The materials of the 20th Kuz'kino habitation site, now destroyed by the waters of the Kuybyshev reservoir are published in the article. The resource was surveyed in 1965, surface finds being represented by pottery and stone tools. The pottery assemblage and stone tools had been left mainly by the Kama Neolithic culture population. This period of habitation is the earliest and can be dated to the first half of the 4th millennium BC. Besides, there are artifacts associated with the cultures of the Eneolithic and Bronze period (Volosovo, Lugovskoye, Maklasheevka) and the Early Iron Age (Textile Fabric-Marked Ware and Ananyino cultures).

Summary of phase II archaeological investigations of 12 sites on Arnold Air Force Base in Coffee County, Tennessee. The Phase II investigations served to both confirm previously identified cultural components and identify previously unrecorded occupations. The investigations were completed to aid Arnold Air Force Base in meeting the requirements of Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPH) as well as to satisfy, in part, goals and objectives outlined in Arnold’s Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP). Four of the sites (40CF287a, 40CF289, 40CF319, and 40CF336) were recommended as eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) under Criterion D for their potential to yield important information that contributes to our understanding of human history or prehistory.

International audience; For a long time, most Bell Beaker remains were discovered in funerary contexts, leading to very specific interpretations of this phenomenon, whether in the context of the first historical-cultural hypotheses or later in the New Archeology. Although Bell Beaker habitations remained rare and relatively unknown until the 1980s, the development of excavations and preventive excavations in particular, made it possible to recognize Bell Beaker remains in a domestic context in many regions. The proportion between Bell Beaker domestic and funerary sites has even reversed in some of these. The aim here is to compile a state of knowledge on the diversity of the Bell Beaker settlements in France, in its European contextand throughout its duration from 600 to 700 radiocarbon years. More than a final synthesis on the question, this summary provides a few perspectives on the existence of some great regional traditions in the settlement domain and a first look at the evolution of the habitat from theend of the Neolithic to the beginning of the Bronze Age by questioning the role the Bell Beaker culture in this phenomenon. At the same time, it is necessary to reaffirm the interest of the study of the Bell Beaker dwelling in order to apprehend the Bell Beaker phenomenon and the question of its very nature.; Pendant longtemps, les vestiges campaniformes ont été très majoritairement mis au jour dans des contextes funéraires conduisant à des interprétations très particulières que ce soit dans le cadre des premières hypothèses historico-culturelles ou plus tard dans celui de la New Archaeology.

This cultural resources mitigation plan was developed at the request of El Paso Corporation as part of their Pipeline Integrity Program, specifically relating to proposed improvements to the EPNG 1007 Line in Pima County, Arizona. Out of 18 proposed construction sites, five of the proposed construction sites are located within the boundaries of six archaeological sites. An additional two construction sites are located in the vicinity of known archaeological sites. El Paso is required to take into account the effects of their undertaking on any proposed action requiring a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) blanket permit. Although most of the proposed construction will be conducted under El Paso's operational permit, El Paso has requested consultation for all proposed construction sites. This document contains an archaeological testing and data recovery plan for a proposed pipeline replacement project within the St. Mary's Hospital Site (AZ AA:16:26[ASM]). An archaeological monitoring and discovery plan is presented for proposed construction within the other archaeological sites: AZ AA:12:300(ASM); AZ AA:12:821(ASM); AZ AA:16:6(ASM) (the Tumamoc Hill Site); AZ AA:16:51(ASM) (the Desert Laboratory National Historic Landmark); and AZ BB:13:6(ASM) (the St. Agustin Mission/Clearwater Site); and for proposed construction in the vicinity of AZ AA:12:865(ASM) and AZ BB:13:327(ASM). Additionally, a feature-specific data recovery plan has been included as part of the monitoring and discovery plan in order to streamline the process in the event of a discovery during construction.

