressures caused by carbon emissions in the cement industry but also solves the environmental problems caused by CFBA depositing. However, the formation conditions of CFBA are worse than those of traditional pulverized coal boilers. CFB ash is the combustion product of coal at 850 °C–950 °C, and the characteristics of CFBA usually include a loose and porous structure with many amorphous substances. Furthermore, it has the disadvantages of large particle size, high water-demand ratio, and low activity index when it is directly used as a cement admixture. In this study, CFBA (including fly ash (CFBFA) and bottom ash (CFBBA)) produced by a CFB boiler without furnace desulfurization with limestone was used as a cement admixture material, and the effect of grinding on the fineness, water-demand ratio, and activity index of CFBA were studied. The experimental results showed that the grinding effect could significantly reduce the fineness and water-demand ratio of CFBA as a cement mixture and improve the activity index. With the increase in the grinding time, the water-demand ratio of CFBA first decreased and then increased. CFBBA ground for 10 min and CFBFA ground for 4 min can reduce the water-demand ratio of CFBA by up to 105% and increase the compressive strength of 28-day-old CFBA cement by 7.05%. The grinding process can ensure that CFBA meets the Chinese standards for a cement admixture and realize the resource utilization of CFBA.

In this paper, the combustion process of oil shale semicoke was investigated by modeling, where intraparticle mass transfer resistance was especially considered. The ash formation and attrition characteristics of oil shale semicoke were also investigated by a laboratory test procedure. The burnout time and residence time of different particle sizes were predicted, and the maximum particle size of which oil shale semicoke could be burned out in a 3 MW circulating fluidized bed boiler was obtained. RM (red mud), which comes from the Bayer process, has a huge annual output and is harmful to the environment. Because of the high iron content in RM, the process of iron recovery from RM can reduce the amount of RM well and create economic benefits, so it is a promising process. The paper focuses on the review on the research of the iron recovery method from RM, which includes the physical recovery method, chemical recovery method and emerging recovery method. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of these processes, it is concluded that the fluidized bed reduction is a promising process that can be rapidly applied to the industry, but it still needs more investigation to overcome the current technical difficulties in the near future.

Solid circulation rate (Gs) represents the mass flux of circulating particles in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) systems and is a significant parameter for the design and operation of CFB reactors. Many measuring technologies for Gs have been proposed, though few of them can be applied in industrial units. This paper presents a comprehensive study on measuring technologies, and the results indicate that though the accumulation method is most widely applied, it is constrained by the disturbance of normal particle circulation. Some publications have proposed mathematic models based on pressure drop or other parameters to establish Gs measurement models; these necessitate the accurate modeling of complicated gas-solid flows in industrial devices. Methods based on certain measurement devices to specify parameters like velocity require device endurance in the industrial operation environment and stable local gas-solid flow. The Gs measuring technologies are strongly influenced by local gas-solid flow states, and the packed bed flow in standpipes make the bottom of standpipes an ideal place to realize Gs measurement.

As a clean fuel combustion technology, the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) has been developed rapidly in recent years, but one of its disadvantages is high N2O emissions. With the implementation of increasingly strict pollution control standards, N2O decomposition and removal technologies have become the main focus of current research. This paper reviews the latest research on noble metals, metal oxides, the molecular sieve and other new catalysts and decomposition methods for N2O removal. The research methods and functions of catalysts are compared and the existing problems are summarized. The future directions of development in N2O decomposition and removal are considered. Noble metals and the molecular sieve show satisfactory activity at relatively low temperatures, but their catalytic efficiency is obviously hindered by O2, NO and H2O. In addition, high costs and insufficient thermal stability limit their widespread industrial application. The metal oxide catalytic technology, especially oxygen carrier-aided combustion (OCAC), is expected to be the ideal method for N2O removal in CFB boilers due to its stability and economical feasibility.

Wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) wastewater treatment is a key problem in coal-fired plants. Traditional chemical precipitation methods cannot reach zero-liquid discharge (ZLD). In this paper, a new technology using the low-rank heat from flue gas to concentrate the wastewater for ZLD is proposed. A scrubber was built to verify the concentrating process, and the characteristics of the concentrated water were analyzed. The concentrated water was neutralized by adding Ca(OH)2 to raise the pH value. The wastewater can be concentrated 10~25 times to reduce the flow rate. The characteristics of the concentrated wastewater were studied by dosing lime. Then, liquid and solids were separated by filter pressing, the liquid was mainly composed of CaCl2, which accounts for 73.6%. The sludge is composed of CaSO4 and Mg(OH)2, depending on the lime consumption of the dosing process. Finally, the filter liquor after the filter press was mixed with ash to reach zero liquid discharge, and the sludge could be burnt after mixing with the coal or disposed by third-part vendor. This technology is demonstrated in one 600 MW unit and shows a high system reliability. The clean water is recycled by the WFGD wastewater during the evaporation. Binding on the environmental policies and large market demand of the WFGD wastewater, this technology shows a great application prospect in the future.

