We are witnessing an explosion in the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) as smart objects become more important in our daily lives to make it easier to achieve our goals. It is obvious that the application areas of IoT are extremely diverse. Indeed, several sectors will be deeply impacted by IoT applications. Of which, security in the Internet of Things (IoT) has become a major concern due to increasing vulnerabilities and threats. Connected devices, often with limited security capabilities, have become attractive targets for attackers. Vulnerabilities in IoT devices, whether resulting from unmodified default configurations, lack of regular updates, or insecure communication protocols, expose these systems to potential risks. Cryptography, as a discipline dedicated to securing communications, uses advanced mathematical techniques to guarantee the confidentiality of electronic exchanges by making the data incomprehensible to unauthorized persons.In this paper, we show an in-depth exploration of the generation of new S-boxes using the genetic algorithm. These new S-boxes are dynamically generated with the new genetic algorithm-based approach. This new method offers adaptive optimization, iteratively exploring the solution space to identify robust S-boxes, thereby strengthening the security of the encryption system. The study continues with the evaluation of these S-boxes through dedicated metrics, allowing an in-depth analysis of their performance in terms of resistance to cryptographic attacks and preservation of substitution properties. Finally, this evaluation extends to the incorporation of these newly generated S-boxes into the AES encryption algorithm, where different dimensions, such as cryptanalysis resistance, scene visibility, and other performance levels, will be examined.

Abstract Thymic atypical carcinoids are extremely rare tumors and have a poor prognosis owing to their aggressive clinical course. The efficacy of treatments other than complete surgical resection is unclear. We herein report a postoperative recurrent case of thymic atypical carcinoid treated with everolimus and octreotide long‐acting repeatable (LAR). A 75‐year‐old woman was admitted to our department because a nodule was detected in the right lobe of thymus by annual computed tomography. The patient underwent thymothymectomy, and a diagnosis of thymic atypical carcinoid was made. One year and seven months after surgery, she developed multiple metastases in the lung, hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes, liver, and bone. Everolimus 10 mg/day was administered; however, the dose had to be reduced to 5 mg/day due to grade 3 hyperglycemia and grade 3 interstitial lung disease. Metastatic lesions other than liver metastasis markedly responded to everolimus, although the liver metastases gradually progressed. Three years and six months after surgery, she was administered octreotide LAR 30 mg per month in combination with everolimus. She has maintained stable disease for 8 months after the application of this combination therapy.

Dual photo- and metal-catalysis is generally not well-understood when the metal catalyst is a gold complex. Here the authors show that a variation of a known metallaphotoredox annulation is possible without an added photocatalyst, proceeding putatively through a gold–intermediate photosensitization by the aggregate of a potassium amide reactant, and yielding indole derivatives.

Abstract Pulmonary hemangiomas are benign, relatively rare tumours. Because computed tomography (CT) findings show a variety of images, it is often difficult to distinguish hemangiomas from lung cancer and other benign tumours. We report a 63‐year‐old man who was diagnosed with a pulmonary capillary hemangioma (PCH). A right lung basal segmentectomy was performed for diagnosis and treatment. On chest CT, the lesion was shown to be a solid nodule with contrast‐enhanced margins. This finding was thought to reflect the dense vascular hyperplasia of the central part of the tumour based on the pathologic findings. Although few studies involving PCH have referred to contrast‐enhanced CT, the findings of contrast‐enhanced CT might be a valuable indicator for diagnosing PCH.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to an urgent need for government intervention to prevent its spread. Scientific evidence has confirmed the effectiveness of mask-wearing in reducing virus spread. However, enforcing mask mandates in public spaces presents notable monitoring hurdles, particularly as facial recognition technology is impeded by face coverings. With many organizations relying on facial recognition for employee authentication, security and authentication become critical, especially for IoT systems. This article uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to accurately identify mask- wearing individuals and introduces a secure user authentication mechanism between the node and the access point. This authentication mechanism consists of three phases. (i) Identification Phase at the Access Point Level: A novel hybrid biometric pattern, merging password and image features, is employed to strengthen user authentication security through a fusion approach. (ii) Secure Communication: Utilizing blockchain technology and AES cryptography ensures the secure transmission of these patterns between the node and the access point. (iii) Matching Phase at the Node Level: A newly proposed method verifies authenticity by comparing the combined image and password features with database records during the development phase. The experimental results demonstrate its outstanding performance, achieving 99% accuracy, 99% recall, 100% precision, and 98.9% F1 score. These results suggest that the proposed approach holds promise as an effective and secure solution for identifying individuals wearing masks while ensuring reliable authentication in various environments. Resumo Objetivo: Traçar um perfil epidemiológico de pacientes com emergências oftalmológicas, e a prevalência de conjuntivites em duas estações do ano. Métodos: Estudo retrospectivo, transversal, através de revisão de prontuários de pacientes do pronto-atendimento do Hospital de Olhos do Paraná, referente ao período de uma semana do primeiro mês do verão e do inverno. As idades, queixas principais e diagnósticos foram organizados em grupos. Resultados: Foram revisados 2086 prontuários. O sexo masculino abrangeu 51,9%. A média da idade foi de 38±21 anos. O grupo de conjuntivites se destacou, com 46,4% do total de diagnósticos. Conjuntivites infecciosas (virais e bacterianas) somam 57,1%, 46,7%, 57,6%, 59,3% e 54,7% do total de conjuntivites nos grupos etários de 0-9 anos, 10-19 anos, 20-39 anos, 40-59 anos e ≥60 anos, respectivamente. No verão, dentre as conjuntivites, as alérgicas foram as mais prevalentes (34,7%), seguido por virais (29,6%), bacterianas (27,2%) e não especificadas (8,5%). Já no inverno, tiveram maior prevalência as virais (35%), seguido pelas alérgicas (34,7%), bacterianas (21,7%) e não especificadas (8,6%). A conjuntivite foi responsável por 78,5% dos diagnósticos na 1a década de vida contra 26,4% a partir da 7a década. Os outros diagnósticos mais prevalentes foram hordéolo/calázio (9,59%), ceratite ou úlcera bacteriana (6,52%) e hiposfagma (5,51%). Conclusão: O grupo de conjuntivites, em especial as conjuntivites infecciosas, foram as doenças mais frequentes dentre todos os diagnósticos. O inverno trouxe maior prevalência de conjuntivites gerais. Em ambas as estações houveram mais casos de conjuntivites virais que bacterianas, mas as virais foram mais expressivas no inverno. A prevalência de conjuntivites alérgicas foi a mesma nas duas estações. A faixa etária mais acometida por conjuntivites gerais foi a de 0 a 9 anos de idade.

Photosensitization of organogold intermediates is an emerging field in catalysis. In this context, an access to 2,3-disubstituted indoles from o-alkynyl aniline and iodoalkyne derivatives via a gold-catalyzed sequence under visible-light irradiation and in the absence of an exogenous photocatalyst was uncovered. A wide scope of the process is observed. Of note, 2-iodo-ynamides can be used as electrophiles in this cross-coupling reaction. The resulting N-alkynyl indoles lend themselves to post-functionalization affording valuable scaffolds, notably benzo[a]carbazoles. Mechanistic studies converge on the fact that a potassium sulfonyl amide generates emissive aggregates in the reaction medium. Static quenching of these aggregates by a vinylgold(I) intermediate yields to an excited state of the latter, which can react with an electrophile via oxidative addition and reductive elimination to forge the key C-C bond. This reactant-induced photoactivation of an organogold intermediate opens rich perspectives in the field of cross-coupling reactions.
