Purpose: This research paper aims to explore the concerns and determinants of travelers' behavior toward ChatGPT in the hospitality and tourism context. It also examines the weight of risk factors versus that of motivation and innovation characteristics influencing travelers' approach behaviors toward ChatGPT. Design/methodology/approach: A cumulative prospect theory was used to determine travelers' responses to ChatGPT. This study, using a fuzzy-set qualitative approach, explored risk, motivation and innovation factors as determinants of approach behaviors for ChatGPT. Findings: Findings revealed that risk, motivation and innovation factors were the key triggers of approach behaviors for ChatGPT. An intricate combination effect of the perceived risk, motivation and innovation characteristics was found, and the necessary predictors were determined. Practical implications: The findings of this study will expand our current knowledge and offer practical insights for the development of ChatGPT in the hospitality and tourism sector. The study examines the dynamics of urban expansion and changes in land use in Addis Ababa from 1993 to 2023 using satellite data and GIS analysis, as well as the benefit transfer approach for valuing ecosystem services. In addition, an expert survey was conducted using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method to determine the factors driving urban expansion. Results reveal oscillations in urban expansion rates and intensities over the three-decade period. While the 2003–2013 decade witnessed rapid urban growth, subsequent years showed a slowdown. The overall period (1993–2023) has an intensity index greater than 1, indicating that urban areas expanded faster than the city's overall growth during the entire time frame. Land cover analysis revealed a significant decrease in green areas and croplands and a remarkable increase in built-up areas. In aggregate, the natural land cover was reduced by 128.6% whereas built-up increased by 224.7%. This shift signifies a transition from natural and agricultural land uses to urbanization and development. Moreover, the study evaluates changes in ecosystem service values (ESVs), indicating a consistent decline over time, particularly in forestlands and urban green areas. The significant alteration in land use that built up caused to ecosystems has resulted in an annual loss of 90.7 million USD from 1993 to 2023 in terms of ecosystem service value. The most significant impacts were observed in food production, climate regulation, and habitat ecosystem services. The encroachment of built-up areas on different land use categories leads to substantial losses in ecosystem service values. Socioeconomic factors, notably population growth and migration, emerge as primary drivers of urban expansion, emphasizing the interconnectedness of demographic changes and land use patterns. Overall, the findings underscore the complex interplay between urban expansion, land use dynamics, and ecosystem services in Addis Ababa, highlighting the importance of informed urban planning and policy interventions to mitigate adverse environmental impacts. Mobile payment is already the main financial transaction method for travellers, whereas cryptocurrency payment has emerged more recently. This study aimed to compare and reveal the intentions and research implications of the adoption of the two payment methods. The novelty of this study lies in the inclusion of the technological dimensions, perceived security, perceived risk, and perceived convenience that influence Korean and Chinese consumers' behavioural intentions in the technology acceptance model (TAM). The results of this empirical study will help expand the industry's perspective on and understanding of this innovation in technology, and facilitate the development of related policies in the tourism and hospitality industry. This research investigated perceived risks associated with central bank digital currency (CBDC) payment innovations and their effect on travelers' adoption behavior, considering personal and product characteristics. This quantitative study determined that perceived risks, including financial, performance, privacy, psychological, and time risks, have an adverse effect on attitudes toward CBDC payment, which, in turn, affects the intention to adopt. In addition, this study underlined the moderating roles of consumer innovativeness, previous experience, structural assurance, and media encouragement in the link between perceived risk and attitude. This study investigated the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) virtual tourism to overcome problems and limitations in the senior tourism market. We explored the attributes of VR and AR in the context of vitalizing senior tourism, and the effects of such attributes on older adults' experience, perceived advantage, enjoyment, and reuse intention. Using mixed methods (i.e. qualitative and quantitative approaches), we developed four attributes of VR and AR for senior tourism and analyzed the effects of these attributes on older adults' emotional and behavioural responses. Analysis revealed significant relationships between the variables presented. Urban air mobility (UAM) is ready to fly and is a disruptive technology in improving city tourism. This study explores the roles of innovation characteristics, motivated consumer innovativeness, and attitude in stimulating intention to use UAM, with consideration of cultural differences. For this, we adopted both symmetric and asymmetric approaches based on data gathered in the United States and China. This study examined the structural relationships between predictors and tested the moderating effect of problem awareness in the link between motivated consumer innovativeness and attitude in developing travelers' approach behaviors relating to UAM. This study found multiple solutions based on a complex interplay among antecedents, and identified a necessary condition to drive intention to use UAM. This study investigated the underlying psychological mechanisms associated with metaverse events. By adopting a mixed methods approach, Study 1 found three major themes: "immersive experience", "escapism", and "game changer". Study 2 highlighted the substantial influence of traditional and metaverse-specific perceived values on attitude, with the exception of the functional value relating to price. In addition, the moderating roles of playfulness (high vs. low) and psychological distance (high vs. low) were found to be significant in the relationship between attitude and behavior. Background & objectives: There is lack of adequate information on the association between severe malaria and some human genetic markers like ABO blood types. The study was undertaken to evaluate the association between severe malaria infection and ABO blood types among febrile patients attending Felegeselam Health Center, northwestern Ethiopia. Methods: A total of 398 febrile patients were examined for malaria and tested for ABO blood groups in December 2011. The blood samples were collected by finger pricking, stained with Giemsa and slides were examined microscopically. ABO blood group was determined by agglutination test using agglutinating A and B monoclonal anti-sera together with parasite load count. Chi-square and ANOVA tests were used to assess the difference between frequencies and means, respectively. Results: Out of 398 acute febrile patients, 201 (50.5%) were found to be infected with Plasmodium parasites. Of which 194 (48.74%) and 7 (1.76%) belong to Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax, respectively. The distribution of ABO blood groups was O (46%), A (27.1%), B (23.1%) and AB (3.8%). The percentage of severe malaria with respect to blood group A, B, AB and O was found to be 40, 34.1, 14.3 and 5.1%, respectively. The association of severe malaria with non 'O' blood types was statistically significant (χ2 = 31.246, p Interpretation & conclusion: The present findings indicate that individuals with blood groups A, B and AB are more susceptible for severe malaria infection than blood group O.
