The charge density wave (CDW) state is a widespread phenomenon in low-dimensional metals/semimetals. The spectral weight of the associated folded bands (shadow bands) can be an intriguing trigger leading to additional Fermi surface instability and unexplored phase transitions. The rare earth tri-telluride CeTe3 exhibits a single CDW stabilized below ~400 K and antiferromagnetism below ~3 K. The distinct periodicities between the Te-square net, the CeTe block layer, and the CDW give rise to rich shadow band formations. In this work, we reveal the predominant scattering between the original and shadow bands at 4 K, with the scattering within the original bands being relatively suppressed at Fermi energy. This unconventional quasi-particle scattering collectively underscores the vital role of the shadow bands' spectral weight and the hidden matrix element effect, which are crucial for controlling electronic properties in this system. Furthermore, our finding points to the existence of rich and unexplored Fermi surface instabilities, which potentially play a role in controlling the nature of long-range antiferromagnetism at lower temperatures in the presence of finite charge-spin interaction.

An autoencoder (AE) and a generative adversarial networks (GANs) are trained only once on a one-dimensional (1D) lattice of 200 sites. Moreover, the AE contains only one hidden layer consisting of two neurons and both the generator and the discriminator of the GANs are made up of two neurons as well. The training set employed to train both the considered unsupervised neural networks (NN) is composed of two artificial configurations. Remarkably, despite their simple architectures, both the built AE and GANs have precisely determined the critical points of several models, including the three-dimensional (3D) classical $O(3)$ model, the two-dimensional (2D) generalized classical XY model, the 2D two-state Potts model, and the 1D Bose-Hubbard model. The results presented here as well as that shown in {\it Eur. Phys. J. Plus {\bf 136}, 1116 (2021)} suggest that when phase transitions are considered, an elegant universal neural network that is extremely efficient and is applicable to broad physical systems can be constructed with ease. The discovery of 3:2 quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in the ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 1313 X-1 suggests it harbors an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH). We test this numerically by modelling the 3:2 QPOs and the associated X-ray spectrum based on the epicyclic resonance model and a disk-corona model with large-scale magnetic fields generated by the Cosmic Battery mechanism. The combined QPO-frequency and spectral fitting indicates that the BH mass ranges from 2524M_sun to 6811M_sun confirming its IMBH nature, and the BH spin is probably higher than ~0.3., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures

A topological Dirac semimetal is a novel state of quantum matter which has recently attracted much attention as an apparent 3D version of graphene. In this paper, we report critically important results on the electronic structure of the 3D Dirac semimetal Na3Bi at a surface that reveals its nontrivial groundstate. Our studies, for the first time, reveal that the two 3D Dirac cones go through a topological change in the constant energy contour as a function of the binding energy, featuring a Lifshitz point, which is missing in a strict 3D analog of graphene (in other words Na3Bi is not a true 3D analog of graphene). Our results identify the first example of a band saddle point singularity in 3D Dirac materials. This is in contrast to its 2D analogs such as graphene and the helical Dirac surface states of a topological insulator. Symmetry or topology protected Dirac fermion states in two and three dimensions constitute novel quantum systems that exhibit exotic physical phenomena. However, none of the studied spin-orbit materials are suitable for realizing bulk multiplet Dirac states for the exploration of interacting Dirac physics. Here we present experimental evidence, for the first time, that the compound Na3Bi hosts a bulk spin-orbit Dirac multiplet and their interaction or overlap leads to a Lifshitz transition in momentum space - a condition for realizing interactions involving Dirac states. By carefully preparing the samples at a non-natural-cleavage (100) crystalline surface, we uncover many novel electronic and spin properties in Na3Bi by utilizing high resolution angle- and spin-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. We observe two bulk 3D Dirac nodes that locate on the opposite sides of the bulk zone center point $\Gamma$, which exhibit a Fermi surface Lifshitz transition and a saddle point singularity. Furthermore, our data shows evidence for the possible existence of theoretically predicted weak 2D nontrivial spin-orbit surface state with helical spin polarization that are nestled between the two bulk Dirac cones, consistent with the theoretically calculated (100) surface-arc-modes. Our main experimental observation of a rich multiplet of Dirac structure and the Lifshitz transition opens the door for inducing electronic instabilities and correlated physical phenomena in Na3Bi, and paves the way for the engineering of novel topological states using Na3Bi predicted in recent theory., Comment: 23 pages, 5 Figures

We reveal previously unnoticed Type II perfect absorption and amplification modes of optical scattering system. These modes, in contrast to the counterparts in recent works [Phys. Rev. A 82, 031801 (2010); Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 093902 (2011).] which could be referred as Type I modes, appear at a continuous region along the real frequency axis with any frequency. The Type II modes can be demonstrated in the PT-symmetric/traditional Bragg grating combined structures. A series of exotic nonreciprocal absorption and amplification behaviours are observed in the combined structures, making them have potential for versatile devices acting simultaneously as a perfect absorber, an amplifier, and an ultra-narrowband filter. Based on the properties of Type II modes, we also propose structures with controllable perfect absorption and amplification bandwidth at any single or multiple wavelengths.

