Abstract

The terrorism rate in Pakistan becomes higher even after the advancement of information technology. Especially APS Attack and numerous other in different part of country. The root cause of such attacks as according to our research is as: terrorists utilizing the benefit of lack of a full proof security check system. Traditional explosive detection systems are large in size, expensive and require manual attention. These systems are not much useful due to its public visibility intruder or terrorists can easily bypass the system using another route. This term paper is mainly focusing on explosive material detection using IoT with WSN. Explosive Material Detection and security alert system (e-DASS) consists of several hundreds of nodes depending upon the geographical area we are going to cover. Each node should be able to communicate with the other node and update the information if necessary. Tracking of the target can be done in an easier and faster way because all the nodes are synchronized. (e-DASS) is a power efficient explosive detection system. Abstract

In this work, we have expounded the communication procedure of quantum systems by means of process algebra. The main objective of our research effort is to formally represent the communication between distributed quantum systems. In this new proposed communication model we have ameliorated the existing rules of Lalire's quantum process algebra QPAlg. We have brought some important modification in QPAlg by introducing the concept of formally specifying the Quantum teleportation protocol. We have further introduced the formal description of protocol by using programs that best explains its working and satisfies the specification. Examples have been provided to describe the working of the improved algebra that formally explain the sending and receiving of both classical as well as quantum data, keeping in mind the principal features of quantum mechanics., Comment: 4 figures, 16 pages

14. Early phase disease modification trials with selisistat & optical coherence tomography as a biomarker in Huntington's disease

Abstract

Huntington's disease (HD) is a monogenic neurodegenerative disorder with no known cure. Selisistat is a novel, highly potent Sirt1 inhibitor with supportive pre-clinical data. Facilitation of autophagy and amelioration of transcriptional dysregulation are proposed as mechanisms of action. A first in disease Phase 1B study showed safety and tolerability. The peripheral immune dysfunction in HD could be modulated by Sirtuins which have both pro and anti-inflammatory activities. However selisistat did not alter the cytokine profile in this study. Phase 2 data over a longer duration was also well tolerated however potential hepatotoxicity is a concern. Sub-analysis of clinical assessments did not reveal any significant effect. Confirmation of proposed mechanisms of action is lacking and no Phase III studies are planned. Significant clinical heterogeneity exists in HD phenotypes which must reflect differing neuronal susceptibilities. A novel total motor score based sub-division of HD phenotypes failed to demonstrate any changes in a whole brain voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis. Clinical assessment alone lacks sensitivity over shorter time-spans in HD, and thus reliable, tolerable and sensitive biomarkers are required. Optical coherence tomography is a potential novel biomarker. The hypothesis that neuroretinal structures may be surrogate marker of intracranial disease was tested in a pilot biomarker study, the first of its kind in HD. Evidence of a statistically significant (p < 0.01) reduction in macular volume in HD subjects versus age and sex-matched controls is seen. No change in RFNL measures was seen. A correlation with increasing disease severity on ordinal regression was also noted. No correlation of macular volume and RNFL thickness with change in whole brain and caudate volumes. Furthermore, OCT was well tolerated by the majority of participants. Retinal abnormalities in HD have been confirmed in three subsequent independent OCT studies.

Abstract This prospective study was conducted in Basrah Teaching Hospital to evaluate the hearing of β thalassemia major patients, and to find the association between desferoxamine (DFO) therapy and hearing loss (HL). Pure tone eudiometry (PTA) and tympanometry was done to determine hearing thresholds of (23) β thalassemia major patients and (50) non thalassemic subjects. All subjects were more than 4 year old to allow PTA to be done. The criteria of evaluation included a full otological history, drug history, otological examination, audiological evaluation using PTA and tympanometry. This study found that (6) out of (23) thalassemic patients and (6) out of (50) non thalassemic patients have hearing loss. From those thalassemic patients with HL, (5) patients have conductive hearing loss (CHL) and one have sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), while the non thalassemic patients with HL all have CHL, also we found that (3) out of (5) thalassemic patients not on desferoxamine therapy have HL. In conclusion, β thalassaemia major has no significant statistical association with hearing problems, and there is no significant statistical association between desferoxamine therapy and hearing loss.