Dėl to jis gali būti priskirtas epipaleolito laikotarpiui. The article analyzes the 10th Epipaleolithic campsite of Glūkas and the Neolithic settlements by the Varėnė river. The 10th settlement of Glūkas, existing in the Varėna district, on the right bank of the Varėnė river is a typical monument of the Stone Age in the Southern Lithuania, i. e. an open sandy settlement in the woods. The two prominent aggregations of flint articles in the central and Southern part of the area in question are shown by the plan of spread of flint articles of all the layers. The most plentiful and informative material of the 10th settlement of Glūkas, i. e. the flint findings, include: arrowheads, spearheads, cutters, knives, scrapers, gimlets, axes, chisels, gravers, boasters, etc.. Flint articles of non-identified purpose have also been found. In the excavated areas and control holes ceramic chips, including ones with mineral and vegetal additives have been found. Late thrown ceramics was found in the upper layer. Pot chips with vegetative and mineral additives represent the earliest ceramics of the Neman culture. Out of the aforementioned four archeological periods of the settlement the radiocarbon dating confirmed only two: the end of the Neolith and the Iron Age. The article dedicates significant attention to the data of vertical and horizontal planography. In the homogeneous aggregation of the flint articles of the settlement, found in the central part of the studied area elements of different cultures are combined and intertwined. Due to that it can be attributed to the time period of the Epipaleolith.

The foremost goal of this project was recording all archaeological and paleontological finds in the riparian corridor the Santa Cruz River, on the San Rafael de la Zanja Land Grant. Results of this full-coverage survey are intended to be useful for determining land management in the corridor. Observations about site boundaries, disturbance and potential for in-place buried deposits contribute to meeting these objectives. At the same time, these results are intended to provide information from a valley for which little information about archaeological or paleontological remains is available. Specific archaeological goals include defining site density in the center of the valley, assessing ages and affiliations of sites, and inferring settlement patterns in the San Rafael Valley. These goals are equally applicable to Precontact, Mexican and American settlement in this valley. Results are intended to provide information for land management decisions of course, but also to bring the valley’s history to light and contribute to a broader regional understanding of the past. Danson's (1946) survey of the San Rafael Valley left little doubt that there are many sites on both sides of the international border. In fact, there proved to be considerably more sites than his work, or Ruble’s (1999) suggested would be the case. The redundancy provided by this outcome is valuable for more reasons than providing overall accuracy. With over 100 sites to refer, to site distribution and density provide a clearer picture of settlement across time. Inferred relationships between site activities, resource selection, and site location are commensurately more reliable as site sample size increases. An integral objective of this project was providing field training to University of Arizona anthropology undergraduate students. These students were under the full-time supervision of three experienced archaeologists, and on several occasions, also in the company of volunteers having considerable field experience. The crew also included two experienced archaeologists from INAH (Instituto Nacional de Anthropolgia e Historia) in Hermosillo. In conjunction with this survey, we surveyed several km² on the Sonoran side of the San Rafael Valley under the auspices and funding of INAH Sonora. Results of work in Sonora are not formally incorporated into this report, but their influence, and the demonstrated value of bi-national research are undeniable.