A new potassium-based adsorbent for CO2 capture with Al aerogel used as support is proposed in this work. The adsorbents with different surface modifiers (tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and trimethyl chlorosilane (TMCS)) and different K2CO3 loadings (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) were prepared by sol-gel and iso-volume impregnation processes with ambient pressure drying. The CO2 adsorption performance of the adsorbents were tested by a fixed-bed reactor, and their adsorption mechanisms were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). Furthermore, the adsorption kinetics and the cycling performance were investigated. The results show that using TEOS to modify the wet gel can introduce SiO2 to increase the strength of the skeleton. On the basis of TEOS modification, TMCS can further modify –OH, thus effectively avoiding the destruction of aerogel structure during ambient drying and K2CO3 impregnation. In this work, the specific surface area and specific pore volume of Al aerogel modified by TEOS + TMCS are up to 635.32 cm2/g and 2.43 cm3/g, respectively. The aerogels without modification (Al-B), TEOS modification (Al/Si) and TEOS + TMCS modification (Al/Si-TMCS) showed the best CO2 adsorption performance at 20%, 30% and 30% K2CO3 loading, respectively. In particular, the CO2 adsorption capacity and K2CO3 utilization rate of Al/Si-TMCS-30K are as high as 2.36 mmol/g and 93.2% at 70 degrees Celsius (°C). Avrami’s fractional order kinetic model can well fit the CO2 adsorption process of potassium-based adsorbents. Al-B-20K has a higher apparent activation energy and a lower adsorption rate during the adsorption process. After 15 adsorption-regeneration cycles, Al/Si-TMCS-30K maintain a stable CO2 adsorption capacity and framework structure, while the microstructure of Al/Si-30K is destroyed, resulting in a decrease in its adsorption capacity by nearly 30%. This work provides key data for the application of Al aerogel in the field of potassium-based adsorbent for CO2 capture.

After the implementation of the ultra-low emissions regulation on the coal-fired power plants in China, the problem of the excessive ammonia-slipping from selective catalytic reduction (SCR) seems to be more severe. This paper analyzes the operating statistics of the coal-fired plants including 300 MW/600 MW/1000-MW units. Statistics data show that the phenomenon of the excessive ammonia-slipping is widespread. The average excessive rate is over 110%, while in the small units the value is even higher. A field test data of nine power plants showed that excessive ammonia-slipping at the outlet of SCR decreased following the flue-gas process. After most ammonia reduced by the dust collector and the wet flue-gas desulfurization (FGD), the ammonia emission at the stack was extremely low. At same time, a method based on probability distribution is proposed in this paper to describe the relationship between the NH3/NOX distribution deviation and the De–NOX efficiency/ammonia-slipping. This paper also did some original work to solve the ammonia-slipping problem. A real-time self-feedback ammonia injection technology using neural network algorithm to predict and moderate the ammonia distribution is proposed to decrease the NH3/NOX deviation and excessive ammonia-slipping. The technology is demonstrated in a 600-MW unit and works successfully. The excessive ammonia-slipping problem is well controlled after the implementation of the technology.

Four metal phosphites/phosphates crystal materials C8N4H34Al2P4O18 (1), C3N2H17GaP2O8 (2), H5In2P3O10 (3), and H9In2P3O13 (4) have been solvothermally synthesized by organic amines in the presence of mixed solvents. Structural analyses indicate that compound 1 and 2 show one-dimensional (1D) chain structures; compound 3 and 4 are three-dimensional (3D) inorganic open-framework indium phosphites. Organic amines show different mechanisms in the four compounds. The 2,2′-bipyridine organic amine acts as a template source and it breaks down small molecules, which enter into the structure of compound 1. For compound 2, 1,2-propanediamine has a role as protonated template and it forms a hydrogen bond with the inorganic skeleton structure. As for compound 3 and 4 without the organic template, the benzylamine and 2,2′-bipyridine mainly serve as structure-directing agent. Especially, compound 3 has an odd seven-ring channel, and compound 4 contains 3D intersecting six-ring, eight-ring, and 10-ring channels. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), CHN, inductive coupled plasma (ICP), Infrared (IR), and thermal gravimetric (TG) analyze the four compounds.

