Background Multi - modal neuroimaging examinations play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of functional neurosurgery. However, there is currently a lack of effective management for these complex data in clinical practice. This study attempts to establish a feasible multimodal neuroimaging data information management system and evaluate its application effects. Methods By standardizing clinical diagnosis and treatment processes, analyzing the nodes where imaging data were generated, and streamlining data flow routes, establishing storage naming conventions, setting up storage servers, and training specialized personnel, we designed and applied a multi - modal neuroimaging data information management system. The primary evaluation indicators were the archiving rates of 5 types of data: structural sequences, other preoperative images, postoperative electrode CT, electrode reconstruction, and postoperative CT/MRI. The secondary evaluation indicators included the total man-hours consumed for data archiving and the average man-hours consumed per case. Results Without multi-modal neuroimaging data information management (control group, n = 64), the total manpower consumption was 192 man-hours, with an average of 3 man-hours per case. With multi-modal neuroimaging data information management (data management group, n = 50), the total manpower consumption was 84 man-hours, with an average of 1.68 man-hours per case. The data management group had higher archiving rates compared to the control group: structural sequences [100% (50/50) vs. 32.81% (21/64); χ2 = 11.383, P = 0.001], other preoperative images [96% (48/50) vs. 26.56% (17/64); χ2 = 13.839, P = 0.000], postoperative electrode CT [96% (48/50) vs. 32.81% (21/64); χ2 = 10.409, P = 0.001], electrode reconstruction [96% (48/50) vs. 32.81% (21/64); χ2 = 10.409, P = 0.001], postoperative CT/MRI [96% (48/50) vs. 15.63% (10/64); χ2 = 22.169, P = 0.000]. Conclusions Designing a multi-modal neuroimaging data information management system that aligns with clinical practice and reasonably setting data collection and archiving nodes can effectively improve data archiving rates, save manpower resources, ensure the complete storage of clinical data, and ensure the smooth operation of clinical tasks, and enhance clinical diagnosis and treatment levels.

Objective To analyze the surgical strategy, efficacy and long⁃term safety of chronic neuropathic pain (NP) after simple cauda equina injury. Methods The clinical data of patients with chronic NP after cauda equina injury treated by dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) derogation and spinal cord stimulation (SCS) in Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University from September 2011 to December 2020 were analyzed. The DREZ derogation or SCS was selected according to the lesion location, injury degree and pain distribution. The long⁃term effect was evaluated according to the preoperative and postoperative Visual Analog Scales (VAS) scores, pain relief rate ≥ 50% was considered as effective, and the complications related to the surgery were followed up. Results Among 24 cases, 14 cases were treated with SCS, 9 cases had pain relief rate 60%-80%, and permanent pulse generator (IPG) was implanted; the pain relief rate was more than 60% in 2 cases, but it did not meet expectation so that the IPG was not implanted; no pain relief in 3 cases, DREZ derogation was performed later, the pain was relieved in 2 cases, and one case was still ineffective. DREZ derogation was firstly performed in 10 cases, and the pain disappeared in 7 cases; 2 cases had residual pain in some areas; one case was ineffective, and the pain was still unrelieved after SCS. After long⁃term implantation of IPG, 2 cases had been taken out of the stimulator due to fluid accumulation at the implantation site. After DREZ derogation, 3 cases had pain at the upper boundary of the preoperative pain area, which gradually disappeared within 2 weeks to one month. In one patient, the pain disappeared in early stage, which recurred after 2 years, and disappeared after the second DREZ derogation. There was no significant difference in the effective rate between 2 groups (9/13 vs. 11/15, Fisher's exact probability: P=1.000). However, DREZ derogation had high pain improvement rate than SCS [100% (0, 100%) vs. 25% (0, 75%); Z=0.441, P=0.030]. Conclusions For chronic neuropathic pain after simple cauda equina injury with clear etiology, both SCS and DREZ derogation may receive satisfactory long⁃term effect. SCS is the first choice for patients with lower limb movement, urinary and bowel function in pain area. DREZ derogation is the first choize for patients without lower limb movement, urinary and bowel. The pain improvement rate of DREZ derogation was better than that of SCS.

The Jahn–Teller effect (JTE) arising from lattice–electron coupling is a fascinating phenomenon that profoundly affects important physical properties in a number of transition-metal compounds. Controlling JT distortions and their corresponding electronic structures is highly desirable to tailor the functionalities of materials. Here, we propose a local coordinate strategy to regulate the JTE through quantifying occupancy in the |${{d}_{{{z}^2}}}$| and |${{d}_{{{x}^2} - {{y}^2}}}$| orbitals of Mn and scrutinizing the symmetries of the ligand oxygen atoms in MnO6 octahedra in LiMn2O4 and Li0.5Mn2O4. The effectiveness of such a strategy has been demonstrated by constructing P2-type NaLi x Mn1–x O2 oxides with different Li/Mn ordering schemes. In addition, this strategy is also tenable for most 3d transition-metal compounds in spinel and perovskite frameworks, indicating the universality of local coordinate strategy and the tunability of the lattice–orbital coupling in transition-metal oxides. Anionic redox reaction (ARR) in lithium- and sodium-ion batteries is under hot discussion, mainly regarding how oxygen anion participates and to what extent oxygen can be reversibly oxidized and reduced. Here, a P3-type Na0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 with reversible capacity from pure ARR was studied. The interlayer O-O distance (peroxo-like O-O dimer, 2.506(3) Å), associated with oxidization of oxygen anions, was directly detected by using a neutron total scattering technique. Different from Li2RuO3 or Li2IrO3 with strong metal-oxygen (M-O) bonding, for P3-type Na0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 with relatively weak Mn-O covalent bonding, crystal structure factors might play an even more important role in stabilizing the oxidized species, as both Li and Mn ions are immobile in the structure and thus may inhibit the irreversible transformation of the oxidized species to O2 gas. Utilization of anionic redox reaction (ARR) on oxygen has been considered as an effective way to promote the charge-discharge capacity of the layered oxide cathodes for lithium- or sodium-ion batteries. The detailed mechanism of ARR, in particular how crystal structure affects and coordinates with the ARR, is not yet well understood. In the present work, a combination of X-ray and neutron total scattering measurements has been performed to study the structure of the prototype P3-type layered Na0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 with pure ARR. Unique structural characteristics, rather than prevailing knowledge of covalency of metal-oxygen, enable the stabilization of the crystal structure of Na0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 along with the ARR. This work suggests that reversible ARR can be manipulated by proper structure designs, thus to achieve high lithium or sodium storage in layered oxide cathodes. For P3-type Na0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 with relatively weak Mn-O covalent bonding, crystal structure factors play an important role in stabilizing the oxidized species, inhibiting the irreversible transformation of the oxidized species to O2 gas. The finding is important for better design of layered oxide positive materials with higher reversible capacity via the introduction of a reversible anionic redox reaction.