On December 15, 2000, Entranco was authorized by Salt River Project (SRP) to conduct a Class I Inventory of an approximately 9.61-mile-long, variable width corridor from the Thunderstone Receiving Station to the Verde Substation in Maricopa County, Arizona. The project area includes Bureau of Indian Affairs right-of-way across the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and land under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Reclamation, operated and managed by the Central Arizona Project and SRP. This research is undertaken as part of the proposed SRP Thunderstone to Verde 69 kV Rebuild project. The purpose of the Class I Inventory is to identify all previously recorded cultural resources and cultural resource projects that have occurred within the project area and its immediate vicinity. Cultural resources within these areas could be subject to direct or indirect adverse effects from activities associated with the SRP Thunderstone to Verde 69 kV Rebuild project. For purposes of this study, cultural resources are prehistoric or historic archaeological sites or objects, and potentially significant historic buildings or structures. An evaluation of Traditional Cultural Properties was not included in this inventory. The SRP scope of work includes the installation of a new conductor for the existing 69 kV line, removing and replacing overhead static wires, and the replacement of any poles necessary to accommodate the installation of a new conductor and overhead ground wires. All project work will be conducted within the existing SRP right-of-way, which varies in width from 30 feet (ft.) to 70 ft. The content and level of detail appropriate for this Class I Inventory report was discussed with Mr. Richard Anduze of SRP prior to report preparation. Because the primary objective is to facilitate planning for a 69 kV upgrade of an existing line, it was agreed that the best approach would be to inventory existing data sources and report the locations of previously identified sites and surveys in relation to the project corridor. This method provides the essential information concisely and expeditiously, but does not include a broad overview of the environmental or cultural setting, or any synthesis of the cultural resource data into research-oriented conclusions. Thus, the report is considered only a partial Class I inventory, but it includes all information necessary for the immediate planning-related purposes. Because the project extends across federal land, this report was written to conform to federal guidelines. This is a revised report.

A cultural resources survey of three separate areas within the Catalina State Park in Pima County, Arizona for proposed improvements and expansion of the park’s main road, and the group and overnight camping areas. This cultural resources survey of portions of Catalina State Park identified one new and one previously recorded archaeological site and twelve isolated occurrences (lOs). Previously recorded site AZ BB:9:218 (ASM) is within the Sutherland Wash Archaeological District. This site should be protected and avoided by all ground disturbing activities. Newly recorded site AZ BB:9:332 (ASM) falls just west of the Sutherland Wash Archaeological District, it is potentially eligible for inclusion on the NRHP, and should be avoided by all ground disturbing activities. If avoidance is not possible, archaeological testing is recommended for both sites. The seven isolated occurrences of historic cultural material and the five prehistoric IOs are not considered eligible for inclusion on the NRHP as all scientifically valuable information regarding them has been recorded. Includes related correspondence.

From July 7 to August 11, 1994, archaeologists from the Transportation Center at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville conducted a Phase I archaeological reconnaissance survey for cultural resources of selected areas within the former Camp Forrest training base in Coffee and Franklin counties, Tennessee. The locations examined were limited primarily to long narrow corridors along roads. Work included a pedestrian walk-over of all areas and shovel testing at 30m and 15m intervals. A total of 1,160 shovel tests were excavated, 36 of which contained either Native American or Historic Period cultural remains. Excavated matrix from these tests was screened using 0.25-inch hardware cloth. Five sites (40CF239, 40CF240, 40CF241, 40FR199, and 40FR200) were identified during the survey. The proposed hazardous waste remediation activities in the Camp Forrest area by HAZWRAP will not affect these sites. No further archaeological investigations at these sites are recommended at this time. If future remediation or construction activities are proposed at these sites, then archaeological testing would be necessary to determine if the sites are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted survey of 200 acres and limited testing of cultural resources on Fort McDowell Mohave-Apache Indian Community (FMIC) land at the request of Mr. Jon Czaplicki of the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation). The work was performed to define the boundaries of archaeological sites to be avoided by agricultural development. Eight sites were slated for preservation; however, only seven sites were relocated and flagged, and two new sites were defined. In most cases the sizes of the sites increased. This document includes lithic analyis by Ruth Rubenstein and ceramic analysis by Mac McDonnell.