We study the individual contribution to secondary lepton production in hadronic interactions of cosmic rays (CRs) including resonances and heavier secondaries. For this purpose we use the same ethodology discussed earlier \cite{Huang07}, namely the Monte Carlo particle collision code DPMJET3.04 to determine the multiplicity spectra of various secondary particles with leptons as the final decay states, that result from inelastic collisions of cosmic-ray protons and Helium nuclei with the interstellar medium of standard composition. By combining the simulation results with parametric models for secondary particle (with resonances included) for incident cosmic-ray energies below a few GeV, where DPMJET appears unreliable, we thus derive production matrices for all stable secondary particles in cosmic-ray interactions with energies up to about 10 PeV. We apply the production matrices to calculate the radio synchrotron radiation of secondary electrons in a young shell-type SNR, RX J1713.7-3946, which is a measure of the age, the spectral index of hadronic cosmic rays, and most importantly the magnetic field strength. We find that the multi-mG fields recently invoked to explain the X-ray flux variations are unlikely to extend over a large fraction of the radio-emitting region, otherwise the spectrum of hadronic cosmic rays in the energy window 0.1-100 GeV must be unusually hard. We also use the production matrices to calculate the muon event rate in an IceCube-like detector that are induced by muon neutrinos from high-energy $\gamma$-ray sources such as RX J1713.7-3946, Vela Jr. and MGRO J2019+37. This work presents preliminary results for the time-dependent cosmic-ray propagation in the Galaxy by a fully 3-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation. The distribution of cosmic-rays (both protons and helium nuclei) in the Galaxy is studied on various spatial scales for both constant and variable cosmic-ray sources. An extreme Kerr black hole (BH) surrounded by a precessing disk is invoked to explain the light curves of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) based on the coexistence of the Blandford-Znajek (BZ) and the magnetic coupling (MC) processes. The overall shape of the light curves and the duration of GRBs are interpreted by the evolution of the half-opening angle of the magnetic flux on the BH horizon, and the complex temporal structures are modulated by the precession and nutation of the jet powered by the BZ process. The time profile of the emission exhibits a fast rise and a slow decay due to the effect of the evolution of the half-opening angle. We apply the $\gamma$-ray production matrix to the GeV excess in diffuse galactic $\gamma$-rays that was seen with EGRET. Although the non-$\pi^0$ contributions to the total emission have a different spectrum than the $\pi^0$-decay component, they are insufficient to explain the GeV excess. We also test the hypothesis that the TeV-band $\gamma$-ray emission of the shell-type SNR RX J1713-3946, that was observed with HESS, is caused by shock-accelerated hadronic cosmic rays. This scenario implies a very high efficacy of particle acceleration, so the particle spectrum is expected to continuously harden toward high energies on account of cosmic-ray modification of the shock. Using the $\chi^2$ statistic we find that a continuously softening spectrum is strongly preferred, in contrast to expectations. The atmospheric secondary proton flux is studied for altitudes extending from sea level up to the top of atmosphere by means of a 3-dimensional Monte-Carlo simulation procedure successfully used previously to account for flux measurements of protons, light nuclei, and electrons-positrons below the geomagnetic cutoff (satellite data), and of muons and antiprotons (balloon data). The calculated flux are compared with the experimental measurements from sea level uo to high float ballon altitudes. The agreement between data and simulation results are very good at all altitudes, including the lowest ones, where the calculations become extremely sensitive to the proton production cross section. The results are discussed in this context. The calculations are extended to the study of quasi trapped particles above the atmosphere to about 5 Earth radii, for prospective purpose., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. D

The atmospheric secondary antiproton flux is studied for detection altitudes extending from sea level up to about 3 earth radii, by means of a 3-dimensional Monte-Carlo simulation, successfully applied previously on other satellite and balloon data. The calculated antiproton flux at mountain altitude is found in fair agreement with the recent BESS measurements. The flux at balloon altitude is also in agreement with calculations performed in previous studies and used for the analysis of balloon data. The flux at sea level is found to be significant. The antineutron flux is also evaluated. The antiproton flux is prospectively explored at large distance from earth up to around 2 10$^4$ km. A new parameterization of the antiproton inclusive production cross section in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions is proposed. A sample of consistent pA->pbar X$ experimental data sets measured on 1pbar X reaction with a simplified functional form used in the fits. The agreement obtained with the data is good.