To reduce the auxiliary power consumption and improve the reliability of large-scale circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers, we developed energy-saving CFB combustion technology based on the fluidization state re-specification. A calculation model of coal comminution energy consumption was used to analyze the change in comminution energy consumption, and a 1D CFB combustion model was modified to predict the operation parameters under the fluidization state optimization conditions. With a CFB boiler of 480 t/h, the effect of fluidization state optimization on the economical operation was analyzed using the above two models. We found that combustion efficiency presents a nonmonotonic trend with the change in the bed pressure drop and feeding coal size. There are an optimal bed pressure drop and a corresponding feeding coal size distribution, under which the net coal consumption is the lowest. Low bed pressure drop operation achieved by reducing the coal particle size is not beneficial to SO2 and NOx emission control, and the pollutant control cost increases. The effect of fluidization state optimization on the gross cost of power supply can be calculated, and the optimal bed pressure drop can be obtained.

Limestone particle size has a crucial influence on SO2 capture efficiency, however there are few studies on the sulfation reactivity, which covers a broad range of particle sizes at low SO2 concentrations. In this paper, a large-capacity thermogravimetric analyzer (LC-TGA) was developed to obtain the sulfur removal reaction rate under a wide range of particle sizes (3 μm−600 μm) and SO2 concentrations (250 ppm−2000 ppm), and then compared with the results of a traditional fixed bed reactor and a commercial TGA. The experimental results showed that the LC-TGA can well eliminate the external mass transfer and obtain a better measurement performance. Both the final conversion and the reaction rate reduced with the decreasing of SO2 concentration, but ultrafine limestone particles still showed the good sulfation reactivity even at 250 ppm SO2. An empirical sulfation model was established based on the experimental results, which can well predict the sulfation process of different limestone particle sizes at low SO2 concentrations. The model parameters have a strong negative correlation against the particle size, and the fit of the reaction order of SO2 was found to be about 0.6. The model form is very simple to incorporate it into available fluidized bed combustion models to predict SO2 emission.

The effect of rotation of the stagnation surface on the nanoparticle deposition in the flame stabilizing on a rotating surface (FSRS) configuration was numerically assessed using CFD method. The deposition properties including particle trajectories, deposition time, temperature and surrounding O2 concentration between the flame and stagnation surface were examined. The results revealed that although flame position is insensitive to the surface rotation, the temperature and velocity fields are remarkably affected, and the deposition properties become asymmetric along the burner centerline when the surface rotates at a fast speed (rotational speed ω ≥ 300 rpm). Particles moving on the windward side have similar deposition properties when the surface rotates slowly, but the off-center particles on the leeward side have remarkable longer deposition time, lower deposition temperature, and lower surrounding O2 concentration, and they even never deposit on the surface when the surface rotates at a high speed. The rotation effect of the stagnation surface can be quantitatively described by an analogous Karlovitz number (Ka’), which is defined as the ratio of characteristic residence time of moving surface to the aerodynamics time induced by flame stretch. For high quality semiconducting metal oxide (SMO) films, it is suggested that Ka’ ≥ 1 should be kept.

The current study aims to explore the possible anti-lung carcinoma activity of ADC as well as the underlying mechanisms by which ADC exerts its actions in NSCLC. Findings showed that ADC potently inhibited the viability of SPCA-1, induced apoptosis triggered by ROS, and arrested the cell cycle at the G2/M phase via a P53 signaling pathway. Interestingly, phenomena such as autophagosomes accumulation, conversion of the LC3-I to LC3-II, etc., indicated that autophagy could be activated by ADC. The blockage of autophagy-augmented ADC induced inhibition of cell proliferation, while autophagy activation restored cell death, indicating that autophagy had a protective effect against cell death which was induced by ADC treatment. Meanwhile, ADC treatment suppressed both the Akt/mTOR and AMPK signaling pathways. The joint action of both ADC and the autophagy inhibitor significantly increased the death of SPCA-1. An in vitro phase I metabolic stability assay showed that ADC was highly metabolized in SD rat liver microsomes and moderately metabolized in human liver microsomes, which will assist in predicting the outcomes of clinical pharmacokinetics and toxicity studies. These findings imply that blocking the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway, which was independent of AMPK inhibition, could activate ADC-induced protective autophagy in non-small-cell lung cancer cells.