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), United States Department of the Interior, was in the initial stages of the Water Management Project designed to bring Central Arizona Project water to the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC). Under terms of a contract signed in 1992 with the GRIC, facilities designed and constructed by Reclamation would deliver 173,000 acre-feet of water annually onto the reservation. Federal law mandates consideration of potential impacts of such projects upon cultural resources and requires that necessary and appropriate steps be taken to mitigate those impacts. In accordance with these laws, Reclamation did a complete inventory of all cultural resources that may fall within the project area. Data resulting from this inventory provided the basis for assessment of the significance of the resources and for the design of plans to mitigate potential impacts to them. Two survey areas in which a water delivery system and associated features (such as dikes) will be constructed were identified by Reclamation. Broad survey areas were defined so the location of eligible sites would be known before specific project design began. In total, 180 sites were identified and recorded during survey. These sites include possible Archaic period materials, a wide range of prehistoric Hohokam site types representing all periods of the Hohokam sequence, possible Protohistoric manifestations, and numerous Historic Pima sites of varying ages. The report consists of two volumes. Volume 1 contains background information; consideration of survey and recording methods; analyses, evaluation, and interpretation of collected data; and recommendations for future treatment of discovered sites. Volume 2 contains site descriptions.

In late August, 1988, Archaeological Research Services, Inc. (ARS) performed a cultural resources survey on lands of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community for the Arizona Department of Transportation. The survey was undertaken for a project involving the construction of turn lanes. The project area encompassed a 4700 ft x 67 ft construction right-of-way adjacent to the northern edge of SR 87. Five prehistoric habitation sites and one prehistoric canal were identified within the right-of-way. The ceramics and architectural features associated with these sites indicate they were occupied by the Hohokam during the Sedentary and Classic Periods. At the request of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, ARS collected all of the surface artifacts from the five habitation sites within the construction right-of-way. A variety of ceramic and lithic artifacts were recovered, as well as some faunal remains and shell artifacts. This study presents an analysis of the surface collections from those five sites, and assesses the content and structure of the archaeological deposits for the portion of each site within the right-of-way. The results of the analysis suggest there were two groups of sites characterized by different artifact assemblages. One group of sites was associated with both Sedentary and Classic Period occupations, while a second group of sites was only associated with the Classic Period occupation of the area. These sites represent a group of agricultural communities that were first occupied during the Sedentary Period, and that grew substantially by Classic Period times. ARS will monitor the proposed turn lane construction for the presence of sub-surface cultural features and remains when the project is undertaken.

During the summer of 1988, archaeologists from Archaeological Consulting Services of Tempe, Arizona, conducted an archaeological survey of 220 acres in the vicinity of Lake Pleasant Regional Park located northwest of Phoenix. This survey was conducted in order to provide inventory and assessment of the cultural resources that might be affected by the proposed exchange of this parcel to the Maricopa County Water Conservation District by the Bureau of Reclamation. This survey resulted in the identification of four prehistoric sites and 272 isolated occurrences. Two of these sites were determined to have the potential to possess significant archaeological research information and, as such, may have been eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. As a result of this initial survey, it was recommended that a testing program be conducted to determine eligibility. At the request of the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), SWCA conducted an archaeological testing program at these sites from September 22-26, 1989. The purpose of this testing program was to determine the presence or absence of significant subsurface deposits as they relate to National Register criteria. This report documents the nature and results of the archaeological testing conducted at these two sites. Neither of the sites (AZ T:4:67 [ASM] and AZ T:4:70 [ASM]) were found to contain significant subsurface deposits and, as such, are not eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. It is suggested that this archaeological testing program reported on herein has exhausted the information potential of these sites. SWCA recommends that archaeological clearance be granted for the Maricopa County Water Conservation District land exchange.

Abstract: The research presented in this thesis examines a lithic assemblage from the multi-component habitation site Gorelyi Les in the Belaia river valley, Cis-Baikal region, Siberia. The distinctive traits of this collection are the relatively small size of the lithic assemblage and the large proportion of debitage. The chosen methodological framework for this research concentrates on obtaining maximum information from the available materials through application of typological, technological, use-wear, and spatial analyses. The results suggest that there were differences in the organization of the technological process of lithic tool manufacture during the Early Neolithic and Late Neolithic. During the Early Neolithic, lithic tool manufacture and use were rather intensive and diversified, while during the Late Neolithic, tool manufacture and use were limited to a narrower range of technological operations and functions.

