4. A Coding Theorem for Rate-Limited Quantum-Classical Optimal Transport

Abstract

We establish a coding theorem for rate-limited quantum-classical optimal transport systems with limited classical common randomness. This theorem characterizes the rate region of measurement protocols on a product source state for faithful construction of a given destination state while maintaining the source-destination distortion below a prescribed threshold with respect to a general distortion observable. It also provides a solution to the problem of rate-limited optimal transport, which aims to find the optimal cost of transforming a source quantum state to a destination state via an entanglement-breaking channel with a limited communication rate. The coding theorem is further extended to cover Bosonic continuous-variable quantum systems. Abstract

A comprehensive analysis of linear power control polices, which include the well-known greedy policy and fixed fraction policy as special cases, is provided. The notions of maximin optimal linear policy for given battery capacity $c$ and mean-to-capacity ratio $p$ as well as its $c$-universal versions are introduced. It is shown, among others, that the fixed fraction policy is $c$-universal additive-gap optimal but not $c$-universal multiplicative-factor optimal. Tight semi-universal bounds on the battery-capacity-threshold for the optimality of the greedy policy are established for certain families of energy arrival distributions., Comment: 30 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

The strong interaction is not well understood at low energies or for interactions with low momentum transfer. Chiral perturbation theory gives testable predictions for the nucleonic generalized polarizabilities, which are fundamental quantities describing the nucleon’s response to an external field. We report a measurement of the proton’s generalized spin polarizabilities extracted with a polarized electron beam and a polarized solid ammonia target in the region where chiral perturbation theory is expected to be valid. The investigated structure function g2 characterizes the internal spin structure of the proton. From its moments, we extract the longitudinal–transverse spin polarizability δLT and twist-3 matrix element and polarizability d2¯. Our results provide discriminating power between existing chiral perturbation theory calculations and will help provide a better understanding of this strong quantum chromodynamics regime.

Abstract

The strong interaction is not well understood at low energy, or for interactions with low momentum transfer $Q^2$, but one of the clearest insights we have comes from Chiral Perturbation Theory ($\chi$PT). This effective treatment gives testable predictions for the nucleonic generalized polarizabilities -- fundamental quantities describing the nucleon's response to an external field. We have measured the proton's generalized spin polarizabilities in the region where $\chi$PT is expected to be valid. Our results include the first ever data for the transverse-longitudinal spin polarizability $\delta_{LT}$, and also extend the coverage of the polarizability $\bar{d_2}$ to very low $Q^2$ for the first time. These results were extracted from moments of the structure function $g_2$, a quantity which characterizes the internal spin structure of the proton. Our experiment ran at Jefferson Lab using a polarized electron beam and a polarized solid ammonia (NH$_3$) target. The $\delta_{LT}$ polarizability has remained a challenging quantity for $\chi$PT to reproduce, despite its reduced sensitivity to higher resonance contributions; recent competing calculations still disagree with each other and also diverge from the measured neutron data at very low $Q^2$. Our proton results provide discriminating power between existing calculations, and will help provide a better understanding of this strong QCD regime.

50. The reliability of POCUS in the diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia in critically ill pediatric patients: a cross-sectional study

Abstract

Abstract Background Community-acquired pneumonia represents a noteworthy concern in terms of morbidity and mortality, particularly in countries with lower and middle-income levels. Accurate and timely diagnosis of pneumonia is crucial for optimal management. Chest CT is considered the gold standard imaging for diagnosis of pneumonia, but it is not always readily available and exposes children to radiation hazards, so it becomes important to find easily available and less hazardous imaging tools such as lung ultrasound to diagnose pneumonia. A comparative investigation was carried out to assess the diagnostic capability of lung ultrasound in critically ill pediatric patients presenting with respiratory symptoms. Forty-two patients with community-acquired pneumonia from the pediatric intensive care unit were included. Results Lung ultrasound demonstrated high sensitivity (88.1%) and specificity in diagnosing pneumonia, outperforming chest X-ray (50%) and providing comparable results to chest CT (95.2%). In addition, 45.2% of patients required mechanical ventilation, and 69.1% were diagnosed with viral pneumonia. Conclusion The employment of lung ultrasound is deemed secure, accessible, transferable, and efficacious in the expeditious detection of community-acquired pneumonia and the subsequent monitoring of patients. Its high sensitivity and specificity make it a valuable imaging modality in pediatric pneumonia diagnosis, helping clinicians make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
