In this paper we investigate various properties of generalised pairs in families, especially boundedness of several kinds. We show that many statements for usual pairs do not hold for generalised pairs. In particular, we construct an unexpected counter-example to boundedness of generalised lc models with fixed appropriate invariants. We also show that the DCC of Iitaka volumes and existence of nef reduction maps fail in families of generalised pairs. In a positive direction we show boundedness of bases of log Calabi-Yau fibrations with their induced generalised pair structure under natural assumptions. Roughly speaking we prove this boundedness for fibrations whose general fibres belong to a bounded family and whose Iitaka volume is fixed., Comment: 41 pages

We show that elliptic Calabi--Yau threefolds form a bounded family. We also show that the same result holds for minimal terminal threefolds of Kodaira dimension 2, upon fixing the rate of growth of pluricanonical forms and the degree of a multisection of the Iitaka fibration. We prove the existence of flips for $\mathbb Q$-factorial NQC generalized lc pairs, and the cone and contraction theorems for NQC generalized lc pairs. This answers a question of C. Birkar which was conjectured by J. Han and Z. Li. As an immediate application, we show that we can run the minimal model program for $\mathbb Q$-factorial NQC generalized lc pairs. In particular, we complete the minimal model program for $\mathbb Q$-factorial NQC generalized lc pairs in dimension $\leq 3$ and pseudo-effective $\mathbb Q$-factorial NQC generalized lc pairs in dimension $4$., Comment: 38 pages, v3. In this paper we prove a strengthening of the generic vanishing result in characteristic $p>0$ given in [HP16]. As a consequence of this result, we show that irreducible $\Theta$ divisors are strongly F-regular and we prove a related result for pluri-theta divisors., Comment: Comments are more than welcome

In this paper we prove a result on the effective generation of pluri-canonical linear systems on foliated surfaces of general type. Fix a function $P: \mathbb Z_{\geq 0}\to \mathbb Z $, then there exists an integer $N_1>0$ such that if $(X,\mathcal F)$ is a canonical or nef model of a foliation of general type with Hilbert polynomial $\chi (X, mK_{\mathcal F})=P(m)$ for all $m\in \mathbb Z_{\geq 0}$, then $|mK_{\mathcal F}|$ defines a birational map for all $m\geq N_1$. We also prove a Grauert-Riemannschneider type vanishing theorem for foliated surfaces with canonical singularities.

We prove that termination of lower dimensional flips for generalized klt pairs implies termination of flips for log canonical generalized pairs with a weak Zariski decomposition. Moreover, we prove that the existence of weak Zariski decompositions for pseudo-effective generalized klt pairs implies the existence of minimal models for such pairs.

Let $(X,\Delta)$ be a log pair over $S$, such that $-(K_X+\Delta)$ is nef over $S$. It is conjectured that the intersection of the non-klt (non Kawamata log terminal) locus of $(X,\Delta)$ with any fiber $X_s$ has at most two connected components. Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. We give a birational characterization of ordinary abelian varieties over $k$: a smooth projective variety $X$ is birational to an ordinary abelian variety if and only if $\kappa_S(X)=0$ and $b_1(X)=2 \dim X$. We also give a similar characterization of abelian varieties as well: a smooth projective variety $X$ is birational to an abelian variety if and only if $\kappa(X)=0$, and the Albanese morphism $a: X \to A$ is generically finite. The purpose of this note is to give a new proof of Alexeev's boundedness result for stable surfaces which is independent of the base field and to highlight some important consequences of this result.

We prove a boundedness result for klt pairs $(X,B)$ such that $K_X+B\equiv 0$ and $B$ is big. As a consequence we obtain a positive answer to the Effective Iitaka Fibration Conjecture for klt pairs with big boundary.

We prove a generic vanishing type statement in positive characteristic and apply it to prove positive characteristic versions of Kawamata's theorems: a characterization of smooth varieties birational to ordinary abelian varieties and the surjectivity of the Albanese map when the Frobenius stable Kodaira dimension is zero.

We show that if $(X,\Theta)$ is a PPAV over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$ and $D\in |m\Theta|$, then $(X,\frac 1 m D)$ is a limit of strongly $F$-regular pairs and in particular ${\rm mult}_x(D)\leq m\cdot \dim X$ for any $x\in X$.

We show that if $(X,B)$ is a log canonical pair with $\dim X\geq d+2$, whose non-klt centers have dimension $\geq d$, then $X$ is has depth $\ge d+2$ at every closed point.

Let $f:X\to U$ be a projective morphism of normal varieties and $(X,\Delta)$ a dlt pair. We prove that if there is an open set $U^0\subset U$, such that $(X,\Delta)\times_U U^0$ has a good minimal model over $U^0$ and the images of all the non-klt centers intersect $U^0$, then $(X,\Delta)$ has a good minimal model over $U$. As consequences we show the existence of log canonical compactifications for open log canonical pairs, and the fact that the moduli functor of stable schemes satisfies the valuative criterion for properness.

This paper is devoted to the study of various aspects of deformations of log pairs, especially in connection to questions related to the invariance of singularities and log plurigenera. In particular, using recent results from the minimal model program, we obtain an extension theorem for adjoint divisors in the spirit of Siu and Kawamata and more recent works of Hacon and McKernan. Our main motivation however comes from the study of deformations of Fano varieties. Our first application regards the behavior of Mori chamber decompositions in families of Fano varieties: we prove that, in the case of mild singularities, such decomposition is rigid under deformation when the dimension is small. We then turn to analyze deformation properties of toric Fano varieties, and prove that every simplicial toric Fano variety with at most terminal singularities is rigid under deformations (and in particular is not smoothable, if singular)., Comment: 26 pages; v3: in view of counter-examples found by Burt Totaro, Conjecture 1.2 appearing in version 2 has now been removed. It has been conjectured that varieties of general type do not admit nowhere vanishing holomorphic one-forms. We confirm this conjecture for smooth minimal varieties and for varieties whose Albanese variety is simple.

We classify minimal complex surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=3$. More precisely, we show that such a surface is either the symmetric product of a curve of genus 3 or a free $\Z_2-$quotient of the product of a curve of genus 2 and a curve of genus 3. Our main tools are the generic vanishing theorems of Green and Lazarsfeld and Fourier--Mukai transforms. The same result has been obtained independently at the same time by G. We study algebraic fiber spaces $f:X \longrightarrow Y$ where $Y$ is of maximal Albanese dimension. In particular we give an effective version a theorem of Kawamata: If $P_m(X)=1$ for some $m \ge 2$, then the Albanese map of $X$ is surjective. Combining this with \cite{CH} it follows that $X$ is birational to an abelian variety if and only if $P_2(X)=1$ and $q(X)= \text{\rm dim} (X)$.

Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective algebraic variety of maximal Albanese dimension. We give a characterization of $\kappa (X)$ in terms of the set $V^0(X,\omega_{X})$ $:=\{P\in {\text{\rm Pic}}^0(X)|h^0(X, \omega_X \otimes P) \ne 0\}$. An immediate consequence of this is that the Kodaira dimension $\kappa (X)$ is invariant under smooth deformations. We then study the pluricanonical maps $\phi_m:X -> \Bbb{P} (H^0(X,mK_X))$. We prove that if $X$ is of general type, $\phi_m$ is generically finite for $m\geq 5$ and birational for $m\geq 5 \text{\rm dim} (X) +1$. More generally, we show that for $m\geq 6$ the image of $\phi_m$ is of dimension equal to $\kappa (X)$ and for $m\geq 6\kappa (X)+2$, $\phi_m$ is the stable canonical map., Comment: 13 pages