During the months of April and May, 1976, Salt River Project requested that the Museum of Northern Arizona inspect a number of test pit and bore hole locations along the proposed Coronado Generating Station Coal Haul Railroad. Proposed test locations were examined along three alternative alignments, Realignment 1, Realignment 2, and the Western Alignment. A total of 19 archaeological sites were found during these investigations. Based on the data collected during this time, numerical evaluations of archaeological sensitivity along each of the alternative alignments have been prepared.

At the request of Salt River Project, an evaluation of Realignments 1 and 2 of the proposed D-2 alignment of the Coronado Generating Station Coal Haul Railroad has been prepared. Archaeological investigations of both realignments were conducted on two occasions. On April 13, 1976, an aerial reconnaissance of the realignments was conducted and on May 3-7, 1976, the proposed locations of 24 bore holes and 19 test pits, located along the realignment were surveyed. Based on information collected from these investigations and data obtained during a previous Museum of Northern Arizona study of the original D-2 alignment, a general evaluation of Realignments 1 and 2 has been prepared. Results of the study suggest that, except for the Hardscrabble Wash area, little difference in the impact on archaeological resources may be expected between the Original Alignment and Realignments 1 and 2.

At the request of Dames & Moore, consultants to Salt River Project, the Museum of Northern Arizona, has conducted an archaeological impact study of a proposed railroad in eastern Arizona. The study is designed to characterize the archaeological resources in the project area, providing Dames & Moore with information to evaluate potential impact of the project on the resources. The alignment, designated "D-2", is one of two proposed routes for a coal haul railroad from Coronado Station near St. Johns, Arizona, north to the existing Santa Fe railroad along I-40. The project consists of field and laboratory phases. A five day field reconnaissance of the proposed alignment was conducted from August 19 through August 23, 1975. During this time, sample segments along the proposed alignment were intensively surveyed. The laboratory phase of the project incorporates data collected during the field phase with inforamtion obtained during a similar study conducted by the Museum in June and July, 1975 of the eastern (A-2) alignment of the proposed railroad.

The Museum of Northern Arizona conducted an intensive survey of the proposed Coronado-Concho Wellfield Distribution transmission line in two phases: 1) a preliminary survey of the entire line (0.75 mi.), and 2) a specific inspection of over 18 pole locations. Three sites have been recorded within the project area. The direct impact of the proposed construction is insignificant; however, the indirect impact of vehicular traffic is considerable. Provisional clearance is recommended.

On December 12, 1983, Lyle M. Stone and Douglas R. Mitchell of Archaeological Research Services, Inc. performed an archaeological survey along the route of a proposed power line construction project on Tonto Creek near the intersection of El Oso Road and Highway 188, Gila County, Arizona. This project, proposed by Salt River Project, will entail: (1) the construction of 755 ft of new underground electric line; (2) the construction of 1200 ft of new overhead line; and (3) the modification of power poles (rebuilt with "H" beam supports) along a 2560 ft long line segment. The underground line will extend from a pull box at the north side of the intersection of El Oso Road and Highway 188 across Highway 188 and A Cross Road to a pole riser. The new overhead line will extend from the pole riser to the northeast and will join the west end of an existing overhead line which crosses Tonto Creek. The construction corridor for the project is 20 ft wide. This survey was performed on behalf of Salt River Project in order to determine if cultural resources (prehistoric or historic archaeological sites, historically or architecturally significant structures or buildings) were located within or adjacent to the construction corridor which would be affected by proposed construction actions. This archaeological survey on U.S. Forest Service lands was performed under the conditions of a special use permit authorizing non-disturbing consulting archaeology on Region 3 forests which was issued to Archaeological Research Services, Inc. by the U.S. Forest Service in October, 1981. This file includes extensive correspondence, Decision Notice, and Finding of No Significant Impact related this project.
